    Halo Notes
    • Shohei Ohtani is having another groundbreaking season. He's 12-8 with an ERA of 3.26 and is 2nd in the AL in Strikeouts on the mound. At the plate he's slashing .285/.358/.595 with 21 homeruns and 10 stolen bases.
    • Mike Trout's numbers may win him another MVP. He's hitting .325 with an OPS of 1.067, he's also hit 30 homers (4th in AL) and knocked in 68 runs.
    • Catcher Max Stassi suffered a hand injury against the Twins. The Angels have added him to the 10 Day IL, and he's not expected to miss significant time, but it's a blow to the Angels lineup as he was having a career year hitting a career high 21 home runs while posting a OPS of .806

Cardinals split mini 2 game series with Brewers

The Cardinals (7-4) split their mini 2 game series with the Brewers to begin the week in Milwaukee.

On Tuesday the Cardinals put Adam Wainwright on the mound and he was absolutely rocked. Waino lasted just 2.1 innings giving up 8 runs on 8 hits with 3 walks. He allowed 3 homeruns in this game. The Cards offense continues to sputter as they could only put up 2 runs on 3 hits.

Wednesday was Jack Flaherty vs Brandon Woodruff and what a pitchers duel. Flaherty went 7 innings allowing no runs on just 2 hits with 14 strikeouts. Woodruff went 6 innings allowing 1 run on just 4 hits with 13 strikeouts. The lone run came off the bat of Tyler O'Neill with a sac fly. Giovanny Gallegos continues his torrid pace with his 6th save already this season.

The Cardinals will head to Arizona for a 4 game weekend series with the Diamondbacks.

A Trip Around the Bases of the League

1st) Kyle Hendricks earned his 100th career save

2nd) Nick Castellanos hit his 200th career homerun

3rd) Brewers called up top prospect 2B Termarr Johnson

Home) Injuries continue to be the theme of the 2023 season as Angels Mike Trout (torn labrum) and Red Sox Chris Sale (torn rotator cuff) are both done for the season

Cardinals drop 4 game series to Diamondbacks

The Cardinals (8-7) lost 3 games of a 4 game series against the Diamondbacks in Arizona over the weekend.

The Cardinals early inconsistency continues as the bats were quiet for most of the season and pitching just can't miss the big part of the bat. And even more concerning is for the 2nd straight start Adam Wainwright gave up big numbers, this time 8 runs over 5 innings. The only win was on Friday night with Miles Mikolas on the mound as he was able to hold the D'Backs to 3 runs while the offense put up 5.

Even more concerning was another injury, this time Gio Urshela who suffered groin pull on Saturday.

The Cardinals will travel home for a 3 game series with the Yankees and then the Brewers come to St.Louis for a 4 game series.

A Trip Around the Bases of the League

1st) Angels Anthony Rendon recorded his 700th career RBI over their weekend series

2nd) The Yankees and Twins played 3 games in Minnesota where all 3 went extra innings and all three went at least 12 innings.

3rd) Dylan Carlson continues to be hot for the Cardinals going 7 for 15 in their series with the Diamondbacks with 2 homeruns, 2 doubles and 8 RBIs

Home) Padres have now won 8 straight games

Gio Urshela to IL - Nolan Gorman recalled from Memphis

Gio Urshela was placed on the 10 day IL after Sunday's game after suffering a pulled groin Saturday night. Urshela is expected to miss 2 weeks. Top 5 organization prospect Nolan Gorman was recalled from Memphis. Gorman was hitting .252 with 6 homeruns and 19 RBIs to begin the year. Gorman or Munoz are expected to be the everyday 3B until Urshela returns.

2022 Arizona Diamondbacks End Of July

Overall Record:64-42 (Tied for 1st in NL West with the LA Dodgers

Diamondbacks end July with eight game winning streak.

The Diamondbacks won their final eight games in the month of July. The wins included winning two of three against the Nationals and sweeping the Giants and Braves in back to back three gamer series.

The streak didnt come easy as Arizona's margin of victory was just 2.5 runs. The last game of the month was the most intense as Arizona looked to sweep the defending champion Atlanta Braves.

One factor to the eventual wild game three was bullpen fatigue for Arizona. A problem that started in the final game of the series against the Giants earlier in the week. In that sweep clenching game three, Merrill Kelly left in the 3rd inning after suffering a mild hamstring pull (out two to three weeks). As a response to that, Corbin Martin finished the game and was moved into the starting rotation after the game. That move meant one less bullpen arm and the team initially decided not to make any call ups as the leading candidate Humberto Castellanos had used one of his minor league options just a few weeks prior after Zac Gallen came back from his injury.

Fast forward three days to game two of the Atlanta series. Before the game, projected starter Luke Weaver came down with a stomach bug and had to miss the start. The decision was made to start Noe Ramirez, a relief pitcher who typically pitches a single inning and sometimes two. He was able to last 3.1 innings but everyone else in the bullpen had to be used in the highly contested 9-7 victory. Mark Melancon and JB Wendelken also pitched in the first game of the series.

On to game three with Arizona's ace Zac Gallen taking the mound. Despite two home runs, he was able to last 7 full innings while allowing just six hits, four runs and striking out 10. Unfortunately, the offense was stifled throughout the game by Ian Anderson (6.0 IP 4 H 1 R 2 SO) and company. It appeared that the winning streak would come to an end on the last day of the month. Atlanta entered the top of the 9th with a three run lead and closer Kenley Jansen coming into close it out.

The 9th started with Jansen pitching around and Walking Ketel Marte. That walk was followed by a Christian Walker single which put two runners on for David Peralta. During his at bat, Peralta got a hanging slider and deposited the ball into the right field seats, his 20th HR of the season.

The teams would go into extras and would match each other's input in the first three innings (1 in the 10th, 2 in the 11th and 3 in the 12th. Arizona finally closed the game and the sweep out after they scored three more in the top of the 13th while a combination of worn out Ian Kennedy and Keone Kela were able to hold the Braves to just two runs. Sixteen total pitchers were used between the two teams. Arizona took the victory 13-12 after 13 hard fought innings.

Arizona will go straight in to another three game series, travelling to Cleveland to take on the Guardians (52-55).

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

On July 1, 2022 with the Red Sox. Sitting at 54-27 with a 7 game lead on the Rays. Big surprise of the season is the Yankees at 35-44, 20 games out of the division and 13 back of the wild card. Their lineup and bullpen have been issues. Only Judge and Stanton have an OPS above .750 and Loaisiga has an ERA under 3.60 in the bullpen. Gerrit Cole tore his pectoral on May 10 and should return within two weeks.

No major roster moves for the Red Sox. However Triston Casas should be getting close to making the majors. Casas is hitting .295/.383/.578 with 19 home runs in 258 Triple A at bats.

In a disappointing turn of events, Chris Sale made his season debut on June 24, throwing 5 innings of 2 run ball with strikeouts. In his second start, he left the third inning with a forearm injury and will miss another 2 months. Should be back in September and will probably be a reliever.

The Red Sox first three draft were catcher Herbert Gold, second baseman Pedro Francisco, and relief pitcher Johnny Snyder. Gold is 20 year old 62 overall with 99 potential. Excellent batting skills with terrible defense. Will need to improve or move to first or DH.

Pedro Francisco is a 20 year old with speed and steal ratings over 90 but below average everywhere else. 55 overall with 82 potential. Long way to go but we'll have to see if the skills can be good enough for the speed to play.

Johnny Snyder is 69 overall with 93 potential, 22 years old. Hopefully a fast moving reliever who could get to the majors in a year or two depending on performance. Mid 90s fastball with mid 80s slider and change up.

The rest of the draft were in the 60 overall, C potential range. No one exciting but maybe some useful depth down the road

                Paul DeJong to IL

The injury bug just continues to plague the Cardinals roster. Paul DeJong left Tuesday's game with a calf injury that is expected to put him on the IL for 2 months.

DeJong was struggling this season hitting just .143 with zero homeruns and zero RBIs. He originally was going to start the season in Memphis but was recalled when Nolan Arenado was lost for the season.

DeJong becomes the 3rd infielder to be placed on the IL not even 20 games into the season. Arenado is lost for the season (torn labrum) and Gio Urshela was just placed on 10 Day IL due to pulled groin.

Juan Yepez was recalled from Memphis is a corresponding move.

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

I've attempted franchises with the Nationals and Pirates, but in the end, I came back to my favorite team, the Red Sox.

The Red Sox announced their Opening Day roster, with no real surprises, the only potential question marks were in the bullpen. Lefties Matt Strahm, Darwinzon Hernandez, Josh Taylor, and Austin Davis were in a battle for the last lefty spot, with Hernandez ultimately winning out with his velocity being a selling point. It didn't help matters any with the fact that both Strahm (6.59 ERA) and Davis (10.24 ERA) struggled with keeping runs off the board. Taylor kept runs off the board, but struggled with hits and his control.

For the first time in a while, the Red Sox have a completely healthy rotation, headlined by ace Chris Sale, who has lost most of the last two seasons to Tommy John surgery.

Here are is your 2022 Boston Red Sox Opening Day roster...

                  Rotation:
                  Chris Sale
                  Tanner Houck
                  James Paxton
                  Nathan Eovaldi
                  Rich Hill

                  Bullpen:
                  Michael Wacha
                  John Schrieber
                  Ryan Brasier
                  Darwinzon Hernandez
                  Jake Diekman
                  Hansel Robles
                  Matt Barnes

                  Closer:
                  Garrett Whitlock

                  Catchers:
                  Christian Vazquez
                  Kevin Plawecki

                  Infielders:
                  Christian Arroyo
                  Xander Bogaerts
                  Bobby Dalbec
                  Rafael Devers
                  Trevor Story

Cardinals drop series to Yankees in St.Louis

The Cardinals (9-9) dropped 2 games of a 3 game series with the Yankees at Busch Stadium in St.Louis to begin the week. The Cardinals find themselves 1/2 game back of the Brewers and Cubs in the NL Central.

Jack Flaherty got the ball on Monday night but the Bronx Bombers lived up to their name as they knocked Flaherty around to the tune of 4 homeruns and 7 earned runs. The Yankees would go on to win 11-4 over the Cardinals.

Robbie Ray got the ball Tuesday and earned his first win of the season with a 5-3 win. Ray was shaky but got out of jams and timely defense and hitting would help the Cards to victory. Nolan Gorman got his first hit and homerun in the big leagues on one swing that changed the game.

Wednesday afternoon Dakota Hudson returned from IL and pitched 5 solid innings, but would leave with the game tied at 2. Ryan Helsley would take the loss giving up 4 runs in a third of an inning as the Cards would get blown out 12-1. Zach Britton would give up 6 runs without recording an out against his former club.

The Cardinals will welcome the Brewers to town for the weekend for a 4 game series. Cardinals need something positive to happen as this team is treading water at best right now.

Mariners Keep Dibs on MLB's best record through mid May

The Mariners have continued to keep up their high level of play into mid may as they currently sit atop the bigs with a 30-13 record. They are hitting on all cylinders for the most part as the power has come through big time all year. The one point of concern has been the struggles of Julio Rodriguez as he is trying to find his groove at the mlb level.

                      Trade Alert

It seems that teams are no longer waiting for the trade deadline to make their impact moves as the trades were flying into the news desks today outta nowhere.

The Yankees acquired SP Tyler Anderson from the Dodgers after Luis Severino took a line drive off the face which resulted in a skull fracture which will shelve Sevvy until next season. Anderson has a 4-0 record with a 3.32 ERA in 40.2 IP on 7 starts on the year. The Dodgers take back 1B Greg Bird back in the deal.

The Mariners front office led by GM Jerry Dipoto is known for trading and they have struck again swinging a major deal in terms of prospects. OF Jarred Kelenic who was once the headliner in the Cano/Diaz to NYM deal has been shipped to the Cleveland Guardians who are in dire need of outfield help. Kelenic and RHP Levi Stoudt were sent to Cleveland in exchange for OF George Valera and SS Gabriel Arias.

The Mariners then sent minor league speedster SS Erick Mejia to NYY in exchange for former top pitching prospect Deivi Garcia. The right-hander has never been able to put it all together and has struggled ever since reaching AAA in 2019 and the majors in 2020. He has been hit hard in both levels and has seemingly lost his luster so the Mariners are gunna roll the dice to see if they might be able to tap into some of his hidden potential.

The Mariners next worked the phone to find a spot for starter Chris Flexen who is under team control through 2026 with an eye on clearing a roster spot for one of their young guns in AAA. The White Sox came calling and they sent 21 year old pitching prospect Norge Vera to the Mariners in exchange for Flexen. That deal cleared the way for the M's to promote highly regarded Japanese hurler Roki Sasaki who had a brief stint in AAA after coming stateside. Sasaki went 2-1 in 54.2 innings with a 3.46 ERA and 57 punch-outs for the Tacoma Rainiers. It is expected that Roki will start in Flexen's spot for their next game against the Blue Jays.

The Detroit Tigers who are quickly fading as the league's worst team have one of the better reliever trade chips in impending FA RHP Michael Fulmer who currently has 10 Ks and a 0.77 ERA in 11.2 IP on the year. The Tigers sent Fulmer to St. Louis in exchange for prospects OF Trejyn Fletcher and RHP Andre Pallante.

The Yankees sent another former top prospect to Cincinnati as Miguel Andujar was shipped to the Reds after requesting a trade. The Yankees take back 1B prospect Leonardo Seminati. Tyler Naquin is on the IL for the next 2 months after suffering a fractured shin so this gives Andujar a chance to step in and get some plate appearances.

1B Josh Bell has long been on the block and it seems like he has finally found a landing spot as the SF Giants have struck a deal to acquire the switch hitter. The Nationals will get back SF's #8 prospect in OF Hunter Bishop. That leaves a hole at 1B for the Nationals who didn't have a clear replacement, until they swung another deal moments later. They were able to acquire a great change of scenery opportunity player in Keston Hiura. The Nats shipped off 2B prospect Darren Baker to the Brew Crew. They also signed FA 1B Ryan Zimmerman, whom previously was seemingly retired but after further review, had never officially completed the paperwork.

Willson Contreras the longtime Cub has long been thought to be available and there were a handful of suitors interested in him. However, today was the day where the Cubs finally pulled the trigger. The Houston *'s acquired the longtime Cub who has struggled this year with a .204 average/1 HR/ 10 RBI's on the season. The Cubs were able to bring back a solid haul getting RHP Cristian Javier and *'s #3 prospect OF Pedro Leon. The *'s were able to fill Javier's void in the bullpen by signing RP Pedro Baez to a one year deal for 4.8 million.

The firesale in Oakland continued as SS Elvis Andrus who ranks among the top in the AL with 8 steals on the season so far was next to go. He was sent to Philadelphia in exchange for OF prospect Marcus Lee Sang.

Cardinals designate Zach Britton for assignment

The Cardinals have DFA'd LHP Zach Britton. The 36 year was signed this offseason in an attempt to add major league ready depth to the bullpen. But Britton has just been awful. He has appeared in 6 games, but has only pitched 4.1 innings in those 6 appearances. He has an ERA of 20+, a WHIP over 3, and has given up 7 homeruns. His sinker/slider combo just isn't working.

Whether he gets outrighted to the minors or outright released to free agency is still up for discussion.

No corresponding move has been made as Kwang Hyun Kim was activated from the IL, so for the time being he will occupy Britton's spot on the 26 man roster.

I didn't have much patience with Chance Sisco in the backup catcher role.

With John Ryan Murphy barely batting over .100 for the season, we traded for Sisco a few weeks ago and stashed him at Gwinnett. We finally called him up and gave him a start in place of Travis d'Arnaud. After an 0-for-4 performance with three strikeouts in an 8-3 loss to Arizona, we quickly decided he wasn't the guy.

The A's were shopping Austin Allen, so we sent a pitching prospect to them for him. We needed to open a spot on the 40-man for Allen, so we DFA'd Sisco and quickly shipped him to the Royals for a mid-level pitching prospect.

If Allen doesn't work out, we're probably just going to give William Contreras a shot. We'd like to keep Shea Langeliers playing every day at Gwinnett.

Felix Pena got roughed up in relief in the loss. So he's been optioned back to Gwinnett. Ryan Stanek, DFA'd by the Astros earlier this season, has been called up to be the new long relief pitcher.

As expected, the AL East is a tight race. After being swept in by cellar-dwelling Oakland, the Blue Jays are tied with Tampa Bay atop the division, with the Yankees just one game back. Boston has been coming on strong as of late and are 5.5 games out.

Three more series until the All-Star Break. Going to really explore making trades to improve the bullpen and possibly the starting rotation.
