Another factor on why online franchise games are down is that two people have to be on and ready to play at the same time, in addition to having a game on the schedule with that person.

Doubtful, rtts had great strides this past year in features.

We'll agree to disagree on that one. I was not a fan of the changes. The fact that most people could not figure out how to choose their team, the repetitive nature of the cut scenes and the lack of options because you had to wait for your agent to call were not good steps as far a I could see.

Although I think DD will gain on RTTS mainly due to gains in DD. I think it is growing faster than RTTS as they give offline players more of an opportunity to participate.

As a father with two sons who are just getting old enough to be competitive in video games, I had planned to purchase a second PS4, two copies of the MLB The Show 18, and to play on-line franchise with my two boys.  From the earliest days of playing sports video games, the dream was to be able to play a mode like Online Franchise where you and your friends could control teams in the same universe and play out their respective franchises alongside and against one another.  I'm so disappointed to hear this game mode is missing from this year's edition.  PLEASE bring it back in the future for those who see this as their all-time favorite mode.  (Like others who have multiple gamers in one household, I'd be buying  two copies of the game if Online Franchise were available and reliable.)  I hope to see this mode back and better than ever in MLB The Show 19.

These story modes are repetitive and just full of get my player to 99 OVR....every year.

That's tiring. A franchise season has ups and downs and GM responsibilities.

It would be like me complaining to a network that I expected them to treat me better than to cancel my favorite show despite it's low ratings because I have watched every episode since day 1. They don't care.

And franchise players may hate it with a passion but Sony/SDS, if they have loyalty to any customers, will have loyalty to the ones that buy the $100 edition and then spend hundreds more on stubs throughout the year.
C'mon, have a little nuance to this convo. Of course I'm not saying they should adjust to a single players needs/wants and I'm more than aware how business works, no need to talk down to make yourself fell better.

They have been putting a bad product in their own game for 3 years now and have refused to fix it or really even comment on it. I have just always expected better from this development team due to the game being high quality in every other aspect, silly me.

Just to be clear - You should be able to still use offline Franchise mode with more than one user (you and your sons). Each of you can control your own team. I'm assuming you are all living in the same house.....You wouldn't need a second ps4 and second copy of the game to do this.

I feel ya bud. You could always get them '17 and play them. Cheaper too. Then if and when they bring it back, all of you will be experienced. You could wait until the new rosters are updated here or just dive in now? Just a thought.

But they couldn't all play at the same time and have that experience together. I only play with 3 friends and honestly half the fun is playing the CPU and all of us talking about how our games are going.

Having only one person at a time on the franchise would take an eternity to get far.

The Rugnly League game does it updates with a patch all the rosters and uniforms before the season kicks off. that game is usually a 3 to 5 year cycle too
Im pretty sure everyone involved except the MLB thinks it’s a good idea to have longer cycles. The MLB is the one that matters though and the reason why it won’t ever happen under the current method of licensing. Read this https://www.quora.com/How-much-does-...r-a-video-game

You need to release a game every year to make enough money to pay for the licence and the MLB needs those royalties every year as well.

Sport games are clearly following a path of monetization and gambling. The development of a sport game is really cheap cause devs can recycle a lot of assets from previous iterations. They want just more and more and more money. A game like Fifa costs nothing to EA and 90% of the incomings come from Ultimate Team/DD. Don't pretend The Show will be any different. They're focusing on two modes which can provide a lot of money from microtransactions, DD and RTTS. Don't expect big bells on other modes. Vote with your wallet, guys.

You know the simple way to stop Microtransactions??? to actually stop buying them!!

who are the silly people out there doing this?>? I find it crazy and pathetic that somebody actually wastes money on that garbage to save them from grinding,

and for a sports game in a fantasy feature, it is even more of a joke spending money on it

I think you’d be surprised at the mass amount of people who do. Micro transactions in these types of modes are popular because they speed up progression. You can get better cards way faster. That’s the appeal.
