Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

I'm playing on PS5 as The Braves just doing one game at a time. I have a lot on my plate so I may even be playing this current season into next year and not even get The Show 23, we'll see.

So far I'm 2-0 against the Marlins. First game was 2-0. Second game was 5-2. I'm playing on Veteran as I haven't played The Show since 19 and don't want to be overwhelmed, I'll adjust the difficulty as I go.

Haven't had any freezes yet and I'm very happy with the gameplay. I'm away from my PS5 right now or I'd post something more in-depth.

Cardinals take 3 of 4 from Giants in San Francisco

The Cardinals (19-15) took 3 games of a 4 game series against the Giants in San Francisco over the weekend. The Cardinals now lead the NL Central by a game over the Cubs.

The Cardinals were going for the sweep on Sunday, but blew a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 9th when Curt Casali hit a 3 run bomb off of Miles Mikolas who was one strike, one out away from a complete game shutout. The Giants would win in the 10th inning.

The Cardinals bats woke up Saturday when they posted 15 runs on 16 hits including 4 homeruns and 3 doubles.

The Cardinals are off on Monday as they travel back home to welcome the Orioles to Busch Stadium for a 3 game series.

Harrison Bader to the IL with Abdominal Strain

The Cardinals have placed starting centerfielder Harrison Bader on the 10 day IL due to an abdominal strain. Bader suffered the injury outside the ballpark.

No roster move was needed as Tyler O'Neill was activated from the 10 day IL on the off day Monday.

The Cardinals have designated SP Steven Matz for assignment. The 30 year old signed a 4 year deal in the offseason, but he has been nothing short of a liability on the mound this year. Matz has started 7 games and is 1-4 in those starts with an ERA of 7.12, WHIP 1.50, and he's only pitched in 36.2 innings. In those innings he has given up 48 hits including 12 homeruns.

Not sure how the Cardinals will proceed whether they will assign him to the minors or see if there is a market for him.

LHP Brandon Waddell was recalled from Memphis as the Cardinals determine how they will proceed.
A little early to pull the plug on him maybe? I did a Rays season last year and Rich Hill was awful. In June he finally snapped out of it,(or I learned how to pitch with him) and until I traded him he was serviceable, innings eater until I got to the bullpen. Quietly watching your progress Country, keep battling

            Cardinals drop series to Orioles

The Cardinals (20-17)dropped 2 games of the 3 game series with the Orioles in St.Louis. The Cardinals are now tied with the Cubs atop the NL Central Division.

The Cardinals lost Tuesday night despite getting the best start out of Dakota Hudson on the season. Hudson went 7 innings allowing no runs on 3 hits and struck out 5. The game would go 15 innings before a run was even scored, much less a winner determined. Cedric Mullins hit a 2 run homerun with 2 outs in the Top of the 15th off of Brandon Waddell to give the O's the lead and the win.

On Wednesday, Jack Flaherty got the ball and again was solid. Flaherty would last just 6 innings but he allowed just 2 runs on 5 hits and stuck out 9. He now leads the NL in strikeouts with 61. He would also notch his 6th win of the season and is still perfect at 6-0 this year. The bats helped out primarily Anderson Tejeda who went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI's. Tyler O'Neill's 3 run homerun in the 6th was the difference of the game pushing the lead to 6-2. The Cards would go on to win 7-3.

Thursdays finale saw Adam Wainwright get knocked around as he gave up 6 runs over 6 innings of work. The bullpen wasn't much better, nor were the bats, as the Cardinals would lose in lopsided fashion, 13-2. Anthony Santander hit a monster bomb that I'm not sure was contained by state boundaries.

The Cardinals will remain home as the Giants come to town for a 3 game weekend series. T.J Zeuch is being called up from Memphis to start Friday as the Cardinals figure out their rotation with Steven Matz not in it.

Steven Matz claimed by the Rockies off of waivers

The Colorado Rockies have claimed 30 year old Steven Matz off waivers from the Cardinals. The Cards placed Matz, who signed a 4 year contract this past offseason, on waivers due to him struggling horribly for the Cards.

Now the Cardinals will look to see how to fill out their rotation with Matz gone. It could be by committee with minor leaguers for the time being.

              Cardinals sweep the Giants

The Cardinals (23-17) swept the Giants in Busch Stadium over the weekend and won the season series 6-1. Crazy to think the two teams won't meet again this year and played 7 games in the span of 11 days.

The Cardinals still trail the Cubs by 1/2 game in the NL Central Divison.

The Cardinals got a surprise outing from T.J. Zeuch who was called up for a spot start Friday night and ended up going 6.2 innings allowing just one run on 6 scattered hits and striking out 5. Goldy, O'Neill and a solo homerun by Anderson Tejeda provided the offense. The bullpen did their job giving up zero runs on one hit over 2.1 innings. Giovanny Gallegos earned his 8th save of the season.

Saturday saw Miles Mikolas get the ball. Mikolas went 6 innings giving up 3 runs on 6 hits and only recorded 2 strikeouts. But once again the bullpen did its job getting Mikolas the victory (4-1) by pitching 3 solid innings where they allowed no runs and no hits. Giovanny Gallegos recorded his 2nd save in as many nights and has 9 on the season. Paul DeJong hit a 3 run homerun in the first and Goldy added an RBI single for the scoring.

Sunday's finale saw Dakota Hudson take the bump. He was coming off his best outing of the season in his last start which was a no decision so he was hoping for better results. Hudson would go 5.2 innings giving up 4 hits and 2 runs and walking 3. But again the bullpen preserved the win, although it wasn't smooth and big offense really helped, but Hudson (2-3) got his 2nd win of the season. Paul Goldschmidt and Corey Dickerson were the only offense the Cards would need as they combined for 3 homeruns (Goldy 2 - Dickerson 1) and all 8 RBI's (Goldy 5 - Dickerson 3)

The Cardinals will now travel Queens for a 4 game series with the Mets starting tomorrow night. And Monday night's pitching matchup should be a good one to watch as Jack Flaherty will square off against Max Scherzer.

And now back by no demand....

A Trip Around the Bases of the League

1st) Defending World Series Champion Braves are 20-20 thus far and 3rd in the East. 6 1/2 back of Mets

2nd) Cubs have won 6 straight to propel themselves into first place of the NL Central

3rd) Thru a quarter of the season (~ 40 games) the AL East is a 4 team battle, although the Orioles are the 4th team and not the Rays. O's are 3.5 back of Red Sox and share identical 21-20 record with the Yankees

Home) Teoscar Hernandez is showing out thus far hitting .319 with 13 HR (MLB Best) and 39 RBI (MLB Best)

I sent 2B Haggerty down and called up Kelenic to DH before this game. Awesome he delivered with 6th inning solo homer to give us a 1-0 lead and knock Ohtani out of the game.
Saurez is on my bench with Toro at 3B. Saurez is just so bad for me to try to hit with.
Was a great way to come back with strong pitching for game two after getting ripped apart in game one.

I will be using the Seattle Mariners during my franchise. I have seen others posting full box scores for each game so that all stats are viewable. Does anyone know how to make this happen? Is there a specific app I could download to my phone/computer and use while I play? I just like being as realistic as possible. Thank you.

The Toronto Blue Jays sit at 4-3 which is good for second in the AL East behind the 8-0 Yankees. They swept Baltimore, while going 1-2 against a frustrating Rays team. Finally, they dropped the first game against Texas after a few frustrating errors cost them a 2 run lead late in the game.

On the positive side, the home runs are plentiful. Matt Chapman leads the way with 5. Bichette, Jansen and Hernandez have two. Springer, Gurriel, Kirk, Espinal, and Biggio all have one. The rotation has been a positive note. Both Berrios and Gusman have had 4 strong outings between them including a 9 inning shutout from Berrios against Tampa. Kikuchi had a nice 6 inning quality start, while Ryu was knocked around in his opener. Manoah was pitching well until an injury occurred and he will miss the next two weeks with a mild shoulder strain. Nate Pearson was recalled and either him or Stripling will make Manoah’s next scheduled start.

Now for the not so good. The bullpen has not been great. Romano saved his first two games, but blew two 2-run leads in a row now in his last two save attempts. Stripling and Merryweather have both been hit hard. Cimber has been giving up too many home runs. Richards, Borucki and Garcia have been the only bright spots. Mayza went on the IL with a finger injury and will likely be out a couple of weeks. The team decided to call up Ryan Buchter who was in AAA after signing a minor league deal and will get some run as another lefty next to Borucki.

The Jays spent little time addressing this. They sent Merryweather to AAA and signed Trevor Rosenthal to a 1 year major league deal. Rosenthal will provide late inning strikeout ability and will help provide some closer depth to a struggling bullpen.

Finally, Vlad has been off to a horrible start which is not what this team expected or needed. Currently, he is hitting .170 with 0 HR and 1 RBI. He has one error and has grounded into too many double plays. The Jays will hope that he can work it out and get back to chasing a MVP. It seems like he is chasing and trying to hard at the moment. Maybe Toronto drops him down in the lineup to see if he can figure it out. I expect them to give him a few more weeks before making that decision.

Also, fielding has been poor. Bo Bichette has committed 3 errors already in 7 games. Also, two straight errant throws by Gurriel and Vlad against Texas last game led to two runs scoring and tying the game. Toronto would go ahead in the 8th, but Romano blew it in the 9th after giving up a 2-run homer to Solak on a slider well below the strike zone.

Next up, the Jays finish play two more against the Rangers with Ryu and Pearson / Stripling expected to get the starts. Then it’s off to New York for a 4 game set to start a hectic first month of their schedule. Let’s hope they manage to settle in a rattle off a few wins against a tough AL East.

Wainwright was two outs away from a no hitter but pitches a 1 hit shutout to send the Cardinals on a nice win streak pulling to within 4 games of the division leading Brewers.

The Dodgers also offered SP David Price for a AA marginal player, so the Cardinals made the trade. Price will slot in as the 5th starter as they await the return of Jack Flaherty.

Next series opener against the Brewers, Nolan Arenado would smash a 3 run homer to lift the Cardinals to a 4-1 win. Cardinals are now only 3 games behind the Brewers.

San Diego Padres: Trade Pays Off Immediately Against Cincy
**** Trade: Chris Paddock & Emilio Pagan for Taylor Rogers and Brent Rooker. Rogers has been an effective closer at a 3.15 ERA and Rooker is powerful but struggled to make contact at the plate in the early season. San Diego immediately moves Taylor Rogers to the closer role and has outfield depth, meanwhile Minnesota gets Paddock and 3 yrs of team control to see him develop and hopefully reach his full potential.

                                Game 18: ( 9-7) Cincinnati Reds @ (9-8) San Diego Padres
                                Luis Castillo vs Blake Snell
The long ball wins it for The Padres. A Jurickson Profar homerun and a debut appearance, 2 run home run by Brent Rooker was all that was needed to hand Castillo the loss. Blake Snell went 6 innings and the relievers completed the shut out. Pomeranz gets what will amount to probably his last save for a while as Taylor Rogers is expected to take over the closer position in the near future.
                                W: Blake Snell 6 Inn, 3 H, 4 K.
                                L: Luis Castillo 6 Inn, 3 H, 1 ER, 5 K

                                Series:
Padres take 2 out of 3 in the series. Musgrove lost game 2, giving up 3 runs in 6 innings. The Padres welcome The Los Angeles Dodgers to San Diego for a 3 game weekend series. LA hopes to turn things around as surprisingly they have lost 10 of their last 14 and sit at 8-11 in the early season.
