The Bears kickoff their season with a primetime home matchup against the reigning NFC North champion Detroit Lions. The opening game of the Monday Night Football doubleheader should be a good one, as both teams come in with no injuries. Both teams failed to win in their first playoff games last season, and hope to improve this year, making a longer playoff run.
Players to Watch: WR Jamison Crowder - Lions
Crowder joins the Lions after four seasons in Washington and begins the season as the Lions slot WR. The Lions now have a solid receivers group with Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones, and Crowder, and hope that this help their offensive air attack become more powerful. Crowder will help stretch the field with his speed on inside slants and fly routes, possible opening up more space in the defense for other targets.
CB Darius Slay Jr. - Lions
Slay has become one of the league's top shutdown corners, and will look to give the Bears WRs nightmares on Monday night. He will likely line up across from Allen Robinson II for most of the night, although watch for him to also cover Taylor Gabriel or Anthony Miller if they line up as outside receivers. If Slay can shut down one of Mitchell Trubisky's favorite targets and help slow the passing game, the Bears could be forced to rely more heavily on the run game.
WR Allen Robinson II - Bears
After missing the final few games last season (including the playoff loss to the Rams), Robinson is eager to get back on the field and fire up the Bears offense. After finishing just ONE yard short of 1,000 receiving yards last year, he will look to keep improving coming off of his ACL tear in 2017.
OLB Khalil Mack - Bears
This one is pretty obvious. After a record 23.0 sacks in 2018, Mack should be terrorizing offensive tackles once again in 2019. With his flexibility to line up on either side as an edge rusher, this will force the Lions to pay attention to where Mack lines up and adjust their offensive formations accordingly. The Lions will likely line up a tight end over Mack to help chip block and give Matt Stafford an extra second or two to find one of his receivers.
Winning in the Windy City | A Chicago Bears Dynasty (M19)
Bears start season 1-0, but at a price 2019WK1.jpg
The Chicago Bears defeated the Lions fairly easily at home, starting off 1-0 for the second straight season. After a Matt Prater field goal on the Lions' opening drive, the Bears went on to score 21 unanswered points, including a 79-yard pick six by Bryce Callahan, which was the first of two Matthew Stafford interceptions on the night. A short TD pass from Mitchell Trubisky to Allen Robinson with under a minute left in the first half helped the Bears head into half with a 21-3 lead.
The defenses came out strong in the second half, with no scoring at all until the Lions were able to score their first touchdown early in the fourth quarter. A long drive ending in a Tarik Cohen rushing TD for the Bears helped the Bears put the game away, ending in a score of 28-10.
The bigger story of the game is the injury that QB Mitchell Trubisky suffered in the third quarter, on a play where he was sacked by Da'Shawn Hand. The injury was later diagnosed as a broken collarbone, which will keep Trubisky sidelined for at least 2 months. This leaves the Bears quarterback position in question, as Matt Nagy will now have to decide whether to start veteran Chase Daniel or rookie Tyree Jackson. Daniel is likely to get the start as he has more experience in the offense, but this will impact the offense as Trubisky has been successful in Nagy's offense so far.

The Bears come into their second home matchup of four straight to begin the season against the defending Super Bowl champion Dallas Cowboys. Chase Daniel will start in his first NFL game since 2014 with the Chiefs. The Cowboys are coming off of a narrow win at home over the division rival Eagles on the opening night of the NFL season. The Bears will face a tough test going against the defending champs with their backup QB, but have a good chance to win if they can get their running game going early.
Re: Winning in the Windy City | A Chicago Bears Dynasty (M19)
Turnovers bury Bears as they fall to defending champs 2019WK2.jpg
The Bears were defeated by the defending champion Dallas Cowboys 31-10 on Sunday night, but the score doesn't tell just how bad this game was. In his first start in 5 years, QB Chase Daniel turned the ball over SEVEN times, throwing 5 picks and losing 2 fumbles as well. This gave Daniel an abysmal 43.3 quarterback rating for the night, an embarrassing performance in a primetime game. "I take all the blame for this loss," Daniel said in a postgame interview. "You can't turn the ball over that much and win games. I'm gonna put this game behind me and just focus on Green Bay." When asked if rookie QB Tyree Jackson has a chance at starting next week, HC Matt Nagy said that there isn't going to be a change quite yet. "It was his first start in a few years, add to that the primetime effect and it got to him. Chase (Daniel) will start next week and he's gotta step up and play better."
The Cowboys got out of the gate quickly, taking a 10-0 first quarter lead after an Ezekiel Elliott TD and the first of 3 field goals on the night for Brett Maher. Early in the second quarter, Cowboys' LB Jaylon Smith grabbed the first of his 2 interceptions, taking it back 75 yards for a score to extend the lead to 17. The Bears' first points came in the form of a 32 yard field goal by Cole Tracy. The Cowboys then went up 20-3 going into halftime with a 64 yard boot by Brett Maher, which ties an NFL record for the longest field goal in NFL history.
The Bears came out of halftime with a long drive capped off by a Ryan Nall 1 yard score, bringing them within 10, but the turnovers never gave the Bears a chance as they would not score again for the rest of the game. The Cowboys added on another Maher FG and Zeke rushing TD, and would end up winning with a comfortable 31-10 final score. In all reality, the score could have been much worse had the Cowboys been able to capitalize on all 7 takeaways.
The Cowboys start off the season 2-0, and will head back home next week for a conference matchup against Atlanta. The Bears will be at Soldier Field again next week against the struggling Packers, who have started 0-2.

Injury Report
OLB Nick Perry (arm) Out
QB Mitchell Trubisky (collarbone) Out
The Bears will look to bounce back against the 0-2 Packers in one of the top rivalries in football. Chase Daniel will start once again for the Bears, and can do nothing but improve from last week (hopefully). He faces a weak Packer secondary, and the Packers will be without edge rusher Nick Perry, forcing Anthony Chickillo to start in his place. If Daniel has another bad game, the Bears may start to spiral until the return of Mitchell Trubisky.
Re: Winning in the Windy City | A Chicago Bears Dynasty (M19)
Tracy nails 51 yarder as time expires to deny Rodgers' comeback attempt, Bears avoid upset 2019WK3.jpg
The Bears narrowly defeated their bitter rivals 20-17 on a 51 yard field goal as time expired from rookie kicker Cole Tracy, his first career game-winning field goal.
The game started well for the Bears, as the defense shut down Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay offense in the first half. After a Tracy field goal in the first quarter and a Jordan Howard 18 yard TD run in the second, the Packers first points of the game were scored on a 96 yard pick six by safety Josh Jones, the first of two Chase Daniel interceptions. The 10-7 score would hold until halftime.
After a Bears drive ended in a Jaire Alexander interception to begin the 3rd quarter, the Packers were able to hit a field goal to tie the game at 10. The Bears answered with a long scoring drive in the beginning of the fourth, capped off by a 2 yard TD pass from Daniel to Taylor Gabriel to give the Bears a 17-10 lead with 6:18 left in the game. The Packers then went three and out on the next possession and punted, and the Bears and Packers then each exchanged punts once again, leaving the Bears with the ball with under 3 minutes to play.
The game looked like it was over at this point, with the Bears running the ball in 4-8 yard chunks, running out the clock. The Packers had used the last of their timeouts, but then they got lucky: Corey Clement took a big hit from Josh Jones, which caused him to cough up the football and the Packers defense recovered.
Although Aaron Rodgers had struggled the entire game up to this point, he was given the ball in the situation you never want to see him in (unless you're a Packers fan). Under 2 minutes, no timeouts, down 7. Rodgers led a brilliant drive, going 6/6 passing and hitting Randall Cobb with an 8 yard strike to tie the game at 17 with just 26 seconds remaining in regulation.
After the kickoff, the Bears would begin the drive at their own 29 yard line with 21 seconds and one timeout. Many figured they would just sit on the ball and not risk a turnover, and just safely head to overtime. This was not the case, as the first play of the drive Daniel found an open Tarik Cohen on a checkdown, who would use his excellent quickness and agility to duck his way up to the Bears 45 and was tackled in bounds, forcing the Bears to use their final timeout with 14 seconds left.
After an incompletion on the sideline, Cohen caught a pass in the flat and was able to get up the left sideline all the way up to the Packers' 34 with 3 seconds to go. Packers had no timeouts to ice Tracy, and he nailed the 51 yarder right down the middle to give the Bears the victory. This gives fans hope at the kicker position, as Tracy was able to succeed in his first pressure kick of his pro career.
The Packers fall to 0-3 and will try to put the pieces together as they head back home to take on the Lions. Meanwhile, the Bears will take on the Raiders to end a 4 game home stretch.

Oakland Raiders (2-1, 1-0 Away)
Chicago Bears (2-1, 2-1 Home)
Injury Report
WR Rishard Matthews (foot) Questionable
QB Mitchell Trubisky (collarbone) Out
OT Jared Veldheer (knee) Out
The Oakland Raiders come into Chicago at a suprising 2-1 mark given the lack of big names on their roster. This is the last of a four game home stretch to begin the season for the Bears, which may come back to hurt them later with many away games in the final stretch of the year. We haven't gotten a look at Kyler Murray yet, who is currently backing up Derek Carr after he took a severe drop in the draft, landing with Oakland in the third round. The Bears are rolling with Chase Daniel once again, who hopes to improve his play and keep the Bears in the win column while they wait for Mitchell Trubisky to recover.
