Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread
1st overall that is tough to many choices
Damn................
Trout or Correa
I took Correa with my first pick 29th pick, but having the first pick means I could take Trout. Man that is toughComment

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread
So, I haven't done this yet because I don't have this year's game yet. (I just ordered a ps4 and the game on Amazon. Pretty much getting ps4 for the show.)
I had a really fun idea for a fantasy draft franchise and I tried a version of it in last year's game. Basically this is the idea: build my team with the best 9 or 10 pitchers I can get, regardless of starters or relievers, and very versatile position players. Have an NL team without the DH and rarely, if ever, let a pitcher hit. This means that each pitcher will pitch pretty often, but only ever pitch 1-3 innings at a time. The "starter" will never get a win. I'll probably have lots of holds and a decent amount of saves. A lot of double switches. The whole mentality is maximizing ABs. Players like Sam Fuld would be much more valuable on a team like this being able to come in late most games and steal a base/play strong defense. I can stack the team so that three or four pitchers end up getting the bulk of the wins, which could be very interesting. Most position players would end up playing every game. I can make great use of platoon players.
The only problem I ran into in my "test" from last year's game was anytime I warmed up a starter and brought him in (even when I have him in the bullpen and not rotation) his energy level is at about 75%. I'm wondering if I need to edit all pitchers to be relievers to fix this.
I know this is a different way to play baseball, but it seems like it could be a fun experiment. Anyone have any comments or ideas/strategies for drafting and running a team like this? I definitely want to target players like Kyle schwarber or buster posey who can catch and play in the field. Players who can play both the infield and outfield are also helpful. Ben zobrist. Josh harrison. I'm also not opposed to editing some players positions as long as it's reasonable, such as Carlos correa adding 3B as a secondary position. Not gonna make Papi an outfielder though. I'd like to avoid the older DHs who really don't play the field in real life. I look forward to hearing what people think of this!
Used Colorado just for theoretical purposes of not needing great offensive players.
My first 9 picks went like this for pitching. I debated a long while between a top tier closer or Greinke/Sale for first pick.
1.10 CP Jansen 93
2.21 SP Strasburg 87
3.10 SP Corbin 85
4.21 SP Wacha 83
5.10 SP Kazmir 82
6.21 SP Nola 81
7.10 RP Betances 90
8.21 RP Watson 84
9.10 RP Diekman 80
Then after that was time to fill out the rest of the roster with a bunch of versatile hitters. I missed out on some of the better players with C as secondary, which seems very important. So I went with three catchers on my 25-man roster instead.
C Arencibia 71 (1B) (power catcher)
C Ramos 75 (more all-around contact/power)
C Hedges 67 (best defensive catcher of the three, in case that is needed)
1B Bird 75 (only one without a secondary position, I just missed out on Myers who I really wanted. But Bird has B potential and from Colorado, was hard to pass up)
2B Bonifacio 74 (3B, SS, LF, CF, RF)
3B Johnson 77 (1B, 2B, LF, RF)
3B Garcia 73 (2B, LF, CF, RF)
SS Escobar 76 (2B, 3B, LF, RF)
SS Miller 76 (2B, LF, CF, RF)
LF Van Slyke 75 (1B, CF, RF)
CF Kike 76 (2B, 3B, SS, LF, RF)
CF Santana 77 (2B, SS, LF, RF)
RF Piscotty 79 (1B, LF, CF)
Rounded out the 25-man roster with three more bullpen arms
Collmenter 71
Parra 71

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread
For anyone interested, when I do the draft I will be notating my first 60 picks (round & pick #). I can post the whole list in addition to my 25 just for depth purposes. I normally try to draft a solid veteran or 2 that will be QO'd at years end, and a decent 2-3 yr contract. So for someone like me, those later picks are more important. Just food for thought, let me know either way.MLB The Show 20

I like the team. Pitching should keep you in the games, hopefully they don't give up to many long balls while at home. Gray and Hamels at the top is amazing
I think you could have gotten a better closer at the 6th pick thouComment

Agreed on that 6th pick closer. Just wasn't anyone I was in love with there. I liked grilli but he was a bit to old for my liking, hoping to get a closer in the offseason, or transition Gott. I'll be playing every game so I'll keep updates on here, maybe weekly (in game time)MLB The Show 20

Yeah I see your point there. I stayed away from any of my Astros since that's my real franchise, but totally slipped my mind on storen. Somehow I lucked out and got to play vs David price & darvish the first two gamesMLB The Show 20

Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread
After that is decided I tend to try to build up the middle first and foremost. CF, SS, 2B and Catcher are critical to being successful and making your pitching staff even stronger than it may appear on paper.
Love your write up. Why do you consider drafting a catcher so important? In real life, completely understand the value. In the show however, I dont see any value at all.
Having a great defensive catcher for me is important in controlling the running game, and also having confidence as a pitcher to throw junk with runners on with the confidence they will block and keep the ball in front of them. And then if they can hit....well then they are extremely valuable. So finding a really good catcher is something I make sure I don't forget to do. And you can get very good defensive catchers at a value. I don't have to draft them early. Now Playing on PS5:
