Re: MLB The Show 21: Five Things We Want From Franchise Mode

We know that logos imported into the Logo Vault before February 28th will be available for MLB the Show 21. However, what about players in the Player Vault and rosters in the Roster Vault? Is there any information on this? This is not really a carry over save like Rtts or Franchise as there are no accompanying statistics.

They've done the "logos in the vault" thing in the last couple of iterations at least; but never have for other file types (like rosters).

Also and I am no game developer....let’s say it was possible....they would have had to tear down franchise mode and rebuild it (I assume).

So if you are able to upload your PS4 franchise to the cloud and download it to the PS5 version.....then you can’t expect more than 90 man rosters with these factors I just mentioned.

And the hope is that Y2Y being removed was a sign that rosters were being expanded. I still think it will be the same. We will see. All questions will be answered when the game drops.
IRL 90% of minor league players never set foot on a MLB field so full minor rosters are no big deal. The primary focus is enough legitimate minor league players to create a sustainable carry over franchise.

Speaking of carry over franchise as the Bard would say there lies the rub.

I don't need playable high class A or low class A but I'd still like to have a more fleshed out farm system of say 130 players. don't really need a ''true full'' of 200+ players IMO
but increasing the 90 man would also allow to increase the drafting rounds from 7 to 14, which is sorely needed. again, my opinion
I like the fact most players you develop will never even get a cup of coffee in the big Show.
really makes searching for diamonds in the rough a better overall minor league experience afaic

This percent of what you speak is where the inherent problem lies and why a larger roster size will fix so many things.

Before I continue, I will say I pretty much doubt roster size will be increased this year.

The reason larger rosters would help is because roster makers and by extension roster users all want their favorite prospects all in the game and all with A potential. Even though they may be in rookie ball, everyone wants that 18 year old to be on an AA roster from the get go. It creates an unbalanced experience.

This also creates an overload of high prospects and years down the road the percent of players that reach the show is higher than what happens in real life.

Simply expanding the rosters to 104+12 players in rookie ball will help with so much in this game. A ball doesn't have to be playable but that would be a perk.

I don't see us getting anything we want on this list but I can dream.

              1) Ability to transfer any real logo photo to 2021 uniforms.
Including sleeve logos. Creating logo tool takes too long.

              2) 2020 you could create uniforms but couldn't use any other uniforms offered .
Don't restrict any combination between hats jersey pants including created hats jersey pants.

              3) Big ears equal overly wide helmets...recalculate from temple instead of ears.

              4) Shorter players heads are too big for their bodies. Please give us more control of head size

              5) A choice of bat length.
Just because a player is short shouldn't mean his bat must be short. Example Hack Wilson.Screenshot_20210315-143939_DuckDuckGo.jpeg

Again....cross console is what nerfed Y2Y at least for this year. All the talk it held back being able to improve franchise mode is bunk until proven otherwise.

My biggest hope was because they are expanding rosters and re-doing the core coding of franchise mode due to roster expansion.

LOL knew that was a long shot....but again hope to be proven wrong. I mean think about it. All the talk is about speeding up the game, getting through seasons in 18 hours....adding more players? More prospects to manage?

Come on folks...let's see what is really going on and know that almost all improvements are about streamlining not “expanding” franchise mode.

                Being real about it.

I love the game. But I don’t expect much in terms of franchise mode improvements. I see the opposite actually. I see things going into a more simplistic direction vs more complex.

And like I was posting about before, I rather see a lot more improvement with the on field experience inside franchise mode since those of us in that “niche" group of playing almost every game (in my case all 162) would love far more dynamic stats of the season popping up and keeping us engaged with other teams as we play them. It is such a huge immersion thing to see historical matchups, splits, current streaks, talk about injuries, trades, players coming up through he minors, more of that inside the game while playing...much more of that and franchise will only be better for it.

VS endless menus screens and spreadsheets. This is not a text sim. What needs to be done off the diamond is core AI lineup, drafting, trade, team building logic and expanded rosters would go a long way to helping that!!!

So we wait......and wait.....and wait lol.

                Maybe next year......sigh.

Let’s hope for some surprises on the franchise stream April 1st.

Looking forward to tonights first stream. It is always an exciting time with new MLB The Show news regardless of what it is.

What is it about cross-platform that has you convinced it has prevented Y2Y continuing? Y2Y saves are just a database. They’re fairly platform agnostic.

I don’t feel we will get roster expansion this year, but if we are going to get it anytime in PS5 lifetime, the time is now. It’s something that will cause massive issues with Y2Y saves (how to add the additional players to the save file’s rosters) and will mean that in a future release there will be a choice between one feature or the other for that year.

I am purely speculating. But I have seen a lot of back and forth about "well Y2Y held back improvements on franchise mode".

Let’s see what the so-called “updates” are this season that has some people convinced that is why Y2Y was taken out.

I am not nearly as convinced it was removed for that reason on MLB 21. But if it was removed so they can improve a lot with the core mode I really have no problem with it’s removal for that reason.

I just find it very odd that moving to a new console combined with XBOX getting the game and now Y2Y was removed.

Why? Why have we not even gotten an answer as to the “why”?

Just tell us. I mean why is it such a secret as to the why?

It would be a big "hurray" from the community if they said “it held us back from franchise improvements”. That would be well received. But then.....expectations start rising and IMO I think nothing significant has been done to Franchise Mode to justify Y2Y's demise for 21.

Again pure speculation. I am not looking to get into a debate....I am merely just discussing....”why”.

It was a groundbreaking feature and one a lot of us in this particular community embraced 1000%. It is a bummer it is gone.

If they came out and said well the move to a different console on two different gens did not allow for us to continue the Y2Y feature....the reaction and feedback won’t be as nice.

I get it.....if that is the reason...I get it. I can’t be mad. More people are going to be able to enjoy the game (XBOX) so that is all positive.

I just would like to know “why” and “when” it will return (if ever).

No big deal. We can still play MLB 20 for a long time.

If things on this thread get implemented (expanded rosters, better AI lineup logic, in game logic improvements, better presentation etc etc etc and simulation gameplay does not get overrun, over time by stick skills) yeah....we can look to let go of our long running franchises to enjoy a true new and improved game sometime in the future.

But for the first time.....I have become very pessimistic about the direction of this game and a lot of sports games in general.

Let’s use our common sense. The direction of sports games is going the way of E-Sports and online. The Show is on that track more than ever. It was the last bastion of core simulation play. And I am sure the gameplay on 21 will be very good, but already we are seeing the culture shift (check swings) with no more ratings check on check swings, the marketing is completely aimed at the kids and DD....MTO (a far more streamlined season mode basically that can be played in 18 hours wire to wire).

                  Just one mans opinion.

I imagine they will explain why it was removed when we get to the franchise or RTTS stream

And I expect they will then discuss their current stance as to its return

I couldn't agree more about Expansion Team Mode for Franchise; I believe this would be the most compelling game mode out there. Sim-style players would enjoy the chance to build a realistic expansion team that can compete in the majors, DD players would enjoy trying to put together a team of the best players they could find and using their logos/teams in a Franchise setting, and RTTS players could bring up their RTTS player as the first legend for this new team. -- This leverages the stadium creator, logo creator, and would add an exciting twist to Franchise mode. -- Personally, this would be my favorite mode.

Don't count on a reason as to 'why' they never told us why season mode vanished. that only a year later March to October came out which we all 'assumed' was the reason for it to be gone.

They are really started to head towards that EA way of taking features out and magically put them back in years later.. we did lose sounds of the show and it was put back in. (that was a next gen thing though wasn't it) it's when they advertise it as "a new feature' that is annoying

This time last year.. we all had MLB 20 all locked in our houses and I was doing roster work getting it right with the default rosters...

this year we don't even know what is new to the game with franchise and we are now a month from release. it's quite sad really. what time last year from release were we told about Minor league rosters??? was it a month before release?? you would think by now if we had expanded rosters we would know by now and it would be announced with a month before release.

I just see it as the same boring 90 man rosters with 10 class A guys that are fake. with the same ridiculous way of moving guys around with the roster management that we have seen for 10 years. until we are told otherwise I will assume it is that again this year.

We knew about minor league rosters on Feb 13th when they discussed RTTS changes and in turn lumped franchise in with it.

I don't think that just because its one month until release and nothing in regards to expanded rosters has been mentioned that its a tell tale sign that expanded rosters aren't happening. Maybe they are still 90, who knows?

I'm just waiting to see what's what on April 1st when franchise mode is discussed. Check out whats new, changed, and hopefully learn the team's plans for Y2Y saves whether it be to bring back at some point or scrap for good.

                            Until then.......
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Sim-style players would enjoy the chance to build a realistic expansion team that can compete in the majors, DD players would enjoy trying to put together a team of the best players they could find and using their logos/teams in a Franchise setting, and RTTS players could bring up their RTTS player as the first legend for this new team. -- This leverages the stadium creator, logo creator, and would add an exciting twist to Franchise mode. -- Personally, this would be my favorite mode.

Go to NHL game) is a blast and is done really well.

That would be an awesome mode if it is done correctly on MLB The Show. I would be all over it.

Yeah well if they announced right now expanded rosters. I would hit pre order now and they finally would swing me! I would take that over Y2Y saves. any other year but y2y saves wouldn't have bothered me only I decided back in Jan to start a season expecting that 'don't worry can carry it over in mlb 21' so that is why have paused on buying 21. and with the roster problems with exporting there will be delays with rosters having to start from scratch (assuming we can't import rosters from 20 either)

I will in the end grab 21 but it might not be on release date unless I do hear things like expanded rosters, April 1st seems like a long way away a dangerous day to tell news too! lol
