I play em. The positional battles playing out and getting a look at younger players is really fun for me.

Cardinals sluggish on Opening Day, fall to Reds 6-3

Is there such a thing as a World Series hangover? Maybe, but I don't know if that is what you suggest was the reason for the Cardinals sluggish play on Opening Day at Great American Ballpark against the Reds.

The Cardinals committed 3 errors and the pitching staff walked a total of 10 batters during yesterday afternoon's game.

Kyle Funkhouser was simply out of sync as he only lasted 5 1/3 innings, giving up 5 runs on 5 hits, while walking 7 and struck out 4. The bullpen was steady as the Cardinals turned to Gallegos, Rodriguez, and Valerado to close out the game.

Offensively the Cardinals had chances to score runs but never could get the big hit. McKay went 0 for 4 with 3 strikeouts with 2 of those strikeouts coming with runners in scoring position and less than 2 outs. Juan Fabregas returned to the line up and was 2 for 4, but he struck out as the tying run in the 9th to end the game.

J.J. Bleday went 2 for 2 with 2 walks and a RBI double on the day. Nolan Gorman was 1 for 3 with a 2 run homerun. Kolten Wong did his part despite going 0 for 1 as he drew 3 walks on the day.

The Reds were powered by Clint Frazier's RBI single in the 4th, that was followed by Corey Seager's 2 run double to make it a 3-0 lead. Two batters later with no one on and 2 outs, Alex Jackson launched his first homerun of the season to make it 4-0. The Reds would score again in the 6th when Cole Brennan singled home a run and then again in the 7th when Stuart Turner hit a solo shot down the left field line that was aided by the wind.

The two teams are off on Friday, but will return on Saturday as Jack Flaherty will get the ball for the Cardinals. Not sure who the Reds are starting.

        NLCS - Game 7

After forcing a final and decisive game 7 yesterday, the Mets Noah Syndergaard was set to pitch Game 7 vs Clayton Kershaw. Kershaw got some very early help from his very potent line-up. After a Corey Seager double which drove in Betts, Joc Pederson roped another double to drive in two more runs for a early 3-0 lead. After a rocky start Syndergaard settled down to keep his team alive.

Kershaw cracked in the 5th inning after one of the rarest feats anyone had ever witnessed, a infield single by one of the slowest runners in baseball Wilson Ramos. But after two quick ours seemed destined to get thru another flawless inning, but twi straight singles (one that drove in Ramos) Whit Merrifield hit a laser beam over the center field wall to give the Mets the lead 4-3.

Neither team would put any score up in the 6th inning. Then in the 7th New York would get Rbi singles from Merrifield and J.D. Davis. Down by three Gavin Lux singled home Max Muncy to draw KA closer. In the following inning the Dodgers closed the gap even further when Cody Bellinger homered yet again in this series to make it 6-5.

In the bottom of the 9th, Manager Estevez decided to keep Justin Wilson in to see if he could finish off the 9th despite giving up the homerun to Bellinger. He didnt falter and got the last three outs on a grounder from Muncy, Lux struck out chasing a outside fastball, then will Smith lined out to Conforto in which Michael had to stretch to reach.

The Mets bench erupted on to the field and celebrated in front of a shocked LA crowd. The Dodgers team was seen just sitting on the bench in stunned belief, after having a 3-2 series lead LA lost two straight games in a series where they were heavily favored, and are left pondering what if after another year where they failed to claim a title for Hollywood.

The Mets will head home to face off against the Minnesota Twins who beat the Indians in four straight games. In hopes of ending a 34 year drought in Queens the Mets look foward to being in front of the home crowd for game one of the Series. After pitching game 6 deGrom will likely not be available for game 1 and probably not game 2. Here's hoping the team can capitalize on the euphoria that came from the last two games.

Thanks. I was super pumed after game 6. After going down early in game 7, I thought my goose was cooked. The Dodgers were annoying to play. They hit SO many opposite field hits, beyond annoying. But realized the error of my ways (auto shift is a killer against certain teams). But wish I figured it out sooner, didn't turn it off till late in game 5. Cody Bellinger was aggravating to pitch to anything hung was destroyed. Plus he robbed me of a homerun in the series (did it before he did it IRL last night).

To all my fellow stat nerds... Does anyone have a site or program or an app or something that they use to track batter/pitcher stats and game stats for your franchise? Im working on a excel one I wrote (but it takes so freaking long to input info) which Im still adjusting. I saw on here awhile back someone linked one, but it didn't work for me. I like knowing what my history is.. How did i do with player X vs. pitcher Y and what pitches he got me out on, and what pitches i get them out on and zone efficiency. All that jazz.

I usually sim them. I’ve yet to carryover a franchise so when the next game releases and I start a new franchise I’m just ready to get into the season as the real MLB season is about to start too.

Using a team like the Yankees makes ST less interesting to me too. Of course with a roster that strong you mostly already know who will be on your roster and in what role. If I were using more of a rebuilding team with more position battles I might play them.

Possible future additions to spring training in The Show like real ST ballparks, split squad games, non roster invitees, etc, to add more depth and realism would definitely make me want to play spring training games more.

Yeah Spring Training in the Show has grown extremely long in the tooth and needs updating to help make it meaningful to play.

I play through it now as its nice to at times play the game without the stress of winning or losing being the prime objective. Plus I play games in the minor league stadiums and old ballparks, which helps keep it somewhat interesting.

A spring training game in the worst stadium in this series. Looking at you Polo Grounds. That could spice up my future ST games.

                      World Series Game 1

The Mets (86') a team that hasn't won a world series till since I was a year shy of becoming a teenager. For the Twins (91') its been just a bit shorter. Both teams had solid years the Mets NL East Champs, led by Jacob deGrom and staff with NLCS MVP Pete Alonso and crew. Up against AL Central winner Minnesota with Jose Berrios, Miguel Sano and the "Bringer of Rain" Josh Donaldson.

In front of a sold out game in Flushing Marcus Stroman took the ball for NY, vs Berrios. It only took a inning for the offense to shake off the nerves and get down to business. Amed Rosario kicked off the offense with a solo blast to put NY ahead 1-0. In the 3rd Alonso couldn't resist a hanger wnd crushed ine over the fence to make ut 2-0. Then up again in the 5th inning Alonso smacked his second of the game. The Mets would get more help when in the 7th Jeff McNeil would add to the homer tally with a 2 run shot of his own.

Marcus Stroman took advantage of the help and pitched a very solid game, he scattered 8 hits over his 9 innings of work while fanning 5 for the complete game shut-out.

Jose Berrios only managed to get thru five innings for the Twins. He gave up just three runs on three hits (all home runs) and walked only 2 batters, but wasn't given much help in the field or from the bats.

It was announced after the game that Stephen Gonsalves will be tomorrow's starter, hopefully this time it won't bite Estevez in the keester. And looking to bounce back, Kenta Maeda will go for the Twins. Hopefully the Mets offense and pitching can keep it going.

                        World Series Game 2

Looking to take a 2-0 lead in the series the Mets jumped out early again. In the first inning Pete Alonso singled home Whit Merrifield. In the 3rd inning they added again on a RBI single from Michael Conforto to go up 2-0.

Gonsalves got into trouble in the 5th inning in the form if Nelsin Cruz and Josh Donaldson, who hit back to back homeruns. Now tied after a double by Conforto, with two men on the Mets got two sac flys from J.D. Davis and Rosario to go back up by two runs.

Mrts pitchers would hold strong and New York would flex some muscle again when Alonso hit a solo shot to make it 5-3. Adam Ottavino would close it out to give the Mets a 2-0 lead in the series. Mets Ace Jacob deGrom is scheduled to pitch game 3 and Jake Odorizzi is set to go for the Twins looking to get back in the series in front of there own fans back un Minnesota. Bring your parkas its gonna be cold!! But hopefully the Mets can stay warm and put a strangle hold on the title.

After an 88 win season and loss in the wild card game The Brewers looked to reload and go for the division in 2021. They had a fairly quiet offseason keeping the majority of the team in tact. The biggest news was the signing of SS Marcus Semien and the letting go of FA Ryan Braun. Improving the infield was high on Milwaukees to do list and with Semien they do that as well as get a top bat to put beside Christian Yelich. Ryan Braun after an 11 HR .268 avg year was not given a qualifying offer and instead allowed to walk as Milwaukee looks to get younger and start a life without the veteran outfielder. Rumours were swirling of a Josh Hader trade up until the final moments of the offseason as his arbitration period was getting ugly but he finally agreed to a 4/$32 million dollar deal. Expect Milwaukee to compete but the moment anything goes wrong they may look to offload some contracts and build the weak farm system. With 1 player in baseball top 100 prospects it's not exactly the most ideal position for your farm league nor does it say much about your scouts.

                          KEY ADDITIONS:
                          SS Marcus Semien 4/$49 mil

Cardinals avoid season opening sweep, drop series to Reds

The Cardinals won the series finale on Sunday afternoon in Cincinnati to avoid a season opening sweep to the Reds.

The Cardinals lost on Opening Day as noted earlier and didn't fare much better on Saturday when Jack Flaherty was roughed up in the loss, going just 5 innings giving up 6 runs on 9 hits and issuing 5 walks. The Reds also belted 3 homeruns off of Flaherty before chasing him from the game. Again, the bullpen was solid in response giving up just one run when Alex Jackson took Adam Cimber deep.

On Sunday, things were different. Junior Fernandez went 7 1/3 innings before surrendering a run on a Stuart Turner solo shot to make it 3-1 Cardinals. Giovanny Gallegos got the final two outs of the inning. Zack Burdi gave up 2 hits in 3 batters before being replaced by Jose Alvaredo who came into a 3-1 game with men on the corners and one out. He struck out the two batters he faced on 7 pitches. Roberto Osuna would give up a leadoff single in the 9th before striking out the side to preserve the 3-1 win, and the Cardinals first victory of the 2027 season.

Samuel Franco belted a two run homer in the 3rd inning of Sunday's finale and Nolan Gorman would hit a sac fly in the 5th to account for the teams offense.

The Cardinals will head home to host the Brewers for a 3 game series. Dakota Hudson, Michael Wacha, and Kyle Funkhouser are the scheduled starters.

Looking at the possibility of going up 3-0 in the Series, the Mets had their "Ace" on the mound feeling great about their chances. As for the Twins Jake Odorizzi had a ton of pressure on his shoulders in trying to get Minnesota back in the fight.

Both pitchers would hold the opposition scoreless un the first frame. In the 2nd however the Mets would strike first with a J.D. Davis home run. Then in the 3rd Rosario would knock in the Mets second run of the game. The Twins answered right back in the bottom half with a Jorge Polanco homerun.

In the fourth things would get more amped up. With a rbi double by Merrifield, then a 2 run dinger by Jeff McNeil, that made the score 5-1 NY. Minnesota would counter to keep the score close when Luis Arraez hit a double and brought in Polanco. The Mets struck again in the 6th when Michael Conforto, lead off the inning with a 425' blast to push New York ahead 6-2.

The score board operator got a break until the 9th inning. After a double by Dom Smith, Wilson Ramos homered to give the Mets a commanding 8-2 lead heading into the bottom of the 9th. Estevez felt that the lead was secure enough to allow Edwin Diaz the chance to get some work in and save the rest of the pen for more tighter situations. After a leadoff single by Jack Cave it looked like Diaz was back to his old tricks of coughing up runs, but shockingly he struck out the next three batters to end the game.

One more win stands between the Mets and the Championship title they have so desperately needed in Queens. After a small celebration the team settled themselves down and went back into the clubhouse to prepare for tomorrows game and possibly the last of the season. Noah Syndergaard is slated to pitch and Devin Smetltzer is the hurler scheduled to go for the Twins. So close..
