    MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread

I'm at the trade deadline with the Marlins in my first season. I'd like to add some pitching help as I'm 7 games above .500 and 1.5 up on the mets for the division at the time.

I'm looking to add a decent lefty to the bullpen and if possible a solid starter.

I'm looking at Perkins from the Twins who are way out of contention. He is a free agent after the year and being 34 years old he seems like a solid rental. His stats are 1-2, 23 saves, 3.14 ERA, 1.05 WHIP. What would it take to get him?

I'm also mildly interested in Ervin Santana who is 7-6 with a 3.52 ERA, 1.20 WHIP. If he would cost me a lot then I'd probably pass at his age and salary, but if it wouldn't cost me too much to do a package I'd like to get both.

    Thanks for any input.

Edit- I ended up trading Jose Urena and a C potential prospect SP for Perkins. Decided Not to pursue Santana

Yeah, I'm really not sure of what fair value is here. And unsure how the rest of baseball views the Phils current prospect crop.

I picked up Groome in a trade for Maikel Franco who, unlike the real Maikel Franco was hitting well. Boston came calling looking for a solid 3B for a playoff run and also needed pen help. I sent Franco and Neris to Boston for Devers and Groome (and ate Sandoval's contract). Had no intentions of moving Franco but after looking at the trade I thought it made tons of sense.

I usually don't respond because I don't consider myself much of an expert on this stuff (which is why I turn to this forum for help). I may be a homer here but I wouldn't do that deal as a Red Sox fan. Partly because I think Devers is going to be very good, but mainly because they would basically be trading the only two good prospects they have left. If they were going to completely deplete their farm system by trading those two (which I hope Dombrowski doesn't do) I think they could do much better.

I agree it makes tons of sense for the phillies but very little sense for the Sox to do that trade. Again I may be way off though and completely bias.

Really appreciate the input. I thought it made pretty good sense for both clubs at the time as Sox were getting little production from Sandoval and needed another pen option for a playoff run. After picking up Sale I figured Dombrowski was all in on making a run for it. Again, Franco was producing and is still only 24. Phillies are still years away and I agree, Devers seems like a pretty safe bet to be very solid but his production wouldn't be needed for another year or two. That was just my thought on the trade.

I think as far as video game land goes it's a fine trade. Hell with Dombrowski maybe he will trade the whole damn farm. I just wouldn't do it from a Sox perspective because it really mortgages the future. But third base and bullpen are both huge issues for the Sox right now in real life so I can understand the reasoning. And if it were to lead to them winning the World Series then who is to say it's a bad trade.

Yeah, I like to be able to split the difference between real life and the trades the computer proposes (or my own crackpot ideas) whenever possible. It makes for a much more fun and realistic franchise that I might actually keep playing several seasons in, which is what makes this thread such a darn good resource. That said, I never floated this trade on here so it's nice to get feedback on it. It felt "fair" in the sense that the value exchanged even out, especially when considering need but it's impossible to gauge how "high" a system is on a prospect. And now that I have Groome ive gown attached to seeing him in the rotation in a few years but feel like I might need to include him in order to pry Villar away.

                Hi all,

I'm currently using my beloved Reds and I'm looking for some help on a couple trades. I'm interested in acquiring Jorge Soler and/or Matt Strahm from Kansas City. What are your suggestions? (It can be two separate deals). I'm really not looking to give up any starters on my team, so I'm unsure if it will be possible to acquire both. What do you all suggest I do?
                MLB: Cincinnati Reds
                NFL: Indianapolis Colts
                NBA: Indiana Pacers

                  Hello All!

I post earlier about selling some TB Rays starting pitching, but I have made a play off push and I am 1 game out of the second wild card spot.

I am interested in Jean Segura from the Mariners. The Mariners are 5 games behind the wild card so I am not sure they would be sellers, and they just traded Walker for him so is this realistic?

IF it is what would I have to give up for him? He is hitting .312, I can't remember his other stats but decent HR/SB.

I haven't made any other trades so my team is the OFSM 2.75 rosters. I only added Wander Samuel Franco from FA as I saw the Rays are favorite to sign him.

EDIT: I am trying to be pretty realistic with the Rays. I know they are a small market team with a small budget, so would it be better to home grow talent?

Honestly, if the M's are only 5 out, depending on where you're at in your franchise, he's realistically unavailable. They have no one else who could play SS. Plus not only did they just trade for him IRL, they just signed him to a long term extension. You could try getting Motter or O'Malley but they're both not much better than who you already have.

2017 Post All Star Break. He hasn't signed the extension in my franchise, would that make him a FA at the end of the season? Should I just wait and sign him?

I understand they just traded for him. I am a Dbacks fan and I loved watching him last year, but if it doesn't make sense it doesn't make sense.

It doesn't make sense unless you severely overpay.

What are good 2B options? Brad Miller is struggling (.144 BA) and I want to bring in a new piece for a possible run. I am also open to a SS as Duffy could move to the 2b spot.

Zack Cozart as a rental SS. Brian Dozier if you're willing to pay a hefty sum. Brandon Phillips for a penny. Jed Lowerie from the A's to list a few

I actually signed Brett Lawrie in my Rays franchise. He makes a really nice complement to Miller versus lefties.
