Edit: In all seriousness, great blast over the green monster. Awesome story too. =)
Just so we are clear. I don't like the Yankees at all. But I approach this save file with a realistic mindset. Getting a 250,000,000 dollar deal is hard to pass up on.

And thanks, it was fun writing it.

I've been struggling mightily in the Majors.

Through 35 ABs, only 7 hits, but in my last two games I've hit my first and second major league homeruns, so I may be starting to find a groove now. Still, that .200 avg looks really bad, and the slash line of .200/.243/.429 is not worthy of a clean-up hitter (or a major leaguer, for that matter). I'm somewhat hoping they send me back to the minors for this season and I don't waste my rookie status for growing pains, but the club has fairly limited options since trading away Carpenter.
I've noticed that most of the time if you get called up early in the year, you start out really struggling at the plate. And I have never been sent back down to the minors yet with any player that was called up in May. It sucks because I haven't been able to win the RotY with any save file yet.

I'm not sure if it's been brought up already somewhere in this 52 page thread, but has anyone noticed the bizarre playcalling by CPU teams in RTTS? Specifically... bunting.

There is an awful lot of bunting in my RTTS. Strange ones at that. Just two quick examples...

Matt Kemp in a full count and 2 outs.
Jason Heyward 0-2 count with bases loaded

What on earth is going on here?

So I've been playing for the New Britain Rock Cats and have been stunned by the first 5 starts of our pitcher Lewis Thorpe. I'd love to know who made the CAP for this guy. Check out his 5 outings:

          April 6 vs Richmond: 9 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 11 K
          April 11 @ Portland: 9 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K
          April 16 @ New Hampshire: 9 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 11 K
          April 22 vs New Hampshire: 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 7 K
          April 27 @ Richmond: 9 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 10 K

          Lewis Thorpe's totals: 5-0, 4 CG Shutouts, 42 IP, 0.21 ERA, 0.62 WHIP, 5 BB, 45 K, 21 hits allowed on 149 batters faced.

Re: MLB 14 The Show PS4: Road to the Show Thread

I just finished my second season last night (first season in the bigs). Here's my journey so far.

Zak Gallagher, a speedy, contact-focused CF with no power to speak of, tore up the Showcase, batting over .500 with a few extra base hits and some stolen bags. The Twins liked what they saw and drafted him fourth overall.

Gallagher started in AA, and immediately began tearing the cover off the ball. Still no power, but he was batting above .300 and using his speed to disrupt pitchers all over the place. Of course, AAA CF was manned by Byron Buxton, a fantastic prospect in his own right. Gallagher knew at some point he may have to ask for a position change, if both players were going to co-exist.

After a few months in AA, Gallagher was batting .333 with 18 steals, and 2 inside the park homeruns (no regular HRs). The Twins thought it was time to move him up to AAA. Thankfully, it only took a few days for them to realize he should be playing everyday and started giving him starts all around the outfield or at DH. Gallagher struggled a bit more than he had at AA, and ended the season in AAA batting .273 with 2 LEGIT homers this time, and 35 steals (in 200-something at-bats!).

The Twins needed as much speed as they could get, and invited Gallagher to Spring Training to kick off the 2015 season. Unfortunately, in very limited at-bats, he struggled mightily. He only got 2 hits and ended up batting below .100. Gallagher expected he'd be sent back to AAA to keep improving daily while Buxton (who did fantastic in ST) seemed destined to move to the bigs and start. Much to Gallagher's surprise, BOTH he and Buxton made the opening day roster. Sadly, this meant Gallagher would begin the season on the bench, rather than playing everyday in AAA.

Starts were few and far between at first, and Gallagher continued checking in with his manager about whether he'd be better off as a right fielder (Osvaldo Arcia was starting in RF, and was not playing well). After a few months on the bench, Gallagher finally got his wish and was named the starting Right Fielder (with Arcia moving to DH full-time)! Then, after only a few more games, he was promptly traded to the Cubs...

At least there was no competition for starts in the Cubs organization, and Gallagher got a solid couple months of starting nearly every game. Eventually, with Justin Ruggiano struggling, Gallagher asked and was granted the opportunity to move back to his natural position in Center. There were some hot streaks, some slumps, but overall Gallagher ended the season batting .298 (was at .300 halfway through the last game, but couldn't quite hold on) with 3 big flies, and tied for the league lead in Steals with 57! Not bad for a rook, but not enough to get into the ROTY conversations, apparently.

Now in 2016, Zak Gallagher is cemented as the starting CF and leadoff hitter for the Cubs, who are looking to turn their fortunes around.

(BTW, for anyone who hasn't tried changing positions yet, note that each position is rated uniquely, so your overall may change when you switch. As a CF I was at 73 overall, and changing to RF made me a 70. Note sure if different stats are weighted differently for different positions. I have a terrible arm, which is less important in center but probably more important in right, so that may be part of it. If I was built more like a typical RF, my overall may have moved in the other direction. Not sure, just thought it was interesting.)

Re: MLB 14 The Show PS4: Road to the Show Thread

My WhiteSox SS finally got the call to the show in May of 2016. Rated at an 80 overall I felt the minor league seasoning helped (I didn't have any pre order points to use as I didn't preorder the game) although I wanted to be called up much earlier. Anyways, my first game was at US Cellular against the Yankees. With Alfredo Aceves on the mound I went 0-2 with 2 walks.

My first big league hit came the next day facing CC Sabathia. In the 5th inning on a 2-2 pitch sabathia threw a fastball over the outside corner (left hander hitter) and I was able to slap it past the 3rd baseman for a single, a rare occurrence for my power hitting SS.

I'm really enjoying the major leagues, and all the stadiums I've seen look great.

                Spoiler

Alright, update time. Click the spoiler above to see how this career started off.

                YEAR ONE

Otis made quick work of his time in AA. He wasn't playing out of his mind, but he was playing solid enough and the organization saw fit to move him up, seeing as how he's their top prospect and they are very needy for big league talent. After only 31 games played, he was sent to Oklahoma City to join the Redhawks.

Otis makes a diving catch for the Redhawks

His stay in AAA was much longer and much more fruitful. After acquiring Otis, the Redhawks stormed through the AAA ranks. I should have written it down or written this post earlier since you can't look at previous records in AAA, but we finished something like 40 games over .500 behind the powerful bat and speedy legs of Otis Jackson (distant relation of both Bo and Reggie, of course). Otis also got to enjoy a trip to the AAA all-star game despite most other players getting a 30-40 game head-start on him statistically.

Otis at the AAA All-Star Game in Tampa

Otis didn't get to join his teammates in the playoffs, though: he was a September call-up, and was inserted straight into the starting lineup at center field, moving Dexter Fowler to right field. Otis was a 79 overall at the time of being called up.

His month in the bigs was great for getting him acclimated to the elevated level of pitching talent. The playoffs were never a possibility so the Astros just sent a bunch of different lineups out there night in and night out to see what kind of young talent they had. The best part was that Otis got a taste of the Bigs, but he also got to retain his Rookie status for next season to make a run at the Rookie of the Year award.

Ultimately, Otis was a very productive player across all 3 levels of baseball.

                AA Corpus Christi: 31 games, 131 ABs, .290/.309/.511. 15 runs, 38 hits (6 doubles, 2 triples, 6 HR), 21 RBI. 4BB/15K. 10 steals.

                AAA Oklahoma City: 98 games, 406 ABs, .291/.314/.542. 68 runs, 118 hits (22 doubles, 7 triples, 22 HR), 85 RBI. 15BB/47K. 34 steals.

                MLB Houston: 21 games, 79 ABs, .266/.284/.456. 12 runs, 21 hits (0 doubles, 0 triples, 5 HR), 10 RBI. 2BB/17K. 3 steals.

So all in all, he hit 33 homers and had 47 stolen bases across 3 levels. Not bad. His obvious weak point right now is getting on base more often and being more patient at the plate, with only 21 combined walks in his first season.

                OFFSEASON

This took me a while to get through, not because there's a lot going on, but because I kept trying to avoid a certain outcome that kept happening over and over. I hoped if I kept simming the offseason over and over again, eventually it wouldn't happen, but alas I couldn't stop it.

That something was the team foolishly letting George Springer (who went into the offseason as a 76 overall, aged 24, with B potential) leave the team, for no reason. With an MLB service clock of 0.000, Springer could be retained for 80% of his previous year's salary (80k). But no matter what I did, no matter how many times I simmed, they never tendered him a contract in the offseason. He's currently playing for the Atlanta Braves' AAA team . The team also did the same thing with a young pitcher with B potential and a 71 rating, Woj... something. (I'm sure an Astros fan can tell me his name).

As much as this bothered me, I ultimately had to assume the attitude of "it's out of my control. You'll be a free agent eventually and you can go to whatever team you want."

                Year 2

Going into year 2, after all my numerous sim attempts, one thing I kept noticing was that the team was planting my *** on the bench to start the season in year 2. This made no sense to me. I even attempted a switch to LF so that they wouldn't have to try and move Dexter Fowler to a corner spot in order to make room for me. I would make room for him. No dice. Still the MLB backup in left field currently. I'm playing behind Alex Pressley (the backup CF) who is currently a 71, 14 points lower than my 3rd on the team 85 overall rating... and Xavier Nady, a 63 overall, 22 points lower than me. Those 2 guys platoon a position in which I am far and away the best option.

In fact, based off my first 34 AB's of the season (coming in spot starts or pinch hits) my adjusted overall is a 99.

I keep asking for more playing time every time it appears in the Interactions menu, but I keep getting responses like "Nady has a really hot bat, so we can't give you a start right now, but we'll get you one eventually." Meanwhile Nady is putting up a .224/.278/.355.

Never the less, Otis will keep chugging along, hopefully getting that starting spot sooner rather than later so that he can make a run at that ROTY award. Next time I update you guys I'm hoping it will be as a full-time starter.

Now that I got the hang of it, I started a new RTTS player. Another switch hitting shortstop and 5 tool player but I wanted to make sure I was drafted in the first round. After a stellar showing in the amateur showcase I was drafted 3rd overall by the ChiSox. I've been a men among boys, a superman among mere mortals in the minors so far. Just before being called up to AAA I hit for the cycle with the Barons.

Do the White Sox draft every A rated player. I have had a 1B and CP drafted third by them as well. Does it have something to do with me choosing the Central region when I create my player?

Oh, and my closing pitcher also uses the name Madrigal. Tommy Madrigal to be exact.

I dunno. My player was A rated but I was REALLY hoping he'd be drafted first by the Astros. That's fine, I'm in the same league and will make them pay.

I also was from the central region (he's a Texas native) and I chose Madrigal as a nod to the show Breaking Bad.

Could've saved before the draft and then tried a couple times to get drafted 1st.

My guy was drafted 1st by the Astros, then I was just curious to see if that was set in stone or if the draft could play out differently if I retried it. So I tried the draft again and was drafted by Miami at #2. I could've kept trying but I wanted to go #1 haha so I just went with that.

One thing that bugs me a bit, guy on 2nd I'm up to bat. I decide to bunt, P and 3B converge on the ball..whether I beat it out or not the runner at 2nd stays put. It happens almost all the time..RTTS btw.

Another question, on Detroit..1st season I get promoted AAA mid May. I play out the season there..so far I hit good at AA and AAA..2015 starts and again start at AA. The only thing I can figure is during the AAA playoffs I was terrible. Kind of bummed

                            Has that happened with anyone?

                              Has that happened with anyone?
Similar to me with Detroit as well. Got hurt to end the year in AAA. Sent to AA to start 2015. Lit it up and got sent right to the show about 1 1/2 - 2 months in.

                                Bubba "Big Country" Woods

At 6'7'' 256 lbs. LT Bubba "Big Country" Woods sounds like a UGA football commit. He has been committed to the Dawgs since his Jr. year but he will not be at Athens this fall. Woods has also been a top tier MLB prospect and this past weekend was drafted 12th overall by the San Diego Padres. The 1B prospect attended the MLB Showcase this past weekend and put on a show of his own. He batted .583 (7-12), 1 HR, 8 RBI, and had 4 Doubles leading the East All-Stars to a 3-0 record. Woods was named 1st team All-State the past two seasons and was the Gatorade Player of the Year for Football. He also was Georgia state Player of the Year after leading his team to a State Title batting .545 and hitting a state record 27 HRs.

The decision was shocking to coach Mark Richt. " I really thought he would come to UGA and be a two-sport athlete. He has all the tools to grow in to a solid LT for us and improve our baseball program. I was a little shocked at his decision but he is a stand up guy and I wish the best for him."

Friends describe Woods as the most country guy you will ever see. " He has a jacked up Chevy, Cope tins in his back pocket, country always blaring out the window, and looks like he came straight from the hills." said Jesse Jones, a high school friend of Woods. " He really is the biggest redneck I have ever seen."

Bubba Woods will report to AA San Antonio for his debut against the Springfield Cardinals on Tuesday.
