I looked up all post-processing settings on your TV. They are listed and should be set as follows:

    Auto Picture Mode: Off
    Light Sensor: Off
    Black Adjust: Off
    Advanced Contrast Enhancer: Off
    Live Color: Off
    Reality Creation: Off
    Random Noise Reduction: Off
    Digital Noise Reduction: Off
    Motionflow: Off
    Cinemotion: Off
    HDR Mode: Auto

Calibration without any of these on is most ideal, including when using HDR.

Exactly what I did, I was just messing with those two settings...Live Color and Contrast Enhancer. Question for you Sammy owners... Digital Foundry recommended having Smart LED on High. Is that not essentially Dynamic Contrast? And do you guys that own any of the Sammys have this on High as is recommended?

So did a few hours of testing HDR on my Sony 43x800D last night. I need to do more testing to figure out the sweet spot on two settings. Namely, the HDR Intensity in the game and the Contrast setting on the TV itself.

I have tried the HDR setting at 0, 25, 50 and 100. The game looks best somewhere between 25-50. I then tried playing around with the different settings in the Contrast Enhancer (Dynamic Contrast if you will) as well as the Live Color. Right from the get go, I think the Live Color should be off. Yes it increases the "pop"...But artificially so. Just my opinion and more on this later.

I also used all four settings on Contrast Enhancer, really three because Off and Low are almost indistinguishable. If I HAD to use one, I'd use Medium. However, you will definitely start losing detail in the dark parts and especially in the brightest parts of the screen. To me not worth it.

I then put everything back to default for HDR and started playing around with the Contrast. I found at 90 the screen is a little on the dull side. On 100, it's overkill. Night games look like day games. The sweet spot is somewhere in between. I tested this on HDR Intensity of 50 in game.

I have a feeling the sweet spot for HDR Intensity is somewhere in the 20's or 30's (based on one of the devs nit calculations, saying 1000 nits should be set to 3/4 full for HDR Intensity) and then Constrast somewhere in the 92-97 range. I will play around with this tonight but even at 50 HDR and Contrast of 93 last night, the image looked remarkably better than before. This setting actually re-introduced some of that colour pop without making the image look fake.

Anyone with this TV I would strongly encourage you not to mess around with any artificial processing such as Live Color or Contrast Enhancer. Instead, focus on HDR Intensity and the base Contrast setting.

I also obviously restarted the game from the dashboard any time I made a change. Tedious to say the least but I refuse to think the HDR in this game can't be a game-changer to some degree after it very much was in Horizon.

Here's the problem when you turn off Live Color; the game just dulls too many colors.

Trust me I spent 3 day just going in and out checking settings.

You need to follow rtings calibration setup.. only change should be live color medium or high (would love to leave off but just not going to look like it should without it)

I did change color to 55 some and back to default 50. Trust me the game looks flawless.

I have my HDR setting at 20 clicks from 0. Half way is way too high for this TV. No way it will look right at half without changing color and then it starts to look too cartoonish. (Of course that's my opinion on this lol)

If you do find a way to do it without live color on that would be awesome man but I've tried about all you can do lol.

If you go back some, I've posted pics of my game and I think they're spot on now.

              EDIT::

I did want to add that I hope you pursue HDR without live color and find the right slider settings. Unfortunately, not sure if it's possible on this TV though since we have no calibration in game for the slider. I really hope you nail it though! Lol

Re: MLB The Show 17 Supports 4K & HDR on PS4 Pro

Sorry if this was mentioned already, but with the high frame rate mode, did anyone else noticed that input lag was significantly worse? I ended up going back to 4K hdr and dealing with the lesser frame rate so that it was playable for me. (I have the ks8000).

Also I tried odoggs recommended settings and I feel like with dynamic contrast off it looks very dark. I'm guessing it's something I'd have to get used to but I almost feel like I can't see certain details unless it's turned on. I have hdr pumped up all the way and it looks awesome when dynamic contrast is on high.

I agree with you that 50 on HDR Intensity in The Show settings is way too high. I mentioned somewhere in the 20's or 30's is ideal for this TV. However, and this is strictly opinion and echoing what Blzer has mentioned multiple times in this thread....The less artificial processing you use, the better overall picture you will have. You just have to put the time in to achieve that picture.

Next time you play, turn off Live Color and jack your contrast up to 100. You get that pop back in a more natural way. It's just too bright at 100 but I think in the end, a picture with an HDR Intensity in the 20's or 30's and Contrast in the 90's somewhere, will be perfect. With all processing off.

Just my opinion. Great discussion in here overall.

Rtings calibration settings max the contrast already. It's still washed out without live color.

Sure you don't want artificial processing if possible but honestly, it looks so damn good anyways if that's all I have to do, I'm settling lol.

Just try to set settings to rtings calibration - change live color to medium or high and count 20 clicks from 0 on HDR slider and see what you think. That might a compromise we have to live with.

Smart LED makes the lighter areas of the picture brighter while making the darker areas darker.
My experience with HDR on the show with my KS8000 has been kind of a challenge. I have some games where it looks perfect and HDR is definitely a game changer. While sometimes it just looks too dark during day games.
I settled on HDR intensity at about 75%
I had to turn dynamic contrast to medium or I couldn't get proper lighting even with backlight maxed.
I turned my brightness to 43 and use warm 1 color temperature.
I am playing in game mode as well.

Is anyone with a ks8000 and a Pro having hdr issues?

The original PS4 offers a form of HDR but it's not true enabled HDR and thus probably why some folks may have issues with using it. I have the KS850D (which is the Costco curved version of the KS8000) and have no issues using it.

Also, I know some of you guys are using Dynamic Contrast but your eyes will tend to adjust if you give it some time with it set to off. I also was using it on Medium at one time.

Just try to set settings to rtings calibration - change live color to medium or high and count 20 clicks from 0 on HDR slider and see what you think. That might a compromise we have to live with.

My friend, I also worship at the altar of rtings.com lol. And with my Samsung JU7500 last year, the settings they recommended were spot on. With this TV? I don't know how anyone can watch sports or TV shows with Color at 50. It's eye-piercing red. And that's with calibrating the color to their specifications. So I started with their settings as a base and worked my way on from there. My Color is somewhere in the 30's for watching sports and TV but default 50 for games. I also completely disagree with them that there's no difference in Sharpness at 50 (play an Xbox One game, which are mostly at 720p, and tell me it doesn't look better with Sharpness around 25).

I did try Live Color on, at all ranges of HDR Intensity. 0, 25, 50 and 100. The colours pop but you lose the gradient in the colours. I'd rather deal with a slightly duller picture and have the colours show as many of the so-called 1.07 billion colours as possible when using a Wide Colour Gamut enabled television. I feel there's a sweet spot with all the artificial processing off and the HDR Intensity slider played around with as well as the base Contrast rating.

That's obviously my personal opinion. If you're enjoying HDR with Live Color on, I think you should keep using it and enjoying the heck out of it like you are. I'm going to continue on this crusade to get HDR working properly on this set because it works like a charm with other games.
