Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions

Two weeks in and still completely hooked on this game. Seeing new hit types, player emotions/celebrations, replay angles and hearing new commentary lines. I'll blow out the CPU one game and then the next I'm struggling to string together more than 3 hits.

Thanks for putting together a great game, SDS crew!

Anyone else playing 'Dynamic Difficulty'? In the past I've tried it but switched after a while but this season I'm sticking with it and after reading a tip about turning the speed with which it changes up/down I'm having some really good competitive games. My question is what happens when it finally settles down at a particular level that suits me? Should I just turn the slider right down so it sits at that difficulty level? Or let it continue to move around but at a slower pace?

Really enjoying the game and, thankfully, haven't run into any real bugs at all. My only annoyance so far is hearing about "ambush tactics" nonstop from "DeRo."

Re: MLB The Show 18 First Impressions

Something that I noticed last night that I got to actually see first hand was how much of an impact the directional hitting rewards/penalties make a difference. Sixth inning, JD Martinez has a 3-1 count, and I decide to press the L-stick to the 10pm position, and try to Power-Swing and influence a lifted ball to the pull side.

JD juuuuuuust gets under it, and it is a pop up to short left field that takes forever to come down. I could tell in the swing analysis that even though the timing was "good" the zoi (zone of influence, ala PCI had shrunken down to such a small area, JD just got under it, and it was a pop fly.

Fast forward to the 9th, and he has a man on in a 3-0 count, I decide to just use regular swing, and influence the L-stick again to ten o'clock. JD goes big fly party time to the tune of 465 feet, and he ices the game with two big insurance runs.

I am convinced that if I had used the Power Swing, that PCI would shrink enough to really require a perfect location, and he has enough power to get the ball way out of The Fens with his normal swing.

Kudos to SDS for making a risk/reward system that makes sense, but doesn't penalize with no discrimination, as in previous years.

This game just feels so right. I love the legend teams. Just a real nice balance of different eras.

I hope I get better at hitting, because the only way I can get any type of success with hitting is on Veteran. If I bump it up to All-Star, it's not pretty. I might get 4-5 hits a game, and every run I score is from a solo homerun.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

I max out fastball and offspeed pitches. Even before they gave you both options. I've always maxed out pitch speed. Feels realistic to me. And default is just too slow for my liking.

I love the variety I'm getting in games.

As much as I love the series, a few years ago just about every game I played was 3-2 or 2-1. Five runs felt like an offensive outburst.

But this year, I started 7-0 in my franchise; scoring 52 runs in those seven games. I won a game 9-8. I won 12-4. I won 3-2.

I've now lost three straight; losing 12-2, 11-1 and 7-3. The variety has been sensational for me so far.

I swear they adjusted the difficulty. I used to play on legend. Now I'm on Dynamic and I'm staying consistent on All Star.

Usually I mash on all star. First game against Toronto as the Yankees. I smash them 8-2. Seemed way too easy. But I decided to stick on all star. I ended up splitting a four game set. And I got a variety of scores. Such a great balance

I rented the game from redbox. The ability to tag a runner out is the biggest improvement to the game play. The hitting sort of reminds me of the alpha, a lot of pop ups and weak grounders. Online play is a breaking pitch fest because of the low speed pitching.

The game feels too dumbed down in the current state. It lacks the adrenaline of previous versions. I wish 17 had the tag the runner out fix. I have been spoiled by the fix to that in 18. I may get the game at a later date if the developers balance the game play out to be less casual.

I prefer to keep the slider maxed at 10. I like that if I get on a hot streak with every batter, it will end pretty quickly. If I go in a slump with every batter, that won't last either. It's an emotional rollercoaster. The highs and lows ebb and flow. I have no idea if I'm going to go 79-83 or bring home the Commissioner's Trophy.

I have been using it too this year, and I may try doing what you did with maxing it.
