Just saw this article on USGamer

She mentions having a somewhat mixed experience with her new TV and HDR in this game as well

Re: MLB The Show 17 Supports 4K & HDR on PS4 Pro

I've been testing. I prefer playing the game in high framerate mode. And I've noticed, whenever I began a new game, the visuals are undoubtedly darker ... especially during evening/night games. Mind you, I've had HDR intensity (in the game itself) cranked up to the max.

If -- in game -- I toggle to either enhanced visuals or 4K mode, the brightness is immediately pumped up...to where they should be with my given HDR intensity settings. And, it's not my mind making up things that are not there -- the difference is clear as night & day. Once I switch back to my desired high framerate mode, it stays at this brightness.

The problem is, once I exit the current game in progress and return to the MLB main menu, and I start up a new game, the darker visuals return and I have to repeat the visual mode toggling.

Hoping San Diego Studios can get this fixed...

This game looks fantastic in HDR, but the moment you change any settings in the options it throws everything off and the picture gets extremely bright. So for now what I do is make sure I set everything up before starting the game and it won't affect anything. I'm sure this is something that will be patched. As long as you have your settings properly it looks really good in HDR.

Since there's so much TV talk here I wanted to advise that anyone who is looking to upgrade their TV make sure you spend the bit extra and get an OLED. It's ridiculous how much better they are than the LEDs. It funny seeing seeing all this talk about fine tuning the settings and the HDR intensity sliders and stuff and everyone has an LED. I PROMISE you the game would look better on a standard PS4 and an OLED than with a Pro and HDR/4K on an LED. Either get a pro and an OLED or stick with a regular PS4 and cheap 1080 set. The middle ground isn't too hot.

For the people earlier saying they were seeing a halo on the helmets, during night games, and also their screen was flickering during pitch selections. It isn't anything having to do with your TV, or your setup. It must be a shortcoming with the current engine. So don't waste your time trying to figure it out on your end.

Even playing on 4K mode, I get the graphics flicker between pitches and the halo on helmets. The only jaggies I ever see are most of the cutscenes that show the foul lines. That's really it. Don't see jaggies on railings or the wires, or really anything but the foul lines anymore.

Game mode on Sony 43x800d requires you to manually turn on HDR in the picture menu. If you use cinema pro or cinema home, it will automatically detect HDR.

For this game I am speaking.

That's non sense. Regular PS4 and HDR ultra hd tv is night and day compared to last year on regular PS4 and non HDR 1080p.

It was like buying a new console when I bought my tv Sunday. For the money, I think the opposite is true.

Yeah, I've seen mixed opinions on Warm 2 for video games. I use Warm 2 for watching anything, but for games I go with Warm 1. As long as you're using one of the warm settings, you should be good. What really screws up the picture though, is cool or standard. You don't want those at all.

I have the same settings, however the game is dark. The only way I have found to remedy this for my KS8000 is to turn dynamic contrast to medium.

The halo thing is bad IMO. I see it with HDR on and with HDR off.....its with every visual mode. I don't see it at all in Suntrust playing as the Braves at night, but played a night game in Dodger Stadium and its bad there. I have noticed it at some stadiums and not at others.

For you guys that are struggling with your HDR setting being to dark I was wondering if you are using really high quality HDMI cables? Do you guys that know what you're talking about think this could come in to play? lol Just a thought. MY 8500 curved looks sick in game mode with all the eco stuff off but i do think the intensity at about 50% works best. I love it at 100% but then I lose track of the ball! lol

From my experience, unless you are dealing with 8ft or longer HDMI cables, they are all basically the same.
