Frustrating because you can't locate pitches and either walk guys or get knocked around. Gratifying that the game has this in the game.

This happened with me last night in my franchise. Marco Gonzales just didn't have his stuff today and lasted only 4 innings after throwing 97 pitches. He gave up 10 hits, 6 ER, one long ball, and walked 4. He did record 2 strikeouts.
      Amen.

I'm using the Rays (it's as bad as it sounds) and I had Faria going against the Sox and every ball they put wood on was a hit. I gave up 20 hits (between 3 pitchers, Faria gave up 12) and lost big time. On top of that, I can't hit to save my life. 3 hits.

In fact, most of my games are high strikeouts (I K a lot) and low hits. Jus like the Rays. Realism has never been more frustrating and enjoyable.

Answer this question for me, just so that I know we're on the same page here. I'm not trying to be deliberately obtuse here, I just want to clear up a doubt in my mind.

True or False - the rosters used in online rated are different from the ones used in "play a friend" exhibition games.

That would be really strange to me if that were the case since all online head to head games are supposed to use the same roster file (the current live roster, the one you're prompted to download from the main menu).

I'd check for myself if a friend was online to help me check it, but I'm at work right now.

Just had a great come from behind win over the Pirates. Not that I was down a lot of runs (2-0), but we were facing Jose Fernandez who had his best stuff, at least most of the night. Fernandez had allowed only 2 hits and had struck out 12 heading into the bottom of the 8th. After striking out Pham and getting Vogt to foul out, Fernandez hit Marwin Gonzalez to bring the tying run to the plate. I get Randal Grichuk off the bench and on a 2-2 count and Fernandez throwing his 110th pitch of the game, Grichuk belted a homerun that wrapped around the left field foul pole to tie the game at 2.

Jordan Walden and Dean Kiekheffer pitched a perfect 9th and the Pirates go get a lefty out of the pen to face Matt Carpenter in the bottom of the 9th. First pitch Carpenter sees he hammers to right center field for the walk off homerun and a 3-2 victory.

          I love this game.

Just realized I can see if the batter is a push/pull/balanced hitter on the pause menu. I'd been going nuts looking for it and just assumed they took it out of the game for some unknown reason.

Being used to using L1/R1 from the menu screens throughout the game, I've been hitting R1 to tab over to the other screen after I paused so I never hit the right directional button. Accidentally did it today and learned it actually pops up relevant batter and pitcher info.

            I suck.

Don’t get it. 99.9% of the time when the CPU bunts against me it’s a rocket bunt to my first baseman, occasionally to the third baseman. Today with the score tied 2-2 in the 8th my RP gets in a basesloaded jam, gets a K, Matt Kemp comes up and lays down a PERFECT squeeze bunt between my pitcher and 1st base......Matt Kemp. I’ve heard of the over use of the squeeze, but this is the first situation (playing my 20th season game) to see it.....Matt Kemp....and PERFECT when all other CPU bunts have been rockets.

It’s one of those things that is better than it has been in the past but also in serious need of a complete overhaul.

I had a situation where I had loaded bases, one out, up one. Deshields at the plate. Not my first rodeo. I pitch out. Deshields doesn’t square up. Hmmmm ok wow. Next pitch I throw high heat just above the strike zone, he squares, perfect bunt. Base hit, tie game. Next batter. No way I’m falling for that again. First pitch a pitch out. Doesn’t square up. I’m like I got this. Second pitch I pitch out again. Doesn’t square up. Ok well I gotta pitch to this guy. Next pitch a 2 seamer in on the hands. He squares up and lays down a beaut opposite field in between pitcher and first. I’m down a run. I proceed to #%*&$ LOSE IT!!!!!! MY CONTROLLER YARD SALES!! MY CAT IS DIVING UNDER THE BED FOR COVER!!! MY FIVE MONTH OLD BABY STANDS UP, LOOKS AT ME DROPS HIS MILK BOTTLE AND SAYS HIS FIRST WORDS “I’M OUT!!!” HE THEN TAKES HIS VERY FIRST STEPS OUT THE ROOM. I SHATTER MY 4K TV WITH MY BARE HANDS AND THEN FULL MOUNT MY PS4 REIGNING ELBOWS DOWN ON IT UNTIL THE DISK STOPS SPINNING!!!........but I digress. Ya it wasn’t great lol

YA he got hungry and came back. 😜

In all seriousness though I did “over react” just obviously no where near that extent, but it created a massive fight with my wife. True story.

Wife: “why do you play this game if it makes you so mad?”

Me: “like....why can’t you just be more supportive?”

                    Wife: “what do you mean?”

Me: “look.... I love the game but sometimes the game, just....,well, cheats and I want to be mad.”

                    Wife: “that makes no sense”

Me: “you know when you tell me you’re sad when so and so dies in whatever show it is you’re watching? What do I say? I’m sorry hunnie. That’s it. Right there that’s what I want!!! What I’m really thinking is ohhhhh I’m so sorry that the writer of whatever show stopped writing make believe dialogue for the make believe person!! What a crime!!! But I don’t do I?”

Needless to say it escalated from there.

Anyways I’ll stop derailing back on topic.....

                      Damn....

Not only is bunting/squeeze bunting causing people to lose games, it's now breaking up marriages.

Come on SDS we need a patch ASAP!

Here's why I love this game. I play on dynamic for hitting/pitching and have reached HOF level for both. I am in late July and had lost six of eight games and got frustrated so I took a few days off.

Come back today and win 4 straight against the Cards including an exciting 2-1 win in the last game. Pitching dominated with both teams with 1 hit through 6 innings. Bottom 7th newly acquired SS Brandon Crawford sneaks a HR inside the RF foul pole for 1-0 lead. Cards tie in the 8th and then Bottom 9th I load bases on 3 straight walks with 1 out. I foul off several pitches then finally put the ball in play with a slow chopper to SS. No way he was going to turn 2 but he bobbles it anyway and the Mets walk off!...

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions

For the 2nd time in 3 games I came from behind to win, this time it was a 2 run 9th to tie the Nationals at 2 and then we scored in the bottom of the 10th for the win.

Nationals got Shawn O'Malley to close out the game but after Carpenter led off with a single in the 9th, Grichuk struck out and then Patrick Wisdom hit a slicer down the right field line that got into the corner allowing Carpenter to score from first and Wisdom to get a one out triple. Next batter, Paul DeJong, hits a sac fly to tie the game at 2. Stephen Vogt struck out to end the threat.

After Rosenthal pitched a 1-2-3 10th inning, Kolten Wong delivers a slicing ball down the left field line that gets into the corner allowing him to have a lead off triple in the 10th. Marwin Gonzalez comes off the bench and hits what I thought was going to be a 2 run homerun, but it was caught by Billy Hamilton on the warning track, but easily bringing in Wong for the walk off 3-2 win.

HOF pitching is the way to go this year, take my word for it, the cpu uses there full arsenal and makes you work...the presentation is just more fluid this year so I think that's why people say the game is faster, its alot more going on in between plays so you don't have the sense of empty dead space if that makes sense lol. Everything just flows better this year.
