Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

This is a 2 part question, part 1 is for my semi-realistic Yanks franchise (semi because these things can never be 100% realistic).

Saw this back in the 100-115 range of this thread, would this still be fair (in June right now)

NYY get SP Lee (3-4 4.14 ERA) + a smaller piece throw in

    PHI get C Sanchez (.288 11 HR 28 RBI) + SP Pineda (4-0 2.71 ERA) + CF Heathcott (.292 2 HR 16 RBI) + SP Manny (3-3 2.33 ERA) + SP Feliz (5-2 3.88 ERA) B pot pitcher 20 years old

Is this fine or am I underpaying, should I wait till July? Phi is 8 games out of the WC and 13 out of the East. I'm up by 3.5 of the division. Pitching has been solid but I'd like another Ace type pitcher for a playoff run later on.

Part 2 is a new one I want to start with an NL team, not realistic at all but 100% fair franchise:

I've decided to start one up with the Cubbies instead of with the Cards since they would still be pretty decent after trading a lot for Trout or Harper. I've also decided to go after one of them with the Cubs and try to build around them.

Would this be fair, again not going for realism but for fairness.

Trout + some minor pieces for Baez or Bryant (or both instead of Starlin, Bryant if Starlin is added) + Starlin + Samardzija + Almora + Edwards + Soler + Alcantara + Johnson + Ramirez or (Villanueva or Candelario but don't know if I should send another 3B. Hendricks or Vizcaino or Vogelbach or ??)

Saw this trade suggestion for the Cards back around 121-125 in this thread:

    STL get Trout
Angels get Wacha, Taveras, Rosenthal/Martinez, Carpenter, Piscotty, Reyes

    or Harper for something similar

Let me know if this is enough, I did a fantasy draft earlier but deleted it right away as roster stacking is more than easy. Also temptation got me Bryce/Trout/Machado/Boagerts/Tanaka/Stanton and more. I know this isn't a realistic trade at all but would want something fair instead of low-balling teams for these types of players.

Lee trade looks good to me. You may want to wait until July to make the trade though, since the Phillies might want to see how close they are after some more time before they deal Lee. Sanchez is a must for this trade, so it's good you have him included. Pineda is also a good addition for this trade, and since he's pitching well, based on the stats you provided, I think they'd want him in there too. Heathcott and Feliz are nice as well, but I'm not sure you'd have to add Manny to make the deal happen. Unless Lee lowers his ERA a little you might not have to give up Heathcott, but that's how I see it. For the smaller piece to throw in, I'd look for someone like John Mayberry Jr. He's a great option off the bench to face lefties and has some success as a platoon player. I'm not really sure about the Trout/Harper deal though. I'll leave that feedback for others to help you out with!

Thanks man, yeah I'm having a hard time trading Pineda as he has been my best pitcher, alongside surprisingly Nova. Ha. Also getting Lee wouldn't make me any younger but eh Kuroda retires at the end of the year so I'd have Lee, CC and Tanaka for another year after this one. Someone like Lee would more than likely put my team over the top though: Lee, Tanaka, CC in the playoffs might be scary good.

Yeah trading for those guys is tough to gauge value as they would command the world. I benchmarked my offer proposal from that Cards one I saw back 200 pages or so. A 3rd option which might be more realistic would be Giancarlo, but I'd prefer Trout. Harper/Stanton is a coin toss in my books, at least in the game can't hit with Stanton unless it's a HR and can't hit HR with Harper.

Edit instead of Mayberry you think they'd trade Adams? He's 2-2 5.11, he has been their worst reliever thus far. Other pen people I would like since Thornton got injured and Kelly is having a dreadful spell with me are: Brad Lincoln 1-3 1.88, Jake Diekman 0-2 2.33. Would also like these guys but may have to add more Bastardo 0-1 3.11 and Papelbon 0-3 3.72 9 SV 5 BS

Lee would definitely make you a serious contender this year. Although like I said I'd wait until July to see how far back the Phillies are by then. If they are still around double digits GB then they would most likely make that move.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

Finally settled on a long term franchise after playing around with 9-10 different teams and their trade options. Ive settled on the Chicago Cubs and imposed some house rules on myself, mainly limiting my amount of trades in season and during the winter. I have a long term plan in my mind, and hopefully I dont get crucified for these few potential moves by the cubs fans Ive noticed on here. I have a list of targets that I want to add to my team, and ill list a few guys im willing to add into the packages to get them...I just want a little help with rounding them out to make them fair. The only players that are untouchable on my team are Byrant, Rizzo, and one of Baez/Castro (Id preferably like to keep Castro).

            Here are my targets:

Dylan Bundy. Id be willing to package Samardzija and Baez there, just unsure if that would get him or if I would need to add someone on their end to round it out.

Danny Espinosa. Was thinking a package around Olt (Who could fill a need at 3b or 1b in 2015 depending on where Laroche/Rendon go) or Bonifacio (Could platoon at 2b and in the OF)

Dominic Leone. Picked him up in a rule 5 draft in a previous franchise and love pitching with him, he'll most like be a bullpen arm/setup guy in 2014 and move to closer in 2015 for me. Was thinking something involving Hammel might be able to be worked out.

            Any help is appreciated.

Disclaimer...this is absolutely not addressed at you or any one specific person. Just to address the general point you brought up above...

People are getting crucified because they are proposing bunk trades. A bunch of the trades proposed in here on a daily basis are just exploits, plain and simple, which is very odd considering the entire essence of this thread is to level the playing field and make it so people won't abuse the game. Frankly, a lot of the deals that pop up here are the type of deals that this thread has been designed to avoid/weed out. It's almost like people really, really want to abuse the trade AI, but feel too guilty and need someone in here to enable them to abuse the trade logic. If folks don't particularly care about realism and just want to assemble the best players in the game, a fantasy draft works great. There's also force trades.

              Here are my targets:

Dylan Bundy. Id be willing to package Samardzija and Baez there, just unsure if that would get him or if I would need to add someone on their end to round it out.

Bundy is not available realistically. Baez is an overpay anyway.

Danny Espinosa. Was thinking a package around Olt (Who could fill a need at 3b or 1b in 2015 depending on where Laroche/Rendon go) or Bonifacio (Could platoon at 2b and in the OF)

Olt has the value of a freshly laundered sock. He's hitting a buck fifty in real life after getting crushed in AAA for almost 2 solid years. He can't see. There's no value there, especially not for a starting caliber 2B in return. He would need to go on an absolutely 3 month long tear for you to get anything valuable for him.

The Cubs just signed Bonifacio. No chance of dealing him right after signing him.

Dominic Leone. Picked him up in a rule 5 draft in a previous franchise and love pitching with him, he'll most like be a bullpen arm/setup guy in 2014 and move to closer in 2015 for me. Was thinking something involving Hammel might be able to be worked out.

You can get Leone, but Hammel by himself is an overpay if Hammel is doing well.

              Any help is appreciated.

Not sure what your house rules are exactly, but I'd wait a couple of months to do any of this. Your guys need to get stats before another team will get interested. A minor deal for a RP is fine and realistic, but moving top prospects (Baez, Bundy) around is not realistic.

I agree 100% its not realistic, Im just looking for discussions on being fair with the guys I want to add to my team. I didn't plan on making any moves outside of possibly Leon until very near the trade deadline. With the Bundy, Baez discussion I was looking at adding something in on a Samardzija trade that could even out getting Bundy, even if I have to make a larger deal that involves more pieces. Baez just doesn't fit into any of my plans, so I thought I could add him and possibly a few pieces from Balt. to even it out.

I figured that since you were talking about your house rules, that you were going for realistic moves.

If you're not looking for only realistic trades, Bundy is roughly worth Samardzija or Baez, but not both together. Would probably be best for you to pitch Samardzija the first couple of months and if he does well, Bundy for Samardzija is actually not all that bad of a deal straight up, fairness-wise. Especially if BAL is contending. Bundy is listed as a mid A and high B on the spreadsheet, but I think he's probably closer to low A than mid A at this point.

I just didn't want to get trade happy and have an entirely new roster every 2 years. Im just giving limiting the amount of trades I can make and % of payroll I spend based on my record. As for realism, Im not as big on it as some guys on this thread. My outlook has always been if im theoretically taking over as gm/owner of the team I choose to play with, and I'm willing to make a deal that is fair and isn't taking advantage of trade logic, thats real enough for me. I appreciate the help a lot.

I want in to be fair for the most part, what pieces would need to be added to either side?

Where in the season are you? How's Milwaukee and San Diego doing? Stats for Headley and Ramirez?

Still pretty early in the season, I don't know the exact numbers off my head, but Im pretty sure that they are both putting up average numbers, nothing amazing and nothing terrible

You going for realism? One could make an argument for fair but the only way I see those two players being swapped are if the Brewers are rebuilding and have a shot a resigning a struggling Headley while the Padres could use a sizzling hot A-Ram to make a push for the playoffs
