Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions

I woke up this morning and was lying in bed thinking about the best spot in the lineup for Benintendi now that Pedroia is back at number 2. Made me realise this is the most I have ever been immersed in a sports video game. G.O.A.T. for me!

Complete game shutout by Lance Lynn. I threw 127 pitches with him. Even with him completely out of energy in the 9th, he was able to strike out 2 of the 3 outs to secure the complete game shutout.

One thing I hope they look into for '19 is updating the name database. Some of us like to use carryover saves and unless the name database has been updated with their name, then CAP's of real players get carried over who are now "in the game" but you can't get the game to say their name because it isn't in the database.

Example: Aledmys Diaz on my team is Alexis Diaz...

Also for guys like me who take real players from college/high school/international and add them to the game as my franchise progresses in years, it would be nice to be able to assign players real names, without having to find the best option.

Obviously its not a huge ordeal but for guys like me, it would be a very welcomed addition if the name database was updated with more names of players in today's game and even looking ahead to draft or international player names, and adding those as well.
This. Another funny thing is, a lot of their motions/stances are in the game now, by name.

I tell you what, if you ever doubt that ratings matter in this game. Play with a lower tier team and try a re build. I have started my first ever rebuild with the Padres. Man what a difference from playing with the Nationals all the time. Playing this game has taken on a whole new dimension for me. I mean really a point or two can make a huge difference in a player and a roster. I am so having to pay more attention to the game now and I am seriously falling in love with this game more each day.

Playing with your favorite team its a piece of cake relatively. You are like ok player A is tired, no worries player B can step in. Now I am like ok player A is beat go ahead and put B in...... uh no he has low fielding. If I have to give up A's bat I need more fielding for defense. So lets rest A, put B at G, then move G to C and C to A. There thats good for the first 4 innings. If they switch pitchers before then I'm screwed. Really the difference between 68 and 73 fielding is a game changer, literally.

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions

I've said this in another thread before but I love how this game puts you in pressure filled situations and I choked big time last night in my Rangers franchise.

1st of a 3 game series against the Astros and I had Cole Hamels up against Charlie Morton. Both get through the first couple innings allowing no hits. I ended up getting a run on 3 straight singles in the top of the 4th but that was all I could muster after hitting into a DP to kill the inning.

After cruising through 3 straight and what looks like it's going to be a heck of a pitchers duel.......I walk Altuve to leadoff with Correa up next. I knew Altuve would try and steal or a hit and run would come at some point so I threw over a couple times and a get Correa into a 1-1 count. Next pitch I plan on pitching out and instead I hit the buttons for a slide step and lay one right down the middle for Correa and he takes me deep. They end up getting another run and end the 4th down 3-1.

That one mistake turned the whole game on it's head as Hammels wouldn't make it through the 5th and what looked to be pitchers duel ended up being a 13-7 slugfest in favor of the Astros.

Yeah, but that really isn't a credit to the game. I mean, you hit the wrong input, not chose to do something with a bad outcome being the result.

Correct but I'm talking about the pressure of the situation which the game does an excellent job of replicating.

Cool, but the takeaway I got from it was the unnecessary complexity of performing something within the game that in real life is done with relative ease, making for an undesired situation. This game is filled with lots of them, unfortunately.

Oh FFS!! This isn't real life, it's a video game. There's nothing complex about hitting L1+O or L2+O to decide if you want to pitch out or slide step. I screwed up because I was too focused on the runner.

                      Good answer, lol.

I had one of those today, gave up a dramatic grand slam in the 8th and fell behind 6-4. I yelled out ‘noooooooo’ with my wife sitting there. She chuckled, i laughed out loud because I absolutely love it this year. I’m 20-19 enjoying every game.

                        Franchise only player here.

I’ve played a ton of OOTP this year (by far the best version ever imo) and after playing that the off field stuff in The Show seems so rudimentary that it really stands out. I mean the lack of depth is glaring.

That said on the field, I’m enjoying this game more than I’ve ever enjoyed the game. I absolutely love it and have all my settings really dialed in this year.

So in the end I’m enjoying my Angels franchise with the realization it’s a one season play for me. I don’t see enough depth in playing multiple seasons. In essence I’m enjoying the game in franchise mode despite franchise mode being so minimal if that makes sense.

After I finish my Angels season, I may start a new one with an NL team like the Dbacks or the Rockies.

There’s always one. One guy who can’t accept someone else’s enjoyment of the game and feels it’s his duty to piss all over that persons enjoyment.

Yeah and I’m good with that because on the field it’s so good. I’ll get my franchise building kicks from OOTP.

Cool your jets, chief. He described a situation in an impressions thread that wasn’t complimentary of the game because of a mistake that lead to non realism, but it’s on me for pissing on his enjoyment?
