All those players that retired early must be fans in the stands. Used to they could catch nothing now they don't miss

Sometimes a pitcher is just on, and that was the case for Tyler Lyons in my last game. After Marco Gonzales was only able to last 4 innings due to pitch count, Tyler came on for 4 innings of relief striking out 7 of the 12 batters he faced. Absolutely helped us out by allowing a tired bullpen to rest as we only had to use Rosenthal in the 9th to close out the win.

I love baseball and The Show '18 does baseball far better than any of its predecessors.

Next pitch I throw high heat just above the strike zone, he squares, perfect bunt. Base hit, tie game. Next batter. No way I’m falling for that again. First pitch a pitch out. Doesn’t square up. I’m like I got this. Second pitch I pitch out again. Doesn’t square up. Ok well I gotta pitch to this guy. Next pitch a 2 seamer in on the hands. He squares up and lays down a beaut opposite field in between pitcher and first. I’m down a run. I proceed to #%*&$ LOSE IT!!!!!! MY CONTROLLER YARD SALES!! MY CAT IS DIVING UNDER THE BED FOR COVER!!! MY FIVE MONTH OLD BABY STANDS UP, LOOKS AT ME DROPS HIS MILK BOTTLE AND SAYS HIS FIRST WORDS “I’M OUT!!!” HE THEN TAKES HIS VERY FIRST STEPS OUT THE ROOM. I SHATTER MY 4K TV WITH MY BARE HANDS AND THEN FULL MOUNT MY PS4 REIGNING ELBOWS DOWN ON IT UNTIL THE DISK STOPS SPINNING!!!........but I digress. Ya it wasn’t great lol

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions

Defense ratings lost me a game last night. Devon Travis got hurt (shocking) so I put Lourdes Gurriell in who is rated 52 on defense. Runner on first 1 out and the cpu hits a firm grounder to second for a routine double play and the win. Gurriell bobles it so I have to go to first for the single out. Next batter base hit for the win. Although I lost I liked how it went down.

Next game first inning 2 outs and there is an infield fly to second and Gurriell drops it scoring a run and sparking a 5 run 2 out rally that I couldn’t bounce back from. Got me really thinking about my defense. I love that about this game.

All in all after a hot start I’ve slumped and lost 7 of my last 10 but I’m still 25-20 tied for second in the AL East but it’s gonna be tough with all 5 teams in the division over .500. I just had a walk off single Pillar driving in Vlady Jr which hopefully can turn the ship around.

I thought I wouldn’t get as much out of the game this year pre release if I’m being honest but I just can’t stop playing and when I’m not playing I’m thinking about it. The Jays have some exciting prospects and I dealt Donaldson for a couple more. I’m so invested in my team that I think this might be the start of the first time I actually use year to year saves.

I agree countryboy. MLB18 is so much better. I don't think I played 2 hours of 17 while I've been putting tons of hours with 18. SDS got the gameplay right this year. I've been seeing hits and bloopers hits that I actually see in real MLB games. I have the MLB.tv package and practically watch most of the the games! IMO, this is the best MLB The Show. Having lots of fun for sure! I can't put it down!..I keep coming back for more.

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions

Just finished a game where we had to work out of a jam to get the win. Wacha dominated for 7 innings but was removed heading to the 8th as he was at 95 pitches. We were up 2-0.

So I go get John Brebbia up to work the 8th. First batter is Arismendy Alcantara whom Brebbia hits on a 1-2 pitch. Tried to go inside with fastball so that I could try to get him out soft and away, but I hit him. Next batter is Wilson Contreras who pulls an outside fastball and has a swinging bunt that allows men on first and second with no one out. Next up is Bo Bichette who is pinch hitting and he hits what could be a double play ball to Paul DeJong who boots it thus loading the bases with no outs. Next up is Jason Heyward so I get Sam Freeman. Freeman gets Heyward to pop out in foul territory on the 3rd base side. Bases loaded with one out. Next up is Kris Bryant. I get Danny Farqhuar up to face Bryant. He strikes out Bryant to make it 2 outs with bases loaded and Anthony Rizzo coming up. I get Dean Kiekhefer (lefty) to face Rizzo and after a 9 pitch at-bat he gets Rizzo to ground out to Wong to end the inning.

Bottom of the 9th, Schwarber leads off. Kiekhefer facing him and Schwarber hits a slow grounder up the middle that Wong has a 95% chance of fielding getting Schwarber out, but Kiekhefer tries to field the ball and knocks it down, but it rolls away to no mans land between mound and first base. 1 on with no outs in a 2-0 ballgame. Next up is Addison Russell, so I get Jordan Walden (Rosenthal needed day off). Walden gets Russell to fly out to center. Next up Javier Baez, Walden gets him to strike out. Arismendy Alcantara is next up and Walden gets him to fly out to Piscotty to end the game.

A definite nail biter, and I thought we were going to blow it in the 8th, but we settled down, made the pitches and got the outs.

              I love baseball.

The dynamics, ebb’s and flows of baseball season are unlike any other sport. Sonny Gray who got absolutely rocked in his 3rd start of the season in NY vs Toronto (2.1 8ER) came back on the road vs The Halo’s. He went 7 innings 3H 5K’s 0 ER.

This game really shines. Can’t stop playing.

                  Agreed A&S.

MLB '18 plays a truly amazing game of baseball. Yes there are shortcomings, yes there were questionable design decisions, and yes there are things we all desire as a community to be added to the game. But on the diamond, this game is truly remarkable. I can't definitively say that it is/will be sports game of the year, because its the only current gen sports game I play. But what I can say definitively is that MLB '18 captures the sport of baseball better than any prior baseball video game.

I know its become commonplace these days to focus on what a game gets wrong more so than what it gets right, but I'll be damned if this game doesn't get a whole lot right.

Years ago they had the motto: "MLB The Show, nothing gets you closer." I'm not sure if they still use that motto, but if they don't, with '18, they should definitely bring it back.

Loving this years presentation. Batter strikes out on a horrible contorted swing and appears to be laughing at himself as he walks out of the batters box.

enjoying the game thus far. are you guys noticing the BATTER VS PITCHER career overlay remaining static?

I've noticed Randall Grichuk is still career 0-2 [which was his real life numbers coming into the Show 18] vs Chapman even tho i faced him in all three games this series.

I honestly haven't even seen this overlay now that I think about it.

Wonder if its due to me using a carryover save/franchise?

After swimming ahead and doing some testing its updating actually. Announcer version anyways.

The ticker one shows up a bit less than the announcer announcing it.

Possibly could be the carryover save. I am starting fresh on mine.
