Re: A New Era of College Football-NCAA14

I am all caught up on games played. I will probably post a Team Report next with some stats and Recruiting news during the bye week and try and get in the Auburn game played. I honestly need to rethink my play style.

Foster still leads the nation in passing with 2845 yds already breaking Mullins school record of yds in a season, but he now has 20 INT, destroying any chance at getting into the Heisman talks.

As always thanks for following, and if you have any comments or questions please ask.

WEEK 8 (BYE WEEK) TEAM REPORT

Player Spotlight

When it comes to highlights reels and stats, Offensive players always seem to be the stars of any sports report. Well John Foster’s play has been Heisman worthy at times (leads the nation in passing yds, school record for most yds in a season just 7 games in and school record for yds in a game and TD’s in a game), 4* FR Eugene Muhammad has been electrifying on kick returns (40 kicks 1148 yds 28.7 avg, well also adding 500 yds and 9 TD’s to lead the team in rushing), and SR TE Leon Pitts continues to stack on accolades and school records (currently #2 in the nation in receiving yds with 1148 yds on 69 rec with 11 TD’s), we need to point out the play of JR DE Paul Arnold. Rated only a 2* and the #176 Best DE in last year’s class, Arnold was overlooked by most schools, but Vader saw potential (75 SparQ), and Arnold hasn’t failed to deliver.

The Junior Defense End currently leads the nation in sacks with 8.0 after a 4-sack performance vs Miami in Week 5. His 8 sacks is also a new school record. Arnolds presence also has allowed the rest of the D-Line to post solid sack #’s as well as C. Mitchell has 5 (1 more then he had all of last season) and DT T. Manning also has 5.

Recruiting Recap

The Panthers got off to a quick start landing a potential starting FB and 2 CB’s who could push the current Freshman starters next season.

Now midway through the season, Coach Vader and his staff are happy to announce the signing of 7 more players leaving the Panthers with just 8 scholarship offers left.

Joining Georgia State next season will be

PK-Matt Thompson from Fitzgerald GA.

Rated a 3* and the #5 PK in the nation, Thompson has a SparQ score of 80 with 87 Kick Power and 76 Accuracy.
Quote:
Coach Vader “Obviously with S. Watson currently only a Junior, we are excited to land someone of Thompson’s abilities now which will also us to redshirt him next season”
6’2 215lbs Bill Rice out of Fair Lawn New Jersey is a 3* Athlete and rated the #66 ATH in this year’s class. From game film, Rice looks to have the abilities to play both sides of the ball, but early reports leave us to believe he will most likely be in the secondary next season.

Coach Vader
Quote:
“To be honest Rice looks like the type of kid we could plug on either side of the ball and he will instantly make us a better team. We won’t make a decision on his position until we see how the rest of the class fills out as well as what happens with our current roster”
OLB Drew Waller is 6’2 249lbs and from Country Club Estates GA.

Rated a 3* and the #91 OLB, Waller has a SPARQ score of just 69, but boasts ratings of 80 in both Speed and Tackle.

Coach Vader
Quote:
” Waller is a beast. I would like to redshirt him next season if it’s possible because I feel with a year of weight training and some growth, he could be a 4-year starter”
TE Garrett Jamison is 6’4 249 lbs from Dalton GA

A 3 * Rated as the #46 Best TE in the class, Jamison is a WR in a TE body. Despite only a SparQ score of 65 Overall, Jamison boasts a Speed rating of 81 and has great hands (76 Catch).

Coach Vader
Quote:
“We truly believe we have found our replacement for Leon Pitts next season. In our offense I believe Jamison can be a star. Will he leave GSU with every school record? Well we will have to wait and see”
WR Chad Chandler is a 6’1 214lbs Juco Transfer from Kitchner Canada.

Rated only a 3* and the #147 Best WR in the class, Chandler boasts one of the best SparQ scores of last years and this years current class at a 80 Overall

Coach Vader
Quote:
“We have some talented depth but with 2 Senior WR’s in our current Top-5, Chandler will most likely slide in next season as one of our key starters.”
Guard Nic Bishop is another 3* Recruit Rated as the 26th best interior lineman in this years class. Out of Dunwood GA, Bishop was heavily recruited by FIU,UCF,South Alabama and FAU, but chose to stay closer to home and play for the Panthers. At 6’1 279 lbs, he could potentially slide over to Center. He has a SparQ rating of 71 but boasts a Pass Block rating of 81

Coach Vader
Quote:
“Bishop is another kid who is going to give us great depth next season and depending on how comfortable he looks at Center, he could potentially earn himself a starting role.”
Our last Recruit profile is 3* Matt Bostic a 6’5 257 DE from Dearborn Heights Michigan.

Listed as the #101 DE in the class with a SparQ score of 71, Bostic turned down scholarship offers from South Alabama and Marshall to sign at Georgi State.

Coach Vader
Quote:
“We will see how things play out but right now we really like what we saw of Bostic’s film as a run stopper and in our Defensive set (3-3-5), we will most like transition him inside to DT.

With 8 scholarships left and all of the team’s immediate needs meet, Coach Vader and his staff will most likely turn their attentions now to just signing the best available players regardless of position.

Right now Athlete Atua Bell is atop that list. A 4* from Lohani Hawaii, Bell would be the 2nd 4* recruit from the Hawaiian Islands to sign with GSU (Muhammad last year). Bell currently has spent time playing QB/RB/WR and DB for his high school team and looks like the type of player who could make a impact on either side of the ball with a SparQ score of 77.

#2 on the Panthers wish list is 3* SS Mike Jenkins out of Riverdale GA. Rated the #5 SS in this years class, Jenkins currently has the Panthers #2 on his short list behind Tennessee and ahead of Vanderbilt and Purdue. All 4 schools are offering a scholarship.

Coach Vader
Quote:
“Jenkins would be a automatic 4 year starter for us and I have told him so. At 6’4 195lbs with a Sparq score of 75, he would instantly be our best DB on our roster. Bell is another kid who honestly can just play anywhere and he is going to make plays. If I had to guess, my assumption will be possibly a dual role for us at both WR and CB”

WEEK 8 AROUND THE NATION REPORT

Texas continues it's hold on the #1 spot this week after beating #2 Texas A&M (38-35) in the game of the week, to stay a perfect 6-0. If the Longhorns can manage to come away with a road win over #21 Georgia this week, things are looking pretty good until the Big 12 Title game.

With Texas A&M's loss, we have a new team taking over the #2 spot, which just happens to be another Big 12 team from Texas. TCU also is 6-0 and like Texas is coming off their own big victory having just beat #4 Baylor (42-21). For the Horn Frogs a matchup with TAMU next month is their toughest roadblock.

Oregon currently sits at #3 as they to are currently 6-0. The Ducks however still have several tough games including a Week 9 matchup with #5 Washington (6-0) and a road game @ #19 Utah State (7-0).

Miss State moves up from #7 to #4 this week boasting a perfect 7-0 record, but the Bulldogs still have some very tough games left including a road game @ #8 Alabama (6-1) and home vs instate rival Ole Miss who is currently #15 and (5-2)

Washington is #5 and like previous stated will battle #3 Oregon next week for most likely the MWC crown and 1 team will stay in the hunt for a national title.

(6-1) Texas A&M drops to #6 after their loss, the Aggies should be able to rebound and win their next 3 which should put them back in the Top-5 before their matchup with TCU, plus a Week 14 matchup with (7-1) Arkansas could give them a legit shot at a rematch chance with the Longhorns in the National Title game.

Virginia Tech currently sits at (5-1) and #7 in our polls despite a loss 3 weeks ago to #13 Clemson.

(6-1) Alabama is currently #8. The Tide are coming off a (52-42) win ove #15 Ole Miss but boasts one of the toughest schedules remaining this season with road games @ (7-1) Arkansas, (5-3) LSU and #21 (5-3) Georgia. as well as home matchups with #4 Miss State and Auburn in rivalry week.

Louisville jumps up from #14 to #9 with a solid (35-32) win over Missouri. The Cardinals currently sit undefeated at (5-0) but have road games#16 Ole Miss and (5-2) Tennessee still left on the schedule.

UL Lafayette moves up 2 spots to claim #10. Despite a coaching change this past off-season, the Ragin Cajuns are off to a smoking (5-0) start with wins over #16 Ole Miss, Boise State on the Blue, as well as handing (7-1) Arkansas their only loss. ULL schedule is pretty soft the rest of the season and I see no reason why they couldn't possibly finish with a perfect 12-0 record. The question is can they beat the system and play for a National Title.

(5-1) Baylor lands at #11 after their loss to TCU.
(5-1) South Carolina is #12
(5-1) Clemson is #13
(5-1) Michigan State is #14
(5-2) Ole Miss is #15
(3-3) Ohio State is #16
(5-1) Iowa is #17
(5-2) Notre Dame is #18
(7-0) Utah State is #19
(6-1) USC is #20
(5-3) Georgia is #21
(5-2) Stanford is #22
(5-1) Arizona is #23
(5-3) Florida is #24
(6-1) UCLA is #25

PANTHERS SNAP 3 GAME LOSING STREAK!!!

The Georgia State Panthers traveled to Auburn in Week 9 looking for their 4th win of the season and to keep their bowl hopes alive coming off a 3 game losing streak to Top-25 programs. The Good news for GSU was Auburn was unranked sitting at (4-4).

The Tigers season has been a roller coaster. They beat Georgia in Week 1 (35-32) and jumped into the Top-25 at #15, but lost their next 2 games to Kansas State (Top-25 at the time) and Miss State (still Top-25) before rebounding with a (38-28) win over Florida State. Bu the Tiger then fell on the road to LSU.. They then rebounded with a win over #6 Miami (31-24) in OT but then lost to #24 Florida (21-17). Then in Week 8 they won again beating Georgia Tech (37-31).

I think everyone in the nation except the Panthers and maybe John Fosters mom, thought the Tigers would roll over Georgia State, but Foster had different plans..

During the 3 game losing streak Foster turned the ball over 14 times (12 INT and 2 Fumbles) but tonight it was like he was a different man.

GSU opened the game with the ball and quickly found the endzone as Foster hits FR TE AJ Blair on a 6 yd TD pass to put the Panthers on the scoreboard.

Then after a INT by MLB J. Shelby, the Panthers tack on 3 more as S. Watson hits a 32 yd FG to make it (10-0).

Auburn would answer back though with a huge 65 yd TD run by B. Rich to make it (10-7) with 3:09 to play in the 1st, but Foster quickly guides his team down field finishing off the 8 play 70 yd drive with a 7 yd TD pass to D. Montoya to make it (17-7) as we head into the 2nd.

GSU would score 21 unanswered points expanding their lead to (38-7) with less then 2 minutes to play in the half, as the Panthers dominate the ground game. Foster scored the first of the TD's with a 25 yd QB keeper followed by a huge 45 yd TD run by FR E. Muhammad. Then FB D. Griffin got involved with a 5 yd dive up the middle on a 2nd and goal.

Auburn would answer back though as Z. Hill finds K. Williams on a 27 yd TD pass to make it (38-14) with 32 seconds to play.

Most teams would probably be thinking about just running out the clock and taking their 24 point lead into the half, but a 62 yd kickoff return by Muhammad left the Panthers with enough time and field position to think about taking on a few more points. Foster would drop back and make his first mistake of the game. A INT into the hands of the Tigers OLB, who leaps to make a incredible catch.. He must have been at least 20 ft off the ground.

The mistake compounded itself as Tiger QB Z. Hill hits D. Freeman on a 19 yd TD as time expires to make it (38-21).

Auburn would start the 2nd half with the ball but not for long as they fumble it away. After a explosive 1st half, the Panthers Offense however would go cold as GSU is forced to Punt on their next 2 series. Auburn however also struggled as they too were forced to punt as well. Finally with 4:13 to play in the 3rd, Foster hits SR WR J. Rodgers on a 5 yd score to make it (45-21).

Again both teams would struggle to move the ball as both teams punt teams see plenty of action to finish out the 3rd.

After just 7 points scored in the 3rd, we get 5 scores in the 4th.

GSU opens up the 4th with a Muhammad 1 yd run to make it (52-21), and then extends that lead yet again as FR RB R. Jones takes a run to the outside breaking it off 21 yds for the score to make it (59-21). Auburn would answer back though as J. Gray returns the kickoff 99 yds for the score (59-28).

Leading by 31 with less then 3 minutes to play, GSU would go to the ground game where they had been successful all game, but the Tigers "D" manages to finally get a stop, and with 2:15 to play Hill finds Freeman for a 2nd time from 14 yds out to make it (59-34) after the Tiger fail to convert the 2 pt conversion.

Auburn followed up the score with a onside attempt, but FR AJ Blair handles the return. With 2 minutes to play everyone in the stadium expected the Panthers to just run off as much clock as possible even if it meant giving the ball back to the Tigers one more time, but on a 3rd and 5, Foster takes the snap fakes the handoff and finds his FR TE AJ Blair for a 2nd time in the game as Blair scores on the play action from 12 yds out..

It was brutal.. I am not 1-7 against Top-25 teams, but as you will see I finally snapped that stretch of games with a huge win.. Even though they were not ranked this win over Auburn might be bigger then last year's win over N. Illinois.
