Expanded rosters (more than 90), improved trading logic, free agent signing logic, player morale improvements, more stats, presentation changes, player progression/regression, training, etc....
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I'll reserve my full judgement until the actual stream, but it doesn't look good, and it's definitely not enough for me shell out $60+ on launch. SDS has really taken a sharp turn into EA territory.
I'm not sure EA is a fair comparison. Madden has put more improvements into their Franchise mode this past generation than SDS has. Not saying Madden has a good Franchise mode, it still takes a backseat to MUT, but the Show has been the same stagnant Franchise mode since the PS3 generation. They have literally made nothing but cosmetic changes to Franchise for the entirety of the PS4 gen.

I highly doubt that franchise players are a significant proportion of those who buy the game. Not by a long shot. It is a significant proportion of Operation Sports players but when you venture beyond the scope of this forum and go to the official forums or reddit then you will see very little discussion of franchise.

Of course all we have to go on were statements by SDS over the years in the streams that RTTS was the most played mode followed by DD. They have all of the data while we can only speculate though. I am sure that they are very aware of how many play each mode and what % of those who purchase the game actually venture into the various modes.

It's somewhat of a self fulfilling prophecy. They put no resources into Franchise, don't change it much for a decade, throw all their dev costs into their predatory gambling mode, then say no one wants to play Franchise. There aren't many people clammoring to play most PS3 era games, because games get better. Improve franchise and maybe people will want to play it? You don't see NBA2K hurting for people to play their franchise mode.

I am kind of curious how they are going to diversify the fielders more when it does not look like they added any fielding attributes. I am guessing this is all under the hood adjustments. I just don't feel that a global rating is enough to create the diveristy on the field when trying to emulate the actual player.

I remember a time when video games were meant to be fun. Not become a legitimate addiction tricking people into spending thousands of dollars on things that have no actual worth.

Just because it makes SDS money, and every other developer/publisher that embraces these predatory modes, doesn't make them right.

Are there those who have a gambling problem who partake in this mode? Absolutely. But that fact that you write the entire mode off as a gambling mode shows a lack of knowledge. There are plenty of players, myself being one, who have enjoyed the mode quite a bit without ever spending a penny beyond the purchase price of the game.

I understand not liking one mode of the game but to write off everyone who may enjoy that mode as a degenerate gambler isn't going to win an argument.

Looking through the MLB Network personalities list, could the new person on the commentary team be

                        Peter Gammons?

If I gave that impression, I apologize. Not everyone who plays these modes spend tons of money on them. I totally acknowledge that. But the reason that these modes are popular amongst devs and publishers is that there is a percentage of people that do play them who have a legit problem and spend a fortune on them. These modes make them way more money than they'd make just selling the game. So while there are many that don't spend anything extra and enjoy these modes, that's not who these modes are being built for. They are being built to make money. They are predatory. Just not everyone falls into the trap of spending tons of money. But they don't need everyone to. Just some people.

I wasn't trying to pass judgement on the people that play this mode, I understand that it can be enjoyable for many people. It's not about the people that play these modes. Its about how these modes are monetized. That's on the company, not the consumer.

I have a feeling that you never played DD or haven't played it enough to really make a judgement about it. DD is barely focused on packs. You get better cards through programs (that you earned through doing things in the game) than you do in packs. You could not get a single immortal (the highest rated player) by pulling him in a pack.

Also, as much as you guys might love Franchise, Road to The Show was always a much more popular mode even before Diamond Dynasty existed.

I've tried DD (and MUT in Madden). The modes don't interest me much, but to each their own. I have tried playing them though. I understand you can play them without ever buying anything. That's pretty much every other F2P games model. Yes, you don't need to buy anything. I get it. However, this model is still INSANELY lucrative. Which means people are buying things. In droves. So while they may not shove purchasing card packs down your throat, there is a percentage of players who are buying them to the point where that's how the game makes the bulk of its money.
