Re: Official MLB The Show 16 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Well, safe to say that my last idea didn't really fly, as I only got one feedback. Oh well, it was a long shot anyway.

Today is my first full day off since...a month I think. So my draft is officially on the way. I'm at round 12 now, and facing quite a dilemma.

I managed to secure 3 starters, 1 closer and 1 setup man in the first 11 rounds. So I feel comfortable with the pitching staff at this point. So I'm looking to add a bat to my line-up.

My choices are: (3B) Chase Headley, (LF) Yasmani Tomas or (RF) Gregory Polanco. All three I assume will go this round (I intend to pick a pitcher next round anyway).

I don't want to give away my line-up just yet, which will make it harder to explain, but I'll give it a try anyway.

    Chase Headley
My team is fairly young, so I'm intrigued by the possibility of adding a veteran to the mix. Right now, I'm a bit RHB heavy, especially in the middle of my line-up, so I like the fact that he's a switch handed batter, and although I have a good young 3B, I could move him to 1st base for now (which would allow me to use my power hitting 1B to the DH spot).

    Yasmani Tomas
I don't really need an outfielder, as I already have three everyday starter. But I kinda like the flexibility that Tomas would give me. Either replacing someone in the outfield, can also play 3rd base (maybe platoon him there with my young LHB 3B...or allow him to move him to 1B). Would also make a good DH.

    Gregory Polanco
Would bring a much need LHB to the line-up, although I'm not quite sure how I would use him, since my OF is already set. I guess I could use my RF as a DH, but it seems like a bit of waste considering his defense isn't really that bad. I like Polanco's speed and discpline though, and the fact that he can play all three OF position is surely a plus. I already have a very good hitter at #1 (who's also a LHB) so adding a Polanco right behind him could prove to be a very interesting option against RHP.

I know it's kinda hard to judge by that, but if you have any take whatsoever, I'm all ears. I forced myself to draft at a rank that I wasn't really familiar with, and so far I'm very happy with the result, and don't wanna mess it up.

    Thanks.

I agree with Headley. Seems like he would help you sort your lineup the most. All the moves you'd make with him make sense.

I like the idea of Polanco, but it seems like he'd cause some clashing. When I read about you maybe moving your RF to DH, I was intrigued because, depending on the RF's overall defense, that's not a bad idea. But since you say the RF's defense isn't bad, maybe not (but does the current RF have a RF's arm...i.e. pretty high Arm Strength?)

Yeah...in fact, I'd say his fielding and reaction may be "average" sorta speak for an everyday starter, but he definately has a RF arm.

Francisco Lindor has been placed on the 15 day DL and is expected to miss 1-2 months after fracturing his forearm in a freak injury sliding into second base on a take out slide to break up a double play.

Ruben Tejada was called up from AAA and will platoon with rookie Jacob Herzberg.

Oh no, That's gonna hurt! I noticed when I did my draft I took Correa #1, and then completely blew off SS. Didnt draft any minors depth until like round 60!

Between Tejada, Holt and Herzberg we have it covered. I love having a player like Brock Holt. He makes it really easy to give guys days off, as well as injury depth. Lindor will return moat likely in June. He was off to a torrid start going 5/6 in his first two games and every hit was laced.

Kenta Madea pitched 7 strong and Greg Bird went yard and finished 2-4 with 3 RBI's as the Red Birds won 4-1 and are a gane away from a 3 game sweep to start the season.

Hey do you guys pay attention to the player morale screen at all while drafting ? Or will that change anyway once the player has been assigned to his new team ?

Only thing I pay attention to is if they care about being close to home. The rest will change depending on your staff and where you put them

That was the main reason I drafted holt tons of playing time and good enough to fill in if someone's injured for a few weeks.

I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

Opening Day for Red Sox, Sale pitches well but leaves with leg "tightness" in the 3rd inning. Bundy comes in cold (thanks SDS for not letting pitchers warm after injury) and gives up 5 runs. He's fine after settling in (and warming up) but Kershaw with a 5-run lead is basically impossible.

Red Sox lose 5-1. Kershaw goes the distance, striking out 12 in the process.

After the game, no injury reported...so whatever the "tightness" was magically disappeared...
