☆☆Mets RP John Curtiss returns off the IL after an early season injury.☆☆

Curtiss only appeared in 5 games this season. The injury gave way for Joely Rodriguez to be called up at the time. Well, the lefty has made 18 appearances and has a terrific 1.47era, 2-1 record and allowing only 15 hits against. Control is a slight issue with 5 walks and only 9 strikeouts this season. However his reliability vs lefties and overall will keep him in the majors. Having another LHP to go with Shreve is much needed.

The unfortunate news came for 32 year old RP Trevor May, who will be sent down to AAA instead. May has appeared in 19 games. 1-1 record with a whopping 6.63era. Has given up 5 homeruns on 27 hits and given up 14 earned runs.

Always difficult to decide what to do when a player returns from injury and his replacement is performing extremely well. Kinda lucky that Trevor May is struggling so much thus far.

          2022 Arizona Diamondbacks 08/26-08/28

Overall Record: 81-50 (1st NL West, 3.5 over SD Padres)

White Sox humble Diamondbacks, take two of three.

The Diamondbacks have had a phenomenal month of August. The series loss against the White Sox was just the second of the month and the first since the very first series of August.

Game one started off well enough for Arizona as they led 6-3 after the third inning. That lead would even increase by the end of the sixth 8-4. But the Arizona bullpen gave up four runs in between the eighth and ninth inning, including three solo HR's in the eighth (Leury Garcia, Austin Meadows and Jose Abreu) which brought the score to a tie of 8-8 and the run in the 9th allowed Chicago to walk it off, 9-8.

Game two saw Zach Davies return from the injured list. Unfortunately his return was not a pretty one with Chicago winning by a final score of 7-1.

Arizona was able to salvage game three with a 4-2 victory thanks to another solid outing for Zac Gallen and three RBI's by David Peralta.

Arizona will close out the month of August with a three game series against the NL East leading Philadelphia Phillies (74-58).

Jordan Walker's first hit as a part of the Cardinals is a RBI double that brought home the go ahead/winning run in the bottom of the 8th of a Spring Training game against the Marlins.

                  2022 Arizona Diamondbacks 08/29-08/31

Overall Record:84-50 (1st NL West 4.5 over SD Padres)

D-Backs end August with sweep of Phillies

The Arizona Diamondbacks swept the Philadelphia Phillies in the last series of August. The sweep brought Arizona's record to 20-8 for the second to last month of the regular season.

Although a sweep was the end result, it was not easy to obtain as Arizona faced the first place team of the NL East. Philadelphia started each game with a home run in the first inning. In game one, Jean Segura hit the first pitch over the right field wall, game two saw a first inning three run shot from Bryce Harper and game three had a first inning solo shot for Kyle Scwarber.

Still with the early success, Arizona was able to win all three games with scores of 6-3,8-7 (extra innings victory) and 3-2.

Arizona will start the final full month of the season with a four game series Vs. the NL Central leading Milwaukee Brewers (83-51). The series will be the third in a row against a division leading opponent.

For September call ups, Arizona brought 22 year old SS Geraldo Perdomo and 21 year old CF Corbin Carroll to the big league club. Perdomo started the year on the MLB team but was sent down to Reno after he wasnt able to get adequate playing time in Arizona. Carroll got called up to triple A later in the season and thus far has a .307 AVG and 10 RBI's in 22 games in Reno.

Cardinals finish Spring with 13-14 record

The Cardinals have concluded with a 13-14 record as they now turn their focus to the regular season. The Cardinals learned a lot about their team, and its depth during Spring Training and have a very optimistic outlook for the season.

It was nice having Nolan Arenado and Harrison Bader back in the lineup and healthy. Both had good springs with Arenado hitting 8 homeruns this spring and Bader earning a .400+ on base percentage.

Pitching depth was on display as the Cardinals now have 9 arms they feel extremely comfortable handing the ball to at the start of any game. They have more depth in the bullpen so the confidence is high that they can continue to close out games and keep in games with the arms available.

The lineup is fairly solid 1 thru 8 with Tommy Edman showing glimpses of his old self in the Spring. The one concern is first base after Anthony Rizzo didn't re-sign and not having anyone in the minors capable of playing everyday. For now, its expected that newly acquired Adam Duvall will handle the first base duties. It could also be turned to Gio Urshela if the Cards feel the need to get Nolan Gorman's bat in the lineup, but he struggled badly this Spring and was injured part of the spring, so while he will likely be on the 26 man opening day roster, its likely he'll be a platoon player at start.

The Cardinals will open the 2024 season at home against the Pirates.

                      Welcome to the 2024 season.

Sellers at the deadline, the Tigers have very little to play for, mostly just waiting for September call-ups; approaching most games with a carefree attitude, much like spring ball, where the main objective is to play strategically- and fundamentally sound, put guys in positions to succeed, and if we win, fine, if we don't, fine.

Speaking of Alex Lange, I thought it was interesting he's shut down at 35.0 IP, and last year he finished with 35.2. Comparing the two seasons: I allowed 3 fewer hits (37v34), 1 fewer run (17v18), 1 more earned run (17v16), walked 3 fewer (13v16), and struck out 8 fewer (39v31). My WHIP was 1.34, his last year was 1.49.

Just thought it was cool to see them line up like that. Alex Lange is a D-potential, 62 OVR player.

                          Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.

Cardinals take opening series against Pirates in St.Louis

The Cardinals (2-1) got the season started off on the right foot by winning the opening series of the 2024 season by winning 2 games of a 3 game series against the Pirates in St.Louis.

Jack Flaherty was masterful in his first start after landing a big time contract this past winter. Flaherty would go 7 innings allowing zero runs on 1 hit and strike out 7. The bullpen did its job in relief as Genesis Cabrera would strike out the side in the 8th and Giovanny Gallegos would earn save number 1 retiring the side in order in the 9th. The Cardinals only put up one run on the day and that was off the bat of Dylan Carlson who hit a RBI triple in the 5th driving in Harrison Bader.

Luis Castillo got the ball in game 2 on Saturday afternoon for his Cardinals debut in front of the home fans. And it did not go well. Castillo was only able to get thru 4.2 innings surrendering 6 runs on 5 hits, including 3 homeruns, while walking 4 against just 2 strikeouts. The Cardinals bats tried to keep them in the game, but the bullpen was ineffective this day as Kwang Hyun Kim and Genesis Cabrera would combine to give up 6 runs on 6 hits. The offense was led again by Dylan Carlson who delivered 3 RBI's on the day including a solo homerun.

Sunday's finale saw Miles Mikolas get the ball and he was great thru 6 innings of work. Mikolas earned the victory after giving up zero runs on 5 scattered hits. He struck out 4 and walked 2. Nolan Arenado earned his first hit of the season a 2 run homerun in the 1st inning, this after Adam Duvall drove in Tommy Edman on a RBI single. The 3 runs in the first is all the Cardinals would get, but need, in this game.

The Cardinals remain home as the Reds come to town for a 3 game series starting Monday. Jake Odorizzi will make his Cardinals debut as Monday night's starter.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
