Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

The Nationals won one of their three games against the Phillies. They were blown out in game one, 8-2. In game two, rookie Cade Cavalli would get the start and go five innings, giving up four runs on eight hits, walking two and striking out three. The numbers don't tell the whole story as he was able to get out of several jams and finished his outting on a strikeout, staying in the game even after hitting two rough spots. The team is very high on him, he is only 19 and already is showing he can have a spot on this rotation. Game three saw Josiah Gray outduel Kyle Gibson, as a Donovan Casey home run in the eighth would be enough to get the Nats a 2-1 victory.

I'm trying to grind out these last two and a half weeks as fast as I can, but I will play every game no matter how exhausting it's been.

The 51-94 Nationals now go home to play their interleague rivals the Orioles (65-79) for two games.

      Blue Jays Franchise: 2023

What a wild and wacky first group of games...Sitting at 8-5 right now, and things have been all over the place.

The team started 6-1, and I personally felt like this was going to be a ridiculously easy run (too easy?), but 3 straight losses (4 out of 5 total), which included a 9-0 drubbing at the hands of the Yankees brought me back to earth pretty quickly.

The good news: We've bounced back with 2 straight very tight wins against the Yankees, 3-2 and 3-1, with excellent pitching performances from Kevin Gausman and Alek Manoah. The bad news? There's a massive hole at the bottom of my rotation, with Mitch White looking exactly like real life Mitch White in his last appearance.

In the bullpen, Jordan Romano, Yimi Garcia, Tim Mayza, Adam Cimber and Eric Swanson have all been very solid. At the other end of the spectrum are Yusei Kikuchi, Anthony Bass, and the recently demoted Zach Pop have all been hit hard.

Lineup-wise, Vlad started the season getting on base a ton, with zero power, but has turned it around and went on a 5 HR in 5 game stretch, to put him 2nd in the league in WAR.

Other solid performances offensively include Daulton Varsho ("meh" average, but high OPS), Bo Bichette, George Springer, Matt Chapman, and the catching combo of Danny Jansen/Alejandro Kirk.

Brandon Belt, Kevin Kiermeier and recently recalled Otto Lopez have all struggled massively on offence.

The biggest issue so far? Hitting with runners in scoring position. The Jays have had no problem getting guys on base, but they haven't been able to consistently bring guys home. This was most prevelent in back to back losses to the Rangers (9-5), and Yankees (9-0), where the team left way too many players on base. In the Yankees game, the Jays had 4 leadoff doubles, and (obviously) scored none.

Biggest question marks? The bottom end of the rotation. Jose Berrios has actually been excellent in his first two starts, allowing only 4 runs through 13 innings, and has controlled the strike zone throughout. The aforementioned White actually played pretty well in his first start of the season against the Rays (5.1 IP, 1 ER), but got absolutely clobbered by the Yankees 6 days later, which, by my evaluation, is more likely the type of player that he's going to be for us. It's such a small sample size so far that it could swing either way, and I'll probably run him out 2-3 more times before making a call on it, but it's definitely a cause for concern right now. When it comes to what I'd be looking for as a trade target, I'm really banking on Ricky Tiedemann being a huge addition in '24, so I think I'm looking for a pitcher on an expiring contract. I plan to hold Hyun Jin Ryu out until July (When he's supposed to be back IRL), but I'm not 100% sure if that's the answer either.

Another issue that I see right now is the lack of platoon partner for a guy like Kiermeier or Varsho. Varsho has been fine (so far) against lefties, but Kiermeier has struggled (but you can absolutely tell the difference defensively when he's on the field), so finding someone else to insert there is probably one of the two big targets for this squad. Whit Merrifield has had plenty of playing time so far, but if I can set myself up with a bit of a stronger lineup when we play lefties, it would be massive.

This sounds like something I would do (and have done before). It's kind of nice to know I'm not the only neurotic one when it comes to franchises.

I haven't played my Braves franchise since before Christmas. I'll get back to it eventually, but I'm starting to get tempted to just stick with it rather than go to 23.

            APRIL 28 - 30: GLENDALE (15-14) @ FLAGSTAFF (22-6)
            Stadium: AutoZone Park (Capacity: 9,577)

            April 28: Desert Dogs 6, Hops 5 (18)
            April 29: Hops 5, Desert Dogs 2
            April 30: Desert Dogs 2, Hops 1

Flagstaff, AZ (AP) - The Glendale Desert Dogs came to Flagstaff and cooled off the red-hot Hops as they took two of three games in the weekend series to end the month of April.

The Desert Dogs won the opener 6-5 in an 18-inning marathon. Cecil Mills solo home run in the top of the 18th sent the visitors home with a victory.

Glendale grabbed a 3-0 lead way back in the third inning on RBI singles from Edward Hampton and Ryan, and an RBI double from Mills.

Flagstaff would get one back in the fourth on a Roberto Geronimo RBI single. He would tie it up in the bottom of the eighth with a two-out, two-run double.

Glendale would go eight straight innings without a hit until the 15th when Edgar Cabrera homered to right off of Oliver Benedict. But the Hops answered on an Arturo Mardones RBI single that scored Roberto Geronimo.

In the 17th inning, Myers hit a ground-rule double, scoring Rowell, to put the Desert Dogs up 5-4. But Art Mason would lead off the bottom half with a solo homer to tie the game at 5-5.

In the 18th, Cecil Mills homered to left off of Sam Varela to put the Dogs up 6-5 and this time they would hold on.

Roberto Geronimo went 5 for 8 with two doubles and three RBIs in the loss. Leandro Lugo went 0 for 9. Art Mason went 2 for 8 with the home run, his seventh. He also struck out four times.

The eighteen innings was the longest game in Hops history. They twice played 17 inning games last year: a 2-1 loss to Austin in April and an 11-10 victory over Rio Rancho in late July.

On Saturday afternoon, the Hops bounced back to record a 5-2 victory over the Desert Dogs. Emmitt Hampton went 2 for 4 with a triple, home run and four RBIs to lead the Hops to their 22nd victory on the season.

Hampton got the Hops going with a solo home run in the fourth inning.

The Desert Dogs would score twice in the top of the sixth on an Edward Hampton two-run home run to take the lead. But Flagstaff responded in the bottom half, scoring twice to retake the lead. A Josh Ortega sacrifice fly and Emmitt Hampton RBI groundout scored the two runs.

The Hops would then put this one away in the eighth on an Emmitt Hampton two-run triple.

Ryan Pressley picked up the win, improving to (4-0). He pitched six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits. He struck out three and walked two. Vic Miller picked up his 10th save as he worked a 1-2-3 ninth.

In the finale, the Desert Dogs scored twice in the top of the ninth off of closer Vic Miller to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 victory. Edgar Cabrera’s RBI double tied it and Alfredo Diaz’s RBI double won it as Glendale moved back over .500.

Starter Juro Yamaguchi pitched a gem for the Hops, tossing 7 2/3 innings and scattering just six hits, while striking out seven and walking only one batter. Oliver Benedict got the last out in the eighth before the Hops turned to closer Vic Miller, who had pitched the previous two days. He allowed a leadoff double to Edward Hampton, then struck out two before surrendering the game tying double to Edgar Cabrera. The Hops then brought on Aldo Osuna and he gave up an RBI double to Alfredo Diaz to give the Desert Dogs the lead.

Flagstaff’s lone run came in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI double from David Benitez.

Shortstop Arturo Mardones left the game in the sixth inning after making a diving stop at short. The injury appeared to be a finger injury on his glove hand. It did not appear to be serious but he will likely miss a few days.

The Hops (22-6) will have Monday off before hosting St. George (13-15) for a short two game mid-week series.

Around the League: Ryne Rodriguez improved to (5-0) and lowered his ERA to 0.81 as he tossed eight innings of shutout baseball, allowing four hits and striking out six as Rio Rancho walloped Santa Fe 17-0.

Mesa star outfield Mike Rexman tore his ACL in today’s game in San Diego and will be lost for the season. Rexman hit .305 with 28 home runs last season for the Solar Sox.

Las Vegas defeated Phoenix 3-2 on Thursday evening dropping the Firebirds to (9-18) on the season. They are (1-12) in their last 13 games.

Jason McKenzie and Juan Feliz each homered twice and drove in five as El Paso defeated Prescott 16-4.

Chandler scored seven runs in the top of the ninth to defeat Goodyear 13-6 and move into first place in the DL East at (18-11).

I actually found my original franchise saved on ps4 cloud so I fired it back up. Starting over doesn’t work for me because I feel I have an advantage because I have an idea of how players will progress. I’m actually glad I found this and will just play this until I decide what to do for ‘23.

                I’ll update shortly

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

Ok I'm in mid-July 2024 with the save file I salvaged of my original franchise. This is a good spot, as it was at this time that I let myself go stupid and let things that I can somewhat control bother me, for whatever reason. I chalk some of that being due to personal matters I was going thru at the time and wanting the game to be "perfect" due to my real world being imperfect. But I digress.

Currently sitting in first place in the NL Central with (51-39) record and 2.5 games lead over the Brewers. Injuries have struck out team, especially pitching staff hard. We have just lost Miles Mikolas for the year and due to us being in the red financially, finding trades or free agent signings to resolve our issues is extremely tricky.

                  Our current lineup:

                  2B- Tommy Edman
                  RF - Dylan Carlson
1B - Kyle Schwarber (traded Jake Odorizzi and prospects for him to the Rays a month ago)
                  3B - Nolan Arenado
LF - Adam Duvall (Tyler O'Neill out for the year)
                  SS - Gio Urshela
                  C - Christian Vasquez
                  CF - Harrison Bader
                  Pitcher Spot

                  Bench:

                  IF - Edmundo Sosa
                  IF - Nolan Gorman
                  OF - Magnerius Sierra
                  OF - Lars Nootbaar
C - Yadier Molina (still hanging on)

                  Rotation:

                  Jack Flaherty
                  Luis Castillo
                  Johan Oviedo (took Mikolas spot)
                  Dakota Hudson
                  Reid Detmers

                  Bullpen:

                  Brusdar Graterol
                  Ryan Helsley
                  Ryan Tepera
                  Zack Thompson (L)
                  Jordan Hicks
                  Alex Reyes
                  Genesis Cabrera (L)
                  Giovanny Gallegos

Hoping we can hang on as we've missed the playoffs in the first two seasons. We fired Oliver Marmol and hired Joe Girardi in the offseason to turn things around. Up until the injury bug struck, we were playing like a team destined for October. Now we're treading water until we figure how to stop the leaks.

We are about to play a 3 game series against the Orioles in Baltimore before a 3 game series with the Brewers in Milwaukee to take us to the All-Star Break. We then play 3 against the Brewers coming out of the break in St.Louis. Huge 6 games.

Astros acquire Trevor Story from the Red Sox

The Astros make the first major trade of the trade season as they acquired Trevor Story from the Red Sox in exchange for a pair of top prospects.

The Astros who just lost Alex Bregman for likely the rest of the season, didn't waste time replacing him as they get Trevor Story from Boston. Bregman is also a free agent at the end of the year, so if they are unable to re-sign him, they are covered.

The Red Sox get C William Takaishii (Top 100 prospect - 20 years old) and LF Richard Gilbert (#47 Prospect - 19 years old) in return. The Red Sox aren't going to the postseason this year, unless they catch fire, but they get a good return as they look to get competitive in the future.

                      Cardinals drop series to Orioles

The Cardinals (52-41) dropped two games of a 3 game series with the Orioles in Baltimore. The Cardinals now lead the Brewers by 1/2 game in the NL Central.

The bats were quiet until Thursday's game where the Cardinals put up 10 runs on 17 hits with 4 homeruns. Prior to that game, the Cards scored 1 run in each of the first two games with a total of 7 hits.

A bright spot is that Johan Oviedo, who was called up to replace Miles Mikolas, went 6.2 innings allowing 2 runs on 5 hits with 3 strikeouts earning the victory.

The Cardinals will now travel to Milwaukee for a big 3 game series as the first half of the season comes to an end.

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

Unfortunately the series did not go our way as the Dodgers came in to Petco Park and took 2 of 3 from us. We were on the verge of getting swept as we were down 3-1 in the bottom of the 9th when Ha-Seong Kim hit a bases loaded walk off triple to win the game 4-3. We then had an off day where we traveld to Cincinatti and the Dodgers began another series dropping game 1 to the Diamondbacks. We currently sit at 16-7 and 2 games behind LA who is now 18-5 after dropping 2 straight.

Xander Bogaerts continues to rake and is sitting at .402 with 4 HRS and 16 RBIs and a slash line of .418/.598/1.015
Ha-Seong Kim continues to develop with the bat and is hitting .309 on the year with 1 HR and 6 RBIs with 3 coming off the walk off last game.

The position we need to figure out is the catching spot as we are getting almost 0 production as Austin Nola is hitting .111 with 2 RBI and Luis Campusano isn't providing much more with a .171 avg with 1 HR and 3 RBI. Alternative options include Pedro Severino in AAA who is hitting .294 with 2 HR and 7 RBI and is almost guaranteed a call up shortly. AA features options of Brandon Valenzuela who is hitting .304 with 2 HR's and 8 RBIS but not on the 40 man roster.

Juan Soto has been both hot and cold this year and after a tough series vs LA has dropped his AVG to .265. He still is tied for NL lead in home runs with 8 with Brewers catcher William Contreras. Teammate Manny Machado is right behind him with 7.

We now begin a what should be easier 8 game road trip as we go to Cincinatti for 3, Pittsburgh for 3 and Cleveland for 2.

                          May 3: Archers 5, Hops 4 (11)

Flagstaff, AZ (AP) - The Flagstaff Hops and St George Archers spilt a short two-game mid-week series to close the home stand. The Hops rallied late in the opener to win and the Archers did the same in the closing game.

The Hops took the opener thanks to the long ball as they hit four home runs and rallied for a 5-4 victory. Josh Ortega led the way, going 2 for 4 with two solo home runs to help pace the offense.

Flagstaff would take a 1-0 lead in the second thanks to an Art Mason sacrifice fly.

The Archers would tie it up in the top of the third on a Harper Reyes solo home run, his first on the season. They would add two in the sixth to go up 3-1 on a Cardona RBI groundout and a Jamaal McCormack RBI single.

Josh Ortega would homer in the bottom half to cut the lead to 3-2. Forrest Owen would hit a solo home run in the seventh to level the game at 3-3. Then in the eighth, Josh Ortega would hit his second home run of the game to put the Hops in front. Robbie Westbrook would add a solo home run of his own to make it 5-3. That insurance run was huge as the Archers would get one back in the top of the ninth on a Harper Reyes RBI double off of the wall in right.

Pedro Macias (3-0), who came on in the eighth, would earn the win as he recorded the final six out.

On Wednesday afternoon the Archers rallied late to pull out a 5-4 victory in 11 innings. Neal Samuels hit two home runs including the game winner in the 11th to help the Archers to the series split.

Flagstaff grabbed the lead 4-2 after seven innings thanks to an Art Mason two-run home run to break a 2-2 tie. The Archers then got solo home runs from Neal Samuels in the eighth and Sam Hager in the ninth to tie the game at 4-4.

That setup Samuels to win it with his second home run of the game in the 11th and help the Archers leave Flagstaff with a sweep.

The Hops (23-7) will now hit the road for a six game trip to New Mexico with three in Roswell (11-19) and three in Rio Rancho (16-15).

Around the League: Chandler’s Carlos Vargas (3-0) tossed a complete game two-hitter and struck out eight as the Chiefs shutout the Salt River Rafters 1-0 to win their 11th game in a row. A Vladimir Bruno solo home run in the top of the eighth was the only scoring in this one. On Wednesday afternoon, the Chiefs completed the sweep of Salt River by a score of 9-2 to run their winning streak to an IBL record 13 straight games.

Las Vegas overcame a ninth inning grand slam from Tommy Brewer with two runs in the bottom of the ninth on a Junior Lima home run to tie it and two in the 15th on a Ryan Clark two-run homer to defeat Mesa 6-4. Lima has a 24-game hitting streak.

Matt Morales improved to (6-0) as he tossed 7.1 innings, allowing one run, in a 10-1 victory for San Diego over Long Beach. Ken Hollinger hit three doubles and drove in four runs as Surprise eased by Roswell 13-2. Jaime Hernandez went 2 for 6 with two home runs, six RBIs and two stolen bases in the win for the Seals.

We've played 6 of 8 games on the roadtrip and have swept both the Cincinatti Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates and with a couple of Dodger losses we have now overtaken first place in the NL West with a record of 22-7. The LA Dodgers are right behind us sitting at 21-7. This race will be neck and neck the entire season.

Fernando Tatis JR is struggling in his first season back with the AVG as he's only hitting .233 at the moment but does have 8 HRs out of the lead off spot. After a red hot series vs the Pirates where Manny Machado hit 5 HR's in the 3 game series, he is now the Major League leader in Home Runs with 13, sitting 2 ahead of teammate Juan Soto and Brewers C William Contreras.

After one whole month, as today's date is May 3rd, the Padres big off-season signing of Xander Bogaerts is STILL sitting above .400 as he leads the majors with a .402 BA with a slash line of .430/.579/.1.009. Xander also has 18 RBIs.

One big surprise so far has been David Dahl. With a struggling combination of Trent Grisham and Adam Engel, the team has moved Fernando Tatis Jr to center and has given Dahl more AB's in the OF. Dahl is now hitting .344 with 3 HR's and 7 RBI in only 32 AB's and is certainly earning more playing time with his impressive start.

Pedro Severino was called up to replace the struggling rookie Luis Campusano however got injured in his second game and is now on the 10 day IL with Campusano having been recalled from AAA El Paso.

Josh Hader is the league leader in saves with 12 and has been nearly unhittable with a 0.00 ERA and 14K's in 13 IP. Steven Wilson has also been a revelation out of the pen with a 1.59 ERA in 17 IP with 17K's. Robert Suarez is justifying his off-season raise with a 2-0 record of the pen and a 1.74 ERA. Drew Pomeranz has bounced back nicely from missing almost all last year with injuries to an ERA of 0.93 and WHIP of 1.03 in 9.2 IP.

Yu Darvish is 5-1 with a 2.77 ERA followed by Joe Musgrove (2-0, 2.04 ERA), Blake Snell (2-2, 3.62), Seth Lugo (3-0, 2.17) and Nick Martinez (2-2, 3.21) to round out the starting rotation.

                              May 5: Hops 5, Aliens 0
                              May 6: Hops 4, Aliens 2 (11)
                              May 7: Aliens 5, Hops 3

Roswell, NM (AP) - Flagstaff opened up a six-game road trip by taking two of three from the Roswell Aliens. The Aliens managed to rally in the finale to avoid a sweep as they sit in last place in the ML Central.

In the opener, Shoe-Lace O’Tying tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just four hits, while striking out seven, as the Hops defeated the Aliens 5-0.

The Hops would take a 1-0 lead in the fifth on a Robbie Westbrook sacrifice fly, scoring Roberto Geronimo. They would add four more in the sixth. Roberto Geronimo lined a two-run single to center, then Arturo Mardones and David Benitez lined RBI singles to make it 5-0.

The Hops had 11 hits but hit into a team record five double plays in the game.

DeSean Gardner (1-3) took the loss for the Aliens. He only went five plus innings, allowing two runs on five hits.

On Saturday evening, the Hops rallied late to tie it and then won in extra innings as they defeated the Aliens 4-2. Emmitt Hampton hit a two-out, solo home run to tie it in the ninth and Josh Ortega hit an RBI double in the 11th to put the Hops in front for good.

Roswell scored runs in the first and second off of Ryan Pressley to take a 2-0 lead, but Pressley settled down and did not allow a run the rest of his outing and only allowed one more hit. He pitched eight innings but was not involved in the decision. Pedro Macias (4-0) came on in the ninth after Hampton tied it and he struck out the side. He then sent down the Aliens in order in the tenth.

In the 11th, Art Mason singled and stole second. He scored on the Josh Ortega double. Robbie Westbrook would then add a big insurance run with an RBI single to score Ortega.

Vic Miller sent down the Aliens in order to earn his 11th save.

Justin Gellman went 3 for 5 with a double, triple and home run in the losing effort for Roswell.

In the finale, the Aliens hit three home runs and pulled out a 5-3 victory to avoid a sweep. Joe Gallagher went 2 for 4 with a home run to help lead the home team to the win.

Oscar Aleman got things going in the top of the first with a solo home run to right, his eighth on the season, off of Adam Hendricks.

The Aliens would get that back on the first pitch in the bottom half as leadoff hitter Howie Saunders blasted one over 400’ down the line in left to tie it up. I Leandro Lugo RBI single in the top of the second put the Hops back in front. But Joe Gallagher got that back in the bottom half with a towering home run to right center to tie the game at 2-2.

It would remain that way until the sixth when Danny Watson hit a two-run home run to right to put the Aliens in front. It was Watson’s third on the campaign and put the Aliens in control. They would get an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly from Hudson.

Flagstaff would get one back in the top of the ninth on an RBI single from Phillip Choi, but it wasn’t enough.

Skyler Lyons went 3 for 4 with three doubles and two runs scored for the Hops.

The Hops (25-8) will now head to Rio Rancho (17-17) for a three game series to wrap up the road trip.

Around the League: Henderson ended Chandler’s 13-game winning streak on Friday night with a 12-2 victory for the Silver Knights. The Silver Knights hit five home runs with Alfonso Pacheco hitting two and driving in four. Rollie Flingers (3-3) tossed a complete game, four-hit shutout as Rio Rancho defeated El Paso 7-0.

Fred Roberts hit two home runs and drove in seven as St. George crushed Albuquerque 11-0.

Colorado Springs (14-21) hit five solo home runs in a 5-3 victory over West Texas. Salt Lake drew ten walks in a 3-2 extra innings walk-off win over Prescott. J.P. Grant’s RBI double in the 12th walked it off for the Chukars.

Las Vegas’ Junior Lima extended his hitting streak to 28 games as he went 1 for 4 in a 12-2 loss for the Nuggets.
