Re: MLB The Show 19 Twitch Stream Schedule Revealed

Between the trailer and Twitch schedule, I'm thinking the new "Moments" mode could be playing out historical scenarios to earn rewards. In the trailer, we see Griffey in a Mariners uniform climbing the wall to rob a HR and "RELIVE HISTORY", Cutch and Gwynn in old team unis (ie, NOT DD), and Willie Mays' catch at the end. Then there's the screen with Babe Ruth that says, "Relive the career of Babe Ruth... Pitch in the World Series, break home run records, and cement Ruth's legacy."

Makes sense to me as a way to further leverage the rights for the former players, which from what I gather not being a DD player, are s very popular part of that mode. Plus it might appeal to those who appreciate baseball's history more than playing DD.

Only thing I'm really hoping for is improvment on commentary. The past few years have been very repetitive. I want team history brought up, past player accomplishments, I want the dialogue to stay more constant and not have so many lulls.

Really concerning that Franchise mode doesn’t even have its own stream this year. I geuss we can pretty much rule out the significant upgrades and overhaul some people were looking for. Contract extensions are a nice addition for sure but if that’s the biggest thing and only notable thing they’ve done with franchise that’s disappointing.

I really hope last year’s ‘phases’ thing wasn’t their idea of a year of focusing on Franchise. If so that time and resources was wasted and should’ve been spent elsewhere in Franchise in my opinion.

It’s a shame that it appears that 2K is the only one that cares about franchise anymore. NBA2K is not a perfect game but credit to them for continuing to improve franchise while EA and SDS sits back and does little to nothing with theirs. Just waiting for SDS to put ads everywhere inside the game for DD like EA does with MUT at this point.

I'm not going to jump to conclusions but it says franchise mode update. Not updates.

I don't understand the addition of season mode. Why couldn't they expand on franchise mode, making it even deeper, and just give the user the ability to choose if they want a fully immersive franchise mode, or turn all that off and essentially they have season mode?

I think you are safe to make that jump. With the backlash that the team has received with Franchise mode over the past few cycles, they would be highlighting a Franchise stream. Instead, they will be banking on the gameplay improvements streams to try to sell a better playing mode. The same stuff that has been broken/neglected will still be the same way in 2019. Not that a better playing mode will not help, but nobody should expect anything more than the contract negations. Just keep your expectations low.

Definitely will be playing OOTP, and if I feel the need to play the Show and they haven't touched Franchise mode again, I'll buy it used. I don't care if its only $5 cheaper. I refuse to give these developers money if they continue to choose to sell out all the people that have bought their games for over a decade in order to continue to sell what is essentially a free to play model game (DD) for $60. I NEVER buy used games. I hate that used games screw the developers. But SDS used to at least act like they cared about their community, and its quite clear that the only community they care about is the one that is willing to spend tons of money gambling on their DD mode modeled after free to play cell phone game tactics.

They haven't sold out the community. It's a fact the majority of their client base play DD and don't touch franchise. They're simply catering to the larger demographic. My issue is that they're literally IGNORING every other demographic.

Correct. They aren't selling out their current community. They are, however, selling out the community that supported them through 3 generations of consoles prior to gambling modes being a cash cow. MLB the Show exists today because of a passionate and loyal fanbase that bought the game for years based on RTTS and Franchise. And all those loyal fans who've bought that game for years, and kept it alive in its early days, they don't matter anymore. Because there are idiots that will spend $1000 on the game buying card packs. SDS sold out their old fans for a newer generation of people that care more about gambling than they do about baseball. Just like seemingly every other game developer these days.

If they made a separate MLB Franchise game separate from DD and charged $150, I'll buy it. I don't care about paying more. I just want the option to play an actual new franchise game. Not the same stale franchise mode from PS3 generation, repackaged with more Diamond Dynasty stuff.

Contract Extensions is a footnote because it wouldn't hold true for a single season that's played in MARCH TO OCTOBER mode.
I realize I'm asking you to guess with no first-hand info, but what features in a season mode would be big additions to franchise mode? All of the things I think of that need improving or adding to franchise wouldn't apply to a season mode (international FA, scouting/draft overhaul, addition of more minor league levels, etc.)?

I totally agree with the comments about DD. I feel like I am playing a serious of disconnected games merely to earn stubs to buy souvenirs to exchange at the immortal level. However, I believe SDS puts a lot of emphasis on DD as it is the one mode where players are likely to invest more money to buy stubs.

Sigh. Looks like Franchise gets the very short end of the stick again. Contract extensions is a very exciting add, but it's so small in the grand scheme of attention Franchise could use, and frankly, it's astounding that it took them this long to put in.

I'll reserve my full judgement until the actual stream, but it doesn't look good, and it's definitely not enough for me shell out $60+ on launch. SDS has really taken a sharp turn into EA territory.

The rewind is more or less an explanation of what all the scenes in the trailer are supposed to represent in the new game - and there are always some that are less obvious than others, so it's usually worth looking at.

Yes. It's a mode based on gambling addiction. Nearly every F2P game is based on the same concept of a slot machine. Keep grinding, doing the same thing over and over, hoping for better loot to drop. Its addictive.

I remember a time when video games were meant to be fun. Not become a legitimate addiction tricking people into spending thousands of dollars on things that have no actual worth.

Just because it makes SDS money, and every other developer/publisher that embraces these predatory modes, doesn't make them right.

I agree. I'm always amazed in those rewind streams the little gameplay details they've dropped that I didn't notice.
