      2022 Boston Red Sox Franchise

Almost through 50 games this season, the Red Sox sit atop the American League East division three games ahead of both the Blue Jays and the Yankees. The Red Sox started off red hot, going 21-8 in the first month of the season, but once May hit, they all of a sudden started to struggle. Boston has proceeded to go 9-8 so far, but have won four of their last five, including two of three against the team with now the second best record in baseball, the Mariners.

Even through their struggles, both the offense and pitching has ranked near the top all season so far, but their defense has cost them, ranking near the bottom of the pack. Xander Bogaerts, Trevor Story, and Rafael Devers are the only real culprits here, as they have 17 of the teams 22 errors. Things have gotten better recently, but it's still been costly to start the season.

There's been plenty of leaders in the hitting department, as the aforementioned Story and Devers lead the team with 15 and 13 home runs respectively, but Story currently sits at the bottom of the average column with a .222 average, though he does lead the team in walks with 22. The best overall offense player however has been rookie outfielder Jarren Duran, who has hit for both average and power, while coming up clutch in big moments, including multiple game-tying and winning RBI's.

Now, onto the pitching, where Red Sox currently house one of the best current starters in the league, Cy Young hopeful Tanner Houck. While he doesn't lead any major categories, he does rank near the top of them, currently sporting a 5-0 record with a 1.50 ERA and a 0.77 WHIP through 60 innings. Houck, in his nine starts this season, has given up more than two runs just once, and thrown three scoreless outings as well.

The bullpen has been huge for the Red Sox, sporting a 1.83 ERA through 128 innings, led by long relief option Michael Wacha current closer Garrett Whitlock. Wacha has thrown 26.1 innings of 2.73 relief, but was just moved to the rotation a couple of days ago to replace Nathan Eovaldi who was demoted to the bullpen after struggling to the tune of a 5.02 ERA in nine starts. Whitlock leads the team in saves with 12, but the team is reportedly considering him in a long relief role or giving him a rotation spot should anyone else struggle.

      SOX PROSPECT HYPE:

      - Triston Casas, AAA (.260/.367/.377, 3 HR, 20 RBI, 22 R)
Triston Casas started off the season a little slow, struggling to raise his average above the Mendoza line, but has obviously figured things out there, now it's time to get the power going, and if he does that, he may find himself swing for the Green Monster at Fenway Park.

      - Blaze Jordan, AA (.321/.387/.514, 7 HR, 22 RBI, 21 R)
Blaze Jordan may only be 19 years old, but is on the fast track to the major leagues, and it's no question as to why. Jordan has demolished Double-A pitching, sitting in second place in home runs and near the top in average and on-base percentage.

      - Jay Groome, AA (8 GS, 3-2, 42.1 IP, 1.70 ERA, 57 K, 16 BB)
Former first round pick and top prospect Jay Groome has seen his stock drop quite a bit since he was drafted way back in 2016, but it looks as though it could be on the way back up. Groome lost almost two full seasons to Tommy John Surgery 2018 and 2019, but seems to have made a full recovery and in fact seems to have rediscovered himself. Groome has been nothing short of stellar in Double-A, currently sitting in first and second place in strikeouts and ERA respectively.

      CATCHING UP:

      - Red Sox acquire OF Jake Cave from the Twins for INF Cameron Cannon.

      - Red Sox acquire RP Norge Ruiz from the Athletics for INF Jonathan Arauz.

      - Rangers acquire OF Steven Duggar from the Giants for OF Willie Calhoun.

      - Red Sox sign INF Anderson Tejeda to a minor league contract.

      - Red Sox sign 1B Ryan McBroom to a minor league contract.

      - Nationals sign C Wilson Ramos to a minor league contract.

Tigers sweep Royals, their first of the season

I had to comb the entire schedule to confirm it but yes this was our first series sweep of the year, 2-0, 4-3 & 4-3.

Tigers (60-79) remain in last place in the AL Central, 15.0 GB, but are 6-1 in their last 7.

SP Ty Madden (0-1, 2.40) has now made three starts to begin his MLB career and has posted a 0.93 WHIP and allowed just 4 earned runs in 15.0 IP.
          Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.

            Twins Swept by Angels

The Minnesota Twins ended their five-game Los Angeles road trip with a 1-4 record following a defeating sweep from the Angels. The Twins are now 11 1/2 games back of the red-hot White Sox, as they are starting to pull away from the rest of the division. The season is just about done. No highlights to share other than two of the games ended with walk-off homers from the Angels.

Cardinals win series against Rockies in Colorado

The Cardinals (14-5) continue their streak of winning series, as they take 2 games of a 3 game series against the Rockies in Colorado.

The Cardinals won the bookend games of the series with good offense and decent pitching. Gio Urshela continues to swing a hot bat earning 6 hits in the series. The bullpen continues to have weak points in areas especially Genesis Cabrera and Ryan Helsley, two pitchers the Cardinals relied upon heavily last year.

The Cardinals will return home for a 3 game weekend series with the Brewers.

10-9 in my Cardinals franchise, after a 5-game winning streak. My last game was crazy, as I earned 18 walks. I've never done anything remotely close to that before. Playing on HOF with Armor & Swords sliders. I love how many different ways you can win a game.

                  Yankees All Star Break Update

Closing out the first half by taking 2 of 3 from the Red Sox, we’ve finally made it to the All Star Break at 69-29.

                  Yankees News:

Yankees No Hit By Chris Sale In Game 1
Game 1 was a clunker, with Boston coasting to a 12-0 victory as their ace Chris Sale mowed down the Yankee Lineup.

Stanton, Judge, Chapman, Headed To All Star Game. Benintendi And Donaldson To Serve As Reserves.

Stanton Ends First Half With 48 HR’s
It was an insane First Half for Stanton, as he bashed homeruns at an overwhelming rate. If he stays healthy, the record is certainly within his reach.

                  MLB News:

Cardinals Selling, Ship CP Gallegos To Jays, OF Carlson To Red Sox
7.5 games out of the Central, and 9 games out of the WC race, St Louis has determined their path. Gallegos heads up North in exchange for prospects C Alejandro Kirk, SS Miguel Hiraldo, and SP Irv Carter. Dylan Carlson goes to Boston for prospects 3B Tristan Casas and SP Brandon Walter.

                  Cardinals Future Looks Promising
With just a few trades, the Cards seem to be positioned well to pull off a brief reset. The heir to Molina is now in house, with an MLB ready Kirk. Casas is almost MLB ready himself, and ranks higher than Gorman. They may also have their SS of the future in Hiraldo.

Seattle Leads AL West At 65-33
With the first half over, the Mariners already sit in prime position to finally return to October, leading over the Astros by 9 games. Seattle has yet to make a move, and they can really play this either way. They can bet on what they have and play it safe as their window is just opening, or be aggressive and go for it now.

Cardinals swept by Brewers in St.Louis

The Cardinals (14-8) saw their consecutive series win streak come to a crashing halt as they were swept by the Brewers in St.Louis over the weekend.

The Cardinals offense was stagnant the first two games of the series they were shutout both games (9-0 & 5-0). On Sunday they put up 4 runs and were leading until the bullpen blew up again and lost 5-4.

The Cardinals will remain at home as they welcome the Rockies into town for a 3 game series.

Cardinals activate Edmundo Sosa from IL

The Cardinals have activated SS/IF Edmundo Sosa from the 10 Day IL. Sosa was on the shelf with a finger injury. He was hitting over .400 in limited at bats before his injury. Nick Dunn was optioned back to Memphis in a corresponding move.

Cardinals take series against Rockies in St.Louis

The Cardinals (16-9) bounced back after being swept by the Brewers to win their series against the Rockies in St.Louis. The Cardinals are now a game up in the Central Division over the surprising Pirates.

The Cardinals won bookend games again just like they did a week ago in Colorado. The Cardinals won the series opener in dramatic fashion scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the 9th, capped off by a Harrison Bader walk-off grand slam, for the win.

                      <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/kf8QQQh2e-Q" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

On Thursday afternoon they won late again this time putting up 5 runs in the bottom of the 8th to win 5-2.

Giovanny Gallegos earned his NL tying 9th save of the season this series and Nolan Arenado broke out of his mini slump hitting a homerun and driving in 4 runs while accumulating 5 hits in the series.

The Cardinals will now travel west for a 3 game series with the Giants this weekend before flying back to Chicago for a 3 game series with the Cubs as the month of April comes to a close.

Mets RP Chasen Shreve exits game three in San Diego with injury. Out 1-2 months.

Yet another tough blow for the Mets as lefty RP Shreve lands on the IL this time. Shreve has appeared in 29 games this season, sporting a solid 3.71era with 17k and only 3 walks issued.

Joely Rodriguez has been a great surprise as another lefty in the bullpen, but now the #1 lefty reliever we shall see how he handles the pressure.

The media immediately assumed RP Trevor May would be called back up to the club. He was recently sent down as Curtiss returned from the IL after having a really bad season in the majors thus far. He has appeared in 6 games in AAA with a good start there.

However management decided they like having two lefties in the bullpen if possible, therefore they have recalled RP Alex Claudio. The lefty thus far in triple-A has appeared in 15 games with 13k 6bb and a 3.86era. He doesn't throw hard like your nowadays RP, but instead relies on inducing groundballs with his sinker/changeup combination. He has a slider as well and a 4 seam fastball topping out at only around 86mph.

Pete Alonso is due back very soon finally as we approach mid June, and it's looking like a return for at least half of the 4 game set at home vs the Marlins.

Cardinals sweep Giants in San Francisco

The Cardinals (19-9) swept the Giants in a 3 game weekend series as they lead the NL Central by a single game over the Pirates still, who performed a weekend sweep themselves.

Jack Flaherty earned just his 2nd win of the season (2-0) despite having one of the best ERA's in the majors at 1.06. He did so by earning a complete game shutout, where he gave up 3 hits and struck out 11.

Luis Castillo was strong as well although he didn't get the win as the bullpen continues to have struggles, but Castillo did have a quality start of 7.2 innings with 8 strikeouts giving up 2 earned on 5 hits.

Miles Mikolas got the victory on Sunday despite him struggling for the 2nd straight start. Mikolas went 6 innings giving up 4 runs on 6 hits and 2 great defensive plays (Bader and Edman) kept the stat line from being worse.

Offensively the Cardinals are still being led by Gio Urshela's great hitting and Edmundo Sosa. Dylan Carlson went into a bit of a funk this series earning just 1 hit in 11 at bats seeing his average dip below .300.

The Cardinals are off on Monday as they fly to Chicago for a 3 game series with the Cubs to close out April

The Diamondbacks still have a good lead in the division as they head into another tough series with four against San Diego and afterwards, another three against LA.

                              NL homerun race:
                              Tatis JR-43
                              Marte-38
