Cardinals take series against Reds in Cincinnati

The Cardinals (47-40) took 2 games of a 3 game series against the Reds at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati to start the week. The Cardinals find themselves 7 games behind the Brewers, who have won 11 straight games. The Cards are 2 games out of the wildcard.

The Cardinals would lose the series opener as Adam Wainwright was good but the bats were silent. The Reds would get a late homerun by Mike Moustakas to propel them to a 4-2 victory.

Tuesday night saw Jack Flaherty exit in the 2nd inning with an abdominal strain. The bullpen though rallied and was terrific in earning the win as Ryan Helsley went 3 innings and earned the victory. The Cards would win 5-3 as Anthony Rizzo provided the offense with 3 RBIs

The Cardinals won on Wednesday despite Robbie Ray's poor execution on the mound. He reverted back to the Ray we've seen more often than not getting knocked around on a day where the team needed him to pitch deep due to the bullpen being taxed due to Flaherty's early exit the night before. Ray would be forced thru 5 innings giving up 4 runs on 8 hits with 4 walks. But in the 7th, the Cardinals bats exploded for 7 runs, turning a 5-2 deficit into a 9-5 lead and ultimately a win.

The Cardinals will now travel cross country for a 4 game series with the NL West leading Colorado Rockies.

        Cardinals sweep Rockies in Colorado

The Cardinals (51-40) swept a 4 game series against the NL West leading Rockies in Colorado over the weekend. The Cardinals find themselves now just 4 games back of the Brewers and tied in the wildcard race.

The Cardinals bats used the mile high air to wake up hitting a whopping 14 homeruns in the series and scoring 34 total runs. Pitching struggled at times, but got key outs when needed.

Sorry had a big write up for deleted it by accident and don't want to type it out again.

Cardinals will now be off on Monday as they head home to welcome the Blue Jays to town for a 2 game series before hosting the Marlins for a 4 game weekend series that will end the first half of the season.

The Cardinals (52-41) split their mini 2 game series with the Blue Jays to begin the final week before the All-Star Break. The Cardinals are still 4 games behind the Brewers in the NL Central but are now tied with the Dodgers for the 2nd wild card spot.

Robbie Ray pitched Tuesday night and once again was knocked around. Ray again struggled thru 5 innings giving up 6 runs on 7 hits with 3 walks. It is becoming a growing concern within the organization and front office that Ray is struggling and frustrated, the latter which may be effecting the play of his teammates.

Wednesday say Miles Mikolas get the ball and he earned his 9th win of the season as he gave up 2 runs in the first on a George Springer homerun, but settled in to get thru 6 innings and earn the win. Tyler O'Neill and Magnerius Sierra each provided homeruns to help the Cards to the 7-3 victory.

The Cardinals will now welcome the Marlins to town for a 4 game weekend series that will conclude the first half of the season.

American League defeats National League in 2023 All-Star Game

The American League won this years All-Star game 5-1 over the National League at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. The AL got it started early when Aaron Judge blasted a 3 run homerun in the 1st inning off of Corbin Burnes. The AL would add 2 more runs, one in the 4th on a Myles Straw RBI single and again in the 6th on a Salvador Perez homerun. The NL's lone run came off the bat of Ozzie Albies with a solo homerun in the 5th.

Let the fire sale begin! The Twins dropped two of three over the weekend to the Detroit Tigers, and their season is pretty much over. Now the only question to be answered, who will be moved before the deadline?

Twins Swap MLB Relievers with Sox

In a rare inter-division trade, the Twins sent right-handed reliever Joe Smith to the Chicago White Sox for right-hander Kyle Crick. Smith, 38, could help solidify the Sox middle bullpen as he has a 3.61 ERA over 42.1 innings this year. Crick, 29, has one more year of team-control after this year, but has struggled for Chicago to a tune of a 6.18 ERA over 43.2 innings.

Cardinals take series against Mets in Queens

The Cardinals (55-45) got the second half of the season underway on the right foot taking 2 games of a 3 game series against the Mets in New York. The Cardinals now are 3 games behind the Brewers in the NL Central and a half a game behind the Dodgers for the 2nd wild card.

The Cardinals could've had the sweep if not for bullpen meltdown on Friday night where Anthony Bass again was roughed up out of the pen and Jordan Hicks would give up the go ahead/game winning homerun in the 8th to Sterling Marte. Saturday the bullpen blew it again as Gallegos blew just his 2nd save of the season, but thankfully the Cards won in 11 innings thanks to Anthony Rizzo's RBI double with 2 outs. Sunday saw Adam Wainwright struggle but the bullpen this time would hang on as Gallegos bounced back and earned the save.

The Cardinals will head home for a brief 2 game series with the Brewers on Monday before travelling to San Diego for a 4 game weekend series that will conclude the month of July.

                        Cardinals outright Anthony Bass

The Cardinals have outrighted RHP Anthony Bass. The move has been in the making as the last few weeks/month, Bass has been getting hit hard out of the bullpen. The 35 year old was a key piece in the bullpen in 2022 as well as this year up until the past month or so. If Bass goes unclaimed on waivers, its likely the Cardinals will just outright release him into free agency.

RHP Trevor Richards was recalled from Memphis to take the spot in the bullpen.

Cardinals swept by Brewers in 2 game series

The Cardinals (55-47) were swept in a mini 2 game series against the Brewers to start the week and now find themselves 5 games behind the Brew Crew in the NL Central. They are 2 games behind the Dodgers in the NL Wildcard.

Corbin Burnes shut down the Cardinals bats in the series opener on Monday night. The Cardinals managed 1 run in a 3-1 loss. Jack Flaherty got the ball for the first time since returning from the IL with an abdominal strain. He was his dominant self but was good, just couldn't get any run support.

Tuesday saw Robbie Ray once again get roughed up. He lasted 4 innings as the Brewers absolutely blew out the Cardinals 15-4. Ray went 4 innings giving up 9 runs on 7 hits and issued 4 free passes. The patience is starting to grow very thin with Ray as he continues to be a liability in the rotation.

The Cardinals are off on Wednesday as they travel to San Diego for a 4 game weekend series with the Padres. This series is the last before the trade deadline and will likely decide how the Cardinals approach the upcoming trade deadline.

                                2022 Arizona Diamondbacks 08/19-08/21

Overall Record:78-48 (1st NL West, 5.0 over Dodgers

Diamondbacks continue hot streak, take two of three over St. Louis

The first game and a half of this series was dominated by St. Louis. The Cardinals won the first game 9-4 after getting out to an initial lead of 7-0 after 5.5 innings. former Diamondback Paul Goldschmidt destroyed Arizona pitching en route to a 4-5 game which included a HR and a double.

Game two started off just as bad and in fact worse as St. Louis had the early, big lead. In that second game, the Cardinals led 9-1 after just the third inning. Merrill Kelly was roughed up early and often as he lasted just 2.1 innings while he gave up 9 hits and 8 runs. His relief, Keona Kela wasnt much better with his 2.2 IP, 6 hits and 2 runs.

Arizona's will to fight didnt faulter however as the remaining pitchers allowed just four more hits and just one run. That one run was in extra innings when St. Louis' ghost runner scored.

The offensive comeback started in the fourth with two runs and continued on through the tenth inning when Arizona was able to win the game after scoring two in the extra frame while St. Louis only managed to score their ghost runner. The final score was 12-11 with St. Louis getting 19 hits and Arizona getting 18.

Game three saw Arizona carry their game two momentum over with a 8-2 victory.

After the short three game homestand, Arizona heads back onto the road for a short two game series against the Kansas City Royals (56-71).

*note* Royals Catcher Salvador Perez is the first and only player who has reached 40 HR and 100 RBI's at this point in the season.
