Just had my most frustrating yet amazing game to date. It's Friday before Mother's Day. The Central leading White Sox are in Bean town to take on the third place Red Sox.

Michael Kopech starts and he just completely baffled the Red Sox hitters. His slider got Martinez and Bogaerts two times each. Caught Devers looking on a 4 seam fastball.

Kopech finally yielded the first hit to Story in the top of the 7th. After 94 pitches, Kopech, just ran out of gas. Giving up a seeing eye single to Verdugo. With runners on first and third, LaRussa made a move to the pen. Get's the next two outs without allowing the run.

Tim Anderson scores from second on a bloop to right field that JBJ couldn't get to.

Heading into the bottom of the ninth. Shipping up to Boston playing between innings. LaRussa calls on Liam Hendricks to close it out.

Tie Game!

Bottom of the tenth with Story the ghost runner on second, Verdugo hits a rocket to right field, but an amazing leaping grab saves the game.

The game ended 2-1 in 11 innings. White Sox scored on a single up the middle, and the Sox went down 1, 2, 3 in the bottom to end the game.

It was so frustrating, but I never felt angry.

Braves (25-12) sweep Red Sox (14-23)

Game 1: W 3-0
Not much going on the offensive side of either team until the 8th. Albies, Acuna, and Olson all had solo HRs in this inning. Albies and Acuna now both with 8 HRs one the year, Olson with 10. Will Smith picks up the win, his first of the year. Tyler Matzek achieves his eleventh save of the year.

Game 2: W 3-2
Similar situation in this game with a 3 HR inning in the 2nd. Olson, Riley, and Rosario all picking up HRs. Olson now with 11, Rosario with 8 and Riley with 7. Red Sox make some noise in the 4th with Martinez and Vasquez both pick up sac RBIs. However, that wasn't enough as both teams would remain scoreless for the rest of the game. Charlie Morton picks up the win (6-1) with 10 strikeouts.

Off Season & Spring Training - 2024

The offseason went pretty well with the team spending a bit more money than usual. Majority of it going to players already on the team though. We started with exercising the team option on Danny Duffy after putting up a 3.20 ERA in 188 IP last season. We then re-signed Brad Keller to a 3-year, 30-million-dollar contract. He has improved on his ERA the last 2 seasons putting up a 4.12 ERA last season with a 4.13 ERA over 858 innings in his career. The last and biggest in-house deal went to Bobby Witt Jr. after putting up 4.5 WAR last season and hitting .322/.378/.607 over the last 54 games we decided to extend him long-term giving him a 6-year extension worth 90 million, buying out his first 2 years of free agency.

There are a few new additions to the team as well. Our first addition was reliever Jordan Hicks. He signed a 1-year deal worth 6.9 million with a mutual option for a 2nd year at 8.1 million. His 2023 season wasn't great putting up a 5.36 ERA in 48.2 IP. His 2022 was better with a 3.95 ERA in 41 IP. Walks were a major issue last year a 6.10 BB/9. We continued to add to the pitching by signing Joe Ross to a 1 year deal worth 9 million and a mutual option for another year at the same price. He had the best season of his career for the Phillies last year putting up a 3.18 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP over 181 innings. The last free-agent pickup was Jorge Polanco with a 3-year, 24 million dollar deal. Last season he hit .250/.329/.404 with 19 HR and 72 RBI. We also picked up a reliever in the Rule 5 Draft grabbing Travis Lakins Sr. from the Angels.

Royals Transactions / MLB Free Agent Signings and Trades

Heading into spring training we had about 23 guys we were pretty sure would make the team. 3 of those guys ended up failing to do so. With the addition of Joe Ross, we had 1 more spot in the rotation open. And boy did we have a lot of guys fighting for that spot. With 7 guys there wasn't a ton of time to make decisions so the first 2 to fall were Asa Lacy and Jonathan Bowlan who both put up 5 ER in their first 5 IP. Jace Vines was next after allowing 12 ER in 14 IP. The rest made it to the very end and it was all pretty close for the most part. Carlos Hernandez had a 3.98 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 20.1 IP. Daniel Lynch had a 3.15 ERA and 1.70 WHIP in 20 IP while Kris Bubic had a 4.19 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 19.1 IP. In the end, the last spot was given to Alfonso Rios after putting up a 3.92 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 20.2 IP.

The bullpen turned out a bit different than I thought it would. I originally had Dillon Maples down as a lock after being the best reliever on the team before his injury last year. Unfortunately, he came back and struggled with getting guys out putting up a 4.50 ERA and 2.00 WHIP in 6.1 IP. So he will start the year down in AAA to try and work things out. Joining him will be Joel Payamps who I also thought would be making the team out of ST. He ended up with a 5.68 ERA and 2.05 WHIP in 6 IP. Our Rule 5 Draft pick Travis Lakins failed to make the team as well putting up a 7.11 ERA and 2.68 WHIP. He was released and ended up being claimed off waivers by the Marlins. Randy Rodriguez and Will Klein ended up taking their spots joining Scott Barlow, Jordan Hicks, Jake Brentz, Seth Elledge, and Josh Staumont.

The offensive side of things went a little more as expected with the majority of starting lineup set in stone. Edward Olivares ended up taking a spot from Kyle Isbel after hitting .356/.406/.644 with 2 HR in 64 PA. Isbel will start the season in AAA after hitting .238/.304/.413 in 69 PA. Vinnie Pasquantino and Michael Massey will join Olivares on the opening day roster. Vinnie was called up at the end of last year and hit well before going down with an injury with a couple of weeks left he hit .258/.333/.355 with a homer in 70 PA during the spring.

Royals Lineups / Minor League Rosters

Ramon Laureano played well in ST hitting .316/.344/.579 with 3 HR. We are gonna bring him on slow though as he tries to bounce back from the worst season of his career. He will start the season as a starter against lefties and come on as a defensive sub over Olivares when he isn't starting. The same pretty much applies to Adalberto Mondesi. We probably should have given up a long time ago but with a team option at the end of the year, this is his last chance to show us he can help the team win.

The rotation in Double-A starts the year with 2 MLB Top 50 prospects in Colton Snyder (#2) and Hayden Moore (#44). The rest of the rotation includes our #4, #7, and #14 prospects in Frank Mozzicato, Nolan Wise, and John Doxakis while the offensive side has our top-rated hitting prospect in Erick Pena at #5. If things go to plan Mozzicato, Wise, and should hopefully see Triple-A whether that be due to injury or the team playing well enough that we can clear some room with trades near the deadline. Seuly Matias will hopefully see some time in the majors as well near the end of the season.

We open up the season at home in a 3 game series against the Tigers and then head out on the road to take on the Guardians in their home opener. We follow that up with a trip to Chicago to take on the White Sox in their home opener as well. Then it's back home to face the Angels and the Red Sox. The first 30 games are pretty evenly split with 16 at home and 14 on the road. We play the division early and often with 19 of the 30 against them. As well as 19 of the 30 against teams that were .500 or better last season. It's now been 7 years since we made the playoffs. Hopefully, we can put an end to that streak.

So I'm gonna try something that's kind of fun and gets my nephew involved. Today we are introducing Thor Odinson into mlb22. A 20 year old, 6'4 225 RF that's going to have all the raw tools to make it (60 power on both sides, 90 speed, 90 arm strength) but needs to learn how to play the game and truly develop to make an impact (30 contact on both sides, 30 bunting, 30 arm accuracy, 30 fielding reaction, 50 base running aggressive and stealing)

It should be a fun little time consuming project until the draft IRL.

We will be starting him at AA as he's a 56 ovr.

Twins End Rough West-Coast Trip with Victory

The Minnesota Twins won on Sunday afternoon in Arizona to end a 7-game losing skid and finish their West Coast road trip 1-5, falling into last place in the American League Central.

They were swept in Seattle to start the trip by scores of 5-4, 8-7 and 5-3 before heading to Arizona where they dropped the first two of the series by scores of 6-4 and 5-1, before finally having an offensive eruption and winning the finale by a score of 11-4.

Through 73 games, the Twins sit in last place in their division with a record of 34-39. Despite missing Jorge Polanco since April 15th, they have a top 10 offense in all of baseball. They are 14th in the majors with a .251 team batting average, 9th in runs scored with 319 and 4th in homeruns with 101. Pitching and defense has been a huge problem though as they are 24th in the league with an ERA of 4.42 and 26th in the MLB with a .985 fielding percentage. While the pitching isn't a surprise, the lack of defense is of concern as they feature former Gold Glovers in Carlos Correa at shortstop, Byron Buxton in center, and Max Kepler in right field.

Offensively, Gio Urshela has been Minnesota's MVP leading the league in hitting at .330 to go along with 15 homeruns and a team-best 46 RBI. Polanco was hitting .373 before his IL stint and will be welcomed back within the next few weeks. Nick Gordon (.301/.371/.444) and Trevor Larnach (.280/.339/.506) have emerged onto the scene and are fighting to get everyday at-bats. Alex Kiriloff is currently in St. Paul and on the IL, and Byron Buxton (.222/.273/.385) is not living up to his contract thus far.

As far as their pitching woes, opening day starter Joe Ryan (3-7, 5.35) was demoted to St. Paul on June 12th. Prized trade acquisition Sonny Gray (2-7, 6.44) was recently demoted to the bullpen and may be DFA'd soon. Veteran's Dylan Bundy (4-3, 5.40) and Chris Archer (4-6, 5.31) have been trying to eat innings but have failed to keep the Twins in the ballgame. The one lone bright spot in the rotation has been Chris Paddack (5-3, 3.50) but he was recently put on the IL. Drew Strotman (1-1, 3.24) and Bailey Ober (2-0. 1.88) have both been extremely effective since their callups but a contending team can't be relying on youngsters to lead a playoff push.

The Twins have about a month or so to see if they can get back into the playoff hunt, and then it will be decision time for the front office. Do they go out and get some pitching, something they failed to do in the off-season? Is Carlos Correa shipped off before he can decline his player option after the season? Will we see Royce Lewis soon?

Cardinals drop series to Brewers

The Cardinals (10-12) dropped 3 games of a 4 game series with the Brewers in St.Louis. The Cardinals are now 3.5 games back in the NL Central.

Pitching can't get timely outs, hitting can get timely hits, its the same story that has been the case thus far this season. The only bright spot was Saturday when Jack Flaherty earned his 4th win of the season allowing no runs on just 1 hit thru 6 innings. Dylan Carlson and Tyler O'Neill provided the offense. Other that, nothing about this series really to write positive things about.

The Cardinals are off on Monday as they travel to Washington for a 3 game series with the Nationals.

HASS RECALLED FROM REHAB ASSIGNMENT, GROSSMAN DESIGNATED FOR ASSIGNMENT
The Tigers recalled C/LF Eric Haase from his rehab assignment. To make room on the roster, they designated outfielder Robbie Grossman for assignment. Grossman was hitting just .205 with 7 HR and 21 RBI in 200 at bats for the Tigers. He never really got on track, and was only playing against left handed pitching. Haase will assume that role. Haase was hitting .255 with 6 HR and 14 RBI in 55 at bats before going on the I.L. Haase was hitting .289 with 5 HR vs left handed pitching.

Twins Activate Polanco
Prior to Wednesday's game two matchup with the Guardians, the Minnesota Twins activate second baseman Jorge Polanco. Polanco has been in the IL since April 15th with a broken left forearm. Prior to the injury, Polanco was slashing a solid .373/.431/.647 with 3 homeruns and 8 RBI.

"Jorge will be thrown right back into the middle of our already dangerous lineup, but we will ease him back into playing the field. He will DH most days to start before jumping in at second base," commented Twins' manager Rocco Baldelli during a mid-morning press conference.

In a corresponding move, the Twins optioned 3B Jose Miranda to St. Paul. Miranda, a top prospect for the Twins, spent 15 days with the big club, his first MLB stint. While he was hitting over .350 at one point, it has been a bit more of struggle lately and in 28 at-bats he has hit .250 with a homer, but struck out 9 times.

Cardinals activate Gio Urshela

The Cardinals have activated Gio Urshela from the 10 Day IL. He will be back in the lineup Wednesday night against the Nationals.

Urshela went on the IL about 2 weeks ago with a groin injury. The Cards are hopeful that his return will spark an offense that has been stagnant at best thru the first month of the season.

Nolan Gorman was optioned back to Memphis in a corresponding move as the organization wants the young lefty to continue to get everyday at-bats.

Twins Sweep Cleveland

After ending a 7-game losing streak on Sunday, the Minnesota Twins have continued to play good baseball as they swept division-rival Cleveland in a mid-week three-game series at Target Field.

On Tuesday, the Twins hung on for a 6-5 win after getting out to a 5-1 lead after four innings. Dylan Bundy (5-3) wasn't sharp, but pitched well enough to get the victory; allowing four runs over six innings. Tyler Duffey came on to get a one-out save in the ninth. Luis Arraez and Carlos Correa each contributed three hits out of the one and two spots in the lineup.

On Wednesday, the Twins won in convincing fashion with an 8-2 beating of the Guardians. Josh Winder made his much anticipated major league debut, but it was cut short after just three and one-third innings as he left with a flexor strain. It appears he will avoid the IL and will be day-to-day. Sonny Gray pitched three and two-thirds of two hit relief to pick up his third win of the year. Offensively the Twins got three hits and three RBI from Miguel Sano, including his 18th homerun of the year.

For the series finale, Tyler Duffey blew a one-run lead in the ninth, setting up Gio Urshela dramatics in the 12th. Urshela broke the hearts of Cleveland as he deposited a 2-0 fastball into the seats for a walk-off grand slam off Guardians reliever Bryan Shaw. Jharel Cotton (4-2) pitched three innings of one-run ball to pick up the win in relief of Twins starter Drew Strotman. Strotman was great again, going six plus innings, allowing just one run and striking out ten.

The Twins hope to keep it rolling over the weekend as they welcome in the Rockies of Colorado for the three-game interleague series. Chris Archer (4-6, 5.31), Bailey Ober (2-0, 1.88) and Dylan Bundy (5-3, 5.45) are scheduled to toe the rubber for Minnesota.

The Cardinals (10-12) dropped 3 games of a 4 game series with the Brewers in St.Louis. The Cardinals are now 3.5 games back in the NL Central.

Pitching can't get timely outs, hitting can get timely hits, its the same story that has been the case thus far this season. The only bright spot was Saturday when Jack Flaherty earned his 4th win of the season allowing no runs on just 1 hit thru 6 innings. Dylan Carlson and Tyler O'Neill provided the offense. Other that, nothing about this series really to write positive things about.

The Cardinals are off on Monday as they travel to Washington for a 3 game series with the Nationals.

Got to love the Show every game is not the same. But I am sure you will right the ship!

Kyle Dutcher broke a 1-1 tie in the third with a 2 run home run, his 25th of the season. Jonathan Schoop followed with a solo shot, his 20th of the season, helping the Tigers to a 5-3 win over the Twins. Eric Haase, in his first at bat since returning from the I.L, hit an inside the park home run. Tarik Skubal (16-0) allowed 3 runs in 6 innings, to earn the win. Gregory Soto earned his 36th save of the season.

TIGERS 10 TWINS 2 JULY 23, 2022

The Tigers beat the Twins in game 2, 10-2. Detroit scored 3 in the first, and 3 in the third, and never looked back. Spencer Torkelson (34) homered twice, and drove in 4. Javier Baez (25), Jonathan Schoop (21), Austin Meadows (22), Riley Greene (11), and Jeimer Candelario (19) also hit home runs. Eduardo Rodriguez (15-1) picked up the win with 7 innings of 1 run ball.

TIGERS 8 TWINS 4 JULY 24, 2022

The Tigers completed the sweep with an 8-4 win over the Twins. Jeimer Candelario (20) homered, and drove in three. Kyle Dutcher (26) homered and drove in 2. Casey Mize (16-0) won his 16th game of the season.

Cardinals drop series to Nationals as struggles continue

The Cardinals (11-14) dropped 2 games of a 3 game series with the Nationals in Washington and are now 4 games back of the Cubs in the NL Central.

Its the same story again with inconsistent pitching and a stagnant offense. The only thing the Cards are doing well is defense. Its easy to place the offensive struggles on injuries with Arenado and Bader being out for the year, Urshela just returned from the 10 Day IL (2 week stint) and DeJong will likely be gone until June. But with the likes of Tommy Edman, Dylan Carlson (who's playing brilliantly), Anthony Rizzo, Tyler O'Neill and Gio Urshela when healthy, you would think the offense would have more production than it has currently.

And with that, the pitching staff has been healthy aside from Dakota Hudson missing a couple of starts with a pectoral injury, but aside from Jack Flaherty, the rotation has struggled and the bullpen has been very inconsistent. Robbie Ray who was a prized acquisition this offseason in a trade with the Mariners, has had one quality start in 6 games started and hasn't pitched past the 5th inning in his last two starts.

The calendar will flip to May in a few days and the Cardinals may seriously need to look at addressing these concerns now instead of waiting to see if things turn around, because if things continue the Cardinals may be out of the playoff hunt before the all-star break.
