Cardinals sweep Reds behind dominant pitching

The Cardinals (14-14) earned their first 3 game series sweep of the season as they swept the Reds over the weekend in Cincinnati. The Cardinals still remain 3 games behind the Cubs.

Pitching, it was all about pitching. Jack Flaherty, Robbie Ray, and Dakota Hudson did something that you rarely see in baseball, if ever see. All 3 pitching complete game shutouts. That's right the Reds didn't score a single run in a hitters ballpark all weekend. The Cardinals won Friday 6-0, Saturday 3-0 and Sunday 2-0.

This could be the spark this ballclub needed to get things going in the right direction as the calendar flips to May.

The Cardinals are off on Monday as they travel home for a 5 game homestand starting with 2 games against the Twins and then a weekend series with the Rockies.

A Trip Around the Bases of the League

1st) Angels pitcher Noah Syndergaard recorded his 1000th strikeout of his career

2nd) Guardians pitcher Michael Wacha has found the fountain of youth as he is 5-0 with a 0.96 ERA in 6 starts this year

3rd) After one month of the season, the Orioles (AL East), A's (AL West), and Rockies (NL West) lead their respective divisions

Home) Mets OF Brandon Nimmo leads baseball with a .395 average. He's slashing .395/.485/.640 in 86 at-bats

Cardinals split 2 game series with Twins

The Cardinals (15-15) split their mini 2 game series with the Twins in St.Louis to begin the week. The Cardinals are still 4 games behind the Cubs in the NL Central.

The Cardinals won Tuesday night despite Miles Mikolas being shaky. He stumbled his way thru 5 innings of work giving up 3 runs on 4 hits with just 2 strikeouts against 3 walks. Gio Urshela provided the spark for the offense with 3 RBI's including a 2 run homerun that broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the 5th. Giovanny Gallegos earned his 10th save of the season.

Wednesday afternoon Adam Wainwright got the ball and had one of, if not the best, outings of this season. Waino went 8.1 innings before being pulled after giving up a walk. Gallegos was brought in to get the final two outs, but gave up a 3 run homerun to Trevor Larnach that put the Twins up 3-2, blowing the save and losing the game.

The Cardinals will be off on Thursday as they await the arrival of the Rockies for a 3 game weekend series.

        2022 Arizona Diamondbacks 08/01-08/07

Overall Record:67-45 (1st NL West .5 games over LA

        Sweeps-R-Us

Arizona finished July with a eight game winning streak which included two sweeps. The start of August continued the sweep parade but unfortunately, in favor of the Cleveland Guardians who won all three games 7-5, 4-3 and 11-8, The second series of the month would also result in a sweep but this time Arizona would get back in the winning groove, winning three straight against Colorado 7-2, 9-8 and 4-2.

The second game of the Colorado series was rather impressive as Arizona showed the will to fight. The team got out to an early 3-0 lead after four innings but Colorado would respond with seven combined runs in the 5th and 6th innings. Add on another in the second and Colorado had a 8-3 lead after six and a half innings.

Arizona could have thrown in the towel and just looked to win the series in the last game of the series but they didnt. Arizona responded with runs in each of the final three innings to include a walk off single by Carson Kelly in the bottom of the 9th to snag the game away from Colorado.

Kelly was also key in the game three victory as his two solo shots led the way for the 4-2 victory. The sweep put Arizona back atop the NL West as LA currently trails by a half a game. Colorado remains in last place in the division but still sit at .500 with a 57-57 overall record.

Arizona will look to increase that lead over LA with a four game series against the Pirates who have a MLB worst 34-78 record.

Nats take the 3-game set, 2-1.

Game 1: was an extra inning affair. The pitching match-up favored us. SP Fried vs. M. Thompson. Fried labored a little. He went 6IP, 3ER,6H,0BB & 4K. A quality start no doubt, but the Nats SP. Thompson matched him going 6IP,4H,2R,0ER,2BB & 2K. The Nats out scored us 2-1 in the 10th frame. Nats won 6-5.

Game 2: We had it clicking has a team. Offensively put up 8R on 13H,4HR. We faced Strasburg knocked him out early,3.2IP,8H,5R,5ER,2BB &3. Soroka record moved to 2-0. Pitched wonderfully 6IP,6H,2R,2ER,0BB & 5K. We won 8-2!

Game 3: The Nats returned the favor. They put up 8 runs on 14 hits and 4HR's.
          SP I. Anderson(5.1IP,7H,5R,5ER,0BB & 7K) was out-dueled by SP Fedde(7.0IP,4H,3R,3ER,0BB & 4K). We lost 8-3!

Our pitching took a step back during this series. Miss some spots on the pitching meter mechanic. Our record sits at 7-6 (1.5GB) of the first place Mets(8-4).

Up next: 7-game road trip, 4 games vs. the Padres and 3 games vs. Freddie and the Dodgers.

I normally don’t get too wound up over video games but I’m livid over blowing a save thanks to James McCann nonchalantly fielding this ball

And if anyone wants to, feel free to explain how I embed a video from YouTube instead of just posting a link

Edit: McCann came up in the 10th and I was ready to pinch hit and bench for that horrible play but I left him in and he proceeds to hit the game winning HR

Yankees Franchise: End Of May Update

As the calendar flips to June, the Yankees sit at 38-18, the best record in MLB, leading the AL East over the Blue Jays by 5 games. To close out May, the Yankees would sweep the Orioles in Baltimore, and secure a huge 3 out of 4 series win down in Tampa, punctuated by a 6-1 victory in game one of a 3 game set vs the 32-23 AL West Leading Angels.

              Top Performers:
              LF Giancarlo Stanton 306 AVG, 381 OBP, 1.102 OPS, 29 HR’s.
              RF Aaron Judge 289 AVG, 347 OBP, 907 OPS, 16 HR’s.
              2B/DH Gleyber Torres 291 AVG, 371 OBP, 993 OPS, 14 HR’s.
SP Gerrit Cole 1.87 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, 77IP.
CP Aroldis Chapman 1.80 ERA, 0.80 WHIP.
RP Lucas Luetge 1.96 ERA, 0.70 WHIP.

              News:
              Stanton Leads AL MVP Race
Hitting 306 with 29 HR’s, Stanton has been a baseball killing machine through the season’s first two months, putting up the kind of numbers Yankee fans dreamed of back when he was acquired following his 2017 MVP season.

              Brett Gardner Resurgence, Gallo Who?
Since being signed following the Gallo trade, Gardner has rejoined the team ready to play ball, coasting to a 271 AVG, 338 OBP, with 5 HR’s through his first 19 games. So far, Gardner’s bat has exceeded expectations. To end May against the Angels, Gardner would hit a crucial Grand Slam into the second deck in the 2nd inning.

5/22: Yankees-Phillies Agree To Swap Todd Frazier for IF Ronald Torreyes
With Rizzo being activated from the IL, Frazier’s roster spot was gone. If they could not find him a new MLB opportunity, they were expected to grant him his release to FA. With 1B Rhys Hoskins out with a Fractured Forearm, Philly needed a fill in 1B. Torreyes was just a depth piece stashed in AAA.

5/22: Yankees Option Marwin Gonzales To AAA
Torreyes will replace him on the bench.

Your reminder that baseball (and The Show) is awesome.

Completed a three-game weekend series sweep of the Nationals.
                • Game 1: Fell behind 7-1 before rallying to win 11-9.
                • Game 3: Blew a 9-2 lead before scoring late to win 11-9.
                • In between: a 1-0 win where the teams combined for eight hits.

Twins Take 2 of 3 from Rockies Over the Weekend

The Minnesota Twins continued the nice run, extending their winning streak to 6 games as they won on Friday and Saturday night before losing on Sunday.

On Friday night, the Twins won 9-8 in 12 innings as both offenses put on a show. The Rockies put out 15 hits while Minnesota contributed 13, lead by Gio Urshela's five-hit performance. Jorge Polanco delivered four RBI in the winning effort.

The Twins took game two on Saturday by a score of 6-3 as Bailey Ober picked up his third win of the year. Ober (3-0) went just five innings, striking out four and allowing three runs. Carlos Correa contributed three hits and three RBI in the win.

On Sunday, the Rockies snapped the Twins streak by winning 8-3, breaking open a close game late. Gio Urshela had a hit in the fifth inning, extending his hitting streak to 26 games. Dylan Bundy (5-4) was roughed up allowing four runs in just four and one-third innings, raising his ERA to 5.63 on the year.

The Twins will head out on the road to end the month of June, starting with a four-game series with the Guardians in Cleveland on Monday night. The Twins probables are Josh Winder (0-0, 5.40), Drew Strotman (1-1, 2.78), Chris Archer (4-6, 5.64) and Bailey Ober (3-0, 2.48).

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

Nearing the trade deadline right now with the Angels and this is where we're at. I've left most front office decisions up to the AI GM while I control the rosters and whatever fallout comes from the trades that get thrown at me.

Only one such trade came in the first half of the season. SP Patrick Sandoval put up a no-hitter against the Rangers in Arlington in early April. His reward was getting traded to Colorado for infielder Brendan Rodgers.

This left a gap in the rotation which we quickly filled with free agent Kwang Hyun Kim, who's put up a sub-3.00 ERA since joining us in May.

Meanwhile, Brendan Rodgers has joined a platoon on the left side of the infield with Matt Duffy and David Fletcher. He hits a serviceable .250, slotting him in the lineup most days at shortstop over the underperforming Fletcher.

We've put Rendon over at 2nd base due to his declining arm strength, but his fielding ability is still an asset up the middle. He's putting together what might be an MVP season thus far, hitting around .300 and in the top 5 in homers & RBIs for the American League.

Jumping back to the negative, the Thor experiment has ended, as an 0-8 record with an >8.00 ERA spelled out his release at the end of June. We could only watch him get shelled so many times. On a funny note, the Baltimore Orioles picked up his contract and he got his revenge game against the Angels in his 2nd start with his new team, putting up seven scoreless innings against us and allowing just two hits with a pair of walks.

With that, we left a gap in the rotation and tried out a few different prospects, eventually settling on our 2021 first rounder Sam Bachman, who could at least maintain a sub-6.00 ERA. Our biggest issue was our long relief game. Our high pitch count relievers were just unable to keep us in games if our starters couldn't last.

We've been flirting with that .500 line all season as far as our record goes, so we had to make some kind of move one way or another.

So far, this is the deal we've struck with the Phillies and Nationals, both of whom are underperforming expectations:

                      Nats get: 2B Luis Rengifo
Phils get: OF/DH Nelson Cruz & OF Jo Adell
                      Angels get: SP Kyle Gibson

(I had to cobble this together, as the AI GM did the initial Rengifo/Cruz trade but I don't need Cruz if I have Ohtani, so I just forwarded him along to the Phils with Adell lol)

Meanwhile on the other side of the AL West arms race, it's revenge of the former Angels prospects, as the Mariners trade Haniger for Segura and the Rangers let go of a few prospects to bring in CJ Cron.

Should be a crazy August as we sit 4 games behind the Yankees for the 2nd wildcard spot with two division rivals beside us and just about the entire AL Central nipping at our heels.

This in game ticker has me as interested in the NL Central race as I am with what I’ve got going on with The Mets thanks to the Cubs acquiring Gallegos and Flaherty from the Cardinals as they’ve cut their lead to one game and Gallegos leads the league in saves. I’m really immersed in the AL East too as I’m halfway through the season and Baltimore is clinging on to a two game lead

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

I need some advice. I love Mlb the show, I'm a franchise player always have been always will be. But I can not, for the life of me, keep a franchise going. I lose interest. I currently have one with The Brew Crew a team I admire, but I'm bored. I'll have a solid run at it and then quit and when I want to play, I want to start a new franchise.
Let me me explain how I play the game, this year I would sim from the start of the season to the draft or depending on the record, first of July. Then I play ever 6th game and all of the playoff if I make it.i enjoy it this way, makes the season shorter and I play more meaningful games.
So my question is how do you keep the game alive? Should I do a 30 team control? That way if I get bored I can play with anew team without having to restart fully. Should I limit myself to trades and free agency and try and keep it mostly realistic? Any tips on how to keep the game alive its much appreciated.
