    Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

    I've had a busy week so I'm just now getting around to updating the latest series I played
    The Braves lose a series against the San Diego Padres
    Game 1: L
    Not much going for the Braves in this one until the 6th when Eddie Rosario hit an RBI allowing Swanson to score a run. It didn't take the Padres long to tie it back up when Mazara homered to center 413 feet. In the 8th, the Padres would add to their score with Grisham hitting a triple and allowing Hosmer to score. Then, in the next AB Voit would hit a grounder allowing Grisham to score. Padres 3 Braves 1. Luke Jackson takes the loss

    Game 2: L
    Chadwick Tromp is added to the lineup for the first time in a few weeks and proves himself by hitting a home run in the 3rd. However, the Padres would take the lead in the 4th when Mazara doubled allowing Machado to score and then Lamet would hit an RBI single allowing Mazara to score. The Braves tied it back up in the 6th when Oslon would homer to right 369 feet. Will Myers took care of that 2-2 score in the 8th when he hit a grand slam allowing Tatis Jr., Voit, and Machado to score. In the bottom of the 8th Gonzalez would partially bring the Braves back by hitting a 3RBI double allowing Ozuna, Albies, and Swanson to score. This made the score 6-5, Padres. The Padres would extend that lead in the 9th, Tatis Jr. hits an RBI double allowing Cronenworth to score. Machado then hits a home run allowing Voit to score. Final Score, Padres 9 Braves 5

    Game 3: W
    Maybe my favorite game so far this year. First of all, William Woods would make his MLB debut, taking place of Kyle Mueller who's out with a hand injury. The Braves want to avoid a sweep and Woods is doing a great job of keeping the Padres at bay. No score until the 5th when Acuna would hit an RBI single allowing Arcia to score. In the next AB, Olson hit a 2 RBI double allowing Swanson and Acuna to score, Braves 3-0. In the 6th, Cronenworth would close the gap hitting a solo home run. Braves 3 Padres 1. In the bottom of the 6th, Duvall would hit an RBI single allowing Rosario to score. Braves 4, Padres 1. Top of the 7th, Carlson hits a 2 run HR 401 feet allowing Mazara to score. Braves 4, Padres 3.
    9th inning, 4-3, The Padres score 3 runs on 3 RBIs. Tatis Jr. line to the left for a single. Hosmer scores. Grisham advances to 3rd. Voit lined to right for a single. Grisham scores. Tatis Jr. advances to 3rd. Profar sacrificed to Arcia. Tatis Jr. Scores. Crushing to the Braves to lead the whole game to lose the lead in the 9th, Padres 6 Braves 4.

    Then, bottom of the 9th, Acuna steps out to immediately hit a home run 387 feet to make the score 6-5. Olson, in the next AB, gets on first as a result of an error. Next AB, Riley walked. Rosario strikes out. 1 out Riley on first, Olson on 2nd. Duvall is walked. 1 out, Olson on 3rd, Riley on 2nd, Duvall on 1st. d'Arnaud walked. Olson scores. That makes the game 6-6. Alex Dickerson would pinch hit for Matzek. He hits a walk off RBI single allowing Riley to score and for the Braves to take the game 7-6 and avoid the sweep. Sean Newcomb picks up the win. William Woods would have an impressive debut and Acuna would be player of the game going 3 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 runs.

    Not sure when I'll update again. I'll be busy with some stuff over the next few weeks but I could update as early as Monday as I'm off that day and might get in a game or so. Braves still 1st in NL East (26-14)
    NCAA: Kentucky Wildcats
    MLB: Atlanta Braves
    NBA: San Antonio Spurs

      Well I did it, finished al 162 games! 4th time ever, once with MVP 05 and now three times with The Show. Played every inning, hit on All Star and pitched on HOF. Mostly default sliders with minor tweaks. Things I noticed is I hit into the most double plays (not even close) and let up a bunch of Hrs. Use 30 team control because I don't like injuries, made a couple trades to get Bogaerts and Bednar. Gave up Adell and Duffy plus prospects for both.

      Threw a combined no hitter in July agains the A's. Marsh didn't hit a HR all year until second to last game I hit 2 in one game! At one point had a 10 game win streak and also at one point lost 7 games in a row. Dodgers won 110 games and TOR won 101 games. Josh Donaldson hit 48 HRs and Cole had ERA of 1.96!

      Team Stats

      AVG: .290 (1st)
      ERA: 3.38 (5th)

      Finished 104-58

      Marsh: .324 2 HR 43 RBI 26 SB
      Trout: .350 43 HR 108 RBI 27 SB
      Ohtani: .302 48 HR 115 RBI 17 SB
      Rendon: .296 26 HR 95 RBI
      Walsh: .274 32 HR 81 RBI
      Ward: .293 17 HR 60 RBI
      Bogaerts: .284 25 HR 78 RBI
      Stassi: .245 17 HR 58 RBI
      Fletcher: .296 2 HR 48 RBI

      Pitching:
      Ohtani: 18-6 2.18 ERA 235 SO
      Syndergaard: 13-6 3.22 162 SO
      Sandoval: 16-7 3.38 ERA 119 SO
      Lorenzen: 15-4 2.95 ERA 117 SO
      Detmers: 7-9 4.79 ERA 78 SO
      Suarez: 6-6 4.46 ERA 85 SO

      Tepera: 101 SO 1.41 ERA
      Bednar: 4.19 ERA
      Bradley: 3.41 ERA
      Loup: 4.78 ERA
      Iglesias: 56 SV 101 SO 1.13 ERA
      Other bullpen arms were above 4 ERA

      Now I await playoff matchups.

        Castro, Meadows named to All-Star team, small bright spot in otherwise dismal first half

        July 18, 2022
        AS+ pitching and hitting
        No simming, all stats user'd, user fielding

        RECORD: 44-54
        Run differential: -56
        Team BA: .224 (30th)
        Team ERA: 4.02 (25th)
        Home: 18-27
        Away: 26-27

        Absolute slog. My God.

        Notable team stats (MLB rank):

        GIDP: 63 (26th)
        OBP: .300 (27th)
        SLG: .372 (24th)
        Strikeouts: 826 (30th)
        Base on Balls: 296 (T-20th)
        Home Runs: 99 (T-18th)

        Blown Saves: 18 (30th)
        Errors: 28 (T-1st) don't like this, may crank error slider for a while and see what happens
        Strikeouts: 661 (23rd)
        BB Allowed: 191 (1st) don't like this either, see note below
        HR Allowed: 101 (T-9th)
        Hits Allowed: 890 (30th)

        NOTE: that combo of being 1st in walks allowed but last in hits allowed, meshing into a very legit 4.02 ERA; smells a lot like the game telling me I'm pitching to contact way too often.

        * * *

        June was absurd. So get this: I beat MIN three in a row to end May, then beat the mf'n Yankees in their crib 13-1 on June 3rd, and again on June 4, 3-2. This five-game winning streak was my longest of the year.

        Now watch the wheels fall off:

        @NYY: L 3-2
        @PIT: L 4-3
        @PIT: L 4-2
        TOR: L 5-4
        TOR: L 7-3
        TOR: L 7-3
        CWS: L 3-2
        CWS: L 13-0

        This was my longest losing streak of the year and when I began laughing at myself about how I thought pitching was too easy earlier in the year.

        I sneak in some wins here and there but June also featured such noteworthy gems as:

        TEX: L 15-5
        TEX: L 9-2
        @BOS: L 14-3

        Which brings us to July, where I run into a KC ballclub that is as hot as the friggin sun and they wipe the floor with me 5-0, 15-7 & 10-2.

        Utter dejection starting to set in, but just as it does, the rest of July unfolds:

        CLE: W 8-2
        CLE: L 5-2
        CLE: W 6-2

        @CWS: L 3-2
        @CWS: W 10-6
        @CWS: W 2-1
        @CWS: L 0-2

        @KC: L 4-3
        @KC: W 10-9
        @KC: W 7-4

        @CLE: W 6-5
        @CLE: W 4-2
        @CLE: L 4-3

        This game just really knows how to egg you along, doesn't it. 8-5 in my last 13 heading into the break.

        Austin Meadows hitting .293 with 22 HR and 61 RBI, absolute monster. Had like three bad weeks but otherwise just freaking amazing.

        Cannot say the same about anyone else. For everyone else it's like they all had maybe one good week and the rest is nightmarish.

        Torkelson: .145 (166 AB)
        Haase: .173 (127 AB)
        Barnhardt: .186 (215 AB)
        Schoop: .210 (300 AB)
        Baez: .212 (288 AB)
        Miggy: .213 (239 AB)

        You get the idea. Slog city.

        HAVE YOU SEEN THIS TEAM PLAY IRL BTW???? HOLY GOD. SHUTOUT AGAIN TONIGHT.

        * * *

        I should add that it was 3B Harold Castro and not SS Willie Castro who made the AS team, but both are having nice seasons, hitting .311 and .268 respectively. RF Riley Greene has also played well worth mentioning, as has C Jake Rogers. But Jake is hitting .238 with 8 HR, so I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel at this point looking for what constitutes "playing well."

        Will update again if I can make a pennant push, otherwise will just wait till end of season. Thanks for reading.

          Cardinals take series against Giants

          The Cardinals (24-22) took 3 games of a 4 game series against the Giants in St.Louis over the weekend. The Cardinals are now 3 games back of the Cubs in the NL Central Division.

          For the first time this season the Cardinals bats showed up in every game of the series. The Cardinals lone loss was a bullpen blowup on Saturday. But outside of that pitching did enough and hitting did its share to help the Cards earn their second straight series win.

          The Cardinals will now travel to Chicago for a 4 game series against the first place Cubs in Wrigley Field

              AAAGGGHHH!

              Bottom 9 against the Phillies tied at 5. Acuna at the plate with Swanson at second and one out. Acuna just needs a double for the cycle. He drives a 1-0 pitch into the left-field corner ... he's going to get it! But because Swanson touches home before Acuna gets to second, it's a game-winning single.

              So close!

                Wow that sucks! I've never pitched a no hitter but my biggest achievement was hitting for the cycle with Bryce Harper on this game years back when he was with Washington. I've never come close since.

                  Cardinals recall Tommy Edman from Memphis

                  The Cardinals have recalled 2B/UT Tommy Edman from Memphis. Edman was originally going to stay until June 1st, but the Cardinals decided that about 10 days was good enough and with them wanting to send Lars Nootbaar down to get everyday swings, this was the opportunity.

                  Edman was hitting .314 with 4 RBI's in Memphis. He will not return to 2nd base though as Nick Dunn has proclaimed that spot for now hitting over .350 with a OBP of near .500 at the top of the lineup. Dunn will move to centerfield for the time being and hit 8th in the lineup.

                  As mentioned Lars Nootbaar was optioned to Memphis to play everyday in left field after Nick Plummer was placed on the IL with a hamstring injury.

                    Cardinals take series against Cubs in Chicago

                    The Cardinals (27-23) won 3 games of a 4 game series against the Cubs at Wrigley Field in Chicago. The Cardinals have won back to back series and 8 of their last 10. They have moved to within 2 games of the Brewers in the NL Central.

                    The Cardinals offense continues to roll along with Nick Dunn and Nolan Gorman in the everyday lineup. Dunn continues to set the table at the top of the lineup and Gorman is starting to showcase his pop as he hit 2 homeruns and had 4 doubles in the series. Tommy Edman even contributed down in the 8th spot as he reached base in both games played and delivered 3 hits.

                    Pitching continues to be a struggle as Robbie Ray got touched up in the lone loss of the series and Miles Mikolas needed the bullpen and bats to save him from a terrible outing. The bullpen was strong this series thankfully and helped preserve the 3 wins.

                    The Cardinals get a rare day off on Friday as they travel to Minnesota for a mini two game series with the Twins on Saturday and Sunday before returning home for a 3 game series with the Reds to close out the month of May.

                    Trade season is upon us

                    It appears that trade season is upon us as we've seen two significant trades here in the last week of May.

                    Cubs traded RHP Alec Mills to A's for 1B/RF Seth Brown

                    Tigers traded LHP Joey Wentz to the Rockies for RF Charlie Blackmon

                    Nothing major but significant trades for the teams involved as the Tigers are the only team of the 3 that appears to not being in the playoff hunt, though they are just 5 back of the White Sox and in the wild card race.
                    I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

                      Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

                      I'm into July of 2022 in my Braves franchise. More than 250 games (253 games to be exact, including playoffs) into this. Granted, I'm playing 21 still but this is by far the deepest I've gotten into a franchise.

                      I have a player I want to trade for, but he's not on the trade block. Mulling whether to break my house rule. The team he plays for is on the fringe of playoff contention, so I'm going to wait until late July to see where they're at and whether they should be buyers or sellers.

                      The NL playoff picture looks a lot like last season. Braves, Mets, Brewers, Padres and Dodgers are all currently in playoff position. Only change from last year is the Padres winning the West instead of being a wild card. But the Nationals, Phillies, Cubs and Cardinals are all still very much in the picture.

                      The White Sox are the team to beat in the AL, with a commanding lead in the Central. The Yankees and Rays are tied in the East with the Blue Jays within shouting distance. The Astros and Mariners are battling atop the West. Everybody but the Orioles and Rangers are in contention still for a wild card.

                      Bryce Harper is making a run at the triple crown, hitting over .340 with 26 homers and 71 RBIs as we approach the All-Star break.

                        I just lost Brandon Nimmo for a week or two and put him on the IL so I’m trying to figure out what to do with my lineup. I’ve been going Nimmo, Marte, Lindor, Alonso. Marte and Lindor have been absolutely crushing the ball in the 2 and 3 spots so I could slide McNeil lead off and there shouldn’t be any drop off. Alonso has really been struggling in the 4 spot though so I’m thinking of going Marte, Alonso, Lindor to try and get him going but I’m afraid I’ll be sacrificing some production from Marte. I’ll probably go with scenario two just to guarantee Alonso an at bat in the first inning

                          MLB Draft - 2024

                          The season hasn't started off great. But it might be starting to turn around. We got off to a rough start going 0-5. We rebounded a bit taking 11 of the next 20 to get to 11-14. But the next 20 games weren't as good picking up just 6 wins and putting us at 17-28 with a -39 run differential on May 16th. The team has looked a lot better since going 12-5 with a +21 run differential putting us at 29-33. Last in the division and 6 games back of the Guardians in first. The Padres hold the best record at 43-21 while the Orioles are the worst at 21-43.

                          Standings/Schedule
                          Spoiler

                          The offense has been pretty good so far. We are 9th in Runs with 275, hitting .257/.318/.427 (5th, 16th, 11th) with 110 2B (7th), 19 Triples (4th) and 73 HR (16th). As always we don't walk with only 180 (27th), and we also don't strike out 380 (1st). Base running has been pretty average so far with 42 SB (13th) and a 65.6% success rate (16th).

                          A couple of guys leading the way so far arent who I expected. Vinnie Pasquantino leads the team in AVG at .311 and OBP at .365 and is 2nd on the team with 9 HR and a .504 SLG%. Edward Olivares is the 2nd surprise so far leading the team in OPS at .846 and tied for 3rd with 8 HR. Salvy leads the team in HRs with 13 and has the best AVG with RISP at .357, Bobby leads in Runs with 36, and Doubles with 15. While Benintendi has 5 triples already to lead the team. M.J. Melendez and Ramon Laureano have been big disappointments so far. M.J. is hitting .209/.264/.346 while Laureano is hitting .207/.272/.359.

                          Pitching has by far been the problem through these first 2+ months. As a team, we are 27th in ERA at 4.57, Last in the league in Shutouts with 1, and HR allowed with 99. Walks haven't been an issue so far with 184 putting us 5th overall. And we have been pretty average in Strikeouts with 470 putting us at 16th.

                          Brady Singer has been absolutely atrocious this season with a 7.04 ERA in 55 IP. Not far behind him is Brad Keller with a 5.88 ERA in 64.1 IP. Alfonso Rios was at 6.67 in 6 games before being sent down. Joe Ross has an ERA of 4.35 up from 3.18 last year with the Phillies. But his WHIP is 14 points lower at 1.10 while striking out more and walking fewer players than last year. Duffy was decent before hurting his knee with a 3.90 ERA and Asa Lacy has been good since being called up with a 3.27 ERA in 41.1 IP.

                          Outside of Josh Staumont the bullpen right now is pretty good. Staumont has a 5.84 ERA with a 1.54 WHIP. Will Klein at 7.02 and Seth Elledge at 6.75 are just as trash but down in AAA now and Randy Rodriguez is at 11.81 after 5.1 innings before going on the IL. Joel Payamps has the best ERA at 1.89m Jake Brentz has the best WHIP at 0.86. Taylor Clarke and Scott Barlow have ERAs in the 3's with Brentz, Maples, and Hicks sitting at 2.54 or lower.

                          Draft
                          Spoiler

                          Pretty good draft on our end. Our #1 pick Estrella has a lot of work ahead of him but has some of the best potential in the draft. Our best pick was probably Castro in the 2nd. College arm that should be a fast riser. Pretty well-rounded throwing a 4 Seam, Splitter, Slider, Curve, and Change. His fastball tops out in the low 90s and has some injury concerns. But should be a good middle-of-the-rotation arm if healthy. Navarro was also a good pick late in the draft. His defense needs a lot of work but his bat is much more ready, especially against lefties. His baserunning is his best tool. Should easily steal 25+ bases a year.

                          We have 47 games left before the trade deadline. If we fail I'm not sure what we will do. There arent many guys we need to consider trading. Salvy could be an option but that's about it. 26 at home of those 47 games will be at home, 23 against the division and a massive 39 of them against teams at or over .500. We will find out real quick what this team has in them.

                              Texas Rangers Update (MOM) End of Season 2 and the Beginning of Spring Training

                              Well Season 2 is in the books and the Texas Rangers finished 71-91. A 15 game improvement form last year, but still only good for 4th in the division. We lost our final 7 games. The Toronto Blue Jays went to their 2nd consecutive World Series, but this time they won it all against the San Diego Padres. Rafael Devers and Fernando Tatis were your 2 MVP's.

                              As far as the Ranger went, I was really disappointed in the performance of a lot of my personnel. Joe Musgrove was my big offseason FA signing at 19 plus million a year and he was terrible. Signed as my ACE he pitched so bad that he spent 2 months in AAA. Dane Dunning was also bad with an ERA over 5. Taylor Hearn was so bad that he will never wear a Ranger uniform again. Meanwhile Kohei Arihara won ROY and won 15 games in what was a surprising season.

                              Here is an early breakdown of how we look going in to Spring Training

                              C- Luis Torrens (Acquired him in a deadline deal last year from Seattle. He hit 280 with some pop) Let Garver walk in FA
                              1B- Joey Gallo- Joey led my team in his return to Texas with 32HR's and 75 RBI's
                              2B- Marcus Semien- Big disappointment. Was the AL leader in Average my 1st year but hit only 240 last year
                              SS- Corey Seagar- Very average year. Hit 250 with 19HR
                              3B- Andy Ibanez- My loan All Star last year. After the All Star Break he hit only 220
                              LF- Eli White- Outstanding Speed. hit 240
                              CF- Harrison Bader- Got him in FA.
                              RF- Jake Marisnick?- Hit only 220. Big hole in RF
                              DH- Tre Turner- Hurt a lot last year but did steal 31 bases

                              SP
                              1. Joe Musgrove
                              2. Dane Dunning
                              3. Jack Leiter (Solid First Season, buiding to be ACE)
                              4. Kohei Arihara
                              5. Cole Ragans (Trying to crack starting 5 as top prospect

                                For that player you're wanting to trade for, you could put a package together that you would offer and then press square for TRADE SUGGESTIONS to see if he appears on it.

                                I've done this before when interested by a player not on the trade block. The CPU will make trades for players not on the block, so I figure they do something like this (probably not) so I try to follow suit.
                                I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

                                I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
