It is a no brainer: including Otani will skyrock the sales of the game in Japan. Worth doing the exception of negotiating individual rights

Not the first time they negotiated with a Japanese player before their MLBPA debut. They did it with Dice-K several years back. Makes a lot of sense marketing wise for Japanese fans/gamers.

Not the first time they've negotiated with a player to be in the game. Dice K was one and Koske Fukudome was the other player.

Companies have always had this option the problem is in most cases guys want way too much money. More money than what companies are willing to pay.

This was one of the reasons Barry Bonds was never in video games late in his career. His MLBPA status was part of it, but his asking price was always high that no one wanted to pay him.

Nice job by SCEA and Ohtani to get into 18 before release. Wonder if he got a scan as well?

I forgot about Koske Fukudome that was a big one with the Cubs, sadly he failed there though.

I hope he has a face scan the issue if if he doesn't we won't be able to edit his face at all. sure we could create our own player but I better the 2 way player thing is locked to Otani only. so he would be locked for us to edit

Well I’m a big Cardinal fan, and since Otani is in the game is it unreasonable for me to expect Miles Mikolas, aka Thr Lizard King to be in as well??😂😂😂

I didn't think he would be in the game at all correct still not confirmed but I am happy to be wrong,

also still not confirmed if he is a 2 way player I might add too. All we have seen is a retro Mode screen shot and a batting stance that has shown up.

They've already used his likeness which means if they don't currently have rights, they would be liable for damages.

From what we know about video games, this means they have the rights to use his likeness.

I don't see why he wouldn't be in the stock roster at release but even if he isn't in that, he will be in the day one roster update. They won't need him to appear in an MLB game as they have with others in the past.

They wouldn't have shown this screen of him today if they didn't have the rights to do so.

I wish this was made possible for all international players then, or players that have played in the MLB before but missed a year because they were in the minors for 1 game rehab (Wheeler last year)

I don't mind Rookies like Torres and Acuna not being in the game until they are called up but it's frustrating seeing Vets or International players who you know will be on the 25 man active roster Day one not in the game.

I think they didn't want him to be a created player so that we could export him and create as many 2 way players as we like. and I also think this unique case for it to be possible in the game is that he has to be a in built player in the game.

perhaps all international players should become 2 way players then they have to make them all a special case to be in the game day one lol

You can be blunt and clear about your opinion all you want but I don't think it's accurate.

Has nothing to do with him being a two way player. This isn't the first time they've negotiated rights with international players before the game is released. It's not like this is a FIRST for the game.

Yes, but for the same reason the minor leaguers aren't added it won't likely happen. They all have to be negotiated with independently from what we're told (as to avoid paying all).

Very costly to go this route so I wouldn't expect it often. There has to be a benefit to the bottom line to justify the cost.


I do wonder why the MiLBPA isn't negotiated with, don't even know whether or not it's possible but that's really a conversation for a different thread/place. I would have to assume it's a cost/benefit thing.
