I am irrationally opposed to using simming of any kind in franchise modes. I want to be responsible for 100% of the stats and results in a season, or the numbers don't mean anything to me. Makes sense?

So I spent an hour doing a fantasy draft with the Mariners, only to be disappointed that you cannot shorten the seasons or play shorter games than 9 innings. I was planning on doing one or both of these things so that I would not burn out on hour-long season games.

Aside from the framerate issues noted in the other thread, my main issue with The Show 19 is that I'm not sure how this game becomes a regular habit for me. I have a job and a young daughter, so it's pretty rare that I can commit to a solid hour of uninterrupted gaming. Yes, I can use rest mode to state-save and finish a game later, but I still have to commit to playing each game start to finish, when I might rather load up a 20-minute Ultimate Team game in FIFA, or play a shooter.

And yet, the GM/roster management aspects of a baseball game SHOULD be the main reason for playing a baseball game, since so many of us play fantasy and love the administrative/statistical aspects of the game. Hmm...
Its all about finding the best way to play for yourself. I’m like you and get the most enjoyment from the organizational management side so I prefer to keep the timeline moving and follow the play 1 / quick manage 5 plan that you’ll see a lot of guys following. I can quick manage a game in about 2-5 minutes depending on how bad my pitchers get clobbered. I can play a game in 2 hours without skipping any cinematics, which can be cut to 45 minutes if I skip all the presentation and animations in between pitches. All told, if I have about 2-3 hours to play before bed I can knock out a week of the season which allows me to make progress fairly quickly.

Some people play every game, every pitch, which is tempting to me at times but I’ve never been able to make any meaningful progress playing that way. Ive been playing my way for a few years now and find I’m able to work a franchise through multiple seasons without getting bored or feeling compelled to start over.

I rarely finish a full game when I play so I use the in game save all the time. Usually 2 30 ins windows will get me a through a game.

You'll have to make a ton of key decisions on who you try to retain vs let go. If you get off to a slow start, do you pull the trigger and start unloading guys and trigger a rebuild? If you get hot, do you ride the wave and hold onto guys under the mantra of "Flags Fly Forever"? You'll have to decide on who your core really is (Berrios might be the one and only obvious choice). How do you structure the team after 2019, do you re-tool or start over?

I think the Twins have the most fascinating franchise storyline for 2019; 10 of us could start a Twins franchise, and we could all go 10 different directions....a rebuild is just a rebuild....here you get to cement your legacy on day 1.
You just made me want to make one with the Twins when these OSFM roster come out!!

Does this thread count as a general franchise mode thread, or does it have to be exclusively MLB 19? I have done a bunch of franchise modes on different forums in the past, and the rules for these threads vary. Just want to check so I don't start one and get bopped because it's not thread-topical.

              Fantasy Braves 2019:

After losing in Cleveland 4-2, came back with a 4-2 win behind Teheran (3-2) who went 5.1 gave up two hits, 7 Ks, 2 walks. Acuna, homerless, sat it out and Mike Will went 2-4 in his place. Acuna has been without a homer. Just can’t hit with guy. Had 10 hits, one an A.C. Read double.

Today Kluber shut me out for 5.2 innings striking out 3 and walking 2, in a7-1 loss. Newcomb was awful, 2.2 innings, 6 hits, 7 runs giving up 3 doubles and a homer to Santana. Just could not get a feel for his pitching today.

Acuna went back to left.....0-4.....still homerless as we fell to 11-11, still only 1.5 behind the 12-9 Phil’s.

So.....I sent him down to AAA. Brought up 6 foot, 130 pound Alex Jordan. Yeah he looks that skinny. Has a scanned face. About all I can find on the guy is he, in real life, might be in real estate, but hey, even if he hits me one homer it will be one more than Acuna to date.

So, my fantasy team rolls on. I do make all the daily moves for the other teams, so it’s on to the 14-8 Reds. Presentation, improved gameplay and SMOOTH frame rate (sorry) make it hard to put down the controller.

The Cubs are in Miami to take on the Marlins in a quick 3 game road trip before heading back to Wrigley

Game 1: Jon Lester took the mound for the Cubs hoping to help turn things around. Lester was spectacular as he has been so far in the young season. He went 8.1 innings, striking out 6, no walks, and with the help of a Jason Heyward bases clearing double, gave the Cubs a 7-4 win over the struggling Marlins. Lester is now 4-0 and leads the league in wins

The Cubs however, paid a price for the win as Javy Baez has a torn pectoral after diving for a ball. He will miss 1-2 months. The Cubs have called up David Bote from AAA Iowa.

Game 2: Yu Darvish started game 2 looking for his second consecutive win. David Bote who had just been called up, took no time contributing! Both he and Ben Zobrist had first inning rbi's and that's all the Cubs would need as Darvish and the pen combined for a 2-0 shutout. Darvish went 6 innings, 7k's, 0 walks.

Game 3: Cubs looking for their first sweep of the season, would have the struggling Cole Hamels going for them in game 3. The Cubs struck in the first inning again on a Kris Bryant double. Bryant would go 3 for 4 with a HR and 4 rbi's as the Cubs won 9-3 and swept the Marlins. Hamels went 7 innings with 4k's to get his first win of the season. With the sweep the Cubs move into first place in the NL Central!

News & Notes: Zach Duke, the veteran lefty the Cubs signed in the off season is off to terrific start! 8 IP. 6k's 0BB and an ERA of 0.00! Jon Jay who the Cubs also signed as a FA is hitting .354, 17-H, 5-2b and 7 rbi. When asked about his performance, Joe Maddon said "it's getting harder Not to put him in the lineup every day. With Almora and DeShields off to slow starts, Jay is definitely gonna get more at bats." So far Theo's signings are looking pretty good.

The Cubs welcome the struggling Diamondbacks into Wrigley.

MLB the Show 19 - Baltimore Orioles Franchise

O’s drop a 4-game home series to the Yankees, 3 games to 1. Kimbrel blew two saves in the series, and now sits with a 5.63 ERA on the season and is 8/12 in save opportunities. This is a major problem for us, as any value we could potentially recoup from trading him is quickly evaporating. I can only hope he turns it around and goes on a run and increases his value, as he will do me little good riding the entire season out in our pen.

We were able to salvage our only win of the series after one of those blown saves, in a 16-inning grinder that finally ended with a walk-off sac fly. Sean Gilmartin, Mychal Givens, and Jimmy Yacabonis combined for 7.2 scoreless innings to save the day.

The team has played better in the past week or so, all 4 games against the Yanks were tight contests and we are 4-4 in our last 8 - sadly our best run of the season to date. Mark Trumbo and Chris Davis each homered in 3 consecutive games which is encouraging. Davis was batting .130 at the end of April, but has had a very strong May and has raised his average to a much more respectable .217 with 6 homers. Alex Cobb saw his 3-game winning streak snapped against the Yanks, but was still able to pitch into the 7th in his start. He has been my best starter, pitching to a 4.33 in 60.1 IP.

Injuries continue to haunt us, as corner infielder Rio Ruiz hits the 10-day IL with an ACL sprain. RHP David Hess gets the call to replace him for now, as we will carry an 8th bullpen arm for our trip to Colorado after the 16-inning affair against the Yanks. SS Richie Martin is still recovering from a ligament strain but we expect him back from the IL in the next day or two.

Gabriel Ynoa makes his season debut in Colorado against the Rox on the 25th - he makes it back to the majors after missing all of 2018 recovering from a stress fracture in his leg. He replaces Luis Ortiz in the rotation, who showed some promise in a few outings but quickly proved to be overmatched at the major league level. He’s one of my more promising pitching prospects and I can’t afford to hang him out to dry in a lost season, so he heads back to AAA where we hope he can find some more success.

11 days until the draft, and I’m looking forward to having the #1 pick.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

After a lot of debate last night, I decided on starting a Texas Rangers Franchise tonight. It was a close call between them and the Pirates, but I fell for having such a power bat like Gallo. I hope to work with him in the long term to turn him into more than a HR or bust hitter.

Plan is to trigger a rebuild this year if we aren't contending, or at the start of the offseason of year one if we are.

My plan is to definitely build around Odor & Gallo. Mazara and Guzman are up in the air (Mazara mostly because his batting stance distracts me when hitting with him). Anyone else I should consider for the long haul?

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

We snapped our 3 game losing streak by beating the Reds in game 1 of our series, but ended up losing last night to fall to 4-4 on the young season. Our pitching staff hasn't been as solid as in year's past, aside from Carlos Martinez who has pitched two gems thus far. Jack Flaherty gave up 5 runs in the first 3 innings last night, but settled down and got thru 6 innings. Our bats left runners in scoring position far too often going 1 for 14 with RISP.

Heading into the rubber match this afternoon. Alex Reyes will make his second start of the season, after getting beat up in his first start. Not sure who the Reds have going.

                      Other news

Kris Bryant has been placed on the 10 Day IL due to a fractured wrist. He is expected to miss the next 6 weeks for the Giants. Big blow to a team that had high expectations this year after signing both Bryant and Freddie Freeman.

April has witnessed a few minor trades thus far as teams continue to balance out their rosters. Cody Reed being dealt by the Reds to the Brewers is probably the most significant move.

MLB the Show 19 - Baltimore Orioles Franchise

                        Road to the Show Report

Taking a minute to spotlight the progress of some of my top prospects now that we are about 1/3 of the way through the minor league season:

                        Rising:

OF Yusniel Diaz (#1 Prospect, Age 22, AAA) - Diaz made the jump to AAA to start 2019 and has stuck as the starting left fielder and lead off hitter. He started red hot and has settled down a bit, but is batting a steady .280-.290 with some power and driving in runs. He is pushing for a late season major league call up.

LHP Alex Wells (#20 Prospect, Age 22, AA) - Wells is a soft-tossing lefty from Australia who projects as a #5 starter or swingman, but he’s had success at every level he’s pitched at. After posting a 2.17 ERA at AA Bowie he has earned a promotion to AAA and is in position to leapfrog over several guys who were considered more advanced and more promising at the beginning of the year.

RHP Zach Pop (#24 Prospect, Age 22, AA) - Pop has been near-perfect as the Bowie closer, locking down all 14 of his save chances while allowing just a single run. He likely will finish the season out in AAA and push for a big league job in 2020. He projects as a possible 7th or 8th inning set up man.

                        Falling:

OF Austin Hays (#4 Prospect, Age 23, AAA) - Hays became the first member of the 2016 draft class to reach the majors, but his development slowed after some injuries in 2018. A member of the 40-man roster, he failed to make the team out of spring training and has spent the year in Norfolk. Batting in the .230’s with just a single home run as the Tides' starting right fielder, Hays was passed over for a major league callup i favor of Dwight Smith Jr. when Orioles 4th outfielder Anthony Santander hit the IL with a broken ankle.

RHP Hunter Harvey (#7 Prospect, Age 24, AAA) - A perennial member of the O’s top prospect list, Harvey can’t seem to shake the injury bug that has plagued him in his 7 professional seasons since being drafted in the first round out of high school. After opening the year with 3 excellent starts in AA, Harvey was promoted to AAA for the first time where he exited with shoulder inflammation in his first start. Since returning, he has posted an ERA over 7 and has been relegated to bullpen duty. Harvey has undeniable stuff but a future in the pen seems the most likely outcome at this point.

RHP Branden Kline (#22 Prospect, Age 27, AAA) - Kline shocked the organization in spring training, as the 27 year old career minor leaguer made the big club after posting 8 dominant scoreless innings against major league hitters having never pitched above AA. After a few promising outings in April, Kline was sent to AAA in a necessary organizational move to bring a rested arm up after a multi-inning appearance. Since landing in Norfolk, Kline has been tuned up with a 6.50 ERA and hasn’t yet made it back to the show. Kline’s early success was encouraging but at age 27 he is running out of chances to fulfill his promising upside.

IF Rylan Bannon (#23 Prospect, Age 23, AA) - Bannon was acquired with Diaz and Pop for Machado in 2018, and projects as a fringe-average second baseman or utility infielder in the majors. He posted a .140 batting average at AA Bowie after drawing the starting 2B assignment to open the season and was demoted to Class A to work on his swing and regain some upside.

Matt Carpenter is back with the Cardinals

The Cardinals have re-acquired the services of Matt Carpenter after the Braves shockingly released him. The Braves made a trade with the Angels and acquired a highly touted first base prospect along with a shortstop. The Braves in turn released the 37 year old Carpenter who was listed as day to day with a knee sprain. The Cardinals jumped at the opportunity to bring Carpenter back home.

For the time being due to being injured the Cardinals are going to have Carpenter play down in Springfield a few days, then Memphis, and then will bring him back up to the parent club. The Cardinals will have a roster decision to make when they are ready to recall the likely future Hall of Famer.

                          Funny how things work out.

                            What are his career numbers?

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

July has started off with a bang as a lot of teams are swapping prospects around but nothing major at the MLB level.

The Dodgers made a move, trading 3 prospects; 2B Tim Locastro, CF Jaren Kendall and RF Henry Ramos to the Mets for LF Michael Conforto. Conforto will replace Joc Pederson as the every day LF with Joc becoming the DH when facing RHPs. Joc has really struggled at the plate especially against LHP. Conforto is rated higher in all batting categories with similar fielding skills but was the #2 LF in NY. Conforto is on the last year of his contract while Joc is on year 1 of a 3 year deal signed in the offseason. No guarantee which player, if either, will be in LF on Opening Day in 2020. This is strictly a “win now” move for the Dodgers.

This move would not have been made if the Dodgers front office wasn’t confident in the players they drafted in the last 2 years.

3B Donovan Solano was moved to AAA OKC to make room on the roster.

Using the A&S sliders this is the first time I’ve adjusted trades and I like what I’m seeing.
