Now, what I DID like, and may end up being excited about, was personalities and relationships.* It sounds pointless, but one thing that a lot of career modes get wrong, is neglecting to engage the user on an emotional level.* NHL, for instance, is horrible at this:* I don't even care about my OWN character as character, and never MIND the wallpaper that fills out the dramatis personae.* F1, by contrast, does a lot of subtle things that get you to genuinely care about your teammate:* my main is with Sauber, and the first time he and Charles LeClerc both ended up on the same podium, I actually got misty-eyed.* There was a genuine sense there of "We did it!", which is a much bigger emotional payoff than just "Yay, I won."* So SDS is apparently going for a bit of world-building, and trying to expand the dramatic cast.* Sight unseen, I like that they're trying; we'll see what the details look like in a couple of weeks.
On balance, this looks promising, at least for RTTS.
They are not removing Archetypes. Why? Well the tiny conspiracy theory voice in me says that it is because you now need to go into DD and buy Equipment if you want to go beyond the ratings caps imposed by the archetypes.

And hey, they removed micro transactions from RTTS but feel free while you are shopping for all of that diamond equipment in DD to buy some extra stubs.

I actually like the RTTS Archetypes and hope they don't remove them. But I am also not a RTTS player who thinks I should be able to put up HoF stats in their rookie season. But yeah I can see SDS motivation now is to get folks to buy stubs to then turn around a buy equipment and yes I am one of those sorry sacks who did this last year.

But for some of us it brings realism into the mode at the expense of fun. RTTS has always been the single player arcade mode of the game for me. There are so many things they have added recently that removed that fun factor

          1. I am no longer able to be a high round draft pick if I go that route.
          2. I can no longer choose a team and play among my favorite players
          3. I can no longer choose what I train with my points and in what order
          4. I have caps to deal with
          5. The only way to go beyond caps is equipment from DD
          6. The team forcing a position change on you just because it is part of a script.
          7. Having to sit through the same exact coach interactions over and over

If I want realism them I would probably create a player in Franchise and simply player lock them.

How about and option when you start a new Career of RTTS or RTTS Classic. This year I actually went back to 17 to play RTTS

Yeah I understand playing something for fun versus pure realism. But also adding back in all that old code for how it was 16 and older would be a poor choice of resource commitment. Then again I am a self interested man and have biases.

I wasn't condemning anyone for their opinion just thought it was funny how the community shifted from one side of the spectrum to the other in terms of contract extensions, for whatever reasons that may be.

Perhaps I should've used instead of to convey the tone of the post.
Again, the reason the community is upset isn't because contract extensions are in, it's because they're the only known changes to franchise. SDS is literally marketing contract extensions as the only franchise improvements. I don't think the community has shifted, we're just disappointed in the lack of improvements.

I've said this before, but I think it's become very clear at this point that SDS simply doesn't care (and yes, I know that's harsh) what the franchise people want. They know their main demographic plays DD so their focus is on DD. I'm even willing to go as far as to say I don't think the additional revenue stream is why they do it, it's because according to their telemetry, the large majority play DD and if they don't continue to improve it, they will lose that larger demographic.

This is the chicken and the egg and I'm honestly getting sick of hearing SDS say no one plays franchise. They pushed people away from franchise by not making any major updates to it. Then, when people stopped playing it because of the lack of updates, SDS said no one plays it so we're not going to update it. People would play it if updates were made to it but they're not. It's simply an excuse to push people to DD. It is what it is.

To me point #1 is not a big deal.

Point #2 is annoying for sure.

With point #3 we don't have the same control with training our players like MLB 17 (and early) RTTS modes had, but you still have some say in how your players training progresses.

I am fine with CAPs regarding Point #4 now that I know how they work.

Regarding equipment in point #5, I don't really see how this is an issue. Diamond gear is ridiculously expensive, but Gold gear is somewhat affordable and the performance difference between Diamond and Gold gear is likely not worth the added costs.

Point #6 is annoying for sure.

                  Point #7 is also annoying.

And if you are someone who is livid about franchise, but just cant give up playing a baseball game, I suggest either trying ootp or if no interest in a text sim, buy The show used. Dont give the developers money if they refuse to improve their product. I literally hate used games bc of how it affects developers, but I hate being asked to buy a game with no real improvements even more, and the fact that franchise players have been sold out with little option to turn to make this quite difficult.

It was a simplified version of Franchise where you didn't have minor leagues and you could customize certain aspects like number of games per season.

I have always given SDS the benefit of the doubt because for me personally I have never been let down by the overall quality of this game.

But because I love 18 so much and am content with it (meaning I love it so much I can play it another year even 2 years easily) I am truly in the wait and see mode.

So simply put, I need to see real core reasons on the streams why 19 is a must upgrade.

I only primarily play Franchise mode.

Right there with you, I love the Show, but if literally the only thing that is updated in Franchise is the ability to extend a player during the season (which doesn't happen that often to begin with, and what about....oh.......adding cash to a trade, trade logic in general, FA logic, team building, or any of the other issues with Franchise) then I'm going to sit this year out.

I am more inclined to feel this way as well as I am overall very happy with '18.

My only real gripes with '18 are mainly with RTTS, which I have been playing less and less of. I like the new system of what you do on the field dictating the points you get and where they go. I don't even mind the CAP system for slowing growth a good bit. But I really don't like being stifled into a perpetual middle of the road player who constantly struggles to over achieve for greatness. Now I get where they were going with this and its fine overall I get it, this is how baseball works for the majority of those that play it in real life. But this isn't real life. I play games for escape from my own mediocrity in life and simple entertainment. NO KID grows up dreaming that he is going to be the bench utility player for the Minnesota Twins. I played RTTS to be Tony Gwynn, to break the HR record, to be Cal Ripkin JR. If I want to play a baseball game of mediocrity I will go down to the county field and play pick up with the rest of the old farts and go drink some beer afterwards.

So what I am saying is, for me, keep everything the way it is if you want. But let us be the stars we dreamed of being as kids.

For the rest of the game, I truly believe we all want the same thing. So lets quit the asinine childish bickering and act like a community. We all want a better, deeper more polished franchise mode. Every single person on this forum has issues with the game. From my dear friend Countryboy to Armor to PAD we all have complaints and wants for this game. Its just that every person has a different idea of what those are and how it needs to happen AND how to express those like and dislikes for this process.

For right now? I am cautiously optimistic. I have bought this game for over a decade and played played the hell out of it. But I am less excited this year than I have ever been.

I truly do love '18 except for what I outlined above and could be very happy with it being the last baseball game I buy for a good while. So unless something changes in the next month or so of streams and upcoming information I am in a holding pattern for now. I may wait for reviews from Countryboy who loves this game like no other on here, Armor who understands the insides of this game like few others and PAD who is a egotistical a$$ but I do love him and consider him a friend, he will never be shy about what he feels is wrong with the world of MLB The Show and right or wrong he should be respected for standing his ground.

OK. I am done. This is the most I have said on here in a good while. Now I am going back to finish year 4 of my Padres Franchise just in case I end up getting '19 sooner than planned.

                                Peace my friends
