Cardinals earn first series win of 2022 season

The Cardinals (7-8) got their first series win of the 2022 season by taking 3 of 4 against the Brewers in Milwaukee.

The Cardinals won Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and were going for the sweep on Sunday, but couldn't pull it off. Dakota Hudson was again roughed up, allowing 4 homeruns in 5 innings as the Cardinals fell 5-0 to the Brewers. It could've been worse if not for some timely double plays.

Adam Wainwright earned his first victory of the new year on Thursday night in which he went 6 innings striking out 5 while giving up 1 run on 4 hits. The bullpen pitched a perfect 7th, 8th, and 9th to close out the 5-1 victory. The offense was led by Lars Nootbar of all people who recorded 3 RBI's on the night.

Steven Matz got the ball Friday and for the 3rd start this year, he didn't see the 6th inning as the Brewers knocked him around. Kodi Whitley would earn the victory pitching in the 6th and 7th after the Cardinals, who were trailing 6-2, exploded for 6 runs in the inning behind Tyler O'Neill first homerun of the season, a 3 run bomb that capped off the rally. Giovanny Gallegos earned his 3rd save of the season closing out the game.

Miles Mikolas got the ball Saturday and was fantastic yet again. He's now 2-0 in 3 starts this year after pitching 8 innings allowing 2 runs on 6 hits and striking out a season high 13. He had started the 9th but issued a walk to Hunter Renfroe and then Andrew McCutchen hit a 2 run bomb chasing him from the game. Nick Wittgren would close out the game, although not a save situation, as the Cardinals won 9-2.

On Sunday the Cards were going for the sweep but Dakota Hudson just couldn't get going. He last 5 innings allowing 4 homeruns and 4 walks. If not for some timely double plays and great glovework by the defense, it could've been worse. The Cards bats were silent only getting 3 hits and never plating a run.

The Cardinals are off on Monday as they will travel to Miami for a 3 game series with the Marlins.

A Trip Around the Bases of the League

1st) David Peralta hit his 100th career homerun

2nd) Andrew McCutchen has now hit safely in 11 straight games

3rd) The Red Sox has baseballs longest winning streak (10 games)

Home) 3 weeks into the season, the Pirates are the only team above .500 in the NL Central (10-6)

Started my franchise this morning and one thing I noticed for the first time is that player ratings, and specifically their splits, are actually able to exceed 99. Has this always been the case and maybe I've missed it?

San Diego Padres Fulfilling Destiny (update 2)
Game5: Colorado Rockies @ San Diego Padres Chad Kuhl vs Sean Manaea.
0-0 through four and Sean Manaea's debut was off and running in San Diego. In the top of the 5th, things fell off the rails. Randall Grichuk went yard with the first pitch he saw, a hanging curve. Then a sac fly by Diaz scored Blackmon to make it 2-0 in favor of The Rockies. Manaea went 7 innings and minus the 5th played relatively well, but the Padre bats did him no favors. 4 hits, no runs. Chad Kuhl went 8 innings only throwing 91 pitches, finishing the day with 6 strikeouts and only allowing base runner to advance as far as 2nd base.
2 game series: a straight forward 2-1 win for San Diego as Yu Darvish gets his first win of the season split the early season 2 game series.
Around The Diamond: After 1 week of games, The Houston Astros are 6-0. Jared Walsh is hitting .500 for the halos after 26 at bats with 5 hr's. Jarred Kellenic is starting strong with a .600 OBS proving he belongs in the big leagues.

Country great to see you getting going! I have a question for you (do not have the game), how are you finding the fun stats for players? Do you look around at each team after each game/series, or is there a clicker/stat tracker somewhere? I have not fully gone in a The Show game in about 3-4 years...the itch is returning...

The score ticker at the bottom now includes news from the around the league which includes milestones and just stats from players (Bryce Harper goes 5 for 5 in win vs Marlins)

I do look at boxscores after games as well, but most of my fun facts are from the ticker, or just from looking around at stats, team rankings, etc...

Do W-L records show up on daily calendar this year? I really missed that last year.

                  They do not.

I have submitted feedback to SDS to see if they can be added. They are looking into it.

Brubaker leaves the game early again this time with an inflamed nerve day to day. The Bullpen comes through holding the Brewers to one run while Vogelbach homers again 2-1 Pirates.

Mitch Keller gets hit hard again giving up 5 through 4 innings of work. Might have to think about sending him down soon if he doesn’t turn things around. The Brewers win 7-4.

Franchise Settings: HOF Hitting, Legend Pitching. Play first 10 games, then 1 game a series. All playoff games.

                        April (12-15):
The Cubs began the month with some big news as they announced a 5YR/60M extension for IF/OF Ian Happ. The 27 year old was set to become a free agent after 2023, but the Cubs feel like they have seen enough to warrant an extension before opening day.

The Cubs went 12-15 in the first month in the season, in about an as expected performance overall. This Cubs team was not expected to compete, but the NL Central is wide for the taking with only the Cardinals (16-13) finishing with an above .500 record.

The Cubs have been led by Hendricks (1.99ERA, 45IP, 6Starts), Stroman (2.81ERA, 41IP, 6Starts), and Wade Miley (2.59ERA, 41IP, 6starts) as they have helped the Cubs to the 9th best ERA in the MLB, along with a relatively strong pen.

The problem thus far has been the offense as 4 regular’s are under the .240 average mark, and the team is 19th in AVG and OBP in the MLB. Ian Happ (.300, 6HR, 15RBI) and 3B Patrick Wisdom (.308, 7HR, 11RBI) have been the best performers, while leadoff man Madirgal (.236AVG, 6RBI) and 1B Frank Schwindel (.200AVG, 6RBI) have struggled mightily. Madrigal was batting .140 a week ago, and has been surging at the end of the month.

The Cubs do have a problem in CF, as Heyward is simply unplayable with a .114 AVG. The fans are eager to see top prospect OF Brennen Davis make his MLB debut soon, but even he has been struggling through 65 AB’s in AAA hitting .154.

The Cubs will look towards May to try and get closer to .500 as they sit 4GB of the Cardinals who sit atop the NL Central.

Cardinals activate Harrison Bader from IL

The Cardinals have activated OF Harrison Bader from the 10 day IL. Bader was there due to a knee sprain.

Bader will return to the lineup for tomorrow's game against the Marlins.

OF Justin Toerner was optioned to Memphis to create a roster spot.

Guardians and Phillies strike early deal

The Guardians and the Phillies have struck an early season deal. The Phillies will acquire SP Cal Quantrill from the Guardians in exchange for 1B Rhys Hoskins.

Both players have controllable years on their contracts.

This seems to be a deal in which both teams have depth at the position traded and are looking to add depth in places of early need.

It may not make a ton of sense irl but I’m seriously considering DFAing Jason Heyward. Yea he’s owed a lot of money and under contract for another year but I need a roster spot for Brennan Davis.
