Re: MLB 18 The Show Trade Discussion
So here is my situation. My Texas team blew minds and led the division by 5 games at the trade deadline last year so I made moves for Brandon Drury, Randal Grichuk and Chris Archer. The team faltered in the second half and finished two games behind the Astros in the Division and a single game behind the Wildcard winners. Beltre has decided to stick around another year so I've given him a loyalty contract despite a big stat drop-off. He'll likely DH most of the season. I acquired Freddy Galvis out of Free Agency and will likely move either him or Andrus to Third Base. Gallo will stay at 1st where he was a Gold-Glove candidate.
I feel like I have to commit to trying to win now (despite LAD getting Harper and Keuchel in FA so good luck). This leaves me with a couple of depth issues that I'm hoping to turn into a decent SP acquisition. I'm looking at Luis Castillo of the Reds. This is the 2018 Off-Season and he posted a season similar to his 2017 IRL Season. The Reds finished near the bottom of the league again. I'm expecting him to be pricey but I can't quite gauge his value given he isn't a prospect but he only has one year to work off of. I'm looking at something like this:
TEX REC: Luis Castillo | Michael Lorenzen
CIN REC: Ariel Jurado | Ronald Guzman | Willie Calhoun | Kyle Cody | Top 50 2018 Draft Selection OF
Am I close or far here?Comment

Re: MLB 18 The Show Trade Discussion
I'd have to make a few more moves for them if I did this, but that's not really a problem. Not even sure I'm gonna do it, but if I decide to I wanted it worked out already.
Also what's Clint Frazier's Value at? Would it be possible to ship him to Detroit for Iglesias and Faedo or Manning?

Re: MLB 18 The Show Trade Discussion
4.5 x 6
6.3 x 3
2.6 x 1
For a 4.85 average. And he only makes $9 million in 2018. So 4.85 x 9 = $43.65 - $9 = $34.65

Re: MLB 18 The Show Trade Discussion
Belt is worth like $60 million in surplus. Why so eager to sell him below value?

I am the instigator of the deal, the motivated seller, so it seems right that I should get the short end of the stick if that makes sense?Comment

Re: MLB 18 The Show Trade Discussion
Basic math using only Castillo's Rookie Season says that Castillo has a surplus of around 125M (assuming he gets expected arbitrations and etc.) Is what I'm offering enough? This gives a First Baseman upon Votto's retirement, a Top 50 LF/2B option in Calhoun, two young MLB Ready arms in Jurado and Guzman and then an Outfielder I drafted in 2018 with A Potential, 68 Overall and only 20 years old.

Re: MLB 18 The Show Trade Discussion
I'm looking for a right handed reliever. I already have Freeman and Minter as lefties coming out of the pen, and while they aren't close to Britton's level, they've been good enough for me. I might even convert Gohara to bullpen once I get Teheran back from injury and my younger guys start breaking into the bigs.Comment

Re: MLB 18 The Show Trade Discussion
Just my opinion, but when a player with that much surplus is involved the headliner needs to be around a top-20 prospect in baseball. Calhoun is a phenomenal hitter but he's a DH only. I don't think Texas has the farm at the moment to entice the Reds out of 6 seasons of Castillo

What do you think of Berrios in MIN? I'm conflicted as he's a young promising arm that I doubt MIN would be excited to deal away. However, they were competing at the deadline last year and acquired Realmuto, so I don't think they're happy with having no quality First Baseman or DH. Does it make sense if I do this?
MIN REC: Guzman | Calhoun | Minor | Jurado | Palumbo | Herrera
TEX REC: Berrios | StewartComment

Re: MLB 18 The Show Trade Discussion
I think you're probably right, I knew Castillo was good but I wouldn't have guessed he was worth that much. I'm in a bit of a tough spot right now. Realistically the way that I'm set up, I don't have spots for Guzman or Calhoun. It makes the most sense for me to deal for an arm but Calhoun limits me to AL teams if he's only prospected as a DH.

Calhoun was moved for 3 months of Yu. I have a hard time believing the Twins will give you 6 years if Berrios for the same

Personally, I think Guzman is a significant upgrade over Diaz. He's excellent defensively. For the sake of clarification, in my Franchise, Guzman is 24 with a 77OVR (B Pot) while Diaz is 22 with a 63OVR (B POT) and at least two-three years away. Right now Vargas prospects as the starting first baseman for Min.
We're probably right then. I mean I'm stuck. Any ideas? I need to rectify this log-jam and acquire a pitcher (preferably right-handed) in doing so. If Calhoun has to DH, that means I'm restricted to AL Teams. Removing Division Opponents, that leaves me with 10 Teams. Removing Minnesota from that equation, I'm left with 9 teams. I'm thinking I'm left with these options:
KC - Jake Junis
DET - Vince Velasquez (acquired from PHI in Fulmer Deal)
CLE - Trevor Bauer (Don't think they would downgrade to Minor even with prospect additions)
TOR - Aaron Sanchez/Marcus StromanComment

Thoughts/Approval/Disapproval on these deals?
TEX REC: Jake Junis | Corey Ray
KC REC: Willie Calhoun | Mike Minor | Ariel Jurado | Joe Palumbo
BAL REC: Yasiel Puig | Tim Locastro | Lottery
LAD REC: Jonathan Schoop
In my Franchise it is the Off-Season after the 2018 season and Los Angeles is going all in. They've signed Harper and Keuchel. They opted not to resign Forsythe. Baltimore finished near the bottom of their division and already dealt Machado to St. Louis at the deadline. Puig doesn't have a spot anymore with the signing of Harper and I think Baltimore could see a lot of value there both in the field and at DH. Locastro fills the need at 2B that they lose in Schoop. Los Angeles throws in an additional Lottery player to finish this deal off.Comment
