Re: MLB The Show 18 Twitch Stream Starting Now - Franchise Mode
Trust me, it goes both ways. Just look at the number of times disappointed Franchise fans have insulted the other modes and referred to those who play those modes as children/young kids and implied that they are less of a true baseball fan because they don't play franchise modeLast edited by Dolenz; 03-16-2018, 08:12 AM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Twitch Stream Starting Now - Franchise Mode
So maybe I'm misunderstanding what Phases is.
So in regards to Phases, do you understand what salary arbitration is because of it? Phases explains what this is and how to properly use it? Well I should re-phrase...how to use it properly is subjective.
But, does it explain what it actually is?
Also does Phases explain what Designation for Assignment is? Outright Assignments? What about Service Time and how the Rule 5 Draft works?Last edited by extremeskins04; 03-16-2018, 08:12 AM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Twitch Stream Starting Now - Franchise Mode
I think I'm going with OOTP 19 as well (in addition to the Show, I'm still buying it, ha), does anyone try and use OOTP as your trade/FA logic and apply it to a 30 team control franchise on the show?
Ha, sounds like crazy OCD land, but I'm thinking of doing all of the management/trades/FA logic on OOTP and all of the game playing on the show and make moves as best as I can on there (especially considering I generally only get 2 to 3 years out on Franchise tops).
Thoughts?Comment

I actually did this for a while last year but ended up eventually just playing OOTP instead.Comment

For me though, although thats helpful, it doesn't help me plan my budgets and players for the next seasons, even in the off season its still confusing, partly because the budget displays are not helpful at all.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 18 Twitch Stream Starting Now - Franchise Mode
Trade logic (or most roster moves), has got to be some of the most pain in the butt to program where it is sound, and not blurring into the realm of 'scripted'. There are so many variables and nuance to it, and that is one programming job I would not envy.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Understood. I do my best both here and on the 2k forums to stay out of discussions about DD, RTTS, myplayer, myteam, etc . because I"m strictly a franchise player. I just find it frustrating that many of the most prominent posters tend to be so apologetic for SCEA and for several years have said to give them them "the benefit of the doubt" when after several years of many legacy issues they no longer deserve it.Trust me, it goes both ways. I'm not one who usually likes to get in a pi--ing contest with others on these forums (been here for about 12 or 13 years I think) but sometimes we need to let people vent their frustrations when they had hopes that SCEA would do more with the game this year.
I'm still buying and I'll reserve judgement on things like "logic" (which is notoriously hard in any sports game) but I'm also not going to pretend that I'm thrilled with the lack of upgrades to franchise nor the obvious loving care that DD got compared to RTTS or Franchise.Comment

If Phases actually explains what some of those MLB offseason terms and tasks do, then it's a good thing. I didn't get that impression when I watched the stream but maybe I missed it.

I agree about the budget displays.Comment

absolutely. Just look at Stanton being traded. Or going back a few years, Chris Paul from the Hornets in the NBA. You have to meld team performance, budget, and needs with player performance and a million other factors. It's very difficult and every sports game still struggles with FA and trade logic.
I also believe when it comes to FA logic sports games are hampered by the leagues quietly letting them know that they won't allow "bonus points" for prestige franchises or large markets to sign FAs. This results in Oakland signing Altuve and Milwaukee signing LeBron.Comment

Also another point is that, while not all, there are quite a few SPORTS FANS here at OS and we play multiple different games like Madden, FIFA, 2k, etc. So when we get let down with another game's franchise mode (like Madden), then we come here hoping for the best, and get let down again, it starts to get really frustrating.
We're not asking for a complete overhaul either. It's not like we want everything Deuce Douglas posted. We just want a few things added each year if possible, but when you go 3 straight years with nothing it gets very frustrating.Comment

I'd be happy with the legacy issues fixed. That means regression/progression, bullpen issues, retirement issues, minor leaguers hitting free agency when they shouldn't, poor contract implementation (granted MLBPA helps cause this), etc.Good post.

If they came out and nailed the legacy issues at 95% success I'd gladly push things like stadium creator, expanded stats, more minor leaguers, etc. to next year with a smile and a hearty congratulations to the developers.Comment

Funny as I've been mulling over how to get both games close to the same and then having OOTP dictate injuries and off field stuff somehow.I think I'm going with OOTP 19 as well (in addition to the Show, I'm still buying it, ha), does anyone try and use OOTP as your trade/FA logic and apply it to a 30 team control franchise on the show?

Re: MLB The Show 18 Twitch Stream Starting Now - Franchise Mode
I think Trade logic is one aspect that most players, be they Franchise or RTTS players, can agree on.
In this game the Cardinals will trade away every veteran of note within a few years. Wainwright, Molina, Carpenter.
My current cubs pitcher is playing on a team where Freddie Freeman is playing first and Rizzo is riding the bench.
My current Texas player has Rizzo batting behind him. They had Wainwright in the starting rotation for a few years.
Granted, both these runs were started several years ago.
This game, for some teams will trade players that the real team would never consider trading. I remember when the game straight up traded Molina to the Cubs for Miguel Montero.
I realize that trade logic is hard but there should be some logic that says franchise style players are less likely to be traded.Comment

I've been thinking about that too. Atleast doing the trades in OOTP, and then bringing that over to The Show, that way the trade logic is good.Comment
