Cardinals split series with Pirates in St.Louis

The Cardinals (31-28) split a 4 game series with the Pirates in St.Louis over the weekend. The Cardinals missed a golden opportunity to move closer to the Brewers in the NL Central Division, as they are still 2 games back.

The Cardinals won the first two games of the series, but then once again the bats were silent as the Cardinals were shutout both Saturday and Sunday. This lack of consistency with the offense is really starting to infuriate the fans and frustrate both the coaching staff and front office. Yes injuries play a part, but the guys in the lineup everyday need to produce when called upon.

The Cardinals will hopefully get a spark when Paul DeJong returns next weekend while the Cards are in Boston. Gio Urshela is stll out until at least July 1st.

The Cardinals are off on Monday as they travel to Toronto for a brief 2 game series with the Blue Jays before then being off Thursday as they travel to Boston for a 3 game weekend series with the Red Sox.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Cardinals split mini series with Blue Jays in Toronto

The Cardinals (32-29) split their mini 2 game series with the Blue Jays in Toronto. The Cardinals remain 2.5 games back of the Brewers in the NL Central.

The Cardinals won the series opener Tuesday night in a slugfest as the two teams combined to hit 7 homeruns. Adam Wainwright wasn't his best but got thru 6 innings as the bats protected him being hit hard at times. Yairo Munoz was the hero hitting 2 homeruns with 5 RBI's.

Wednesday afternoon the Cardinals felt good with Jack Flaherty on the mound, but he was roughed up. Flaherty would last just 4.1 innings giving up 8 runs on 9 hits with 4 walks. The Cardinals would get blown out 9-1.

The Cardinals are off on Thursday as they travel to Boston for a 3 game weekend series with the Red Sox.

The Cardinals have activated SS Paul DeJong from the IL. DeJong has missed about 2 months with a torn calf. DeJong is only hitting .188 this season but had only appeared in 12 games before the injury.

Juan Yepez was optioned to Memphis to make room on the active roster.

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

We've hit the halfway point (81 games) of the 2022 season. We're rolling, sweeping the Mets to push our winning streak to eight. We now have a commanding 11-game lead in the division.

Mr. Consistency Freddie Freeman is in the NL MVP conversation, although he'll need Bryce Harper to fall off a cliff in the second half to have a shot at winning it. He's hitting .332 with 24 homers and 59 RBIs.

But the first-half story is Austin Riley. Gets the start on Opening Day in 2021 only to be demoted to Gwinnett in May last year. Called back up in September, makes the postseason roster and splits time at third with Johan Camargo in October.

Reclaims the third-base job in spring training. We show our commitment to him by trading Camargo in April. Riley is on a hot streak right now, pushing his average to a season-high .255, and he's third on the team in homers (21) while leading us in RBIs (61) hitting from the sixth spot. He's making a late push to make the All-Star team.

On the flip side, we have to figure out what's wrong with Mike Soroka. He's 10-2 but his ERA has ballooned to 3.77 after getting hit hard the last handful of starts. He's already given up 16 homers this year.

None of our starting pitchers have an ERA below 3. In the bullpen, only Josh Staumont (3.28) has an ERA above 3. Diego Castillo has allowed two runs in 33 inning pitched.

We're a little more than a week out from the All-Star break and three weeks away from the trade deadline. We have $5M in budget space left if we want to make another move, but I think we're set.

Shower thought: Ya know, you really gotta stay out of these double-plays. You can't give in and take some half-hearted swing at a low pitcher's pitch, you really gotta make sure you're at least ripping tf out of something so there's no DP. I finally can see what the new-age guys are talking about where the strikeout is literally better in those situations. The difference between an awesome inning and a crap one is one bad swing.

That's kind of my philosophy. Better to strike out looking at a borderline pitch, than to put a weak swing on it, and hit into a double play.

Hittin' Harold on first after a beautiful single on a 3-2 count in a 6-pitch at-bat to leadoff the inning, my BOY Jake Rogers has a masterful at-bat drawing a cool 7 pitches himself, then I lose all damn focus out of nowhere and groundball to second for the DP.

It just smacks in the face "damn dude there should be a man on with one out, you idiot, pay attention." The walk or K are both better. I get it now. Took me a while.

I've done that a few times. Usually getting over excited/anxious with Cabrera with runners on.

Cardinals drop series to Red Sox in Boston

The Cardinals (33-31) dropped 2 games of a 3 game series with the Red Sox in Boston over the weekend. The Cardinals now find themselves 3.5 games back of the Brewers in the NL Central.

Pitching really let the Cardinals down in this series. Robbie Ray was touched up bad in the series opener as the Cardinals fell 12-2 with Ray giving up 7 runs on 9 hits over just 4 innings of work. The bullpen wasn't much better, especially Genesis Cabrera who gave up 4 runs on 2 hits without recording an out.

On Saturday Miles Mikolas pitched a well of a game and the offense put up 5 runs in route to a 5-2 victory. Giovanny Gallegos got his 19th save of the season closing the door in the 9th. Anthony Rizzo put up 3 RBI's on 2 hits.

On Sunday, Dakota Hudson wasn't brilliant but was good, but the defense and bullpen let him down. Hudson left after 5 innings giving up 5 runs but only 1 was earned as the Cards committed 4 errors in the first 5 innings. Cards were only down 5-3 when the bullpen took over as they proceeded to give up 6 runs in their 3 innings of work as the Cards fell 11-6.

The Cardinals will be back at it on Monday night in St.Louis as they welcome the Dodgers to town for a 4 game series.

Cardinals take series against Dodgers in St.Louis

The Cardinals (36-32) took 3 games of a 4 game series against the Dodgers at Busch Stadium in St.Louis. The Cardinals have climbed to within 2 games of the Brewers in the NL Central.

The Cardinals won the first two games of the series, before Robbie Ray got touched up for his 3rd straight start as he was knocked out after 4.1 innings. The Cardinals won the Thursday get away day game to win the series 3-1.

Best news of the series was that Tommy Edman returned to the lead off spot and reached base at least twice in all 4 games drawing 5 walks along with 4 hits in the series.

The Cardinals will welcome the Nationals to town for a 3 game weekend series that will conclude on Father's Day Sunday.

Cardinals take series against Nationals over weekend

The Cardinals (38-33) took 2 games of a 3 game series against the Nationals over the weekend in St.Louis. The Cardinals are now 2 games back of the Brewers in the NL Central.

The Cardinals won Friday night and Sunday behind solid play by both offense and defense, and even with issues within the pitching staff. The Cardinals won Friday night despite losing Dakota Hudson in the 2 inning to a torn groin. Kwang Hyun Kim came in a pitched well although he would get a no decision. Justin Wilson earned the win when Paul DeJong put the Cards ahead in the 8th with a RBI single. On Saturday just 3 innings in and Adam Wainwright would be removed due to a strained oblique. The pitching staff did a good job yet again, but the bats were silent. On Sunday, no drama as Jack Flaherty earned his NL leading 9th win of the season going 7.1 innings giving up 2 runs on 4 hits and striking out 10.

Once again, Tommy Edman was strong at the leadoff spot reaching base all 3 games and earning 3 hits and 3 walks in the series.

The Cardinals will now travel to Milwaukee for a big 4 game series with the Brewers.

Dakota Hudson back to IL with Torn Groin

RHP Dakota Hudson is heading back to the IL, this time with a groin tear. He's expected to miss at least 2 months. He left in the 2nd inning of his start on Friday night.

Kwang Hyun Kim is expected to fill in the rotation spot and Genesis Cabrera was recalled from Memphis to take the vacant bullpen slot. Cabrera was sent down due to recent struggles, and Justin Wilson was recalled.

Dropped the first two of my series with theBraves to cut my lead to 6.5 games. I did make a move for the bullpen, swapping struggling relievers with Boston as I got Josh Taylor and his 11.12 era in exchange for Seth Lugo. He doesn’t really have the profile of a pitcher I’d typically go after since he doesn’t have a change up but if I can get half decent production out of him it will be a good move since he’s under team control for a few years
