I'm still playing NCAA 14 and documenting my own dynasty here and sometimes I take pics and think "wow, that's a good looking shot" after seeing the lighting, blurs and other details. I can't imagine what's going to happen when I start doing that with Madden 18 lol. Going back to NCAA will be very difficult.

I usually sim the playoffs but in this case I was so far behind on my posts that I played all of the games to slow myself down and not get to the 2019 season too quickly. I ended up enjoying playing the games so much that I may keep doing it- although the 2020 draft will include Keith Jackson and the spin-off franchise will start sooner if I sim next year's playoffs.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Pats Conduct In-House Rooney Rule Interview, No One "Serious" Scheduled Yet

The New England Patriots have "interviewed" their linebackers coach, Brian Flores, for their head coaching vacancy, paying lip service (more like giving the finger) to the "NFL's Rooney Rule", but have yet to schedule a meeting with a viable candidate. They have also not sought permission to speak with former coordinators Josh McDaniels or Matt Patricia. That strongly hints that the preferred candidate is on the staff of one of the "final four" teams left in the playoffs.

Dolphins Interview Schwartz, Will Still Talk To Smith

Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier confirmed that and interview with Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz was conducted on Thursday, but no decision will be made until team officials have also met with Bucs DC Mike Smith. That may have to wait until after the Super Bowl if Tampa Bay wins the NFC championship on Sunday. Both Schwartz (Lions) and Smith (Falcons) have prior NFL head coaching experience. Miami has not hired such a candidate since Dave Wannstedt in 2000, and has gone through five post-Wannstedt coaches in 14 seasons- an average tenure of less than 3 years.

Repeat of The Titans:

Bradford Fumbles Away Texans’ Super Bowl Ticket

Making his first start for the Houston Texans since the September injury that led to Mason Rudolph starting for the duration of the regular season and becoming the leading candidate for the AFC’s Offensive Rookie of the Year, Sam Bradford had the Houston Texans leading the defending AFC champion Tennessee Titans deep into the third quarter. After falling behind 7-3 on a DeMarco Murray touchdown run, the Texans scored 11 points in back-to-back possessions. Nick Novak closed out the first half with a 30 yard field goal, and Lamar Miller, otherwise stifled all day, capped the first drive of the second half with a 1 yard run. Bradford scored a two point conversion on a naked bootleg that completely fooled the Tennessee defense, and Houston was up a touchdown at 14-7. At the 4:22 mark of the third quarter, Ryan Succop booted a 42 yard field goal to cut the Titans’ offense. The only other offensive score for the remainder of the game was a 27-yarder by Succop with 12:53 to go. Theoretically this game could have ended up a 14-13 Houston victory for the first AFC title in franchise history. But in between those Succop kicks, the Texans were done in. In the final seconds of the third quarter, awesomely-named Titans backup safety Money Hunter delivered a sack that forced a Bradford fumble. Hunter then scooped up the loose ball and raced 40 yards to the end zone for a 17-14 Tennessee lead. Injury was added to insult when Bradford was unable to continue due to a strained back. With the Texans trailing 20-14 late in the game, in a drive that began at the Houston 1, they were in a 4th and 10 do-or-die situation at the Tennessee 20. Third-stringer Tom Savage was picked off in the end zone by rookie corner Brandon Facyson, and the Titans closed the books on their second consecutive (and third overall) AFC championship.

On a side note, the end of Houston's season concludes the five years of Bill O'Brien's contract and he is now officially a “free agent". If he means to remain a head coach in the NFL and it's not in Houston, the options are down to Miami and New England. No rocket science involved there.

At the moment 2019 appears to be a huge question mark for Sam Bradford.

Playing in place of the injured Malik Hooker, Rayshawn Jenkins heads off Kendall Wright at the pass to make an interception.

After is STFU game last week, DeMarco Murray “only” rushed for 97 yards and a TD.

Rookie Brandon Facyson makes a game-saving pick.

Rematch Set

Super Bowl LIII is going to be a rematch of SB LII, and the biggest difference this time is that Russell Wilson will be playing in it. If the Seattle Seahawks lose to the Tennessee Titans again, Seattle fans can stop their “what-iffing” about LII and acknowledge Tennessee’s superiority.

When Doug Martin followed a perfect Jon Ryan punt that died at 1 with a 99 touchdown run that left Seahawks strewn in his wake and which put the Tampa Bay Buccaneers up 10-0, it appeared that this postseason’s Cinderella was on the way to the Big Dance. But the Seahawks scored the game’s next 13 points, and its final 10 after Tampa knotted the score at 13. In the end, the only two playoff teams still with intact starting QB’s are the ones that made it to the Super Bowl. The Buccaneers are now 1-3 in NFC title games, while the Hawks have reached 5-1 in them overall and 4-0 in the Pete Carroll era.

Doug Martin’s 99 yard run was Tampa Bay’s only touchdown of the game.

Fullback Marcel Reece’s 10 yard TD reception got Seattle on the board with only 15 seconds remaining in the first half.

Richard Sherman, who helped the Seahawks get into the playoffs with 2 Week 17 picks of Alex Smith, gives a finger wag after denying Corey Davis a catch.

Sherman picks off a Ryan Fitzpatrick pass intended for Tavon Austin.

I played as the Seahawks. They became my team when the Rams went to St. Louis and they're still my no. 2 now that the Rams are back in LA. Makes it kind of awkward for me twice a year.
