Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

Anybody remember any real-life deadline deals where two contenders traded key pieces to each other? Dodgers getting Manny and the Red Sox getting Bay in a three-team deal is the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

This question has nothing to do with me approaching July in my franchise.

MAHLE, TIGERS NO HIT BLUE JAYS IN SERIES FINALE

        BOX SCORE

Not much could top the excitement of yesterday's comeback from a 5 run 9th inning deficit....But the Tigers found a way to top it.

        With a no hitter!!!!

Tyler Mahle, acquired on Friday from the Cincinnati Reds, and making his Tiger debut, pitched the 9th no hitter in franchise history. Mahle allowed just one base runner, a walk to Raimel Tapia in the 6th inning. He struck out 10.

Kyle Dutcher led off the game with a home run, his 29th of the year. It's the 7th leadoff home run he has hit this season. Austin Meadows added a solo home run in the second, his 25th, to put the Tigers up 2-0. It stayed that way until the 8th, when Miguel Cabrera launched a 2 run blast to left, his 25th, making it 4-0.

Dutcher would hit another solo home run in the 9th, his 30th of the season, putting the Tigers up 5-0. Spencer Torkelson hit his league leading 36th home run later on in the inning, a 2 run shot, capping the scoring.

All the while, Mahle was dominating the Blue Jay hitters with a mix of fastballs and two really sharp breaking pitches. Alek Manoah started for the Jays, and pitched well, allowing 2 runs in 6 innings, taking the loss.

Urshela Takes Home AL Player of the Month for June
Gio Urshela hated to see the month of June end as her tore apart AL pitching with a .389 average with seven homers and 28 RBI, earning the Player of the Month award for the month of June.

Urshela leads the league in hitting at .344, and just extended his hitting streak to 30 games on Friday night in a 7-6 Twins win over the Orioles. Urshela is having a breakout year in Minnesota, his first season with the Twins. He is closing in on a career-high (21) in homeruns as he currently has 18 and also leads the team with 61 RBI.

"Gio has been our MVP through the first months of the season," said Twins' skipper Rocco Baldelli during a pre-game conference on Friday. "I look forward to penciling him into the three spot in our order each and every day."

Urshela was acquired in an off-season trade with the Yankees. The Twins were looking to shed some salary as they sent former MVP Josh Donaldson to New York.

With one more year of team control, and with a few of Minnesota's top 3B prospects almost MLB ready, Urshela could be used as trade bait in the off-season, but for now he is trying to help the Twins win a division crown and hopefully end their playoff winless streak.

I have officially simulated to June 15th and look to begin my franchise. Below are the current standings for my fictional 2022 MLB. Trying to figure out a decent choice based on the current standings & team situations. Any ideas are welcomed....

Top AL teams in my eyes right now are: Blue Jays, Royals, Guardians.

I like the idea of the Jays having to fend off New York and the ever annoying Rays for the AL East...definitely not an easy task. The AL Central looks like a mess, so the fact Kansas City (Rebuild) and Cleveland (Reload) are tied for first means I have to make a tough "go for it" or "trade away" decision. The AL West looks a little boring since I know Houston will be tough to catch and to be honest, LA and Seattle do not have enough to take the top two wild card spots from New York, Tampa, and Toronto.

Top NL teams in my eyes right now are: Mets, Giants, Phillies, Cardinals, Rockies.

The Braves are on fire (best record in MLB) so the Mets have a tough task of either catching up or keeping pace with San Francisco in the Wild Card. Speaking of San Fran, we know it's a tough division, but the Giants somehow are sticking with the juggernaut. They could be a fun one to try and maintain a lead in the Wild Card. The Phillies are third back in the Wild Card so it could be fun to try and take it from the Mets, same deal with Colorado (4th back), and St. Louis could be fun because they are in a deep hole in a weak NL Central.

Cardinals claim Trevor Richards off waivers

The Cardinals have claimed 29 year old RHP off of waivers from the Blue Jays. Richards was at Buffalo for the Blue Jays and pitching well, but was placed on outright assignment waivers when claimed.

Richards will actually join the big league roster in San Francisco as Dakota Hudson was placed on the 15 day IL with a neck sprain. Kwang Hyun Kim will take the vacated rotation spot for the time being.

                      2022 Arizona Diamondbacks 08/08-08/11

Overall Record:70-46 (1st NL West 2.5 over LA Dodgers

Arizona gets series victory, 3-1 over Pittsburgh

A sweep would have been nice but three out of four games isn't too bad. Arizona's three wins weren't necessarily easy against the MLB's worst team. Game one was won 3-2 in an extra inning affair that ended in a walk off on a wild pitch. Game three was another one run win (4-3). Game three saw both teams enter the 9th inning tied 1-1 but Pittsburgh would get five runs in the top of the inning to take the victory 6-3.

Game four saw Carson Kelly lead the team to victory with his two hits. One of those hits was a two run HR (his 27th on the year) and another was an RBI single in the team's four run 6th inning. The offense was also backed up by a masterful performance by Zac Gallen who pitched seven innings while allowing just four hits and two runs while striking out a personal and team season high 11 batters. Despite missing two weeks earlier in the season, he is in the running for the NL Cy Young along with Milwaukee's Corbin Burnes and Colorado's Austin Gomber.

Merrill Kelly returned during the series and is slated to make his next start August 15th against the Giants.

Luke Weaver who has been having a phenomenal year in the 5th spot on the rotation took a line drive to the head in that game three loss. It's not as bad as it could have been and he is expected to miss 1-2 weeks. Since Kelly came back after that game, no corresponding moves were made.

Arizona now starts a seven game road trip with a trip to Colorado to face the Rockies who recently fell below .500 (57-60).

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

                          Braves bring back familiar face

The Braves have agreed to terms with veteran right-hander Charlie Morton on a one-year, $1.9M deal. Morton went 16-5 with a 2.43 ERA in 32 starts with the Braves last season. He was an early Cy Young favorite before fading a bit in the second half.

Atlanta was interested in re-signing him last offseason, but he was looking for a deal north of $11M a year then. Now in midseason, his salary demands have dropped significantly.

Morton is expected to primarily pitch out of the bullpen in a long-relief role, although he may get a spot start or two. The 38-year-old's skills are diminishing, but the Braves value his leadership and ability to mentor their younger pitchers.

Ryne Stanek, acquired in a trade after the Astros designated him for assignment, has been optioned to Gwinnett. Stanek pitched well at Gwinnett earlier but was unimpressive in three appearances since being called up.

Felix Pena has been designated for assignment to make room for Morton on the 40-man roster. The Braves will see if there is a trade market for Pena, but are expected to release the 32-year-old right-hander.

Cardinals drop series to Giants in San Francisco

The Cardinals (19-20) dropped two games of a three game series with the Giants in San Francisco over the weekend. The Cardinals now find themselves 4 games back of the Brewers and Cubs in the NL Central division.

Its the same story for this club as hitting continues to be inconsistent and generally on the bad side in terms of driving in runs with runners on base. Pitching is decent, but like hitting is far too inconsistent game to game. Injuries have played a part in the inconsistency, but its time for those stepping into place to become productive everyday players.

The Cardinals will now head home for a 3 game series with the Brewers.

Cardinals option Tommy Edman to Memphis

The Cardinals have optioned 2B Tommy Edman to Memphis and recalled 2B Nick Dunn from same organization.

Edman has struggled this year, after having a lackluster 2022, slashing just .189/.210/.292 thus far. He just can't find ways to get on base and hitting the ball far too much into the air. When on base, Edman does have 9 stolen bases which puts him 5th in the National League in that category. He's also been a solid defender, but his inability to reach base at the top of the lineup is a cause of concern. The plan is for Edman to stay in Memphis until at least June 1st, in hopes he finds his swing and eye at the plate.

Nick Dunn will take his big league roster spot, but is expected to platoon at 2nd base with Edmundo Sosa. Dunn is hitting .387 in Memphis thus far and was the leading vote getter in the early all-star polls.

The Cardinals may need to start exploring the trade market for help in the lineup, and pitching for that matter, if they want to return to postseason play this October.

Cardinals take series from Brewers in St.Louis

The Cardinals (21-21) got back to .500 after taking 2 games of a 3 game series with the Brewers in St.Louis to begin the week. The Cardinals are still 3.5 games back of the Cubs.

After losing the series opener on Monday night where once again Adam Wainwright was hit hard and often, the Cardinals bounced back with a win Tuesday behind an amazing performance from Jack Flaherty (6-1). Flaherty would go 7 innings giving up 2 runs (2 run HR by Yelich) on 2 hits with 1 walk and 13 strikeouts. Alex Reyes and newly acquired Trevor Richards closed the Brewers out as the Cards won 7-2. On Wednesday it was Robbie Ray's turn but he struggled thru 6 innings. While he only yielded 3 runs on 5 hits, he walked 5 and was lucky to have good defense behind him to get out of jams. The offense was sparked by Nolan Gorman who drove in 3 runs on 2 hits and Dylan Carlson added 2 additional RBI's in the 5-3 Cards win.

The Cardinals will now welcome the Giants to St.Louis for a 4 game weekend series.
