Not great news for the Chicago White Sox as SP Johnny Cueto heads to the Injured list with a torn groin according to multiple media sources. The team has selected the contract of 2B Yolbert Sanchez from Triple A Charlotte.

Cardinals drop series to Padres fall further back

The Cardinals (85-69) dropped 2 games of a 3 game series with the Padres in San Diego and have fallen further back in the NL Central (2.5 GB) and NL Wild Card (3 GB).

Nothing really to write, other than it took the Padres self harming themselves (4 double plays hit into & 5 errors for 3 unearned runs) for the Cardinals to even record a win in this series, and even then it was close.

The Cardinals will now travel to Los Angeles for a 3 game weekend series with the Dodgers, whom they are trailing in the wild card race.

Paul Goldschmidt records 1000th RBI of his career

Paul Goldschmidt recorded his 1000th RBI Thursday afternoon against the Padres. Goldy singled home Tommy Edman in the 5th inning to achieve the milestone.

Goldschmidt has been in a bad slump of late, but maybe this RBI single and milestone will help him snap out of it. Goldschmidt also earned his 300th homerun of his career earlier this season.

Cardinals take series against Dodgers close gap

The Cardinals (87-70) took 2 of 3 from the Dodgers in Los Angeles over the weekend to close the gap in both the divisional race and wild card race. The Cards are just 1.5 back of the Brewers in the Central Division and 1.5 games back of the Dodgers and Braves in the wildcard hunt.

The Cardinals lost the series opener on Friday night but bounced back to win Saturday and Sunday. Sunday was a 12 inning game that saw Lars Nootbar snap a cold streak with a 2 run go ahead, eventual game winner, homerun in the top of the 12th. Giovanny Gallegos would strike out the side in the bottom of the 12th.

The Cardinals are off on Monday as they make the trip to Milwaukee for a pivotal 2 game mini series with the Brewers. Cardinals have the chance to leave with the divisional lead heading into the final weekend of games.

              Remaining Schedule

              2 @ Brewers
              3 vs Pirates

2022 Arizona Diamondbacks End of June

overall record:49-32 (1st NL West, .5 games over LA Dodgers

Diamondbacks bounce back, end June with four game winning streak

Arizona's late June losing steak reached seven games after a first game loss to the Detroit Tigers, 5-4. Arizona would bounce back to win the series with victories of 5-1 and 12-7.

Arizona ended the month with a short two game series at home against the same Padres who swept them a week prior. This series would result in a sweep as well but in favor of Arizona after the offense stayed hot in 11-6 and 10-4 victories.

Ketel Marte was key in helping Arizona end the month on a positive note. Over the four game stretch, Marte went 12 for 16 with five home runs. Carson Kelly also had 10 hits in the same stretch and two home runs.

Both Kelly and Marte are possible all star starters as Kelly currently leads the NL in votes at the Catcher position while Marte is second among second basemen only behind Ozzie Albies of the Atlanta Braves.

Arizona enters a big month of July that pits them against divisional opponents all the way up to the Allstar break. First up is Colorado who is currently last in the division but still a respectable 41-40.

Tigers finish homestand, take 2/3 from CWS, lose 3/4 to TEX
Just a quick recap since I forgot after the White Sox Series. While we were able to take a big 2/3 in that series, one where really we only got an offensive output in game three, the team was riding high going into a series against a struggling Texas team. But one game with a too far late push, one with a T9 bullpen collapse, one with a close win, and one with an early dissapointment led to a sub .500 homestand in a month of June in which the Tigers continue to struggle. Now the divisional lead is 1.5 over Chicago.

To add insult to injury, in Game 3 against Texas, they lost both RP Alex Lange and RP Jacob Barnes in the same inning. Lange is out for 1-2 months with a fractured arm and is now on the 60 Day IL. Barnes, who was lights out since being called up from Toledo, (.84 ERA, .47 WHIP in 10.2 IP), is also out for 1-2 weeks with a shoulder strain and on the 15 Day IL. Called up was Tyler Alexander who will look to redeem his first stint of the season, and Drew Carlton who had a sub 1 ERA at Toledo so far this season.

Astros clinch AL West and best record in American League

The Houston Astros will be playing postseason baseball in 2022 as they have clinched the AL West division as well as the best record in the American League.

The Astros clinched Sunday afternoon with a win over the Orioles.

The Astros are the first and thus far only team to punch their ticket to October.

So far through the first two months of the year the Devil’s sit at .500 28-28 3 Gb of the division leading Astros. This team has definitely exceeded expectations especially with all the injuries we’ve had. The rotation has been okay thus far while the pen has been awesome. The offense has some bright spots but still needs work. Going into the coming months the Devil’s will need to decide if their contenders or pretenders.

MLB Draft 2023 – First overall pick:

1: 1B: Fernando Esparza 89 Potential 74 overall 6-5 beast has the same attributes as Ryan Mcbroom already. Not a fielder will most likely DH

2: SP: Leland Duffy 88 Potential 74 overall another solid pitcher.

3: C: Carmen Melendez 74 Potential 73 overall. He's definitely not rated high enough, he has 80 hit for left and right and 70 fielding not really any power though.

4: SP: Daniel Lorenz 71 potential 61 overall. Solid developmental piece.

5: CP: Carlos Estrada 87 Potential 67 overall. Hope to slide him into the pen next year.

6: Sp: Matthew McDaniel 77 Potential 62 overall needs some development.

7: Sp: Ricky Spanos 82 Potential 67 overall almost major league ready.

                            Hitting Studs:

Adam Eaton and Tim Anderson at the top of the order have been my best hitters so far. Eaton leads the team with a .302 average. Joey Gallo has the most homers with 14, Tim Anderson is right behind him with 13.

                            Pitching Studs:

In the rotation Foltynewicz has been the best pitcher by a mile with a 2.97 ERA. In the pen Mychal Givens and Jorge Alcala lead the way with ERA’s under 2.00.

                            Hitting Duds:

Pretty much the bottom half of the lineup hasn’t done much. Alfaro Busch and Keller are all under .250.

                            Pitching duds:

Drew Smyly and Tyler Anderson have both not been good and same with Luis Castillo. All have ERA’S over 4.50. will be looking to acquire more pitching soon.

                            Transactions:

Signed Drew Smyly, Wade Miley, and Mickey Moniak to 1yr deals.

Claimed Joel Payamps from the Royals optioned Tanner Scott.

Recalled Jared Hoying from Triple A and sent Christian Arroyo down.

Claimed Will Crowe from the Pirates.

Called up Will Crowe and Eugene Keller

                            Trades:

Acquired Carlos Carrasco from the Cubs for Aaron Slegers, Cameron Cannon and Ken Finnigan. Acquired Jorge Alcala from the Twins for Estevan Florial. Acquired Luis Castillo from the Reds for Aroldis Chapman, Mitch Keller, and Brayan Buelvas. Acquired Darwinzon Hernandez from the Red Sox for Taylor Motter.

                            Injuries:

Kyle Stowers went on the 60 day IL with a Broken Leg, Domingo German went on the 60 day IL with a Bulging Disc, Jordan Yamamoto went on the 60 day IL with a Torn Finger Ligament, Todd Czinege went on the 60 day IL with a Fractured Leg, Wade Miley went on the 60 day IL with a Broken ankle

                            Notes:

June and July will be in the next update

Mariners drop Spring Training contest to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Diamondbacks SP Merrill Kelly was pulled a few pitches into the game due to a pulled Back muscle that will sideline him for 1-6 days. IMG_4135.jpg

I had a pretty lackluster draft last night, which sucks because I had the #10 pick and a comp pick and didnt really take advantage. I did get a really intriguing center fielder, 19 year old switch hitter with 70 power left, 60 power right, and 97 speed. Unfortunately his contact numbers are awful and he’s a 68 overall with70 potential so I’m not expecting huge development. I also drafted a reliever named Juan Franco which is funny just because the Mets all time save leader is John Franco
