I feel bad for those that play online franchise but since I don't, I hope this means there will be more available resources for offline franchise in the future, if online franchise doesn't come back soon. Again, my deepest sympathies for those that do play online.

This is a major disappointment. I may be skipping this year’s game. My buddies and I play Online Franchise all year. It’s the only way we can use custom rosters online.

I couldn't read the entire thread because of some of the negativity. Great, you didn't buy a copy, or you cancelled your pre-order, and as a result, you might be missing out on the best actual online experience in an MLB the Show game to ever exist.

I do not like Diamond Dynasty, I don't even like online modes, I hate playing with people I do not know. Losing Online Franchise sucks, since that's one of the few ways I play with my friend in the game online (not that he's buying it this year, he didn't buy it last year either because of a huge backlog).

But by focusing on infrastructure, SCEA is making it clear their priority is quality, over quantity. They'd rather have one super excellent online mode than 3 mediocre, inefficient, non-upgraded modes. By focusing on infrastructure, for the next edition they can get in Online Franchise (and maybe more), and make it function how it should have (because the last couple years, Online Franchise has basically been a joke).

Hopefully, when Online Franchise comes back, it will be faster (was painfully slow at some points), more imaginative (got boring quickly), and more similar to the actual franchise mode I sink hundreds of hours into every year.

Tough decision for SCEA to make, and it sucks for Online Franchise fans for sure, I feel for you. But I think this was 100% the right move, to move forward with the series, and to get everyone what they want in the shortest amount of time possible. Online Franchise will be back.

Man this news kind of sucks... I play alot a offline franchise, but three of my friends and I always run a season or two online. I was looking forward to it. Hopefully they bring it back next year revamped!

Every single year you guys beg for them to rewrite the entire mode... here’s the chance. Give it time.

Hopefully they do something. But given their history, we have little reason to believe they will deliver. Seems more likely that nothing happens with the mode until the next console is out.

Hey guys I have been apart of the The show franchise "League of Ivy" for two years and with the death of Online Franchise for 18 we were initially bummed out. But this is a time for us as a community to stick together! We want to get a groupchat for online franchise players, like a hub. Any league can join and look for replacements, advertise, etc. Lets help each other out.



So what i'm asking for players who want to continue playing 17 Online franchise! New teams but old game! We can use the death of franchise to show how committed our small but important community can be.

I think the real kick in the pants is these Online Franchise people have been waiting for 3-4 years to get a mode that actually works, then they see a closed alpha test is taking place presumably to improve the online functionality of this game, only for the actual solution being their mode has been totally removed. And 3 weeks before street date. And on top of that, people are telling them to get with the program and that the mode will "definitely" be back, when the track record of this mode in this game engenders anything but faith and good will toward the developers. This is not a fix, or rightly putting a bad mode out of its misery; it's a cop out.

I don't play online, but I think folks have every right to be pretty ticked off about how this whole thing went down. If the mode was so terrible and non-functional, why not cut it back in 2015 or 2016? Why string it along? A better mode perhaps could've been resurrected by now if they hadn't been as content to keep offering the same mode from 2014 until 2017.

I don’t play online franchise but understand why some might be angry. Aside from playing against your friends, what were the benefits to playing online v. offline? Just curious as offline is still available. As I recall, the Madden online was a bust too. Not sure if they fixed it as I don’t watch or play football games anymore.

I don't understand why some people are assuming it's coming back after being removed. They didn't care about the mode for years before it was removed, so, it would seem the opposite would be true - that it's gone without plans to add it back.

They said it was only taken out because they redid all the servers and couldn't rewrite all the codes in time for online franchise. That sounds to me like with more time they can get it done. Not that it's something that can't ever get done. To me that sounds really good for the mode to return next year.

I feel bad for those who bought the game exclusively for the Online Franchise mode. It kind of sucks and I do believe that they should have announced it earlier before taking pre-orders. Hopefully the removal of a perennial feature so close to release is enough to get some refunds if you want them.

I hope it gets added back in bigger and better next year but I honestly won't hold my breath. It is one of the least played modes and the return on investment is probably pretty small in comparison to the other modes.

If it was my, or probably any of our, job to allocate resources with three weeks remaining then I am guessing we would have made the same call.

The games played stats for all modes should be taken with a grain of salt. I wonder if time spent in a mode is tracked?

Franchise mode games take longer to play and more time is spent in menus and stats.

I can knock off 5 or 6 rtts games to every 1 franchise.
