Lol yes they are. Ohtani threw 102. Darvish used to touch 100. Tanaka upper 90’s. You think these guys didn’t throw 100 until they came to the US? There are plenty of hard throwers in Japan. Yes, it’s more of a finesse game. But gimme a break. Ohtani’s bat speed is his best hitting tool. Catching fastballs won’t be a problem.

I think you should watch more NPB and also Ohtani highlights. Check his scouting reports too. Then you can form a more informed opinion.

the fact that they have not said yes to 2 way players tells me that it isn't in the game. this is the little things stream afterall

they would have said yes and talked about it as a big feature.

Not my point at all. Also not relevant to Ohtani’s talent level.

Nobody has done it since Babe Ruth, there is a reason for that. and your asking a guy who has never played in the States before to do it?? when guys now throw hard. it's nothing like Japan, they also have a extra day rest there. I know the Angels are talking about a 6 man rotation not going to happen someone will get injured.

As for the game... I missed the start of the stream./.. did anyone notice when they started up their game with their lineups. if pitchers could be put into the lineup?? if there answer is no. there is your answer to 2 way players being in the game.

I think we all understand you're bullish on Ohtani's chances of succeeding. The fact still remains that the Angels announced they will have a six man rotation and will be using Ohtani as a DH around 3 times a week.

We can not do either of those things currently in the game.

Because no player has had the opportunity. If they go to college, the coaches make them choose one side of the ball. If they come out of high school, the minor league coaches force them into one position. It’s going to become a more regular thing. It’s happening more and more each year. Eventually those guys will start to make the major league rosters. Ohtani is the first guy who had the leverage to force the team to let him hit and pitch, or else he wouldn’t sign. Because he’s so talented.

Japan is at what would be considered a AAAA level. There isn’t this vast disparity you’re describing. You act as if they’re equivalent to AA or something. They’re vastly superior to AAA and are the second best league in the world just behind MLB. Watch more NPB. You’re clearly very uninformed on the actual talent level over there. Yes they have 6 days rest, but that can and has been overcome with past players coming over.

By the way, the Angels have like 10 capable starters. They definitely have the depth for a six man rotation unless you think 5 guys will get hurt all at once. Tropeano, Richards, Ohtani, Skaggs, Heaney, Ramirez, Bridwell, Meyer, Shoemaker and then John Lamb if they can fix him, who was a starter for Cincinnati.

and as soon as 2 pitchers go down injured in April (which EVERY TEAM deals with) they will have to go back to 5 man rotation., it won't ever last./

Remember when the yankees wanted to do this for tanaka?:? it never happened.

See comment above. Yankees didn’t have pitching depth. They had a pretty awful rotation when Tanaka arrived. Headlined by such lovely pieces as Michael Pineda and Ivan Nova or the shell of CC Sabathia.

Meyer is done guys never come back from Shoulder Surgery look at pineda and Smiley.

if you have seen the Angels curse the last 2 years it is possible 5 guys can get hurt at once LOL

Richards and Skaggs have hardly pitched in 2 years. Shoemaker got injured last year. the list goes on all injury prone

Re: Shohei Otani in The Show

Anyway guys, from that last stream my confidence of 2 way players being in the game is at a 0 now. they never answer the question that was asked 100 times, the closest we got was 'can't answer about guys not in the game'

if you go back and look when they set their lineups there was no pitchers to put in there, that tells me the option isn't in the game. unless they are adding it in for Otani who will be a created player which i can't see happened. if it does that would be exportable to us to use for anyone.

We know his batting stance is in the game which is a strange one.

EDIT just checking the stream again, I noticed they wouldn't let us look at them choose the lineups lol

I mentioned earlier in the thread, but I'll reiterate. This has already been done with Jason Lane. On this year's game, (in my universe) Ohtani is a P/OF.

hang on a minute your saying you managed to get him as a pitcher and a outfielder and will be on the roster as a outfielder ?? so he comes up as a option on the lineup screen??

if so is this uploaded to the vault?? If so I have to see this and we can transfer it ourselves for next year!

EDIT I am sorry I re read your post earlier and I didn't read it properly the first time.. in this case. we don't have to wait for a SCEA create a player update we can simple export him in for this years roster

I have him as a P with secondary as OF. He can play both. He does not show up as an option on the lineup screen, hence the frustration, lol.
