Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
I'm loving it. In 2020 season. I imported a player in from 2017 and struggled with the braves in 2017 and 2018. Had to try to carry the team as much as possible while Swanson, Albeis, and Acuna developed. Freddie Freeman is an absolute beast. Team made some good pitching moves and added a bat (Miguel Sano) at the break in 2019. Went to and won the World Series in 2019 (beat the Indians) and are currently in a battle with the Nationals in the 2020 season getting close to the All Star Break. I can't stress enough about using the manual save feature to help your team and yourself by controlling the trades, getting the best possible outcome just before the trade deadline, and getting the best possible outcome in the offseason. Acuna, Albeis, and Swanson are all right at a 90 overall and it's been awesome to play with them through the whole thing so far and watch develop. I had to stop thinking about winning the first couple of seasons and just concentrate on player development and best possible outcome to batting/fielding. Hopefully it gets better for you.
Mine was an import, too and we actually made the playoffs in 2020 with an incredible 101-61 record. I won MVP, Silver Slugger, and the Gold Glove for SS in my third year, but we lost to the Dodgers in the NLDS 3-2.
And no more Wade Leblanc. Finally. We picked up Gerrit Cole and he won Cy Young. Finally looking forward to playing this game religiously again.

Awesome.... sounds like the dynasty is off the ground and running.
A good example again of taking your time with the saves and controlling your team moves.... I got to the trade deadline last night in my Braves 2020 season and the first couple times team tried to trade Jose Berrios for players that we didn't need. Swanson, Albeis, Acuna, Sano, Freeman have their positions locked down. I backed up and controlled the outcome and we traded Evan Gattis who was a depth option at catcher for Jake Mcgee who was a much needed improvement for a setup man. Subtle move that helps the stretch run.... we're 3 behind the Nationals.Comment

You can control this by decreasing the trade slider or see these threads....

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
That manual save also works for changing positions. My team wanted me to move to RF. Well I had saved 1 game before that, because I was going to stop playing. Well I decided to play ahead a little just for fun since I knew I wasnt saving it. That is when they wanted me to move to RF. So I accepted and played a game or two and then shut it off. Well when I went the next day to actually play, I was still a third baseman and I went about 20 days and still havent been moved. So I hopefully dodged a bullet. I already have a CFer, I really didnt want another outfield guy.Comment

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
LOL ... I have 5 RTTS players in the works. 2 middle infielders and 3 pitchers.
1) 1st year "Mr Reliable" 2B on the Braves AAA team started in MLB 17.
2) 1st year "Mr Hands" SS on the Giants AA team started in MLB 18.
3) 1st year "Control Freak" SP on the Braves AAA team started in MLB 17.
4) 2nd year "Control Freak" SP on the Padres MLB team started in MLB 17.
5) 2nd year "Plain Dirty" CP on the Pirates MLB Team started in MLB 17.
#4 and #5 are actually the same guy. It's just that #4 was the result when I rejected the Pirates demands that I give up trying to be a starter in their organization and instead become their closer. Then when I rejected the position swap they traded this guy to the Padres. But I kept the Pirates CP save file going to see what happens to his career down the road as a possible starter or as a more experienced closer.Last edited by My993C2; 05-04-2018, 12:32 PM.Comment

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
Start as a RF - Ball Hawk, they'll tell you that your skills are not matching the position and they'll moove you by early May at CF or on some occasion at 2B/SS. Then your new Archetype you pick Mr. Reliable or Solid Option.
You can do the same starting as a 3B - Wizard. They will switch you primarly at SS/2B but also maybe at CF. You then pick a new archetype.
Bottom line, you keep the Speed of your 1st Choice, play a great Defensive position & you can build a 5-tool player.Comment

Each year I get 2 RTTS. One CF and one Middle infielder. With The Show 18 archetype, the best build I found was :

only drawback is your ratings start out lower after switch then if you picked it originally but i dont mind because i like the extra time in minors, i think its more realistic if you spend a couple seasons in minorsComment

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
In my newest save im a SS wizard, they want to move me to 3b. I thought about becoming a field general but due to the fact it seems 3b doesnt get many fielding chances, is it a waste to go to a defensive type player? at the position.Last edited by ingey1968; 05-04-2018, 02:38 PM.Comment

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
I've always liked the idea of staying on the same team for my whole career, that being said what is the odds of the CPU building a team around me/improving the team in general without having to save and go back etc?
Cheers.Comment

I'm not sure they would, I think everyone gets traded at one point, maybe if you were a dominant SP they might do it but I can't see it for any other position.
At this point I would be happy if I got traded, my CP is stuck in middle rotation on the Pirates and for the last year and 3/4 they have stunk, makes it a grind playing for a losing team out of the spot you want to be in.Comment

Either Catcher or SS. I love gunning down runners trying to steal, but with SS, I like making those Jeter-esque plays like jump-throws and diving double play starters. Fielding is really fun this year.

Re: Official MLB 18 : Road to the Show Thread
Honestly, I’ve seen this with my Career. “Good Hands” archetype. Power is maxed out but I have good speed, durability, and arm because it was an import from 17. I’m a SS with Pittsburgh and we were absolute garbage my first two years.
We needed pitching and more power; the front office picked up Gerrit Cole and Greg Bird as a backup 1B. My contract is pretty large so I don’t think we’ll be able to land any marquee free agents (Bryce Harper went to the Rockies, lol), but in offseason negotiations before that free agency, I noticed that they were a bit tighter with money, which I was okay with.
Pittsburgh traded Josh Harrison for Hechevvaria in TB, a move I questioned until I saw his stats. While slower than Harrison, he has better power and is a few years younger.
We went to the playoffs that year. Cole won his Cy Young, we had a good pitching corps outside of relief, and our lineup was solid. I brought home some hardware but we lost in the NLDS.
So...I think the CPU at least tries to build around franchise players, you just have to have good potential and average.
