Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

We made another minor move, in a rare intra-division trade with the Phillies. We got center fielder Roman Quinn in exchange for D.J. Stewart.

Quinn was optioned to Gwinnett, but he could be a candidate for the postseason roster as a speed/defense guy. He only had 11 at-bats all season for the Phillies.

Stewart will be Philadelphia's everyday left fielder. He didn't really fit into our long-term plans. And after the Phils suffered through a nine-game losing streak, we're not really worried about them.

Philadelphia also sent closer Jose Alvarado to the Red Sox for a shortstop prospect. Boston also got Dylan Floro from the Marlins. Seems a little strange since the Sox are 15 games under .500 and nine games back of the wild card.

The Yankees also beefed up their bullpen, in theory, by getting Joe Jimenez from Detroit for a prospect. I say in theory because they optioned Jimenez to AAA even though Jesse Hahn was a a more obvious candidate to be demoted.

Cardinals drop series in Milwaukee to Brewers and lose ground

The Cardinals (39-36) dropped 3 games of a 4 game series with the Brewers in Milwaukee to start the week. The Cardinals now find themselves 4 games behind the Brewers in the NL Central.

The Cardinals won the series opener on Monday as Robbie Ray finally bounced back and had a good start going 6.2 innings giving up 1 run on 5 hits with 6 strikeouts. The bullpen preserved the win. The next 3 games the bullpen would play a role in losing all 3. Tuesday was a pitchers duel as Miles Mikolas left in the 8th with the game tied at 1 with 2 outs. Genesis Cabrera was brought on to face Christian Yelich who proceeded to hit a 3 run bomb that would put the Brewers up 4-1, the final score. Wednesday the Cardinals were up 3-0 in the 8th when the bullpen would implode again letting the Brewers score 4 runs for the win. On Thursday, Cards down 4-2 and getting back in the game, the bullpen promptly gave up 3 runs to push the lead to 7-2 the final score.

Frustrating series to say the least and again the bullpen is shaky and the offense is inconsistent. The Cardinals will travel to Pittsburgh for a 3 game weekend series with the last place Pirates. Cards need a sweep.

Cardinals and Phillies strike a deal

The Cardinals and Phillies have struck a deal that will bring LHP Jose Alvarado to the Cardinals. In exchange the Phillies will get OF Scott Hurst and RHP Tommy Parsons.

Alvarado hasn't been lights out, but he's been good of late and posts a 3.45 ERA with 3 holds and 15 strikeouts in 16 innings. He will take the spot of Genesis Cabrera who was optioned back to Memphis after the Milwaukee series.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Swept by the Dodgers in LA....

First of all the Dodgers plays well. It is amazing how playing them immerses you into playing every pitch offensively and defensively!

Game One: SP I. Anderson vs. SP Buehler. Buehler was nailz! 8.2IP,5H,0R,0BB & 5K!
Anderson (Braves) gave it a valent effort. 5.1IP,5H,2R,2ER,1BB & 7K. We pulled him in the 6th. My bullpen was fantastic! Going 2.2IP,2H,0R & 6K. We lost 2-0!

Game Two: SP Morton (Braves) vs. SP Urias. Another dominant performance by Dodger starter. He went 7.0IP,4H,1R,1ER,2BB & 5K. Morton only could mustard 5.0IP,6H,4R,4ER.2BB & 3K. Dodgers scored their 4 runs in the first 3 frames. Featuring former ATL Freddie going deep. Once again, our bullpen was up to the task of keeping score right where it was when the starter departed! 3.0IP and no unearned or earned runs! We scored 2 runs but was not enough! We lost 4-2!

Game 3: This was the heart breaker of all heart breakers! No putt intended! SP Ky. Wright (Braves) 6.1IP,3H,1R,1ER,0BB,4K. He was up to task for sure, a quality start and pitched into the 7th.SP Gonsolin 5.0IP,7H,2R,2ER,0BB & 6K. We got to him in the first inning for 2 runs. So, I was feeling good. But it is to hold the Dodgers down. Up 2-0, they chipped away at the lead. We added an add-on run in the top of the 7th, making it 3-1! My closer Jansen who has been perfect 6 of 6 in the save department. Hung a cutter, coming inside to 3B slugger Max Muncy. He crushed a 2-run HR, tying the game at 3! The rest is history, extra inning rule in affect equaled another lost! We lose 5-4!

With getting swept, we fall to 10-10 on the year. 1.0GB of the 1st place Mets (10-8) We have an off day up next! Headed back to the ATL for a 6-game home-stand, 3 vs. the Marlins (9-9) and 3 vs. the Cubs (8-10).

Cardinals take series against Pirates in Pittsburgh

The Cardinals (41-37) take 2 of 3 from the Pirates in Pittsburgh over the weekend. The Cardinals are still 4 games back of the Brewers in the NL Central.

The Cardinals lost the series opener on Friday night but bounced back to win Saturday and Sunday to secure the series victory. Dylan Carlson got back on track in this series going 8 for 13 with 2 homeruns and 6 RBI's. Also saw the bullpen settle down and be consistent preserving both victories.

The Cardinals are off on Monday as they head home to welcome the Cubs to town for a 3 game series as the month of June comes to a close.

Just won a 2-0 game vs the Cubs thanks to an Alonso HR in the first, and insurance run in the 9th and seven shutout innings from Scherzer but my hitting will probably be messed up for a few days now thanks to facing Wade Miley and his 90 mph fastball. My timing is completely screwed up

                2022 Arizona Diamondbacks 08/15-08/18

                overall record:76-47 (1st NL West)

Arizona falls just short of perfection in 7 game road trip

The Arizona Diamondbacks won six games in a row in their seven game road trip which included three games against Colorado and four against San Francisco. Arizona won the first six games of the trip before finally falling to the Giants in the sweep clenching game four, 3-2.

Arizona's stretch has them as the hottest team in baseball as they have gone 9-1 in their last 10 while the second place Dodgers have struggled as of late. The current NL West lead for Arizona sits at four games as the teams push toward the end of August.

The Diamondbacks will now return home for a short three game home stand against St Louis who are fighting for their playoff chances as they sit at third in the NL Central with a even .500 record (61-61)

The Nationals snapped our eight-game winning streak on Friday, then walked us off on Sunday to take two of three.

At 60-24, we still have a comfortable lead in the NL East. The Nats are closing in on the Mets for second place in the division and the second wild-card spot. The White Sox have won 11 straight and at 57-27 aren't too far behind us for the best record in MLB.

Milwaukee offered us infielder Orlando Arcia for Pat Valaika and since Arcia is a Brave in real life ...

Arcia upgrades our bench a bit. We optioned Josh Rojas to Gwinnett to make room on the roster. We took on some salary, so we're only about $3M under budget now.

The Brewers recently called up Matt Duffy and inserted him into the starting lineup for Arcia, who was hitting just .208 with three homers and 24 RBIs.

We're back home until the All-Star break. We've got four with the Rockies and then three more with the Nationals before the midsummer classic.

Cardinals take series from Cubs in St.Louis

The Cardinals (43-38) took 2 games of a 3 game series from the Cubs in St.Louis. The Cardinals still find themselves 5.5 games back of the Brewers who are playing exceptionally well right now.

The Cardinals lost the series opener Tuesday night with Kwang Hyun Kim on the mound. He wasn't bad and got thru 5 innings, but the Cubs jumped out early 4-0, and the Cards tried to get back in it, but once they got the deficit to one run, they just couldn't get the key hit when needed.

Wednesday night saw Adam Wainwright find his old form as he went 7 innings allowing just 1 run on 2 hits with 8 strikeouts. Wainwright earned his 200th career victory as the Cardinals downed the Cubs 5-1.

Thursday afternoon Jack Flaherty was on the mound and he went 7 innings giving up a single run on 6 hits with 9 strikeouts. He earned his NL best 10th win of the season. Tyler O'Neill found his stroke at the plate hitting 2 homeruns while driving in 3 runs.

The Cardinals will now welcome the Orioles to town for a 3 game weekend series. The O's are in the midst of a tightly contested wild card race in the American League.

Cardinals activate Gio Urshela from IL

The Cardinals have activated SS/IF Gio Urshela from the IL. Urshela hit the IL this time due to a shoulder injury that cost him nearly two months of baseball.

The 31 year old has only played in 23 games this year and is hitting .256 with 5 homeruns and 12 RBIs. His slash line is .256/.303/.488.

With Urshela returning the Cardinals will send 2B Nick Dunn back to Memphis.

Cardinals and Rockies strike trade deal

The Cardinals and Rockies have agreed to a deal that will bring Randal Grichuk back to St.Louis in exchange for Yairo Munoz.

Grichuk was down in AAA with the Rockies as he didn't really have a spot on the 26 man roster. Grichuk has just 13 at-bats at the MLB level this year hitting .272. In AAA he was hitting .267 with 8 homeruns and 21 RBI's. He will likely join the Cards 26 man roster as backup outfielder.

Yairo Munoz never really fit into the Cards plans. He saw everyday action when Urshela and DeJong were on the IL, but with both back, the emergence of Nolan Gorman and Edmundo Sosa and Tommy Edman as other infield options, Munoz became expendable.

Another deal for the Cardinals and again nothing blockbuster, but trying to fulfill gaps in the roster as they look to a strong 2nd half of the season in their quest to return to postseason baseball.

Cardinals take series against Orioles, miss out on sweep

The Cardinals (45-39) took 2 games of a 3 game series against the Orioles and missed out on the sweep due to bullpen woes. The Cardinals are now 6 games back of the Brewers and 1.5 games out of the wildcard.

The Cardinals won both Friday night and Saturday night thanks to timely hitting and great pitching, but Sunday afternoon while the hitting was good, the starting pitching was good, the bullpen was not. Anthony Bass again melted down and lost the lead for the Cardinals as they tried to get the ball to Reyes and Gallegos at the back end.

The Cardinals have no time to rest as they are now heading to Cincinnati for a 3 game series with the Reds starting Monday before heading to Colorado for a 4 game weekend series with the surprising Rockies.

Twins Open Second Half with 8-Straight on the Road

At the most pivotal time of the season for Minnesota, they will spend the next eight games (10 days) away from Target Field to end the month of July. Currently sitting six games back of both the Tigers and the White Sox, it's time to win now or the next time the Twins do play at Target Field on August 1st, this team will look a lot different after the sell all of their pieces.

They start with three games in Detroit, which will be the biggest series of the year to this point, then after an off-day they head to Milwaukee for a quick two-game mid-week series followed by another off-day before a three-gamer in San Diego against the Padres.

The Twins have their rotation setup with Bailey Ober (5-0, 1.59), Joe Ryan (3-8, 5.57) and Chris Paddack (6-5, 4.10) for the Detroit series, while Drew Strotman (2-3, 3.65) and Sonny Gray (4-7, 5.97) will go in Milwaukee. After that will depend of the success, or lack thereof, that will determine who will even be a part of the organization when they head back to Minnesota.
