APRIL 21-23: FLAGSTAFF (18-4) @ COLORADO SPRINGS (8-15)
Stadium: Security Service Field (Capacity: 13,587)

April 21: Hops 11, Snow Sox 7
April 22: Snow Sox 7, Hops 2
April 23: Hops 9, Snow Sox 1

Colorado Springs, CO (AP) - Flagstaff stayed hot as they took two of three in Colorado Springs to open up their road trip.

Flagstaff ran their winning streak to 11 games on Friday night with an 11-7 victory over last-place Colorado Springs. Roberto Geronimo’s grand slam in the eighth keyed a seven-run inning as the Hops pulled away.

Colorado Springs led this one 2-0 and Sam Gonzalez had a no-hitter going heading into the fifth inning. Emmitt Hampton singled and Robbie Westbrook doubled to open the inning. Oscar Aleman tied the ballgame with a two-run single and Arturo Mardones followed that with a two-run home run as the Hops flipped the script to go up 4-2.

The Hops would then hit three home runs in the eighth to go up 11-3. Geronimo hit the grand slam with Oscar Aleman hitting a solo home run and Forrest Owen hitting a two-run shot.

Colorado Springs would get a few back off of Samuel Espinoza and Pedro Macias to make the final a bit more respectable.

Newcomer Jamie Case homered in his Snow Sox debut.

This game featured seven home runs in a game in which the wind was blowing in. The thin air of Colorado Springs is a hitters paradise.

The winning streak is over. On Saturday evening Mike Stoneridge and the Snow Sox put an end to the Hops 11 game winning streak as they handed the Hops a 7-2 defeat. Hank Harmond homered twice to help lead the way, leading the Snow Sox to the win.

Flagstaff jumped out to a 2-0 lead through five innings, thanks to Josh Ortega. He homered in the third and had an RBI double in the fifth.

Shoe-Lace O’Tying started but had to lead the game in the second inning with leg pain. Angelo Chacin came on in relief and pitched well until the sixth. Hank Harmond homered to left to open the inning. Gonzalez singled to right and Donnell Marcus doubled. Sam Varela came on in relief and the first pitch he threw he surrendered a two-run double to Todd Austin that put Colorado Springs ahead, 3-2. Juan Caceras would add an insurance run with an RBI groundout as the Snow Sox scored four in the inning.

Hank Harmond would hit a solo home run in the seventh off of Varela to make it 5-2. Juan Caceras would add a two-run homer in the eighth to put the home side up 7-2.

Mike Stoneridge (1-2) would pick up his first win in 2023, tossing seven innings and allowing two runs on only four hits. He struck out two and walked two. Angelo Chacin (0-1) took the loss, pitching 3 2/3 innings and allowing three runs on five hits. Sam Varela and Mark Wirth each allowed two earned runs out of the bullpen.

Donnie Roland was injured in batting practice, straining his bicep and he was placed on the 10-day Injured List. Show-Lace O’Tying’s injury was considered minor and he is day-to-day.

On Sunday afternoon the Hops rallied late for a 9-1 victory, scoring two in the seventh and seven in the eighth to win the series. Ryan Pressley pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowing one run on five hits, while striking out six as Flagstaff improved to (18-4).

Colorado Springs (8-15) got a really good pitching performance from Brian Chin, until the seventh inning. He allowed only two hits in the first six innings as the Snow Sox lead 1-0. Their lone run came in the fourth on a Juan Caceras RBI double.

In the seventh the Hops finally broke through. Arturo Mardones singled home Roberto Geronimo, who had doubled. Forrest Owen and Art Mason singled to load the bases and Leandro Lugo singled to left to score Mardones, but Owen was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

In the eighth, the Hops made two quick outs, then scored seven runs all with two outs. Roberto Geronimo singled home Robbie Westbrook, who had walked and stolen second. Oscar Aleman doubled and Arturo Mardones was intentionally walked to load the bases. Isaac Nettles, who was just recalled form Albuquerque, lined a pinch-hit single to center to score Geronimo and Aleman to make it 5-1. Art Mason walked and Leandro Lugo blooped a two-run single to right to make it 7-1. Emmitt Hampton then lined one into the left field corner to score Mason and Lugo as the Hops blew this one wide open.

The Hops will now head to Salt Lake City to take on the Chukars (10-12) in a three game series.

Around the League: Carl Lentzkow homered and drove in three against his former team as Chandler defeated Phoenix 6-3 to extend the Firebirds losing streak to five games. Jaime Hernandez went 3 for 3 and hit a three-run home run in the top of the ninth as Surprise rallied for a 9-7 victory over Scottsdale.

San Diego scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth to rally for a 7-4 victory over Goodyear. The Seals are now (13-7) and sit atop the DL West. St. George pounded out 17 hits and Ryan Holland (3-1) tossed a complete game two-hit shutout as the Archers defeated Austin 11-0.

Bruno De La Cruz tossed a complete game, three-hit shutout, striking out six, as El Paso defeated Albuquerque 5-0. The Blue Rocks have now won five straight.

Sean Pressley went 4 for 4 with three home runs and drove in six as Henderson pounded Las Vegas 16-5. The Silver Knights scored ten runs in the top of the first and hit six home runs in the game as they improved to (11-11) on the season. Jon Reyes (2-2), making his debut for Las Vegas after coming over from Colorado Springs in a trade, could not even record an out, allowing six runs on four hits and walking two. Henderson’s first 11 batters reached safely in the game.

Trades: The Colorado Springs Snow Sox have acquired 25-year-old shortstop Jamie Case (82 OVR, C POT) from Las Vegas in exchange for 35-year-old starting pitcher Jon Reyes (86 OVR, B POT) and 23-year-old third baseman Wes Nagle (64 OVR, C POT).

I actually just deleted every franchise save file that I have, including from the cloud, and started fresh. Nothing to bounce to or go back and forth with. My thought is if Y2Y saves return (highly unlikely) I'll carry it over. If not, then I'll decide what to do when '23 releases.

So aggravated with myself.
Thanks man! I had a 3 year run in '20 with the Jays, so I'm hoping I can get back into it. I don't have a PS5, so there'll be no rush for '23 unless there's some drastic change. I like the idea of the new playoff format and balanced schedule, but it's not a game-breaker for me right now, so I'll hopefully just roll with this for a while.

The Jays are my favourite team, so I do feel like there's a connection there that should hold me back from making trades just for the sake of it. I think year 1 will probably be the year that I field the strongest team, so I *SHOULD* have to make some tough decisions at the deadline, and then again in the offseason. Trying to keep everything afloat as everyone starts regressing, while also having a fairly barren farm system should get pretty interesting.

PADRES SWEEP ROCKIES

In a quick 2 game series at Petco Park the Padres swept the Rockies pushing their record to 0-5. In game 1 Juan Soto erased all doubts about his slow starting going 3-5 with 2 HRS to raise his average to a more Soto like .300. The power continued with home runs by Manny Machado (3), Xander Bogaerts (pictured above, 2-4 in the game) and David Dahl (2-4 in the game) hitting their firsts of the year, and in this case, first HR's in Padre uniforms for Xander and Dahl. Seth Lugo made his first start for the Padres however only threw 4.1 innings giving up 2 runs and striking out 4 and did not qualify for the win which went to Brent Honeywell Jr. Honeywell, making his second appearance of the season came in and allowed 2 runs in 2.2 IP. Josh Hader picked up his 3rd save of the season with a perfect 9th inning where he struck out 2 batters.

Final Score: 7-4 Padres
WP: Brett Honeywell (1-0)
LP: Ryan Feltner (0-1)
S: Josh Hader - 3

Game 2 saw another masterful performance by Padre staff ACE Yu Darvish who cruised through 6 innings however did allow 3 runs in the 7th (both scored off relief pitcher Luis Garcia but charged to Darvish). The Padres were lead by Superstar Fernando Tatis Jr who went 3-4 with 2 HR's in the game including a first pitch lead off home run to set the tempo. Tatis had 3 of the 4 RBI's for the Padres with the 4th coming off a Xander Bogaerts double who plated home Manny Machado. Ha-Seong Kim continues his hot start and is now hitting .333 on the season (6-18). Darvish as mentioned went 6.1 IP allowing 3 runs with 0 BB and 7Ks. RP Steven Wilson continues his dominate start to the year with 2 K's in the 8th inning which set up another Josh Hader save to push the Padres record to 5-1 to start the campaign.

Final Score: 4-3 Padres win
WP: Yu Darvish (2-0)
LP: Austin Gomber (0-2)
S: Josh Hader - 4

Is there any way to boost attendance in this game? I’m 7-1, team full of stars, Padres have top 3-5 in attendance in real life the last 3 years but my games are still low attended during franchise mode.

I think attendance is also based on time of year/opponent as well. In my recent series against the A's I had 13,000 but against the Padres I had nearly 40,000. Both games were in Washington and within a week or two of each other.

The Nationals split their four game series against the Cardinals, but a bullpen collapse (again) kept them from winning game two. I don't have the numbers in front of me so this will be a shorter recap.

Game 1 saw the debut of Cade Cavalli, the Nationals number one pitching prospect. He would go four innings, giving up seven, walking one, and striking out two.

Game 2 saw the Nationals dominate early, and by the sixth inning they were up 7-3. The Cardinals offense would wake up in a big way, and the weak Nationals bullpen could not contain them...the Cardinals would come back and win 9-7.

Game 3 was all Nationals, but I admit I don't have the final score or any stats at hand.

And finally, game 4 was a 2-0 win by the Nationals.

It's nice to see the Nationals offense scoring more runs, even if it is the end of the season. And while they are winning more now, it seems that a third pick in next year's draft is the most likely outcome. I want to see if this team can finish the season strong and carry their growth into next year.

For now, it's off to Philly for three against the NL East leaders.

I'm not 100% sure that I'm remembering this correctly, but I feel like it also has to do with the day of the week & your record/opponents record.

Something tells me that was the case in '20 at least? I don't pay a ton of attention to the attendance, which I probably should. I *think* there was even something at Dodgers stadium to mimic the fact that the crowd typically shows up late/leaves early or something along those lines?

I'm struggling to find a connection with my longest running franchise in '22 due to my inability to get out of my own way and enjoy the game like I had so many years before.

Most of the damage was done early, but I decided to keep him in to see how he did. His next start is in my next game so...let's hope for a better result.

I think both of those factor in for sure. I'm just going off of what I've seen. I'm not sure about Dodgers stadium, especially since the Switch version doesn't actually show all the people in the stands (I think it's to prevent framerate issues). I don't always check attendance, sometimes I just notice it when I'm checking the weather as well.

I keep track of the attendance in my franchises. I’m in August in my Braves franchise and we are averaging 33K per game. Real life they averaged 38K. We are in 2nd place with a 79-46 record.

I just had a 2 games against the Astros come in on a weekend series and the first two games were 41K each. During the week, I played the Mets and it was about 35K. One day it rained it was only 24K.

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
