        Cardinals sweep Reds in Cincinnati

The Cardinals (11-10) earned their first sweep of the season as they took all 3 games against the Reds in Cincinnati over the weekend.

The Cardinals won the series opener on Friday behind a stellar performance from Miles Mikolas. Mikolas went 7 innings allowing zero runs on 2 hits and striking out 7. The Cardinals got the games lone run in the Top of the 8th when Tyler O'Neill drew a 2 out bases loaded walk. Alex Reyes and Giovany Gallegos would close out the 8th and 9th for the 1-0 victory.

Saturday was another pitchers duel although Dakota Hudson only lasted 6 innings as he would continue to get into deep counts, but he left with the score tied at 1-1 and didn't get a decision. Jordan Hicks would earn the win as to pitched a perfect 7th, after the Cards to a 2-1 lead thanks to a solo homerun by Tyler O'Neill. Once again Giovanny Gallegos would earn the save.

Sundays game was different as both teams had the bats going. The Cardinals had ace Jack Flaherty on the bump, and while he earned his 3rd win and stuck out 8, he only got thru 5 innings leaving for a pinch hitter in the 6th with a 4-3 lead. The Cardinals would get up 6-3 and then that man again, Tyler O'Neill extended the lead in the 8th with a two run blast into the left field seats. The Reds would again make it interesting in the 8th when T.J. McFarland gave up a 2 run bomb to Mike Moustakas who hit the ball clear out of the ballpark making it 8-5. Genesis Cabrera would come into the game with 2 outs in the 9th to relieve Ryan Helsley who had gotten into a jam, with 2 on and 2 outs and Joey Votto coming up. Cabrera would strike out Votto after an epic 13 pitch at bat to end the game.

The Cardinals will return home Monday for a 4 game series with the Mets.

A Trip Around the Bases of the League

1st) Clayton Kershaw is 4-0 with a 1.68 ERA with the Rangers

2nd) Dodgers 3B Justin Turner leads the majors in batting average at an even .400

3rd) Twins will be without Sonny Gray for appx 2 months due to an elbow injury

Home) Jack Flaherty now leads the majors in strikeouts with 44.

The Twins traveled to the South Side of Chicago to battle division rival White Sox on opening day in the MLB. Twins fans are optimistic to challenge the Sox for the AL Central crown this season so all eyes were on this game. Specifically, new signing Carlos Correa, and to see if star CF Byron Buxton can take that next step to superstardom.

The first 5 innings were all about pitching, though. Opening day starter Sonny Gray showed that Twins fans can have faith in him to anchor the rotation. He didn’t give up a hit until the 5th inning, and finished the day pitching 7 full, 4 hits, no walks and 6 strikeouts with 0 ER. He put on a pitching CLINIC today and the Sox could barely touch him.

It wasn’t all good for the Twins at the start of the game. Lance Lynn of the Sox had then looking foolish through the first 5 innings , racking up 3 strikeouts and holding the Twins to 1 hit.

Then, the top of the 6th came and the Twins found their bats. A hit by lead off man Byron Buxton (who was 0-2 with 2 strikeouts at this point) , followed by a single from Luis Arraez brought Jorge Polanco to the plate who proceeded to stroke a 2 run single to center to give the Twins their first points of the season.

Gio Urshela hit the first Twins HR of the season in the 8th, and the Buxton got his second hit of the game in the 9th to bring in Jake Cave for a score after he walked.

Taylor Rogers came into the game in the bottom of the 9th and shut the door on any Sox comeback to secure the win for the Twins on Opening Day!

            Buxton: 2-4 , 1 RBI
            Jorge Polanco: 2-4, 2 RBI
            Gio Urshela: 2-4, 1 HR
            Carlos Correa: 0-4

            Sonny Gray: 7 IP, 4H, 6SO

Will be back for an update after the conclusion of the Sox series !
Minnesota Twins (1-0) @ Chicago White Sox (0-1)

Game 2: The second game of the 3 game series opener was another victory for the Twins! Scoring 5 runs in the 1st inning got them off to a hot start and they never looked back, winning the game 7-4.

Byron Buxton had 2 hits, Luis Arraez hit an HR and chipped in 2 RBIs, and Jorge Polanco had 2 RBIs as well. The man of the hour was Max Kepler. He went 3-4, with a double, and 3 RBIs on the day. Definitely the game MVP. Kenta Maeda had a strong showing on the mound, trying to show Twins fans they have nothing to worry about when it comes to starting pitching this season. He threw 7 IP, allowed 7 hits, 2 ER, and had 4 strikeouts to go along with it. Rogers came in the 9th to shut the game down and send the Twins to 2-0 on the season.

Minnesota Twins (2-0) @ Chicago White Sox (0-2)

Game 3: If games 1 & 2 gave Twins fans all the hope in the world for the 2022 season, game 3 sent them crashing way back down to earth. The Sox dismantled us by a score of 11-2. We only had 5 hits all game, and our 2 runs game from Carlos Correas' first HR of the season in the 7th, drove in 2. The 7th inning is also where it fell apart for the Twins pitching-wise. SP Joe Ryan only pitched 5 innings and gave up 5 hits, 4 ER, and 3 BB. Not a good outing at all.

The Twins had hope in the top of the 7th when they scored those 2 runs to cut the lead in half, but, the bullpen imploded and let the Sox score 7 runs in the 7th frame. Jorge Alcala allowed 4 runs on two hits, and then Jharel Cotton gave up 3 on 3 hits. It was an all-around miserable display for the pitching staff today and the Twins will for sure be looking to put this one behind them ASAP. Max Kepler continued his hot streak going 2-3 in the game. Correa seems to be finding his groove as well, going 2-4 and an HR.

Up next, another division rival as we take on the Indians for a 3 game series away from home.

            Season Record: 2-1

I'm 4 games in to my Oakland A's franchise. 2-2 record.

Fantasy draft. I had the 15th overall pick and selected Wander Franco.

After that I went heavy on young pitching, Trevor Rogers, Dustin May, Shane McClahahan, Chris Paddack, Garrett Crochet, James Karinchak, Devin Williams......

So other than Franco, my position players are an assorted group of role players. So I'll be scouting heavily this first year, especially for outfielders.

This is going to be a fun year.

                  SEATTLE MARINERS FANTASY FRANCHISE:

Seattle came into the draft not sure what to expect from the other teams, and without knowing their pick. They couldn't form a good gameplan besides wanting to get a Star Hitter and a Ace Pitcher with the first 2 picks.

The Mariners came into the office and looked on the league draft board and noticed they have the 18th Pick.

As the draft started the biggest names in MLB were flying off the board, players like DeGrom, Trout, Acuna, Ohtani etc.

The Mariners brass and fans were starting to get worried they wouldn't be able to get any of the Star players. As the draft finally got to the Mariners at the 18th pick they immediately knew who they were building around.

With the Mariners First Pick in Round 1 the Seattle Mariners choose.......

RF MOOKIE BETTS 87 B Potential

Seattle loved Betts all around game to hit for power/average and versatility to play Gold Glove defense at all 3 Outfield positions and 2B.

As the 2ND Round came around to the Mariners they had already made up their mind they were getting their Ace pitcher with this pick.

Seattle chose last year's Cy Young Winner.....

SP ROBBIE RAY 84 B Potential

Speaking to reporters about why Ray with the 2nd pick. Mariners Brass responded with "We love his bulldog, come right at you mentality. And of course leading the league in Strikeouts and Innings pitched plus winning the Cy Young. That was just something we couldn't pass on"

The Mariners next 8 picks went as:

                  3: SP Noah Snydergaard 83 B
                  4: SP Frankie Montas 81 B

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

                      May (28-26):
The Cubs put together a 16-11 month of May to keep themselves afloat and very much alive in the NL Central which has the Cardinals leading by only 0.5 a game with a 29-26 record.

The Cubs continue to be led by early Cy Young candidate Kyle Hendricks (4-0, 86IP, 1.78ERA) who is having a huge bounceback season. His battery mate Wilson Contreras has been the best hitter in the lineup with a .281/.327/13HR/33RBI line. Willy’s name has been all over in trade talks, but with the Cubs fighting for the division, a trade seems to become less likely.

The Cubs did call up 23 year old OF Prospect (#16 in Cubs system) Nelson Velazquez to try to bring a boost to CF as Heyward is hitting .135 in 66AB’s. Velazquez also struggled in his debut month hitting .065 in 31AB’s.

The Cubs find themselves 23rd in AVG, 21st in Runs, 23rd in HR’s and 25th in OBP, all ranking in the lower half of the league. The other side of the ball the Cubs are blowing away expectations, the new look team is 1st in fielding %, 6th in ERA, and has allowed the least amount of walks in the MLB. As the calender turns to June, the trade talks heat up and when GM of the Cubs eric7064 was asked about the possibility of the Cubs being buyers at the deadline he was hesitant to commit

“We really like our group we have here. We have avoided the injury bug thus far, and seem to be finding a groove. This month was a good one, and we hope we can continue that in June and look forward to competing for the NL central.”

In other words, don’t expect a big splash trade to get this team over the hump, but when the division is so winnable this year, its hard not to take a bigger shot.

Cubs head into June 28-26, with the draft among the first things to do, where they will have the #7 pick.

Edit: June 1st game I lose Madrigal on the 1st pitch of the game for 2-3 weeks. Why did I mention I had no injuries so far.

Tough luck. The same day I DFA Heyward I lose not only Suzuki to injury but also Clint Frazier. Suzuki out 1-2 weeks. Frazier out 1-2 months. Brennan Davis had 2 singles and an rbi in his debut tho.

The Blue Jays announce their opening roster for the 2022 season. There was some good competition during spring training and the depth of this team is impressive to say the least. Without further ado, here it is:

Just finished April and it might be time to DFA Drew Smyly and call up Caleb Killian or Jordan Wicks. Both in triple a and have an era under 2. And Smyly is struggling. Would move Justin Steele to the bullpen who has an ERA over 5.

Wound up restarting my Blue Jays franchise, as I needed to adjust my settings a bit. Using Dynamic Difficulty, currently at HOF hitting (Directional) and All-Star+ pitching (Classic). We're off to a 6-3 start following a 3-game sweep of the Rangers.

Made a few adjustments to the lineup, most notably being Raimel Tapia is the every day LF and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is the DH. I wanted Tapia in the lineup for his defense, but he's proven to be our best hitter the first two weeks. Vlad Jr. has caught fire and has 5 HRs, and Gurriel isn't far behind with 4.

This team is such a blast to use, but definitely see some cracks in the back end of the rotation and bullpen, so that'll be something I continue to assess and monitor; trades to upgrade will likely be pursued as the season rolls on.
