Re: MLB The Show 19 Twitch Stream Schedule Revealed

I've felt for the last few years SDS has been spinning its wheels with The Show and the trailer and twitch schedule doesn't change any of that for me. I want to love this game and series again but it may be another year of waiting until June/July for a sale. I have used OOTP for a franchise fix and RBI Baseball looks like a likely purchase Day 1 for my Switch.

Marketing "contract extensions" as the big franchise mode update is almost as big of a slap in the face as last year's "we changed the UI!" stream. I get that DD and RTTS are the biggest modes but NHL (which is a much smaller team I think) managed to work in a revamped scouting system for NHL19 after unveiling expansion mode in NHL18.

I'm holding out hope the gameplay improvements really look excellent but the trailer could have been an MLB18 trailer and I wouldn't have been able to tell.

I see this is directed at me. And I have said this in the past in regards to people's wishes on the mode. I'm not just saying it now. Baseball has the least in season extensions of any sport. Especially if a player is about to hit the market. They didnt wait 6+ years to sign an in season extension in June.

Actually it wasn’t directed at you or anyone. It was just an observation

I have to believe that SDS made more improvements other than just contract extensions.

If you believe that they added other things than contract extensions to franchise mode you are delusional.

Even if they only have 1 guy working on this mode , this is very lazy.

There may be some nice additions to rtts but I'll probably skip another year.

This is a vicious circle, they don't work on franchise mode because its getting less played every year and it's less played because they stopped improving it. Plus, obviously, there is this DD cash cow that is changing their focus.

I still think franchise mode will eventually be completely scapped in favor of micro-transaction centric modes.

I think its more likely that they'll eventually find a way to try to get microtransactions into Franchise. Maybe purchasing extra scouts or something. Or buying a higher team budget. Who knows. Microtransactions drive video game revenue these days. In RTSS you used to be able to just pay to make your player progress faster. Last year they removed that, but because of archetype level caps, in order to get past a cap, you needed equipment. How do you get the equipment? Buy loot boxes. Oops, I mean card packs.

I'd be surprised if there isn't some type of microtransaction that makes franchise easier some day. Maybe they will finally bring back the franchise stream when that happens to announce the new loot box feature!

Count me in on this feeling as well. I'm perfectly content playing 18 for several more years if something "real" isn't done to/for franchise.

Once the weather gets warmer I have other hobbies I enjoy so I play The Show less then than I do in the winter months. So if they don't give me a reason to buy it this year I will just wait. Maybe buy it next March just to continue my carryover if they improve franchise in 2020.

I'm still holding out hope however. But for the first time in 12 years I haven't pre-ordered it yet.

Nothing not obvious to point out here, but no Graphics or Little Things streams either. Not even in the subheadings. I know they'll always add little things especially in the celebrations and different cut scenes, but it not being a highlight definitely shows that there were shifted priorities this time around (perhaps even for the better, given the possible gameplay changes we will be seeing soon).

This is part of the problem, though. Despite the fact that we are playing franchise, they're just saying: "Yeeah, but not as much as people are playing Diamond Dynasty."

I'm almost having the exact same thematic conversation about how some MLB rule changes will make them lose some of their original fanbase, so I guess it's a matter of how much they care about that or not.

If you are a coach responsible for player talent/development, you also have this debate with yourself at times: "Should I focus on improving each player's strength, or their weakness?" Of course it depends and it can always be: "Why not both?" but in this case I'm wondering if anything significant would happen to sales if they actually didn't touch DD at all. Wouldn't people still buy the game and buy stubs? I'm not sure, really. Just curious about that.

They will lose devotees from their offline fanbase though, however sparse that actually may be. The only thing that's having me hold on by a thread with year-to-year purchases is the franchise carry-over feature, and even then it's a hassle to have to re-edit players who leave the MLBPA (not their fault, I get it) and edit all music over again. Yet still, it will keep me purchasing... I think. If they integrate offline with online too much or cause more limitations/don't upgrade the game enough to warrant a purchase, then I really don't know.

I'm honestly just completely tired of how shoddy their grass and fields look. It's like it never left the PS3 at points. The shading for cuts on the field just looks bizarre. That is not how a field looks like in real life. You would think after ten years on the job someone would actually realize this in their game. I swear I think 2K baseball had better colors in some places.

But because I love 18 so much and am content with it (meaning I love it so much I can play it another year even 2 years easily) I am truly in the wait and see mode.

So simply put, I need to see real core reasons on the streams why 19 is a must upgrade.

I only primarily play Franchise mode.

If no real reason i will happily stick with 18.

After a few months the price will drop (fairly quickly in the Netherlands) and i can always pick it up when it's around 19,99 and do a carryover of my current franchise.

That is where I always give them the benefit of the doubt. And while last cycle people were let down, not impressed or downright furious, I felt they made some really good “under the hood” improvements to franchise mode and despite unpopular opinion I really liked the new “reskin” of the Franchise hub. Was it perfect? No absolutely not. In fact it can be so much more with a news center, upcoming matchups and recap scores around the league (which was removed...why?).

Improve the radio show which I really enjoy. It can be so much more.

So yeah...I hope and expect more than just “contract extensions” to be the only upgrade to franchise mode.

                              Let’s bring on the streams!

Hoping to hear them address changeups on the 14th.

At this point, it makes no sense to have changeups slower than they should be across the board. McCuller's 90mph change is not replicated, deGrom's 87-89mph filth is not replicated as it should be..

Not sure why the FB:CH speed ratio is hard coded around a 10mph difference (and created players & RTTS players are locked in at 84mph regardless of repertoire) but I mean...it's starting to feel like some weird inside joke.

I wanna hear about & see the 6-8mph diff vs fastballs for changeups.
