Re: Official MLB 17 : Road to the Show Thread

It didn't take long for D.J. Reynolds to make the jump from AAA to the majors. As soon as September call ups came around, D.J. was called up to play with the struggling Milwaukee Brewers. Reynolds would go on to make his debut against the Cincinnati Reds on the road. Reynolds struggled early on in his major league career, going 0 for his first 7 and not getting a single hit in the series against the Reds, but did draw a pair of walks. His first hit would actually come in his first career game at Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs, off of starter Jake Arrieta. We are still in mid September as D.J. tries to make a good impression going into next season.

Re: Official MLB 17 : Road to the Show Thread

Going to try to create another starting pitcher. I made 3 starting pitchers (pre-patch) and all three were called up straight to the Majors in late June. Hopefully the patch takes care of that, if that is what the patch notes mean by "player progression fixes". I don't expect my career to be 100% realistic but going straight to the majors at 18 isn't what I expect either.

My 3rd baseman A.J. Relerford, in just my 3rd season in the majors with the Mariners, gets to celebrate his first world series championship. Our lineup was stacked with me, Tom Rizzo, and Freddie Freeman. I hit 32 HRs, Rizzo hit 36 and Freeman led the AL with 43. Josh Bromberg and Jake Peters(who won world series MVP) had amazing post seasons while I struggled. The trade of King Felix hasn't hurt the pitching staff at all. Still find myself striking out a lot, but I'm also getting more walks so my patience is paying off. Arbitration went off without any issues and I signed a 3 year deal with Seattle. I should be eligible for free agency in 2026 at age 27. My goals remain the same, win a few gold gloves and destroy the Yankees for trading me every chance I get. The gold glove at 3rd is Manny Machado's every year so I don't know if I'll get one anytime soon but at least I can beat up on NY a few times a year.

Well, I feel like an idiot. I put some points into durability and now I'm starting. The manager didn't hate me, he was just trying not to overuse me.

I'm still hitting over .300 after the difficulty increased to Hall of Fame+ but my average has dropped a little. What exactly changes with the different difficulty levels?

Personally with yours I might be inclined to grab a sinker for attacking low in the zone or go with the boring slider to attack the hands of lefties or low and away breaking out of the zone to righties (assuming you're a righty). If you're more inclined to pitching to contact I'd take the sinker. For power the slider.
Thanks for the suggestion. Yes Im a righty. Pardon my ignorance but what is the characteristic of RFB and Cutter as compared to Sinker? I dont play baseball in life (more of hockey ) but MLB is very addicting especially the RTTS. Sad to say but its true IMO, that MLB 17 is far superior that the EA NHL.

Looks like it's rtts for me this year. Franchise just isn't holding my interest this year. The new addition to rtts really makes it fun to play. Last year it just felt blah. I knew what team I was on, I knew my posistion. It just got repetitive. This year is a whhole new bang!

Just finished my 5th season, 4th full MLB season with my CF on the Cards. I won a silver slugger, and we made the wild card game, unfortunately we lost to the brewers. I have two more years to go till I hit FA. We did sign 99 ovr Strausburg in the off season to be the ace of the team.

From a RH pitcher a cutter bores in on the hands of a left handed batter. Think of it like a faster mini-slider.

A running fastball, is usually thrown to the outside and runs away from the left handed batter. (Much like a 2 seam FB except a 2 seamer has some drop to it as well) the runner is a "flatter" pitch with little vertical movement.

I'm starting to think they do it just to do it, change positions. No rhyme or reason. I'm a closer, they decided to use me as a starter but I go max 4 innings because my stamina is 30. This game is funny.

Went to the World Series again with the Indians and lost to the Dodgers.

In the off season the Indians acquired Bryce Harper. Not sure how, but I'm pretty happy with that signing/acquisition. Only issue I'm having with it right now is the Indians got him as a DH when he could be playing CF instead of Tyler Naquin. Makes no sense to me.

After hitting three home runs in his last game Byron Reed got the call up to Triple A Rochester. In his 3rd at bat of his first game greatness struck when he took a ball over the right field wall for the first career AAA home run! Despite this the first game would end in a loss as the Buffalo Bisons would hit a walk off two run homer to win 10-8. The future however, is looking bright for Reed.

Anyone finding pitching to be way too easy? After the patch, I started a SP who got drafted by the Brewers. I put some stubs in to up his overall a bit and I have some good equipment on him, so he got called up to the big leagues in July because the Brewers lack pitching depth.

So, I started off on All-Star difficulty with analog pitching, eventually moving up to HOF and Legend because it was too easy. I even took the equipment off at one point and I was still having no issues getting hitters out and blowing through lineups even while intentionally trying to hang pitches.

My pitcher is a 73 overall. It feels weird going through lineups like a hot knife through butter.
