Legends Mets Franchise (30 Team Control) Mets vs Nationals (Games 1-3, 2022)

The Mets kicked of their 2022 campaign with a series at home against the Washington Nationals. Two teams headed in different directions. The Mets went out and spent money on Scherzer, Canha, Marte, and Escobar with hopes to bring the World Series trophy back to Queens. The Nationals are in a rebuilding mode despite having one of the best talents in the world in Juan Soto. Despite Soto the Nationals are considered the worst team in the NL East

    Game 1- OPENING DAY
Opening day turned out to be a mix of what you would expect with a mix of a surprise. The game featured the best pitcher on the planet in Jacob deGrom against Patrick Corbin of the Nationals. The game started out as you would expect with deGrom striking out the side in the first inning and getting into a rhythm that would carry on for 7 strong innings. He would keep the batters off balance the entire game and finished with 7 innings of shutout baseball allowing only 2 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 10. What we did not see coming was Patrick Corbin. He looked every much the part of his 2019 form when the Nationals won the World Series and was dealing himself. Locking up the Mets with a good mix of pitches as he went 6 and two thirds allowing 3 hits, 4 walks, struck out 3 and kept the Mets scoreless as when both pitchers exited after 7 the score was 0-0. The Game would actually stay that way as both pens would dominate and it was apparent that all the bats were left in Florida as this game would remain 0-0 after 12. The 13th inning someone would finally break through as in the bottom of the inning with Canha starting a second base a first pitch single by Jeff McNeil got the Mets to first and third and nobody out. Tomas Nido who had come in late in the game for James McCann would send a 2-2 fastball to CF that Robles lined up and threw an absolute strike to home plate that Canha just beat out giving the Mets a walk off Sac Fly and the 1-0 victory in game 1

Final Score- Mets 1, Nationals 0 (13 Innings)

    Nationals 0 Runs, 4 Hits, 1 Error
    Mets 1 Run, 4 Hits, 0 Error

    Game 2
Lots of excitement lead up to game 2 as the Mets hometown faithful got there first regular season look at newly acquired Max Scherzer who signed a huge 3-year deal in the off-season. Not a single seat was empty for this one as Citi Field was buzzing. That buzz would end very quickly though as Mad Max did not have his A game stuff on this afternoon. Two batters into the game he was already down 2-0 on a Juan Soto big fly which would be the first of a 3 home run huge day for Soto. Took him 42 pitches to get out of the first inning. After Stephen Strausburg shut them down quick Scherzer rebounded in the second but then in the top of the third he gave up an RBI single with two outs to Soto once again and it was 3-0 after three innings. the 4th would go no better for Mad Max as after pitching around Soto he got Cruz to strike out but then super prospect Keibert Ruiz took him deep for a 2 run shot and just like that it was 5-0 after 4 and Scherzer was out of the game. While not the start we had hoped for the Mets had some come back magic in the bats. In the bottom of the 5th down 5-0 the Mets finally started to get to Strausburg. After a couple bloop singles with 1 out Francisco Lindor hit an upper deck shot for a three run home run and quickly it was a 5-3 game. After Alonso struck out (Which he did the entire series more on that later) Eduardo Escobar hit a rope right down the line that cleared the wall and it was 5-4 after 5 innings. After a quick top of the 6th the Mets were back at the plate and facing the weak spot of the Nationals its bullpen which ranks 29 out of 30 in the league. And it showed. With two on and two out Brandon Nimmo would double into the gap off Austin Voth and the Mets came back from 5 runs down to take a 6-5 lead. That lead however would be short lived as in the top of the 7th the first pitch Juan Soto saw from Joely Rodriguez he hit for a bomb to center field and just like that we were tied 6-6 . Soto second home run of the game. But once again the bullpen would let the Nats down. In the bottom of the 7th with 2 on and one out Voth once again was victimized by long ball as he left a 3-1 pitch over the heart of the plate that Mark Cahna deposited into the left field stands for a 9-6 lead. two batters later with Sean Doolittle in Eduardo Escobar would hit his second home run of the game to CF and just like that after 7 it was 10-6 Mets lead. That would hold until the 9th when Trevor May would come in and ofc Juan Soto was not done as he would hit his THIRD homerun of the game to cut the lead to 10-7. Luckily for the Mets nobody else on the Nats was really hitting and the Mets would hold on to survive the 3 homer game from Soto and bad start from Scherzer for the 10-7 Win

Final Score- Mets 10, Nationals 7

    Nationals- 7 runs, 12 hits, 1 error
    Mets- 10 runs, 13 hits, 0 error

    Game 3
The final game of the series saw Chris Bassit go up against Josiah Gray. And while the Mets would take advantage of the rebuilding Nats for the sweep it would come at a cost. Bassit was brilliant in this one mixing his off speed pitches and went a solid 6 scoreless innings. And while Gray was not to bad himself he did get bit by the long ball as the Mets got a solo shot from Canha in the second inning and a 2 run shot from Nido in the 4th and at the end of 6 the Mets had a 4-0 lead. That lead would hold until the 9th when Ruiz of the Nationals hit his second home run of the series a solo shot and cut the lead to 4-1 Mets but that would be all they would need for the sweep. The big news in this one however though was Eduardo Escobar who the Mets signed this off season for a 2 year deal worth 20 million got injured diving for a ball in the 6th inning and after the game they got the worse news you could want. They found out he tore his ACL and he is done for the season. Bad break for a guy who had hit 2 home runs already in three games.

Final Score- Mets 4, Nationals 1

    Nationals 1 run, 6 hits, 0 error
    Mets 4 runs, 6 hits, 0 error

    Mets Moves
While the Mets have super prospect at 3B Brett Baty waiting in the wings they decided not to bring him up and will bring up Luis Guillmore to take the spot of Escobar for the moment while JD Davis will take over the starting role at 3B

    Around The League

Braves News- The Braves were also hit with the injury bug as Eddie Rosario torn his MCL and he is also out for the season. The Braves Called up Drew Waters to take his place.

Marlins News- The Marlins signed free agent catcher Tommy James to a 1 year deal and released (1B) Lorenzo Quintana from the team to make room.

Undefeated- 4 teams ended the first series of the year undefeated. Mets 3-0, Braves 4-0, Padres 4-0, Mariners 4-0

Next up for the Mets (3-0) is a quick two game series against division rival the Atlanta Braves (4-0)

      2022 Cubs

      August (67-67):
The Cubs slumped through August, and put together a 13-15 month to be exactly .500 heading into the last month of the season. Even still, the NL Central has yet to be won, as the Brewers (71-64) lead and the Cardinals (70-65) are right on their tail, while the Cubs hang in the distance. The Cubs are 6GB of the WC, so it is essentially division or bust as the Cubs try to find a spark in the last month.

The Cubs suffered more injuries, as UTIL David Bote (.237AVG,6HR,27RBI) has a torn pec, that will keep him out possibly for the rest of the season. Bote was already filling in for the injured 3B P.Wisdom, who should be back in mid-september. The Cubs have been having to rely on mid-season acquisition UTIL B.Miller from Texas, and rookie outfielder N.Velazquez who came back in the beginning of the month.

The bullpen has been absolutely awful the last couple months, only 3 pitchers in the pen have under a 4ERA (Huer, Robertson, Wick) while the rest of the pen has been getting teed off on, and the Cubs do not have the depth to make changes. They have to roll with the punches.

The rotation also has not held up as it did earlier in the year, as Stroman (2.77ERA) and Hendricks (3.71ERA) have solid ERA’s while the rest of the rotation has 4+ERA. Lefty Justin Steele was sent down to AAA after his ERA ballooned near a 5, and this caused the Cubs to call up top pitching prospect Caleb Killian. He was immediately be pushed into the rotation, and made 2 starts to moderate success (12IP, 4.50ERA).

The Cubs are hoping all the right things click for them in September, and they need them to. They start the month in a 3 game set vs STL, and afterwards they do not play STL or MIL anymore on the season. It will be scoreboard watching season on the North Side of Chicago, as the Cubs somehow remain in this race being right at .500 with 28 games left on the year.

        Cardinals (7-6)

Took a tough loss last night as the Cards fell in game 2 to the Brewers 6-5. Kolton Wong blasted a 2 run go ahead home run in the bottom of the 8th inning and that turned out to be the game winner for the Brewers as their closer came in and shut me down in the 9th. Tough way to lose, but we are trying to bounce back today against Corbin Burnes. I struggle against this guy a lot so it's gonna be a tough one for me I think.

Legends Mets Franchise (30 Team Control) Mets vs Nationals (Games 4-9, 2022)

            Game 4 vs Braves
The Mets squared off against the 4-0 Braves in a battle for first place. The Mets sent Tijuan Walker to the mound against Kyle Wright. Early on it looked as though the Mets were going to cruise to another victory as they scored 4 times in the first four innings on two homeruns. One by Cahna, and Nimmo and just like that the Mets were on top 4-0. However an easy victory was not in the cards as once the 5th inning arrived Walker who was mowing them down lost the plate. After back to back walks he would hit a batter to load the bases and that would bring Adam Duvall to the plate who would smack one into the gap to clear the bases making it 4-3. The Mets would add a 5th run in the 8th on a Lindor RBI Single which turned out they would need it as in the top of the 9th with Edwin Diaz on the mound Austin Riley would lead off with a homerun making it 5-4. Diaz would **** the next batter and the Mets would hold on to a 5-4 victory and move their record to 4-0 to start the season.

            Braves- 4 runs, 8 hits, 0 error
            Mets- 5 runs, 8 hits, 0 error

            Game 5 vs Braves
Tyler Megill was lights out for 6 innings. Brandon Nimmo hit 2 homeruns to take his total for 3 on the season despite only hitting .195. The Mets jump out early to a 6-0 lead as Charlie Morton walked 6 batters and was victimized by a Travis D"Arnaud throwing error. The Braves got some offense late on a Matt Olson 2 run dinger and a solo shot from Acuna but that would be all and the Mets would sweep the short 2 game set 7-3 to get out to a 5-0 start.

            Braves- 3 runs, 11 hits, 2 errors
            Mets- 7 runs, 7 hits, 1 error

The Mets (5-0) now head on the road to Washington to face the (2-3) Nationals.

            Game 6 at Nationals
Heading into Washington you would think with the Mets being 5-0 on the season, having deGrom on the mound and the Nationals being in rebuild mold should be an automatic 6 straight wins? You would be wrong. The Nationals game to play and deGrom had no idea what he was doing. deGrom was a victim of a Austin Riley HR early and a bunch of timely hits and the Mets were again baffled by Corbin just like on opening day and the Mets suffered their first loss of the season 7-2. deGrom went 5 innings, 5 hits 2 walks, and 5 earned runs. The loss dropped the Mets to 5-1 on the season.

            Mets- 2 runs, 8 hits, 0 error
            Nationals- 7 runs, 9 hits 0 error

            Game 7 at Nationals
Second start of the year for Mad Max and the Mets were looking for a rebound from his first start of the year that ended in only 4 innings. They got just that type of start and they would need it as the Bats did not show up once again for the Mets as Stephen Strausburg was dealing. But Mad Max was just a little bit better. Scherzer went 7 strong innings only allowing 2 hits, 1 walk and 0 runs. A clutch RBI single by JD Davis in the 6th put the Mets up 1-0 and that is all they would need. The Mets held on for a 1-0 win to get to 6-1 on the season and Mad Max his first win as a New York Met

            Mets- 1 run, 5 hits 0 error
            Nationals- 0 run, 5 hits 0 error

            Game 8 at Nationals
As the Mets entered the third game of this four game series they must have had the sense the Nationals game to play. Chris Bassit took the mound for the Mets fresh of his great performance a week ago against the Nationals and he was great once again. He mad one mistake in 6 innings and that was giving up a two run shot to Josh Bell. Sadly for him the Mets offense for a third straight game was barely seen. They were able to scratch out two runs late but that was not enough as the Nationals were up 3-0 at the time and held on for the win. The loss dropped the Mets to 6-2 and the Nationals moved to 4-4 on the early season

            Mets- 2 runs, 8 hits, 0 error
            Nationals- 3 runs, 9 hits, 0 error

            Game 9 at Nationals
The Mets looked to split the series and early on things did not look good as Tijuan Walker got rattled early and before he got out of the 2nd inning was down 2-0. The Mets would come back in the third on 4 straight singles to tie the game up at 2-2 heading to the 5th. This is when the game got a bit wild. After loading the bases with two outs Walker hung a slider that Lane Thomas demolished for a grand slam and a 6-2 Nats lead. The Mets looking defeated got a huge break in the 6th. With second and third and one out the Nats elected to bring in Austin Voth and his early 13.50 ERA. He interntionally walked Mark Canha to load the bases and after James McCann worked the count full he took a 3-2 fastball over the center field fence for his own grand slam and tied the game up at 6. Dave Martinez not happy with Voth and his struggles this year left him in despite having already thrown 42 pitches in relief and that turned out to be a punishment as the next inning he gave up a solo home run to Brandon Nimmo and later a 3 run homerun to Mark Cahna and the Mets were able to blow the game wide open and win 11-6 to split the series and move to 7-2 on the season

            Mets- 11 runs, 14 hits, 0 error
            Nationals- 6 runs, 6 hits, 0 error

            Mets News and Notes
Mark Canha leads all Mets players with 5 homeruns this season. He only hit 17 all of last season

Pete Alonso is struggling with only 3 hits and 4 walks in 36 at bats this season. He has yet to hit a home run

Mets starters while brilliant at times have yet to go past the 7 innings in any start. On Average going 6 innings

            News Around The League

The Padres have the best record in the NL with a 9-1 start

The Angels have the best record in the AL at 8-2

Ronald Acuna is off to a monster start with a .453 average and 6 homeruns

Yasmani Grandal leads the American League early on with 6 homeruns

Mookie Betts for the Dodgers suffered a broken arm and will be out a minimum of two months.

Next up the Mets (7-2) travel to Philadelphia to face the (4-4) Phillies
Mets Baseball, All Day Every Day

So weird yet intriguing seeing someone else tackle a Mets Franchise! I will be following along as I get around to my own. Also, I feel like the Mets wouldn't trade Carrasco irl but I think your trade was great.

Yeah I only did it to cut salary since with 30 team control to keep things fair in the off season I give each team its own salary cap and we were over it. Now we are under it a few million. Based on his salary and injury issues a B level prospect I felt was the best we could get for him.

Cardinals drop 3 of 4 to Mets

The Cardinals (24-20) dropped 3 of 4 games to the Mets in New York to begin the week. The Cardinals now trail the Cubs by 3.5 games in the NL Central.

Not much of an update here because not much to talk about. Bats were non-existent and pitching unfortunately couldn't pitch shutouts each game.

Cardinals will take the short trip to Pittsburgh for a 3 game weekend series with the Pirates to end the road trip.

This thread is open to any gameplay discussion right? Just making sure.

Playing spring training with my Dodgers and I’m noticing a trend continuing from previous years games where I simply cannot hit with certain players and it drives me crazy. I can’t buy a hit with Max Muncy and right now with Will Smith (although I have no problem with him in 21).

I also had this problem with Justin Turner in 19 through 21 but so far I have success with him in 22. I know it’s all mental on my part but it’s frustrating. Muncy is the worst for me. I just never get a hit with him. Ironically Cody Bellinger is a stud in my games lol, hitting over 300 regularly.

Tigers(14-6) Break out Brooms at Home vs Yankees(15-5)

Wow, that's about all I can say about this offense. A crazy bounce back from the slump that they were in during the KC series. What a performance by the Tigers lineup top to bottom over the course of the three games. They took advantage of a Yankees team that had a pitching staff in the bottom third of many statistics, including ERA, HR Allowed, and Hits Allowed. Of course it wasn't easy, as the Tigers are also closer to the bottom than the top in many pitching categories, but they got it done. A team is now averaging 6.4 runs a game, only got 4.33 per game. So a big step up for the pitching staff.

Game 1 started off with 4 Tigers runs in the first 2 innings off of Montgomery, and Pineda played well again as he has been the most consistent starter, and improved to 3-0. Game 2 was fun as well, as it took a 5 run 5th for the Tigers to pull ahead 6-1, and they neevr looked back, as they took the W 7-4. The finale came down to the wire, as the Yankees took the lead on a 2 run Rizzo HR in the T8 to break the 4-4 tie. But the Tigers would string together 6, yes SIX straight hits to break the game open 9-6, and give Chaffin a big enough lead to not even have to sweat to get the save. With a Cabrera 2 run single, Baez RBI Triple, followed by a Candy 2 run homer, the three most productive Tigers hitters as of so far pulled through to send the dark side back home to New York winless.

Next up are the Rockies(3-15) coming to town for a 3 game series. This continues what has been actually a pretty easy April schedule for the Tigers, besides NYY and the upcoming LAD, so it will be interesting to see how they handle the dog days.

                      Players Spotlight:
Javy Baez, has hit 11 HR, with 21 RBI, 4 SB, and .338/.400/.901 so far this season.

Miguel Cabrera has 27 hits, leading the team, as well as a homer, 10 RBIs, while hitting .325/.348/.386 so far.

Finally, Jeimer Candelario who is hitting .309/.356/.632 with 6 homers, 19 RBI as well.

These three have been instremental in the success of this offense, and hopefully they can continue to carry this team along.

                          2022 Arizona Diamondbacks 04/18-04/21

                          Overall Record:12-7 (2nd NL West)

Arizona holds off late game 4 surge by Washington to take series 3-1

The Diamondbacks and Nationals faced off in a four game series in which pitching was key. Games one through three ended up in shut outs (2-0 WSH, 2-0 ARZ and 5-0 ARZ).

Game one was decided on a Josh Bell two run blast in the 7th inning, ruining a great start for Zac Gallen (7.0 IP 3 H 2 R 9 SO).

Game two saw Seth Beer and Pavin Smith hit solo homers in back to back innings as Madison Bumgarner pitched his best game of the young season (9.0 IP 6 H 0 R 8 SO).

Game three saw a hot start for Arizona as Josh Rojas led off the game with a solo home run, his team leading fifth of the season. The inning would continue as Pavin Smith doubled and Ketel Marte's single would knock him in. The first inning would turn bad to worse for Washington as Alcides Escobar threw an errant ball to second on a Carson Kelly ground ball. On the error, Kelly would end up on second while Marte made his way to third. A David Peralta ground out would score Marte which would end the scoring in the top of the first with Arizona taking the 3-0 lead.

The rest of the game would be dominated by the Diamondbacks second consecutive complete game shut out as Merril Kelly started and closed out the game.

The last game of the series was more competitive for both teams and ended with a six out save for Mark Melancon, his ninth in the first month of the season.

Arizona will return home for their second consecutive weekend series with the New York Mets (9-10) who they won two of three against a week prior.

                          League News
In the first major trade of the 2022 regular season, The Royals received relief pitcher A.J Minter (28 YO 79 OVR B POT) while sending the Braves starting pitcher Brad Keller (26 YO 74 OVR B POT).

*note* I accidentally brought Melancon into the game in the 8th inning, thinking it was the 9th. Juan Soto hit his 100th career homerun and was followed up by a Nelson Cruz solo homer and a Josh Bell single before Melancon was able to get out of the 8th. The announcers were talking about Soto's 100th homer all series and I was trying so hard to prevent it....failed haha

Well. I just did this in my Phillies franchise. First game of the season against the Stros. I haven’t pitched a perfect game since The Show 14. Was with Cliff Lee on the Phillies against the Astros lol. I’m on default All Star for what it’s worth. Also, I’ve NEVER struck out this many batters. My single game record is a tie at 15 with guys like DeGrom/Scherzer/Cole/Kershaw. Wheelers slider was absolutely filthy, and they could not catch up to the high and tight fastballs. The ‘final boss’ came in the 8th inning really, with Altuve fouling off everything. Ended up being a 13 pitch at bat, being a full count for 90% of that, and Altuve finally struck out looking on a backdoor slider. The final 3 outs were relatively easy. Aledmys Diaz swung way out of the zone on back to back pitches, McCormack popped up to Rhys, and Jason Castro fouled off 2 balls before striking out on a high inside fastball. Totally unexpected. Feels great.

I use Page on my Mac, but you could also use Excel or Google sheets to make your own Box Score. I have another game or two before I upload my next "News letter", but you can see what I have in there. Not that hard to make though, just make a master template and use that each time. You might even be able to use Excel to keep a running tabulation of player stats.

Toronto lost 11-6 to Boston in the Blue Jays' return home after a week on the road. Jose Berrios didn't make it out of the 1st inning, allowing 9 runs. Here's the kicker; only one of those was earned.

A Matt Chapman throwing error was immediately followed by a Bo Bichette bobble of a sure double play ball. The Red Sox went crazy after those 2 plays and ended the half inning up 9-0.

Bichette at least appeared to have a breakthrough at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a HR, double and 3 RBI.

Vlad Jr. also went deep; it's his 10th HR in the opening month.

Blue Jays are 15-8 on the season.
