Twins Get Swept in Toronto
After a very successful series in Detroit, the Minnesota Twins fell flat on their face as they were handed a three-game sweep in Toronto by the Blue Jays.
On Friday night, the Jays got a two-run walkoff homerun from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to win 3-2 to set the tone for the series. The Twins had scored two runs in the top of the ninth to take the lead, but it was short lived after Tyler Duffey failed to preserve the win. Chris Paddack went eight strong innings, allowing just an unearned run while striking out seven.
Saturday night offered another low scoring affair as Toronto edged Minnesota again 3-1. Gio Urshela provided the lone offense for the Twins with a solo homer in the fourth. Drew Strotman (0-1) was the tough luck loser in his major league debut. He went five and two-thirds allowing all three runs.
Guerrero Jr. provided all the offense the Jays would need as they completed the three-game sweep with a convincing 5-2 win on Sunday. Joe Ryan (3-6) continued his struggles as he went just five innings and allowed four runs. Byron Buxton homered in the first inning to give the Twins an early lead.
After a much needed off-day on Monday, the Twins head back home for a tough six-game homestand against the Yankees and Rays. Both teams are battling back-and-forth for the lead in the American League East Division.
