Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

Here's hoping you can find a connection with this franchise again! I hate saving over something on accident, it's happened before in various games.

Speaking of things happening over and over again, the Padres annihilated the Nationals in the first two games of the series, 7-0 in both matchups. The Nationals would then take game three, a 5-4 victory that saw them work the count and manufacture runs via walks and base hits as opposed to trying to rely on the long ball. This team is not built to play that style of ball, and seeing them win against the second best offense in the majors playing REAL baseball was a great thing to witness. Game four was a letdown, the Padres would win 2-0 and it could have gone either way, but Joe Musgrove was able to work around some walks and a few hits and shutdown the Nationals in the middle to late innings before turning it over to the bullpen.

Juan Soto continued to annihilate his former team. He hit three home runs in his return to DC, and added two more in this series. San Diego is set to make a deep postseason push, they are only 4.5 games behind the Dodgers for the NL West and are almost guaranteed at least a Wild Card spot. I am using the post deadline rosters here, or the post-Tatis drug test roster if you will. He is nonexistent in my franchise.

The Nationals (43-84) will now have a much needed day off before playing two games in Seattle against the Mariners, who are tied with the Astros for first in the AL West at 75-51.

      Thanks I actually did.

I took a break for a while and hopped back on and just instantly felt that connection. I've come to terms with re-doing the offseason, fixed some of the small issues that were bugging me, and am back to going through the offseason.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

Well, the Nationals bullpen woes have returned. In the first game, they took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the ninth. The team turned to Kyle Finnegan to earn the save, as he has been the most consistent bullpen arm this season and with an ERA of 1.05, seemed like a sure lockdown to get a victory. Nope, a leadoff walk, followed by a Ty France homerun off the foul pole would tie the game, and the Mariners would walk it off on a base hit by Curt Casali. The second game saw Seattle take a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth, only for Washington to tie it in the top of the sixth. Both teams would then turn to their bullpens. The M's would then score a run in the bottoms of the sixth and seventh innings before the Nationals would respond with one in the eighth. The Nationals would then rally for two more in the top of the ninth. Surely, then, they could pull this one off. Enter Paulo Espino. Derek Hill would fly out onto the warning track on the very first pitch, which should have been a warning to just about everyone. Ay, on the very next pitch, JP Crawford would launch a home run to right center...and ballgame. Another bullpen collapse, even when the Nationals offense was clicking and rallying all game.

It was a disappointing two game series, even though the two teams are at opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of competitiveness.

I originally was planning on looking for more offense during the offseason, but I think the bullpen is a much more glaring issue now. I think the team has enough offense to be competitive next year, but the pitching staff needs work. The rotation is alright, but Strasburg might be more of a trade asset than a key piece if the team finds itself struggling again. He is still the face of this team and their only real star, but still has some quality years ahead of him that a contending team should be willing to trade for.

In other team news, Stephen Strasburg is off the IL. Hunter Harvey was sent back to AAA to make room for him. James Wood will officially miss the rest of the season as he was put on the 60 Day IL with his fractured leg. He joins Lane Thomas (broken ankle) and Ildemaro Vargas (torn ACL) as everyday players that will not be with the team until next spring.

Something else I've forgotten about until I tried to get more stats for more detailed followups: If I try to view the box scores on the Nintendo Switch, half of the numbers (ie RBIs for game/season, HR for game/season, etc...) don't show up, just the players name. This makes it really annoying to try to recall what happened in each game since I normally just post after every series. Just a small gripe.

Anyway, the Nationals will now have an off day to travel back to DC. They will then face Cincinnati for three, followed by another off day, and then a three game series against the A's to end August and begin September. These should be winnable games for the Nats, and since I hate tanking, I will be going for as many wins as I can.

            Colorado Rockies Franchise: 2023

Greinke throws gem, Rockies thump Tigers: Whoof! That's the kind of pitching performance we were looking for. Zack Greinke, coming off of a couple of so/so starts, absolutely stomped the Tigers lineup, going 7 IP with 6 K's and 1 BB, while only allowing 2 hits.

It was also a breakout game for Brendan Rodgers, who had his first multi-hit game of the season, going 3/4 with a double and 2 RBI. Kris Bryant broke out of his power slump as well, going 3/5 with 2 HR, a double
while also knocking in 3 runs.

First baseman CJ Cron, who hadn't homered in 10 games, also put one over the wall, and also picked up an RBI single later in the game.

All told, the Rockies pushed across 7 runs in this one, beating the Tigers 7-1. It was nice to see the squad put together a full game, as they played solid defence behind Greinke, which has been a rarity this year.

Next up for the Rox is a 4 game set in Philadelphia, against the MLB leading Phillies. The Phillies are 17-6 so far this year, 1.5 games ahead of the 15-7 LA Dodgers.

            Rotation Stats:

            Zack Greinke: 3-2, 27.2 IP, 26 K, 11 BB, 3.25 ERA, 1.30 WHIP
            Kyle Freeland: 1-1, 23.2 IP, 13 K, 6 BB, 3.42 ERA, 1.31 WHIP
            Stephen Strasburg: 1-1, 25.0 IP, 26 K, 6 BB, 4.48 ERA, 1.08 WHIP (Acquired April 12th)
            Antonio Senzatela: 1-2, 14.2 IP, 9 K, 8 BB, 7.36 ERA, 1.70 WHIP
            Joey Lucchesi: 1-2, 18.2 IP, 15 K, 8 BB, 4.62 ERA, 1.71 WHIP

                  APRIL 13-16: EL PASO (6-10) @ FLAGSTAFF (13-3)
                  Stadium: AutoZone Park (Capacity: 9,577)

                  April 13: Hops 6, Blue Rocks 5
                  April 14: Hops 4, Blue Rocks 1
                  April 15: Hops 3, Blue Rocks 2 (10)
                  April 16: Hops 11, Blue Rocks 6

Flagstaff (AP) - Flagstaff completed a four game sweep of El Paso to open up the home stand. The Hops have now run their winning streak to seven games and lead the IBL with a (13-3) record.

The Flagstaff Hops grabbed the opener 6-5 in a wild one. Art Mason’s fourth hit of the game in the ninth scored Skyler Lyons as the Hops walked off the win, their fourth straight. Mason went 4 for 5 with two doubles, a homer and three RBIs.

Flagstaff led 3-1 in the seventh when Antonio Pena hit a two run home run off of Juro Yamaguchi to tie the game at 3-3.

Emmitt Hampton then lined a one-out, two-run double in the bottom of the eighth to put the Hops up 5-3.

Vic Miller (1-0) came on in the ninth, trying to nail down his seventh save of the season, but it was not to be. He gave up solo home runs to Josh Hawk and Tommie Bennett to tie the game at 5-5.

That setup Art Mason to be the hero. Forrest Owen doubled to open the bottom half. He was pinch run for by Skyler Lyons. Mason then hit a rocket at first baseman Josh Hawk. He could not handle it and the ball went into right field with Lyons scoring easily with the winning run.

On Friday evening the Hops got a great pitching performance from Sam Herzog in a 4-1 victory over the Blue Rocks. Herzog allowed one run on six hits over seven innings to help the Hops win their fifth straight game.

A Josh Hawk RBI single in the third inning got El Paso on the scoreboard, but that would be it for their offense in this one.

The Hops would tie it up in the fourth as Donnie Roland reached on a throwing error from Brandon Gayle, allowing Oscar Aleman to score. They would take the lead in the sixth on a Rodney Millar RBI single. Oscar Aleman would then add a huge two-run home run to center in the eighth to make it 4-1.

Vic Miller came on in the ninth and was able to nail down the save, his seventh on the year.

The Hops ran their winning streak to six games on Saturday afternoon with a 3-2 victory in extra innings. Leandro Lugo’s RBI single drove in Art Mason with the winning run.

The Hops jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the fourth on an Emmitt Hampton two-run home run, his fourth on the season.

El Paso would claw their way back with an RBI single from Shuheii Takahashi in the fifth and Jason McKenzie’s RBI triple in the sixth.

In the tenth, Art Mason singled and stole second, then scored on Lugo’s blooper to center.
Pedro Macias (1-0) picked up the win out of the bullpen, pitching two innings and not allowing a hit while striking out three. Alex Farmer pitched six innings, allowing two run son nine hits. Oliver Benedict came on with two shutout innings before giving way to Pedro Macias.

Bryan Higgins was excellent for El Paso, throwing six innings and allowing the two runs on just six hits. Sam Lopez (0-2) took the loss, pitching 1.2 innings and allowing a run on three hits.

The finale on Sunday afternoon was a slugfest with the Hops winning 11-6. Flagstaff used a six run fourth to open up a big lead as they cruised to a seventh straight victory. Skyler Lyons lead the way, going 3 for 5 with two doubles, a homer and two RBIs as he gave Robbie Westbrook a rest day.

El Paso (6-10) hit four home runs in the game, but it wasn’t enough as they dropped into last place in the ML Central. Shuheii Takahashi homered and drove in two for the visitors.

Shoe-Lace O’Tying improved to (3-0), tossing seven innings and allowing three runs on four hits. He allowed two home runs, while striking out five and walking one.

Flagstaff will host the defending champion San Antonio Javelinas (8-9) for a three game series beginning tomorrow evening to close out the home stand.

Around the League: The surprising San Diego Seals improved to (10-3) on the season as they rallied from a 5-2 deficit with three runs in the eighth and four in the ninth to defeat Surprise 9-5.

Adam Hendricks (1-0) tossed a complete game five hitter, striking out nine as Roswell shutout Prescott 6-0.

Matt Campbell tossed 7 2/3 innings for the Seals, allowing just one run on six hits and striking out 12, but got a no decision as San Diego dropped a 3-1 decision to Long Beach in 14 innings. Desmond Loftus and Vinnie Jordan hit back-to-back homers in the 14th inning to provide the Surf Dawgs with the go ahead runs.

Morales improved to (4-0) as he tossed eight innings, allowing just one run, in a 12-1 Seals victory over Long Beach. Prescott pounded out 20 hits as they scored nine in the first inning and destroyed Roswell 19-2. Noah Wilson went 3 for 6 with a homer and six RBIs to pace the Hot Shots offense.

Trades: With Josh Carroll on the shelf with a broken ankle for at least two months, the Hot Shots have acquired centerfielder Cesar Zambrano from West Texas in exchange for first baseman Charlie Hopper.

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

The Nationals now move to 45-87 after taking two of three from the Reds. The first game saw Josiah Gray pitch a complete game shutout, and the Nationals walked it off in the bottom of the ninth with a basehit up the middle by Keibert Ruiz. Game two was all Reds, scoring 3 off Strasburg early and never looking back to win 7-2. Game three was all Nationals, 6-2. Mackenzie Gore picked up only his fourth win of the season, despite not having great numbers in the box sxore, he kept the Reds off balance and they're aggressive attack led to many quick innings.

It came at a steep price, however, as they lost everyday catcher Keibert Ruiz (fractured ankle) in the second game and Brady House (I'll update this when I finish my next game) in the finale. Riley Adams was called back up to replace Ruiz and rookie Samuel Infante was called up as a utility man. The loss of House is especially disappointing as he showed many promising signs in his first half season in the majors.

The Nationals will close out August against the A's, the worst team in baseball.

                      APRIL 17-19: SAN ANTONIO (8-12) @ FLAGSTAFF (16-3)
                      Stadium: AutoZone Park (Capacity: 9,577)

                      April 17: Hops 5, Javelinas 4
                      April 18: Hops 6, Javelinas 5 (14)
                      April 19: Hops 10, Javelinas 3

Flagstaff, AZ (AP) - The Flagstaff Hops swept the defending champion San Antonio Javelinas to run their winning streak to ten games as they improved to (16-3) to open up the 2023 season. Two walk off wins and then a blowout in the finale ran the Hops home record to 13-1.

The Flagstaff Hops hit five solo home runs, including a walk off homer from Emmitt Hampton to open the bottom of the ninth as they rallied for a 5-4 victory over San Antonio to run their winning streak to eight games. Art Mason went 4 for 4 with two solo home runs to help pace the offense as Flagstaff moved 11 games over .500.

Mason opened the game with a solo home run to right on the first pitch that he saw in the bottom of the first inning.

Tom Santo hit a two-run home run for San Antonio in the fifth to give the Javelinas a 2-1 lead. An Oscar Aleman home run would tie it in the bottom half.

Kosuke Matsui would put the Javelinas up 4-2 in the sixth with a two-run home run of his own off of Ryan Pressley.

But the Hops brought their big sticks in this one. Arturo Mardones homered in the sixth to cut the lead to 4-3. Art Mason then tied it up in the eighth with is second homer of the ballgame, and sixth on the campaign. That left Emmitt Hampton to win it in the ninth with his fifth home run on the season.

Also Osuna (2-1) picked up the win out of the bullpen. He pitched two scoreless innings. Ryan Pressley pitched well, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings of work. He struck out four and walked three.

Sergio Lima (0-1) took the loss for the Javelinas.

Things are turning almost magical here in Flagstaff, as they pulled off an improbable comeback on Tuesday evening, to run their winning streak to nine games with a 6-5 win in 14 innings. Oscar Aleman went 3 for 6 with two home runs and drove in four including the game winning walk off homer in the 14th.

Flagstaff trailed 4-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth after a Horace Ramirez RBI double put the Javelinas in position to win. Facing closer Jung, Robbie Westbrook pulled the Hops to within 4-2 with a sacrifice fly, scoring Donnie Roland. Oscar Aleman then blooped a two-out single to left to score Emmitt Hampton and Roberto Geronimo to tie the game at 4-4.

Horace Ramirez then singled home Robert Roberts in the 11th to give the visitors a 5-4 lead. But Robbie Westbrook came through with a solo home run to tie it up again at 5-5.

That set the stage for Oscar Aleman to win it in the 14th.

Closer Vic Miller had to leave the game in the 13th inning after facing four batters but it was determined after the game to be minor and he is expected to be back in a few days.

Also Osuna (3-1) picked up the win as he got the final four outs.

After falling behind 2-0 in the finale, the Hops put up eight runs in the second inning and cruised to a 10-3 victory to secure the sweep. Forrest Owen hit a grand slam and Josh Ortega hit a three-run shot in the second inning for the red-hot Hops.

San Antonio (8-12) grabbed a 2-0 lead in this one on a T.J. Hart solo home run in the first and Zach Lamb RBI single in the second. But the Hops struck for eight in the bottom half and never looked back.

Sam Herzog (3-1) picked up the win, tossing six innings and allowing three runs on six hits. He struck out three. Sam Varela picked up a save as he pitched the final three innings.

Ken Morris (1-1) took the loss, allowing eight runs on seven hits, managing to get just four outs.

Flagstaff (16-3) will have Thursday off before a six game trip to Colorado Springs (7-13) and Salt Lake (9-10).

Around the League: Ken Hollinger homered twice and drove in three as Surprise defeated Phoenix 5-2 in the first meeting since last season’s DL Championship. Cory Law homered twice and drove in six as surprising Yuma dumped Long Beach 13-3. The Dust Devils, who had the worst record in the IBL last season, are hanging in there at (7-10).

Armando Bermudez (2-2) tossed seven shutout innings as Gilbert defeated Salt River 1-0. Bermudez struck out seven and walked four for the first-place Barnstormers.

Santa Fe (12-8) scored seven times in the bottom of the ninth to stun Rio Rancho 9-8. Joel Valdez capped off the comeback with a walk-off grand slam for the Silver Bullets.

Bad luck with the injuries! May I ask what you've got your injury slider at?

I have in-game set at max and simulated games set at 6. I'm using S&Bs slider set, it's given me great results in a few different franchises on this game...I've just been super unlucky with this Nationals team.

Have to say I LOVE reading your franchise reports. The fact you are taking a team that is not a great team, playing the games, no making many unrealistic moves is awesome to read. I see some post about winning 130 games, titles every year and I think. How is that realistic or fun. Yours is a great read. Keep it up. Not sure how many years you plan to run it with 23 around the corner but hope you get to rebuild it into a winner.

Agreed on it being an absolutely awesome follow. I also love that he's going for realism, as that's what tends to keep me involved invested in my franchises...one unrealistic move and, like many others, I look back a month later and regret the heck out of it.

At the same time though (Please note: This isn't me hating, just my thoughts...sometimes it's hard to distinguish on the old internet machine!), I have absolutely no problem with someone who enjoys beating the heck out of every team, creating some sort of unrealistic super-allstar team. I remember (loosely) following a someone on here who had a Tigers franchise a couple of years back, who won some ungodly amount of games (let's say 130-140ish). It was actually quite enjoyable to follow along with, not exactly because of the ridiculous win streaks he'd go on, but more because of the absolute passion that he put into it. The guy legitimately enjoyed it, which (IMO) is huge, considering the boom/bust love/hate that people have for this game (or sports games in general).

I wish more people would feel comfortable posting about their franchise experiences. It's a ton of fun to follow along and see what other folks are doing or seeing in their league.

                                2023 Arizona Diamondbacks 07/21-07/24

Overall Record:69-32 (1st NL West, 7.5 over LA Dodgers)

Reds hand D-Backs first series loss since May

Ahhh baseball. The Arizona Diamondbacks went into the All-Star break thirty-nine games over .500 (68-29) while the Cincinnati Reds reached that same point at .500 exactly (49-49). But that my friends is why baseball is a great sport and at any point in time, a team can get the better of another even if just for one series.

The Reds lineup is a lot different and improved compared to their 2022 squad. The additions of Tim Anderson, Andrew Benintendi, Jesus Aguilar and Kyle Lewis have shaped their offense to what is currently rated by baseball experts as around about the 10th best in the league.

In their first matchup with the defending World Series Champion Arizona Diamondbacks, Cincinnati's offense looked and played like their rankings. In fact, after losing the first three games (5-4, 9-7 and 4-3) Arizona just narrowly escaped what would have been their third series sweep of the season.

Arizona ended up winning game four against the Reds by a score of 4-3 but that win didnt come easy as Cincinnati took a 3-1 lead into the ninth inning. Unfortunately, their bid for the sweep would come up short thanks to their closer, Tejay Antone totally imploding as he tried to get his 28th save of the season. Antone allowed the only three batters he faced to reach base and load the bases as Ketel Marte singled, Carson Kelly was hit by a pitch and David Peralta was walked. Loading the bases was enough to get Antone removed from the game. After that, a Pavin Smith two run single and a Christian Walker sac fly gave Arizona the lead and the eventual win as Edwin Diaz was able to successfully get his 28th save of the season.

Interestingly enough, both Diaz and Antone came into that game with 27 saves and just one blown save each.

Although a near sweep was not ideal, Arizona maintained their lead over LA in the NL West as the Dodgers have also gone 1-3 in their games after the All-Star break.

Arizona will now head back home to end the month of July with two versus Aaron Judge, Carlos Correa and the rest of Minnesota and a four game set with the Colorado Rockies before they start another four game series with those same Dodgers leading into August.
