Re: Shohei Otani in The Show

I don't know what the deal is but this thread of speculation is gonna keep going until we hear a yes or no.

and my guess is he will be a created player which means this whole damm question will run till the mid of April until he is actually put into the game, in which case if they do put in 2 way player for him would make him exportable and we would be able to use that for ALL players with 2 way.

Funny thing is all this speculation will happen and he will be added to the game then probably 2 days later he will be injured or the Angels will say we are only using him as a pitcher now LOL I can see that happening.

In any case I won't be waiting till Mid April for a roster update so I will just simply have him as a pinch hitter. won't be able to do that for the CPU though unless I do the old swap controller trick, I can just do it in the 1st innings and sacrifice a bench sub

Don't they release a roster update every week? The season starts on the 29th. Why would it be until mid-April to get him in the game?

You don’t remember last year? It took 2 weeks of the season for the first update, because of all the transactions and players to create, this year will
Take even more work because of about 80 free agents still looking for a team. The first up date takes the longest, is rstger export and import the players from 17 myself in spend a few days doing it then waiting for 1 player.

Once again s import player option into franchise would solve this waiting issue

If they tell him he’s not gonna hit anymore, I would not be surprised at all if he just goes back to Japan. It was the most important thing to him. People are seriously underrating this. He explicitly wanted to hit. He wanted it in the contract that he HAD to hit. He chose the Angels because they basically guaranteed him over 300 PA’s. Why do we keep pretending the Angels can do whatever they want? He has the leverage, because he is the talent.

Chris Gill, or any other talent they use to do animations, could just put on the suit and mo-capped his stance. It has nothing to do with the MLBPA or Spring Training or anything else. Using his name/likeness is a MLBPA issue, but simply mimicking his stance and motion and putting them into the game isn't. They've been doing it the last few years with highly touted prospects who haven't been called up yet. They mo-cap the stance and list it under "Prospect Stance X."

              I simply said he himself wasn’t mo-capped.

I don't think anyone was thinking that he himself physically went to SDS and mo-capped his own stance. That would be ridiculous, there's probably less than 10 players in the game that have gotten that treatment. But someone likely mo-capped his stance, and the fact that they went through the trouble of doing so alludes to SDS possibly having something in the works regarding his 2-way abilities.

He’s under contract for 6 years. Where’s he going?

There is zero truth to any of this. He's never said that hitting is the most important thing to him. There's nothing in his contract that says he has to hit. He only reason he's given for choosing the Angels is that he "felt a connection" with them. He's under contract for 6 years. He could technically retire to get out of it if he wanted, but why would he when he left literally hundreds of millions of dollars on the table to come to MLB early?

I didn’t say anything was actually in the contract. Just that I read that that’s how passionate about it he was. He clearly stated the importance of hitting prior to coming over, and it was on his list of things given to teams to fulfill and would impact his decision. There are literally dozens of articles about it. How his agent made it abundantly clear that he wants to hit. That it’s important he hits. That it was going to impact his decision. How it DID impact his decision. The Angels promised him they would let him hit. If they don’t let him, I guarantee there will be consequences.

Also. Scioscia said he was gonna hit. And I believe he was the one who first mentioned the 300 PA’s that people keep talking about.

But I think the crux of the problem here is so many of you are convinced he can’t actually hit and that NPB pitching just flat out sucks. Which is just ignorant.

They are going to TRY to let him
Hit, that doesn’t mean that if he can’t hit and it doesn’t work out they gotta Have him
                        Hit for 6 years.

The angels can step in anytime and say your to valuable as a pitcher. Hitting Is but working, and your pitching hand is forward in your stance that can be more of a chance at getting injured.

Of cause they will try to see if this works, but by may im predicting it won’t , and the angels will
Be back to 5 man rotstin with injuries as well.

Babe Ruth was one of the best pitchers in baseball. He didn't "give it up", Ed Barrow decided to move him to full-time outfielder.

This thread is full of smoking hot takes.

It'll be interesting to see how they handle 2 way players, but my concern will be that there are like 1000 of them in the first franchise draft class.
