Re: Shohei Otani in The Show

Just on the stream now they showed the lineups, but didn't scroll down to see if we can put pitchers in them, but I noticed the scroll bar was quite large as though there might be a chance pitchers could be?? I am only speculating though by how large the scroll bar was

I did, but once they player was imported to MLB 18 the secondary positions disappeared. They basically grayed out I believe.

Don't know if you guys noticed but in the 2018 Retro Mode trailer you can see that #17 from the Angels is throwing to Griffey Jr.

If you go back like 2 seconds, it literally says Ohtani.

Now if they could just get the rights to Ronald Acuna and get him in the game from the start ...

He used the wrong word by saying they have to have played one game, but in order to be a part of the MLBPA you have to have been on the MLB roster for a game which each of the above players were (date in red above).

BK pointed to better examples of players that never played nor appeared on an MLB roster yet were still in the game.

                        Now onto something different

It is actually Ohtani not Otani. so IF he is in the game, add another question to it is if they havr spelt his name correctly

                          They're both right.

Re: Shohei Otani in The Show

Fortunately, we now have clarification. Shohei's representatives at CAA Sports confirmed to Greg Joyce of the New York Post that his name is Ohtani, not Otani.

There have been plenty of headlines hyping the two-way baseball player who will soon be posted by the Nippon-Ham Fighters this offseason, but most referred to him as Otani. Now, Ohtani's representatives at CAA have clarified the spelling.

The explanation is simple, according to CAA: That is what Ohtani wears on his jersey in Japan.

Simple enough, right? Ohtani it is. No more Otani. Here, for reference, is a photo of Ohtani playing in Japan:

That part of the article tells me only 1 way is right, that is the one he will wear on his jersey and the only one that matters, it looks like they have it that way from the screenshot anyhow

It tells me that's the one he chose. This part tells me they're both right.

And two, how do you spell his name? That's kinda important. Scour the internet and you'll see both Otani and Ohtani used regularly. And, technically, both are correct. As Daniel Brim of Dodgers Digest explained last year, there is no straight letter-for-letter translation because Shohei's name is a series of Japanese characters. The translation is based on the pronunciation.
Not that it matters, he's going with the H, so it will be Ohtani in the game. As the screenshots have shown.
